Everytime I come here I'm very pleased with the quality of meat. I don't eat meat often but when I do, I am coming here to get it! The space has really unique Portuguese snacks and lots of staples that I always pick up when there. This time I noticed they had Sumol which is SO fun because I just came back from Cape Verde and was obsessed with it while I was there. The man behind the meat counter is extremely nice and helpful every time! read more

Central Meat Market - Meat Shops Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

The chorizo is delicious. We also got the boneless ribeye which were excellent too. Butcher cut and trimmed the steaks and packaged them nicely. Enjoyed the cheese too! Definitely will go back. read more

Prices too high and poor customer service. Two younger men act like younger honored to have them serve them,

I've been going to Central Meat Market for several years and their products are top-notch. The flavors are so much better than what you can find at your traditional supermarket, and they are often much cheaper than nearby Eastside Market and Whole Foods. They also stock more difficult to find cuts of meat (like pork belly, beef neck, etc.) and are more than happy to prepare cuts to your specification. As a plus, they also stock Portuguese groceries, like salted cod and specialty sausages, that are hard to find elsewhere. I also love to pick up some frozen pao de queijo (cheese bread) which can be baked up quickly in the oven for a satisfying snack, or some bolinhos de bacalhau (cod cakes). read more

First time at central meat market and service was very good and the meat quality was great. We stumbled into it so we're not prepared to get specific cut, however, we are planning to go back (today) and get meats for Easter. Will update our next experience. read more

They give false information over the phone and on orders. They don't admit mistakes, the staff is not smiling and not friendly.

Absolutely loved it. Great little butcher shop! Prices were excellent and the quality was fantastic. I purchased 10lbs of boneless chicken breast and went to trim it but didn't need to. Also bought a few pork chops that were excellent. Right around the corner from the house but worth a trip from anywhere! I love supporting a friendly neighborhood business! read more

Got fabulous veal shanks and cut to order NY strips at a great price. Just ordered leg of lamb $5/lb cheaper than any where else.

I always forget that this place is here. I've known about it for years, but finally finally made my way here today- glad that I did. A gem in the Fox Point area. Unbeatable prices for vast variety of meats have inspired me to cook more and try my hand at more ambitious dishes. Come in having some idea of what you want and how you want it cut otherwise the display of what's available might be a bit overwhelming, as it was to me. Large selection of spices and dried goods that are way way cheaper than the closest grocery stories on the east side. Came close to closing on Sunday (they close earlier, at 1pm) and had no trouble with lines. Got in and out within a few minutes-- efficient service. Left here with a few weeks worth of chorizo, pork shoulder, and ground beef for less than $20. Definitely will be back. read more

Love the quality, selection, and the friendly service/advice. Best place to get high quality meats (and fish now, too) and shop local.

I was in search of a high quality prime rib roast for Christmas. And found just that, I ordered weeks before Christmas, no deposit required. They were very helpful with the decisions. Bone in or not and the size, that would be best for my family. When I picked it up it was perfect, black Angus prime grade meat, and the butcher had already tied it for me. They also offer homemade chourico. I had to buy some of the chourico, made great chourico and peppers. I also made a breakfast hash with some. So awesome! read more

After ages of searching, I've finally found it - Old School Service and Quality. Today, I went into this establishment looking for some quality Porterhouse steaks. I've seen what the local grocery chains and the warehouse stores have, and the quality really can't compare, and at $5/lb less than those places, it seems even that much better. But let's talk about service, the real win here. The gentleman behind the counter asked me how he could help me, and I told him what I was looking for. He showed me big hunks of meat, ready to be sliced how I want it. And boy did I put that to the test. I went home with two 1.5" thick porterhouse steaks, and even a couple of NY Strip steaks. I watched as this gentleman carefully trimmed the excess fat off the cuts, and packaged them with the care that someone puts into a Christmas present for their favorite person. Indeed, it felt to me that I was his most important customer. You cannot go wrong spending your money here. In fact, I highly recommend that you do! Thanks folks for your awesome service and product. Edit: I grilled up one of the Porterhouse steaks with Montreal Steak seasoning, and used some apple wood chips for smoke flavor... It was literally the Best Steak I've ever had. It takes great steak to make a great steak. Food for thought. read more

Tony and staff are expert vendors of the finest meat and poultry around. I will endorse the Central Meat Market to others with NO restrictions or hesitation. Bom dia and Desfrutar! read more

Tucked away like a piece of garbage tossed aside on Gano street, this little gem is hardly something to shirk away from. As its name implies they are known for their meat. While I may not necessarily call them a "butcher" shop, they are a combination of convenience store and pretty high quality cuts of meat for very reasonable prices. Take for example the fact that I was looking for ribeye steak. At Eastside, Whole Foods and even Venda's Ravioli, their steaks are upwards of 16.99 a lbs. It was 8.99 here! They also have great deal on combination meat packages for $40 a piece that includes ground meat, various chicken cuts and beef. Find one you like and it will surely be the best deal you've got. They have long hours during the day, parking is convenient inside the store (or across the street at Dunkin' Donuts!). They take credit cards except American Express. If you're looking for some cheap stuff, here it is! Drop by for your next party! read more

Don't be fooled by the sketchy exterior of the place - this meat market is seriously a hidden gem. Their prices are unbelievable! I will only shop here for my meats - I cant even look at the meats at Stop & Shop anymore. I have gotten the packages before but I prefer to just get things separately as I found out that when I did the packages there were a lot of things that I didn't end up using. I regularly get the chicken breast ($2.49/ pound), ground beef ($2.99/ pound), and all sorts of steaks. They have all been delicious! Just a warning - you have to get used to the smell in the place but it is well worth it for a good piece of beef! read more

Interesting place. You buy your meats by the package. You can buy $30 worth of beef, pork and chicken at reduced prices because you are buying in bulk. It is a fresh market and I find it is a great place to buy meat to stock your freezer with. I also found they sell a wider variety of dried legumes than the grocery markets. In particuar, they sell whole yellow peas. read more

This is my go to butcher for a few years. Good quality meat. You can call ahead to order whole pigs, lamb, etc

I got a large flank steak cut into three filets the other day for $6.92; that's half the price I would pay elsewhere. Lots of authentic Portuguese foods as well for a very reasonable cost. Could have a bit more variety, but for the cost, one cannot complain! It's truly a hidden gem. read more

Amazing butcher meat market this is!!! So if you know your prices, know your cuts of meat your looking for this is one of the best, and i live in southern RI...so in the summer i head down RT 1 for fresh meat..but now i found here... Central Meat Market - Look at these delicouse steaks - Meat Shops Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

Great prices for meat, eggs, and chicken. So far, everything has been mighty tasty and easy on the wallet! Luckily, this place is really close to my place, so it's ultra convenient. They also have a lot of Spanish food, as well as other meats and cheeses. Come support a local shop and save some cash at the same time. read more

One stop shopping. I can bring the dog to play at the Gano St. off leash dog park, then stop in at the meat market to get the meat, organs, and bones for her dog food. Easy peasy. read more

Fantastic beef! Expertly cut and nice and fresh. Also, because its run by Portuguese people, you can order the types of cuts you would use in Portuguese and Brazilian food (picanha, maminha, alcatra). They have a great freezer/refrigerator case with all kinds of Portuguese and Brazilian sausages and cheeses. (You can get a packet with all the meats for a feijoada). They have a decent selection of dry goods, mostly Portuguese, Brazilian and Central American. Only thing that prevents them from getting 5 stars is that they wont grind meat to order, and they dont really stock lamb. They also dont have a wide selection of house made sausages or cured meats (though the chourico is quite good). But if you need good steaks for a bbq, or even some basic Brazilian/Portuguese groceries (beans, farinha de mandioca, certain soft drinks) this is without question your best bet on the East Side. read more

I have been a customer here for many years and when I need a good cut of meat or steaks I come here. You can not beat the prices ..... For me is about 1 hour around trip but it's worth it. read more

I went by the Central Meat Market the other day and they are absolutely still in business. I reported this to Yelp and they responded that they don't take sides in "factual disputes". 5 stars for Central Meat Market. Zero stars for Yelp. This is ridiculous. read more

After a recommendation from a friend I only get my meat here. The prices are fantastic and the meat looks gorgeous. From chicken, steaks, brisket, everything is a good deal. Never go to the supermarket ever again for meat if you live nearby. read more

I really like this place but have been unable to find out where the meat/ poultry is sourced and fed. Local farm? antibiotics? hormones? Grass fed or Grain Fed? Etc read more

Think back 50 years ago (or so) and your mother took you into the butcher shop on a Saturday, and she and they all knew each others names, and the goods were good and the pricing right, and you got your lamb for Easter. These people are great and it's reasonable, and tonight it's a 1lb porterhouse that they cut for me. read more
