Everytime I come here I'm very pleased with the quality of meat. I don't eat meat often but when I do, I am coming here to get it! The space has really unique Portuguese snacks and lots of staples that I always pick up when there. I've been going to Central Meat Market for several years and their products are top-notch. The flavors are so much better than what you can find at your traditional supermarket, and they are often much cheaper than nearby Eastside Market and Whole Foods. They also stock more difficult to find cuts of meat (like pork belly, beef neck, etc.) and are more than happy to prepare cuts to your specification. As a plus, they also stock Portuguese groceries, like salted cod and specialty sausages, that are hard to find elsewhere. I also love to pick up some frozen pao de queijo (cheese bread) which can be baked up quickly in the oven for a satisfying snack, or some bolinhos de bacalhau (cod cakes). read more

I always forget that this place is here. I've known about it for years, but finally finally made my way here today- glad that I did. A gem in the Fox Point area. Unbeatable prices for vast variety of meats have inspired me to cook more and try my hand at more ambitious dishes. Come in having some idea of what you want and how you want it cut otherwise the display of what's available might be a bit overwhelming, as it was to me. Large selection of spices and dried goods that are way way cheaper than the closest grocery stories on the east side. Came close to closing on Sunday (they close earlier, at 1pm) and had no trouble with lines. Got in and out within a few minutes-- efficient service. Left here with a few weeks worth of chorizo, pork shoulder, and ground beef for less than $20. Definitely will be back. read more

After ages of searching, I've finally found it - Old School Service and Quality. Today, I went into this establishment looking for some quality Porterhouse steaks. I've seen what the local grocery chains and the warehouse stores have, and the quality really can't compare, and at $5/lb less than those places, it seems even that much better. But let's talk about service, the real win here. The gentleman behind the counter asked me how he could help me, and I told him what I was looking for. He showed me big hunks of meat, ready to be sliced how I want it. And boy did I put that to the test. I went home with two 1.5" thick porterhouse steaks, and even a couple of NY Strip steaks. I watched as this gentleman carefully trimmed the excess fat off the cuts, and packaged them with the care that someone puts into a Christmas present for their favorite person. Indeed, it felt to me that I was his most important customer. You cannot go wrong spending your money here. In fact, I highly recommend that you do! Thanks folks for your awesome service and product. Edit: I grilled up one of the Porterhouse steaks with Montreal Steak seasoning, and used some apple wood chips for smoke flavor... It was literally the Best Steak I've ever had. I was in search of a high quality prime rib roast for Christmas. And found just that, I ordered weeks before Christmas, no deposit required. They were very helpful with the decisions. Bone in or not and the size, that would be best for my family. When I picked it up it was perfect, black Angus prime grade meat, and the butcher had already tied it for me. They also offer homemade chourico. I had to buy some of the chourico, made great chourico and peppers. I also made a breakfast hash with some. So awesome! read more

Tucked away like a piece of garbage tossed aside on Gano street, this little gem is hardly something to shirk away from. As its name implies they are known for their meat. While I may not necessarily call them a "butcher" shop, they are a combination of convenience store and pretty high quality cuts of meat for very reasonable prices. Take for example the fact that I was looking for ribeye steak. At Eastside, Whole Foods and even Venda's Ravioli, their steaks are upwards of 16.99 a lbs. It was 8.99 here! They also have great deal on combination meat packages for $40 a piece that includes ground meat, various chicken cuts and beef. Find one you like and it will surely be the best deal you've got. They have long hours during the day, parking is convenient inside the store (or across the street at Dunkin' Donuts!). They take credit cards except American Express. Don't be fooled by the sketchy exterior of the place - this meat market is seriously a hidden gem. Their prices are unbelievable! I will only shop here for my meats - I cant even look at the meats at Stop & Shop anymore. I have gotten the packages before but I prefer to just get things separately as I found out that when I did the packages there were a lot of things that I didn't end up using. I regularly get the chicken breast ($2.49/ pound), ground beef ($2.99/ pound), and all sorts of steaks. They have all been delicious! Just a warning - you have to get used to the smell in the place but it is well worth it for a good piece of beef! read more

Interesting place. You buy your meats by the package. You can buy $30 worth of beef, pork and chicken at reduced prices because you are buying in bulk. It is a fresh market and I find it is a great place to buy meat to stock your freezer with. I also found they sell a wider variety of dried legumes than the grocery markets. So if you know your prices, know your cuts of meat your looking for this is one of the best, and i live in southern RI...so in the summer i head down RT 1 for fresh meat..but now i found here... I had a want for ribeye steak, i had him cut me three at 1 and a half inch thick..the quality was amazing looking. I also ordered ribs, Hamburg and i asked because i didn't see it out if he had beef brisket..he said yes and how meny pounds? I was confused because iike to see to determine if it looks good, but to my surprise..he had to cut it off the hanging beef in the back. So when he returned with a 6 lb piece of brisket that looked amazing, i was excited! So if you know your prices...the brisket 4.99lb ribs2.99 ribeye 7.99 folks i gota tell you my review is after i have eaten these items... The ribeye MELTED in my mouth! The brisket was done on my smoker for 8 hrs...so tasty and tender...you could almost cut it with a fork!!! Im going to be a regular here! High quality products, great prices. Fantastic beef! Expertly cut and nice and fresh. Also, because its run by Portuguese people, you can order the types of cuts you would use in Portuguese and Brazilian food (picanha, maminha, alcatra). They have a great freezer/refrigerator case with all kinds of Portuguese and Brazilian sausages and cheeses. (You can get a packet with all the meats for a feijoada). They have a decent selection of dry goods, mostly Portuguese, Brazilian and Central American. Only thing that prevents them from getting 5 stars is that they wont grind meat to order, and they dont really stock lamb. They also dont have a wide selection of house made sausages or cured meats (though the chourico is quite good). But if you need good steaks for a bbq, or even some basic Brazilian/Portuguese groceries (beans, farinha de mandioca, certain soft drinks) this is without question your best bet on the East Side. read more
