This grocery store is in need of major improvements. I have a vacation home in Rhode Island and I visit this store only to pick one or two items. I mainly shop at the Stop & Shop in town. However, recently I needed one more steak for friends coming over for dinner. The store seems not very clean to me and the selection is subpar. The produce department is layed out well, but has freshness issues. The deli has nice selections, but need improvements in cleaning. The seafood department and meat department seemed to have freshness issues as well. The dairy and bakery departments seemed to be the best in the store. The checkout is slow! I would only recommend shopping here if you need one or two items. Every visit seems to be a little worse than the previous. Maybe they need some new management??? read more

We just moved to town and I was happily surprised that Barrington would have such a large grocery store. This particular Shaw's has an impressive organic selection for a main street grocer and you can pretty much find most things that you need here. Very happy to have an ample, friendly and convenient grocery store within walking distance. read more

If I could go lower I would. The store is dirty. The fish counter smells awful. The deli counter is always a bad experience. Many times I've gotten moldy berries from produce dept. There's a rude woman that works at the deli counter and I always dread ordering anything if she's there. The registers are a whole other issue. The employees never stop talking to each other. I once had a cashier turn her back and discuss tarot cards and where to get them with a cashier in a different aisle. I stood there and waited till she was done before I could tell her how many sodas I had in my cart. This was in the middle of checking out. I did not walk up to her as she was having the convo. I've lived here for 20 years and I'm tired of having only one option in town for food shopping. Also why does the cart return on the bank side have one railing bent inwards? Will that ever get fixed? We deserve a better store for the taxes we pay in this town. read more

I've lived around the corner from this store for 10 years and visit 2-3 times weekly. Many of the employees are super friendly... Michelle has provided some of the BEST customer service I've ever received from a store employee. Chris is always helpful and pleasant and Jen (I think that's her name... she's a supervisor) is always wonderful. But there is a manager, a man named Jessie, who is one of the rudest, most disrespectful and unprofessional people I've ever come into contact with. He literally yelled at me while waving his hands around and attempted to reprimand me as if I were one of his employees. This was in front of a number of employees and customers... and when I called him out over how he was speaking to me he became even more irate and escalated his horrifyingly inappropriate and abusive behavior and yelled, "Never come back!" as he stormed away from me. As someone who has worked in customer service and in management for many years I am APPALLED that this man is customer facing and in a position of authority over others. Is this the kind of loose cannon you want representing your brand and leading your employees? Wow! read more

I take my shopping seriously and have found most of the negative reviews to be inaccurate or one-sided. Prices at Shaw's Barrington are in general better than at Shaw's Riverside or Stop n' Shop. I've never had a cashier be anything but helpful (and some extremely so) and I shop there very frequently so I've gotten to know most of them. Yes, pricing mistakes happen but I have never had a problem when I bring back my receipt. And quoting a Seinfeld episode "Fruit's a gamble. I know that going in." I've had really good fruit from Shaw's and I've had not-so-good fruit. But the same can even be said for fresh pick-your-own strawberries from 4-Town Farm -- sometimes they're great, sometimes they're not. Shaw's bakery is on par with any of the specialized bakeries around - providing freshness, variety and quality. People who comment about paper bags don't realize that Shaw's doesn't set this policy -- it comes from the Barrington Town Council. If you don't like paper bags, then bring your own reusable bags. If you really need to use plastic bags, then just bring your own but don't fault the store for complying with the town ordinances. Finally, I don't know what people are buying when they find food past its expiration (best by?) date. For frozen food it doesn't matter anyway but I've never had this happen with poultry or meat. In fact, I've been pretty impressed with how thorough Shaw's is about moving items to their reduced section when the expiration is close. I feel lucky to have such a reasonably priced, clean and well managed store in my town. read more

Excellent staff, always clean and I've never had to wait in a long line. Best grocery shopping experience ! I was with John Jamiel while shopping for bakery goods and we were both pleased with the quality of the food. The people there are not helpful. They told me I was stealing even though I had receipt. I know someone that worked at a fish Company that tested Shaws fish and found that all the fish they tested were soaked in chemicals. These chemicals make the fish heavier so you pay more for less fish. read more

For the past five weeks I have been shopping at Shaw's Barrington instead of Stop and Shop in Bristol. I find the product and the various manufacturers good. The fruits are very good and reasonably priced. Produce is also good. The best thing about this Shaw's is the employee's. Everyone is so helpful. Every time I have either asked someone for assistance, or have gone to the service desk. Everyone is pleasant. When I was checking out this evening I was watching the interaction between Evan and Jared. These young men were smiling and joshing with each other, but still professional. I hope they are working the next time I go. I believe the employees as well as shoppers all reflect good attitudes. I highly recommend this Shaw's. * Please note ~ STOP & SHOP ~ has just started charging 10 cents a bag. read more

This grocery store is terrible. The fruits and vegetables are always past their fresh stage, they sell expired products (bought a frozen breakfast item that expired September 2016 and it is currently December). Plus most times you have to bag your own groceries. For such a great town it is an awful store. read more

This is an Awful place to food shop. Never enough registers open and people are not friendly at all. Fill there survey out regarding how they are doing, you get a call filled with excuses. Definitely a thumbs...i rather travel 10 minutes to Seabra or Stop and Shop!! read more

9 times out of 10 this Shaw's location has what I am looking for. Just save yourself the aggravation and don't go during peak times to shop, like Saturdays. If you're the type of shopper that goes in knowing what you want and where to find it, you'll avoid a lot of the aggravation that comes with other shoppers who block access to the dairy case doors with their carts while they stand there zoned out trying to figure out which flavor yogurt they want. You'll also avoid many of the parents who let their kids run about the store like it's their own personal playground. First thing in the AM or during dinner hours are probably the best times to go to this store. read more

Terrific staff. I'm impressed because all the employees I encountered (and I had to ask quite a few questions to find all the odd things on my list) were grown-ups (yes, as opposed to teens) who truly knew the store and the products. Drawbacks are that they don't have enough of an organic selection and the extremely expensive Alaskan salmon we bought there had clearly been frozen and then thawed out (based on the texture and dryness). read more

I've been going to the Barrington Shaws for years on a weekly basis and never really thought about giving a review but since I like to read reviews I thought I'd write this. I like the Barrington Shaws. I've had a couple of issues in the past with their scanned prices not matching the in-store posted sale price but I always check my receipt. I really dislike walking out to the car and find I was overcharged and it happened twice for some lettuce In the same week. When I brought it to the attention of customer service they apologized and refunded my money however 2 days later I purchased the same thing and same wrong price. I was annoyed, as I expected once you tell customer service they'd get it fixed but not this time. I made a complaint through the survey online and told them of my experience. I got an email from the manger in 1 day and she asked me to come by and see her next time. She was very nice and apologized and gave me an unexpected gift card for the inconvenience. I was surprised but it was nice. I see the manger in the store and say hello to her now. The folks who work at the store are very nice. They all seem to be focused on customer service and really try to help and chat with you at the check out. They seem to be very genuine which I appreciate. I work in a retail environment myself and you can tell when a team gels and is genuinely focused on the customers. read more

When I was in Shaw's, Barrington RI a couple of days ago, I always make it a point to check out the mark down shelf. When I turned around after I was finished looking an employee accused me of taking a mark down sticker off one of the products. I did not know what she meant. I assured her that I did not do that. I had her look in my pockets and to no avail she did not find a sticker. She told me to put the sticker back but I did not have it. I would never do such a thing. There were customers around who could hear her yelling at me and I was totally insulted and humiliated. I told the manager that I must spend at least $500.00 a month (if not more) in that store and to make sure that their employees get a story right before they start accusing someone of such a thing. From now on I will but my grocery's at Stop and Shop (where you can get gas points instead of being harassed). She never even apologized. I will never ever step into another Shaw's grocery store again. They lost a good customer after that experience. read more
