You can find just about everything that you could possibly need when visiting a small New England town on the Farm Coast. Great Little Compton apparel, Even found a rubber ch. As expected it is a little expensive, but better than a 30min drive to the next closest store.

    ALDI - ALDI, Middletown

    ALDI

Aldi is the kind of grocery store that rewards the prepared shopper and I say that with admiration…read more You bring your own bags, you bring your quarter for the cart, and in return, Aldi brings you something rare in retail: consistency, clarity, and value without the fluff. Let's start with the layout. Whether I'm in Missouri or Maine, stepping into an Aldi feels like slipping into a familiar rhythm. The aisles are predictably arranged, the signage is direct, and the essentials--milk, eggs, produce, pantry staples--are right where I expect them. That uniformity isn't just convenient; it's comforting. I know where my stuff is, and I don't waste time wandering. Now, about the prices. Aldi is inexpensive, not cheap. That distinction matters. Cheap implies corner-cutting, i.e., flimsy packaging, questionable quality, or a race to the bottom. Inexpensive means smart sourcing, streamlined operations, and a no-frills approach that passes the savings on to you. Aldi's store-brand products often rival national brands in taste and quality, and the savings are real. You won't find loyalty programs or coupon gimmicks here. Just straightforward pricing that respects your budget. The quarter-for-a-cart system? Brilliant. It keeps the parking lot tidy and the overhead low. And the bag-your-own-groceries model? It's a small trade-off for the kind of prices that make you feel like you've outsmarted the system. I'm a huge fan. Aldi doesn't try to be everything. It just tries to be good at what it does. In a world of bloated supermarkets and performative retail, that kind of focus feels refreshingly honest. [Review 1081 of 2025 - 86 in Rhode Island - 24635 overall]

Had to use the ladies room that was actually clean but had no toilet paper. There was trash and empty boxes scattered thru out. The self checkout looked like it never got cleaned. I have found Trader Joe's the be reliably the best source for organic food items from fresh produce…read moreto dairy, at the lowest prices. A quick and easy stop. I also buy other ogranic items such as nuts and dried fruits as well as flour and sugar. Their turkey products are not as available as previously (I used those turkey cutlets all the time!) but they have plenty of chicken and beef. The cheese section is very good. Grind your coffee beans in house if you like. A nice tea selection. A few health and beauty items. Season items like fried onions for holiday cooking. Shared parking lot sometimes gets filled closest to the store front as there are several other businesses using that space. Shopping carts are stored outside by the door. Hand baskets are inside the vestibule.

For a change of pace, its not a bad thing. The asides are bigger and are slightly slanted and store is clean and simple. Now I would say it's a step above Aldis, but slightly more expensive. All that said, this store has a terrible parking situation. Small, shared lot, and the light is long and tends to back traffic up. They really could benefit from moving across the street to old Price Right where the parking is much more ample, and there's more space for traffic to back up. They could even add a little space if they did that.
