a grocery store with a variety of food items

We come to Shaw's to grocery shop every week. The selection is great and the staff is usually pretty friendly. The parking lot can get a little crazy some times, so drive cautiously

Green bananas; they are not sweet for eating and can cause bloat. - A person, wearing a striped shirt and a watch, holds two green bananas close to the camera. The background shows a room with closed closet doors, a partially open door, and a patterned rug on a wooden floor. The room appears to be a bedroom or living space with typical household furnishings.

Shaws is my go to store when I'm in Newport. I don't like what happened in the fruit and veg department last week. My complaint was that every bunch of bananas were green. I asked the grocer in that department "why?" He just shrugged and didn't want to engage in a conversation. I thought it was odd but I bought them anyway. Well one week later they are still green with a very tough skin. I tried the bag trick and that didn't work. 1) I still want to know why? and 2) I want my $2.00 back. I don't know if it was a fluke but I think customers deserve more than being ignored.

I should sign up. The last Shaw's I went too was in Portsmouth , ME. We had just finished lunch at Siam Square (which I know you read those two reviews) and decided ice cream was in order. We couldn't find a 31 so this was our stop. You know me, I gotta explore and I should have brought my hydro flask with me because this place is huge. It gives BJ a run for it money on floor space. Ok I'm slightly exaggerating again but it's big. The layout is different from what I'm use too from Safeway. We all know their under the same company with the signature brand logo. It seems that all or almost all of the refrigerated section goes along the walls of the store vice the middle. And yes the dairy section is strategically placed in the back. In the middle, is the medical section with the security monitors. Not very high def but hopefully it does it's job. And of course there is the deli section, a seafood section (sorry peeps no POKE), a bakery section that smells great, and an international section. Opps I forgot to look for spam and compare. I did the self checkout thing and tried to use my number for discounts and points. Of course, it didn't take so I have to register next time. And if you remember my Safeway review from 2017 you'll see my TIP on how to get the local discount. Overall four stars. You'll find what you need to plan your next meal. Why not five? Really it's a supermarket, if they passed out free samples like Costco that would be a different story. Now excuse me, I gotta get to the hotel before the ice cream melts. M

I need to give it a 5 star just for having Prime beef! For those that are unaware, beef is graded as USDA Prime, Choice, or Select. Prime is usually reserved for hotels and restaurants to used. It has great marbling and flavor but does come at a higher price point. Choice is generally what you see on the supermarket shelves and is great in its own right! Marbling is still good but compare them side by side and the difference is clear. Select is usually not sold in supermarkets but rather in processed foods.

Shaw's has all the basic supermarket finds plus a few extras, would have to say it is up to par with the better markets in same class. The best part of store is the olive bar, great selection and well laid out. Store is kept clean and smells of fresh produce despite a small selection. I gave four stars due to the rural area, ease of access, plenty of parking, cleanliness, and central location of store in Middletown.

Thank you for carrying the bread brand Heidelberg! It's one of most natural brands that I used to get in NY. Now I can buy fresh at Shaws!

Nice place, clean. Good prices. If your looking for a great Whopi Pie, this is the place to get one, or two or three.

It was great to have a large grocery store near our hotel during our stay in the Newport area.

Let's start with the layout. Whether I'm in Missouri or Maine, stepping into an Aldi feels like slipping into a familiar rhythm. The aisles are predictably arranged, the signage is direct, and the essentials--milk, eggs, produce, pantry staples--are right where I expect them. That uniformity isn't just convenient; it's comforting. I know where my stuff is, and I don't waste time wandering. Now, about the prices. Aldi is inexpensive, not cheap. That distinction matters. Cheap implies corner-cutting, i.e., flimsy packaging, questionable quality, or a race to the bottom. Inexpensive means smart sourcing, streamlined operations, and a no-frills approach that passes the savings on to you. Aldi's store-brand products often rival national brands in taste and quality, and the savings are real. You won't find loyalty programs or coupon gimmicks here. Just straightforward pricing that respects your budget. The quarter-for-a-cart system? Brilliant. It keeps the parking lot tidy and the overhead low. And the bag-your-own-groceries model? It's a small trade-off for the kind of prices that make you feel like you've outsmarted the system. I'm a huge fan. Aldi doesn't try to be everything. It just tries to be good at what it does. In a world of bloated supermarkets and performative retail, that kind of focus feels refreshingly honest. [Review 1081 of 2025 - 86 in Rhode Island - 24635 overall]

First time was 7/2023 and I complained to management. Rarely go in there but did see this employee occasionally and was disappointed that he wasn't terminated after the first incident. A few nights ago I shopped for a few things. Same rude employee was bringing in carts. I unloaded mine and the store was closer. Rude employee was leaning against the building playing in his phone so I just brought the cart to him and walked off He totally flipped out. Grabs the carriage and makes a huge production of bringing it back to the parking lot, 5 cars past mine to the cart corral. I'm sitting in my car wondering what the hell this idiots problem is. Called the store, got the manager in charge and even he was baffled by the whole incident but said he was going to talk to him Doubt It'll do any good. The union protects these idiots: since I'm still really upset about the whole senseless incident 5 days later I'll be calling the store manager at some point after thanksgiving and taking this to corporate as well. I'm fed up with rudeness and this was so uncalled for. It takes a lot to upset me and this isn't ending til I see him terminated
