Service here is terrible, I stopped in on a visit to the area and used the self check out for a few items like coffee and sweet bread. Like they always do, the self checkout had an issue. A male employee came over, pushed me out of the way without saying anything, and proceeded to take all items out of my bag to make sure I wasn't stealing anything. It was incredibly rude. After checking everything and putting it all back he cleared the error message and walked away, never once saying a word. Service is important to me for that reason it's now Shaw's for me! read more

It's really sad how one cart collector can ruin an entire grocery trip with an attitude for no reason. This isn't the first incident. First time was 7/2023 and I complained to management. Rarely go in there but did see this employee occasionally and was disappointed that he wasn't terminated after the first incident. A few nights ago I shopped for a few things. Same rude employee was bringing in carts. I unloaded mine and the store was closer. Rude employee was leaning against the building playing in his phone so I just brought the cart to him and walked off He totally flipped out. Grabs the carriage and makes a huge production of bringing it back to the parking lot, 5 cars past mine to the cart corral. I'm sitting in my car wondering what the hell this idiots problem is. Called the store, got the manager in charge and even he was baffled by the whole incident but said he was going to talk to him Doubt It'll do any good. The union protects these idiots: since I'm still really upset about the whole senseless incident 5 days later I'll be calling the store manager at some point after thanksgiving and taking this to corporate as well. UPDATE #3 I think. Todays 11/22/23 the day before Thanksgiving. I have 3 vets in my neighborhood that are all alone. They have nobody left to to take care of them. Nobody left to celebrate the holidays. I do whatever I can to help them out with whatever problems they have. Every year for the last 4 years and counting I make them Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner. I don't shop at Stop and Shop anymore because of my previous issues explained in this review. I drive to Market Basket. I forgot to buy Ritz crackers for the stuffed mushrooms today. I asked my sister if she could swing me by a family pack of Ritz Crackers because I don't have the time. I'm making an entire meal for my huge family and one for my Vets. Guess where she went. Stop and Shop. I go to break up the crackers and they're stale as can be. I look at the label it expired on November 9 th. 13 days ago. I call my sister up and asked where she bought them from and she said Stop and Shop. Now, I had to go to Shaws to get some or one of the courses are ruined. She wasn't hearing going back out for me. If you read my entire review I talked about the stale cookies and crackers 5 months ago and here we are. AGAIN!!! I'm tired of this. I don't even shop there anymore and their BS is affecting me still. I'm now filing a complaint with the board of health, the attorney generals office and the Better Business Bureau. I'm also calling corporate on Monday after the holiday weekend to see what they have to say about all of this and invite them to read my review of their store. I'll see if they even care for that matter. If I can figure out how to record the call I'll share it in this review as an update. After all my call will most certainly be recorded by them. Im also putting them on Facebook blast as well. This isn't some campaign to slander Stop and Shop. This is a result of being ripped off for years now and being sold food not fit for consumption against our wishes. They know exactly what they are doing. This is far from a coincidence. This is happening all the time to everyone who shops there. This isn't just my dumb luck. I'm just the squeaky wheel in the bunch and I'm beyond fed up with Stop and Shops shotty practices. A slight disclaimer before I start... I only did the pick up curbside due to COVID. I was quite pleased with the shop and their prices. They had excellent deals online and the app is incredibly easy to use. The proximity to the hotel I am in is incredibly helpful as well and they had all the things that I needed. There was a replacement of some salt and pepper shakers, but they gave me the better price and I have no complaints. When the employee came to my car she was professional and opened my car door, dropped off the food and it was all done quickly and efficiently. I would definitely shop here again. read more

On a very busy summer Saturday noon, the Middletown, RI, Stop and Shop had only one cashier on duty, and long lines queueing up at the self-checkout kiosks, which were jamming up as well. This Stop and Shop has been moving towards understaffing for several years now, a problem other grocery stores in the area do not seem to have. Today was straw/camel's back situation. I just became a loyal Shaw's customer after 25 years at this Stop and Shop. Shaw's manages to pay enough to attract and hold onto staff, and has a cleaner, better store overall anyway. It's a shame that operations have gone so downhill at this store. read more

I come here strictly for convenience and for their double coupons perk. My biggest complaint would have to be with the deli counter. When I ask for my cold cuts to be cut thin, I expect them to be thin. I recently when there and spent over 10$ for a pound of ham. The guy showed me a thin cut piece that I approved. When I got home I was disgusted. The rest of the ham was cut in such thick pieces I was unable to eat it. Such a waste of money. The same went for the cheese and salami I also bought. There have been occasions where I brought home produce that rotted within the same day or grew mold within the same day. I will no longer buy produce here. I have never had a problem with the fish and meat section. Friendly staff and always fresh. Friendly cashiers also. read more

I have to give the cashiers at this establishment a lot of credit. I have witnessed the rudeness of the customers, and how they treat the help here. These folks are overworked, and trying the best they can with the limited amount of staff. How about you customers try being a little more patient when you see ONE cashier on duty. Or try not to blame the cashier for the higher prices. They are being paid far less than many on the island, and are there because they want to be. How about giving them a break??? read more

Perhaps they should teach the robot to work in the bakery. He definitely has more initiative, professionalism, and customer service skills than anyone behind the bakery counter. Ordered a cake, they refused to make it to spec, and when I came by to pick it up, with 24 hours notice it still wasn't done. This place sucks. read more

Wow, all your prices are up, closed butcher shop, Deli department is more interested in putting out lbs of meat pre-cut...the chilled shelf that the deli meat is in is NOT convenient for us but always full...I don't want a pound of day old deli meat! You've constently drop the items I go there for...and low and behold with all the cuts (one cashier open?) you've made..somehow there is money for a remodel? And as of April 30th...you are going to charge 10 cents for brown bags that rip? It's too bad, most all of your employees are wonderful. My Dad shopped that store every DAY!, for 40 years. I find myself going to different stores now...for better prices and the items I want...I stopped in there to get a Smithfield porkloin on sale for $5.99 and you didn't have any...but the day after the sale ended, and the price went from $7.99 to $8.99 the shelf was completely stocked...COMPLETELY! read more

I love this supermarket! Granted, I've only been there once, while I was waiting for my laundry next door. But they have a wide selection of fruit, bread, etc. My bf and I got a croissant (very fresh), an apple turnover (not overly sweet, and not so much filling that you feel sick eating it), and another bread (I think it had garlic and/or onions in it, which was also very good). We also got Icelandic yogurt called "Skyr," which was really thick. I mean, it was like trying to eat peanut butter by itself: results in dry mouth. That was our own fault, but it's strange, because the company that made it is based in NYC, where I'm from, but I'd never seen it--in NYC or elsewhere--before that day. This supermarket is very clean, and it--like many Stop and Shop stores--has handheld scanners to facilitate your shopping. It's on your left as soon as you enter the building. I didn't see it until I was leaving; otherwise, I would've wanted to try it. There aren't any Stop and Shops near me, so this would have been a novel experience. Oh well, next time! read more

Being from Revere, I would think the prices there were a lot (compared to local staples like price rite and market basket that is), but the ones in Middleton and Newport are even more pricey. read more

OK, so, this is my ONE HUNDREDTH REVIEW, and I'm doing it on Stop n Shop. Try not to be too jealous. Yup, this is my life. Not sure how it turned out this way either. Ok? Fk off. It was Valentines day and there was a greeter at the door standing in front of a giant chocolate fondue display that seemed to be frozen in motion. Or dried up. Dried up stagnant static chocolate LOVE. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY FOLKS. Would you like to try some fondue? I can see your eyes looking past me little lady. Um, no! No thanks, thanks though - I'm ok (even though I'm NOT ok! I am totally depressed and it has never ever been this bad in my life before but thankfully GNC next store has fish oil pills and st. johns wort but that's for another review-story) but in the case of "fondue" yes -- I do not lie -- really, I'm good. How gross is fondue anyways? Melty ICK. Shared sticks. Germs galore. And don't even get me started on the combination of fruit and chocolate... yuck city. Country of gnar. Poor dude. He's just doing his job, standing in front of that fondue. Who am I to judge anyways? A single, miserable, 28 year old girl grocery shopping with her dad on valentines day writing her 100th review on yelp about another Stop & Shop. It's ok: don't cry. We beelined towards the dinky health section - the Newport location has a much bigger, better lit one, but here I found some good things like Dr.Praeger's spinach patties (whoops - it's his veggie burgers that are truly the bomb, oh well, douse em in hot sauce and enjoy your health). Poor dad, had to follow me around while I neurotically debated on whether or not to buy hot sauce (Sriacha costs like $5 here which is very pricey) or whether to invest in brown rice flour and is it really gluten free? If I'm making cookies then maybe I should just saw screw the gluten free. But then again... it could be better. And if I don't buy the hot sauce then maybe I should just put those spinach patties back as well... And it goes on and on! Big, typical store. Grocery store. Though, this is one of those grocery stores that....maybe it's because of the location, I don't know - but it's just not....quite....nice. Something about the lighting, as if, perhaps, one single bulb on every row of lights is missing. Just gives off a...a... a.. food stamp vibe. Though, hardly ghetto. And I DO know my ghetto grocery stores from the days of living in far out non gentrified areas of Queens and Brooklyn, respectively. First it was Far Rockaway, then it was Bushwick... Digressing again! I need ADD meds. Dad made fun of the check out lady for having to wear a hot pink feather boa atop a flaming canary yellow polo shirt, saying (rather loudly MUCH to my -- and her -- chagrin) "BE THAT WASN'T YOUR IDEA TO WEAR THAT SHIRT, WAS IT" And she looked up, somewhat feebly (it broke MY heart) and nodded. Broken. Old enough to be my grandma, gosh knows how long she had been standing that day: an honest clerk. Not fair. I feel so disgusted with myself for being on unemployment this whole time, probably making more money than she does. Maan. Is this depressing or is this depressing? Or am I just depressed. Let me start by saying that I've lived on Aquidneck Island for 26 and have been shopping at this Stop & Shop for 26 years. Unfortunately, there have been a series of disappointments with the staff there. Here are the most recent: 1.) I heard the woman who roasts the chickens exclaim "You f*ckin' a** hole". I don't know who she was addressing (a fellow employee perhaps?) but in any case, I heard it and this language is inappropriate. 2.) I witness an employee in the bakery department switching out the "sell by" labels on the bakery items. In other words, customers would be buying stale items thinking they were fresh because of the updated label. 3.) Also in the bakery department, I accidentally dropped a box of cookies which then opened with cookies scattered on the floor. I am sorry for that. I immediately bought this to the attention of a bakery staff member (and apologized) and nothing was done. I stood there and would not leave until finally the staff member came and discarded the cookies. 4.) A group of three employees were standing in a group commiserating. As I observed this, one in the group turned to me and asked in an aggressive manner "Can we HELP you?" In other words, I was being told to mind my own business. Needless to say, it will be a while before I return to this Stop & Shop again. read more

A one stop shop that has just about everything you can think of. I frequent this location based on the proximity to work when I leave. The store hours are robust and accommodate even shift work needs when looking for a quick bite. The seafood section of this store is the highlight with one gentleman from the south who can tell you how to prepare each and every item if unfamiliar. I wish I could remember his name but to me this is the stores greatest asset. Workers knowledgeable in their field of work. The deli section has never impressed me with minimal recommendations when asking about various meats. The pre-made cheeses and meats laid out for the quick shopper have turned out slimy or dry on more than a few occasions so standing in the slow moving line is your best option. The main store has several employees that all huddle around the few open lanes towards the front so if looking for help look no further or get those fit bit steps in while you wander aimlessly around until you bump into your item. Prices are moderately competitive with no rhyme or reason why things go on or off sale. Coupons are available through the mail which do help as well as pamphlets upon entry to the store but I have found that soft drinks, sport drinks, and juices are normally cheaper elsewhere. read more

I ordered my wedding flowers from Stop and Shop. What an absolute surprise- the most beautiful flowers for my special day. They stayed fresh and alive days after. One of my bridesmaids bouquets lasted almost two weeks! I put brooches into our bouquets and they created the most perfect bouquet, with my brooches and family heirlooms attached. I highly recommend this Stop and Shop for their florist department! read more

I love this store for the way they keep everything so neat and clean! I also like the way how some of the help ( not all) really go out of their way to help you. There is only 1 AGGRAVATING thing about that store and that is those damn self- checkouts! Either fix them or get rid of them!! read more
