I go to Aldi Middletown store regularly. On today's visit the store was in terrible shape. Outside cart area was filled with trash. Had to use the ladies room that was actually clean but had no toilet paper. There was trash and empty boxes scattered thru out. The self checkout looked like it never got cleaned. Listen this is still the only place these days that you can come out of a grocery store with a FULL bag of groceries for $20. I mean it's impossible. I buy all my vegetables at Aldis. I'm not sure how they keep their prices so low. Actually I take that back. I do know how they keep their prices so low because I have researched the inner workings of their business model. I'll save you the lecture but everything they do is to keep their prices low. I'll list the 3 things I love about Aldis. 1. Nice fresh and absolutely cheap vegetable and fruit selection. For some reason it's very hard to find a supermarket that has scallions. But aldis still manages to have it for $.79. That's amazing. And cherries for $2.99 a pound. And strawberries for $1.79. 2. Great ice cream. Only get the aldis super premium brand. That thing is a bit expensive but it's heavy. Kids really dig it. 3. Super fast and efficient check out line. No self service here. You will be out of here in a jiffy. Now the 3 things I hate about Aldi's. 1. By afternoon time the vegetable choices can be a little meager.... 2. That great ice cream only really has two choices. Chocolate and Vanilla. If you like strawberry. You are are screwed. Every bluemoon they have Dulce De Leche. And when they do we stock up. 3. That superfast check out line can sometimes give you little anxiety because you feel like they are shoving the groceries to you and telling you to get the F out of there. So there you have it. My favorite grocery store to shop. Some Aldi's are a wild mess- this one is organized very well and I can usually find what I need. Sometimes more than what I need with the "aisle of shame." I think Aldi is a great idea. I think of it sort of like an alternate trader Joe's with not as many dependable selections. I've been here quite a few times in person, and since the covid pandemic, I've ordered grocery delivery from here a bunch through instacart. The store itself is usually very clean which something it definitely has going for itself. The vegetables and fruits are a bit of a hit and miss, with sometimes featuring amazing organic items and hard to find specialty items like Meyer lemons, but other times I get home and my cherry tomatoes are moldy inside the package or my citrus are dry inside instead of being fresh. For the packaged side of the store, I have definitely been interested in there Aldi Finds area which includes things that they have just for a short time. One time I was able to get some amazing "just egg" which is a specialty vegan egg replacer and that was pretty thrilling for me since otherwise I would have to drive to whole foods to get it. I've also found pretty cool vegan burgers, specialty cheeses, and holiday themed items. In the center of the store they have their typical non-perishable goods. I've been pretty impressed with their organic bakery items such as coconut sugar, powdered sugar, specialty flours and lots of gluten-free baking items. Their coffee and their pre-made sauces are pretty amazing including coffee from small growers all over the world and ethnically diverse sauces like tikka masala and butter chicken sauce. The cold case and the frozen case are also a hit and miss area, sometimes they have a good selection and other times It's really picked over. I usually opt for non-dairy milk and frozen salmon as staples. I like the idea of having to use a quarter to get your cart as a way for them to police their cart return area, and I also like that they don't offer bags unless you purchase them which helps to incentivize people to bring their reusable bags pre-covid. Check out is super rushed and gives me a bit of anxiety with everybody watching and trying to get out of the way of the handed checker. Despite all of the negatives, I will keep returning to Aldi because of the prices and the fact that it's so much closer to home than any of the trader Joe's or whole foods in the state. read more

Excellent store! Cheap produce and cheap everything. Lots of treasures in the center aisle, but buy them when you see them bc once they are gone, they won't be replenished. Really good selection of cheese for charcuterie. Always something new when you go and always the classic items. Remember that most of it is "off" brand, but tastes the same! Be prepared with a quarter to "rent" the cart/carriage and bring your own bags, but leave them in your trunk. They will put your groceries into a cart and since COVID sucks, the best way to pack up is to put them in your bags back at your car. Don't be offended by the grouchy workers, they are just busy and efficient!! read more

Love this store! Although the store is small, they have a produce, meat, dairy, deli, frozen, and household section. They do carry off brand items but occasionally you will find name brand items (Head & Shoulders). The spice section is my heaven with each under $2! Produce, dairy, and baked goods are dirt cheap compared to Shaw's/Stop and Shop and even the wholesale store at BJ's. If you are a single or a couple, I would definitely recommend shopping here. I do not have this around the boston area where I live but I will definitely shop at it if they open one up! read more

Check out people are rude as hell and assume you know how to do things "their way." I had no cart - said "no cart please" - she put my stuff in a cart - "i said oh no cart please" a little louder as she started shoving the next persons stuff in the same cart and she goes: "What the hell do you want me to do with it - i've got no table here." So I said "alright, thanks for the attitude." She says, "YOU have me one first!" I told her I simply thought she hadn't heard me because she didn't say a word to me an ignored my request for no cart. This Aldi has been around for the past 5-6 years.. its great, recently renovated.. friendly management and employees.. store is usually pretty clean and orderly. They mostly carry their own brands and in the past 5 years I've liked everything I've tried, which is amazing cause I'm picky! Here's the thing. I so want to love Aldi. They've been my go-to for good value groceries for years. But our experience in Middletown was far from satisfactory. The folks who work there are so friendly and helpful, the aisles are open and clean, but the produce. Good God. Everything went off within 2 days. Everything. All the berries, vegetables, just everything got moldy and gross just 2 days in the fridge. This Aldi is not very good at all. First, the setup was different than every other Aldi across the nation. It's layout is mixed and you have to go hunting for the dairy section because it's hidden in the back next to the paper towels and cleaning products. Really people? They put whatever they feel like wherever they feel like. So one star is deducted for the confusing layout. The items here are also very limited compared to the Aldi in East Providence. And I was very disappointed because the items that were available are more expensive here than at the other store. For example, the vanilla extract here was 3.49 when it's 1.19 at the one in East Providence. It doesn't make sense and they don't carry everything you need. They don't sell lasagna noodles, or a lot of canned soups or spices. It felt like a convenience store rather than a typical Aldi. So two stars are taken away for the price and selection. The other star I have to take away is for the employees here. They are constantly in your way and block the aisles with their metal shelves and won't move them. It's rude to the customers to do that and they aren't apologetic. What is this? A game of PAC-man? I felt like I was being chased by metal carts and I spent more time trying to navigate than shop for food. In addition, the other problem was my cashier which couldn't scan properly. She charged me twice for one item and then had to void it and then charged me an item that wasn't even mine by grabbing the item from the person behind me on the conveyor belt. She isn't paying attention and I had to come back inside after looking at the receipt and got a refund in cash because they can't put it back on your card. So the last star is taken away for poor customer service. The only star I can give is for the location of the store itself. It's much more spacious, nice empty parking lot (I now see why), clean on the outside, and the carts are stored in a space next to the store so they don't get wet when it rains. That's the only plus. But no one shops based on the outside of the store, they only shop for what's in the inside. Beauty is in the inside. And this store had none. In conclusion, I would advise everyone to try the other Aldi in East Providence which is much nicer and friendlier. read more

My girlfriend and i come to this Aldi location every week for our grocery shopping. Hands down the cheapest on the island and comparable to stop and shop and Shaw's. They don't carry name brands but that's ok! That's how they pass the savings onto us! I will gladly take a 1.79 box of Millville Cheerios versus a general mill box of Cheerios for well over 3 if not 4 dollars. The staff is great they are trained on everything so sometimes you might only see one cashier but that doesn't mean that the two other people stocking shelves won't come up to help cash out that big line. Obviously they don't have the same selection as Shaw's or stop and shop as their store is small but considering the prices it's worth it. Overall a great value for working class people who can't afford to dish out big money for groceries. read more

I am beyond disgusted by the experience I just had here. The cashier I just dealt was so rude and nasty I'm still in shock. I came in with my 2 small children who were both in the shopping cart. My 2 year old was crying for the apple that was being rung up. I quietly and patiently calmed him down. The cashier (whose name is Kristen based off my receipt) kept rolling her eyes at my son and huffing and puffing and was clearly annoyed by him. I couldn't believe my eyes. It took everything in me not to make a huge scene in the store. I will NEVER shop at this Aldi again. If you cannot deal with a crying toddler you should not work with the public. read more

Employees are awful. There's an older "man" cashier that's rude and quick. I get he must hate life being older and having a minimum wage job but that's not my problem. He throws your items in the cart even if you're holding out your bag and it's just a few items. I don't want a cart and I certainly don't want to touch the person's cart ahead of me unsanitized. What is the sense of limiting capacity at your store if you want me to then take the person's cart ahead of me after they've touched it? Makes ZERO sense Aldi. Get with it. They have improved since six months ago! I just walked in the door and was like SHAZAM! Mind Blown! They rearranged everything! It makes more sense now, with produce and refrigerated products right there and they are WELL STOCKED and even had the KETO bread and other products that have not been there before! The cashiers seemed to have slowed down a touch instead of acting like they can't wait to get rid of you and they seem like they are happier. Still not super cheery, but when it is busy there, it is a lot for them, and some people are so rude when they have to wait in line, huffing, and puffing and making the cashiers feel pressured. Be patient and kind to cashiers people, they put up with remarkable things. They have some great gluten-free items. They are clean and small compared to other Aldi's so it is good for a quick trip or for the disabled and elderly. The prices are great. The only thing they have left to do is find a spot nearer to the entry for the mobility cart for the disabled and elderly to use. It is a bit too far from the door for most who really need them. Hands down the cheapest groceries in town. They primarily carry proprietary brands, so don't expect to find name brand items. However with Aldi branded items, that's where you get the savings. They use brands like Milleville (literally the same factory as Generals Mills), where you don't get charged for advertising and can get a full box of cereal for under $2. They have a "double your money back" guarantee with regard to their items being of comparable quality with other generic brands carried elsewhere. Their coffee is a great value and delicious. Among the best value for meat/poultry/fish on the island. Just be aware they have a rolling stock, so they may not necessarily carry the same items every week - a way to allow their small store to appeal to a larger demographic. Regardless, the low prices, comparable quality, and unique selection make this place a gem in Middletown. If you can go without name brands, check them out! read more
