The first thing to note is that my boyfriend brought his 7 year old son to pick up food, and I get a text about how the owner "was so nice" (to the child) that he deserves five stars just for kindness and friendliness. Gosh I don't even know where to start. This place is amazing! If you're vegan this place is for you. I usually get a veggie plate with falafel or falafel and eggplant with mujudara. I always end up asking for extra pita bread and they are always more than happy to give me more. Most of the desserts are also vegan (e.g. maamoul date, pistachio baklava). Every single bite was an orgasm in my mouth. The staff were wonderful. They waited for my friend and I to get there even though they stop taking orders at 6:45pm. They even gave us extra food. Shawarma Palace is the best shawarma/falafel spot in Worcester. Beyond that, it is arguably the number one lunch-time restaurant in downtown Worcester in terms of price/value and service. The veggie plate can be ordered in a variety of ways, but I highly suggest the eggplant which is cooked to perfection with all the right spices. I usually get it served on a bed of rice and lentils and it comes with a side of hummus, baba ganoush, grape leaves, pickles, pickled beets and toum. Additionally, the owner Charlie will toss some falafal into the plate, or other items if he wants you to try it. It should be noted that there is some variety to the offerings on the plate, randomly, depending on the day and what is available. The price is right at the Shawarma Palace and there are few options for getting such a large, satisfying plate anywhere else downtown for under $10. In terms of value, this place can't be beat. In terms of selection and offerings for folks with any dietary restrictions, there are many great options for folks who eat gluten free or vegetarian. The only negative thing I can say about Worcester's Shawarma Palace is that the location is a bit small and it often gets so crowded that there may not be a seat at lunch time. It is certainly a low-key, hole in the wall type of establishment and there are no frills in terms of the ambiance. I am hopeful that the location can be expanded or moved to another spot right in the city center. It's certainly a favorite of many folks working downtown. But even with the crowd (a testament to how good the food is), the staff manages to get the food prepared and served very quickly. Speaking of the staff, it should be mentioned that they go well above and beyond your average restaurant staff. The owner Charlie seems to know every customer by name, and he almost always knows what will be ordered before it is said. The counter help is also very friendly and patrons frequently sit and converse with them over their meal as if everyone is one big family. I highly recommend you try Shawarma Palace the next time you are downtown Worcester at lunch time. Come for the food and the price and stay for the warm company. read more

We got a mixed shawarma plate and a vegetarian plate, both were delicious. The very nice gentlemen that took our order brought the food to us at our table. Later he brought over a sample of their baklava which was excellent, but we were just passing through Worcester and not heading home, otherwise we would have bought a generous amount of it. The owner is so friendly and personable and wants to make sure that you enjoy his cooking. From talking to him, you can tell he is so proud of what he makes and is happy to share it with you. Crunchy, warm, interesting flavors - I don't even know exactly what was in this sandwich but it was delicious. Shawarma Palace had been on my list since it opened, but I had to move out of Worcester before I found a reason to go. I found myself at Union Station with two hours to kill before my final doctors appointment to transfer my records to a new practice. I thought to myself "well, you're here, you probably won't be back any time soon and you've always wanted to try this place, so why not." I took a quick 10 minute walk and walked in. Shawarma Palace follows the trend of all the other falafel and shawarma places in Worcester, simple decor, order at the counter and food comes to you at one of the few tables. Nothing fancy, so nothing to distract you from the food. I went up to the counter and ordered the falafel plate and a bottle of water. The gentleman at the counter was pleasant enough and told me to have a seat and he'd bring the food out to me. The food came out quickly and with extra pita bread too, a big plus when you're eating falafel. I dug in, and to be honest, it wasn't anything special. The falafel were on the dry side and not especially flavorful, which is sad because they're clearly made fresh here. The hummus and baba ghanoush certainly helped the falafel, but falafel should be able to stand on it's own without having to slather it with other seasonings. The salad felt extraneous to the meal, the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, but flavorless, and were only improved slightly by the dressing. In the end, the best thing to eat on the plate was the pita with the whipped garlic, which would make an excellent appetizer, but wasn't able to save the meal. I'm really disappointed that Shawarma Palace didn't live up to my expectations, both in the hierarchy downtown Worcester restaurants and Worcester Middle Eastern eateries,especially in light of all the good things I've heard and read about it. Next time I'm in the area, unless I'm out of options, I think I'll skip the trip Shawarma Palace. read more
