I have to say that the service is great- I admit sometimes the wait time for a plate may take sometime, but the customer service is just great. The Manager handed every customer FREE cookies just because he felt like it, he also went around asking if everything was fine, very polite man. My sister was very impressed that she asked me to take her again the next day ( She is from out of town)! The food is not bad. Shawarma King is a place to eat and relax. No one rushes you to leave, and they are more then happy to help you in any way. It is cozy. I love going there. The prices are cheap. If you want to go to a place where you can hang out with a friend and talk with them without shouting this is the place for you. It even has an outdoor patio. I just get a good vibe from this place. I was about to hit up Jimmy Johns for lunch, but I decided to try something new. I remembered bookmarking SK and thought this would be a perfect time to knock it off my list. I personally love the bookmarky thing..without it I wouldn't be able to remember half the places I want to try. The funny thing is, I probably wouldn't have ever tried SK if it weren't for the reviews because the place looks like a shake from the outside and is lacking major curb appeal. The reviews weren't out of this world, however, I love Shawarma, so the reward would be worth the risk. On the counter there was a display of different foods that you could order like chicken, lamb shanks, salads, etc...reminded me of Fadis but at a way smaller scale. I eyed the chicken, but before I entered my mind was set on the chicken shawarma. I ordered the chicken Shawarma which comes with chicken slowly cooked on the rotisserie thing, lettuce, tomatoes and yogurt sauce I believe. I'm not a fan of tomatoes so i ordered it without. The lady who took my order said i could take a seat and pay later. The Shawarma was okay. Not as good as the one at Cafe Mezza or the one I had in Bulgaria, but I'd definitely would go back if i ever wanted a quick bite. read more

Was craving some Kabobs on the way home from work today.. and finally decided to give this place a try.... Not disappointment at all! After first glance I was a bit apprehensive because there was no one in there and the waitresses were chatting up a storm at a table. Strolling up to the counter I went ahead and ordered the mixed grill.. after being informed that it would take 15-20 min to prepare.. I opt'd the pre-made buffet line ( I got rice, potatoes, and eggplant hummus) and that meat from the gyro looking machine. The food was pretty darn delicious! OMG WORST SHAWARMA EVER!!!!!! I feel awful for those that have written reviews saying this is the best shawarma they have had! I went for the 1st time tonight & got $35 worth of food for 2 ppl. The beef & chkn were the DRYEST & MOST FLAVORLESS meat ever!! I called & the mgr said she would tale care of it just bring it back. My order of 4 grape leaves had 3 left, "samuse" was order of 3 & I returned 2.5, about 80% of meat & rice was there. So I get there & She is COMPLETELY UNWILLING to do anything to fix the order. Lucky for me the owner was there so I was refunded. Im middle eastern so I know what Shawarma is suppose to taste like. The place that has waaaaaaaayyyy better food & prices is just a couple of blocks fm there called "HOUSE OF KABOB" their Dolme (grape leaves), Humus, Rice & Meat is OUTSTANDING! I ordered a chicken schwarma sandwich and meat pies to go, I like take out for places I've never visited before. The chicken "wrap" was cold, the lettuce that variety of iceberg that tastes slightly reminiscent of peanut butter and the "sauce" was watery and the only thing plentiful about the sandwich. Tried both the chicken shawarma sandwich and kibbeh and both were excellent! The sandwich was good size, neatly wrapped with all ingredients, and was very easy to eat on the go. We were in the Galleria area looking for a place to grab dinner. This place had such great reviews, we decided to check it out. It's cafeteria-style. We were one of three patrons in there, but somehow we stood in the "ordering" area for 10 minutes without any acknowledgement. After that, I order the chicken shwarma plate and hubby ordered the beef shwarma plate. For sides, we got stuffed grape leaves (good), hummus (too much tahini), fried eggplant (SUPER greasy, swimming in oil), spinach pie (dry and tasted pickled), kefta (dry), and moussaka (too liquidy, over-stewed). He loaded on the sides and sent them back into the kitchen to get microwaved. NOT a good sign. We had a seat and they brought the food to us. The chicken was juicy and crisp, but the beef was tough and overcooked. The sides were still cold. To redeem this mediocre meal, we got the cashew, pistachio, and lady finger baklava to go. We dug in as soon as we got home and sadly they were all mushy, not crisp at all (maybe from being too close to the shwarma roaster?) We were really disappointed and won't be back. read more

Great food and a great value. Fast and friendly service, no matter the time. while the chicken shawarma is excellent, I normally get the daily special. It's normally very good and normally in an excellent broth. You get the plate with 2 sides. I opt for a cold salad and the pickled items (onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, greek pickles and turnips (love the turnips). The garlic sauce is excellent on many things. read more

Never had a bad meal here. Wife and I were regulars when we were dating and after we married. We were on a first-name basis with Sam who rolled out the red carpet for us every time. Chicken tawook, lamb shanks, taboulli, roasted potatoes, all wonderful especially the 3-kabob combo which was my favorite. Pistachio baklava and Turkish coffee a perfect finish to a fabulous meal. I regularly order the falafel plate to-go here and it's always great! A lot of food for the price and the guys that work there are so nice. Recently I dined on the patio and it was such a pleasant surprise. Full of plants and a trickling fountain - it made for a peaceful workday break. I've liked it here before but tonight I had the humus and it was fizzy and carbonated and off flavor. When I told the lady about it she said that's how it tastes. When I was trying to describe it, she assured me no it was fine. Finally I asked her to taste it. She went back into the kitchen and came back and said they made it with too much lemon and more will be made tomorrow. So I went up to pay and told the girl the same thing, she said she would tell the cooks. But in the end not one person would even offer me a refund. I was in town for a meeting and saw this place. Stopped in for a quick bite. The souvlaki was so tough I couldn't eat it. And it was drowned in some kind of mayonnaise type sauce. The chicken had no flavor and half of it was spongy while the other half was hard as a rock. The tzatziki was disgusting and really seemed more like miracle whip. I am a picky eater for Middle Eastern food because I've had many ME friends cook from me from different parts of the Middle East. It's been a while since I've eaten here, and it's still as good as ever! They are SOOOOO SOOOO sweet whenever I visit, and excellent portions for the price, and I love their patio. I have to share my secret though because another young lady that is part Middle Eastern passed it on to me. She insisted she was going to order my chicken shawarma sandwich a special way: garlic mayo, hummus, onions, pickled beets, green pickles, jalapenos, and special red hot sauce and then the meat. I fought her tooth and nail on getting it regular, but she won, and I'M BLESSED that she did. It's the best way I've EVER had a chicken shawarma sandwich. The red sauce is to die for! I also always get an Arab sweet coffee (if you're a kava fan, absolute must try!!!), and a pistachio baklava. I also got the koffta beef plate (I think that's what it's called, only $9.00-$10.00 and plenty for two, just ask for 2 pieces of pita. They won't charge extra for it), and the mixed plate (1 chicken, beef, and something else kabob (I can't recall, but it was ALL SO GOOD) with grape leaves, cold beet & onion salad, and hummus, hummus, hummus. I gorged like an ancient Roman! IT WAS HEAVEN (but I totally over ate, even though I shared everything with another person. She took the rest of the mixed kabobs home). I was jonsing for some legit shwarma today so I came here based off the reviews. I'm SO GLAD I did. It was delicious- best I've had so far in Houston! So- walk in order at the counter- I got the mixed chicken/beef shwarma with a side of mousaka. They asked me if I wanted it hot, so I took a seat and they brought it to me. The lady that brought it to me (dif than the one I ordered from) asked me if I wanted bread with my mousaka, so I said yes. And she brings it back - I thought it was very nice of her to ask and she wanted to make sure I ate it the way she did. So I tore into the shwarma- tons of yummy tahini sauce, good ratio of pickles, tomato, lettuce. The only thing I didn't like is that they layered the chicken and beef ontop of eachother. I wanted to taste each individually. And, the beef was dry so its chicken from now on. But- for $4.35 per HUGE sharma for a total of $6.99 to include the mousakka can I complain? I wish the check out cash register guy was nicer- I had to say thank you to him- but hey a grumpy cashier won't keep my chowhounding ways away. I'll be back! read more
