I've been going here for years and their garlic sauce is my favorite thing on their menu. I eat it with almost everything. Their shawarmas are decent, but I usually get their half chicken plate which comes with three sides. I would probably share it between two people just because the portions are so big. You get huge portions at a reasonable price. I've also gotten the chicken kabob plate which is delicious and fresh, but be warned, it does take about 15-20 mins after you have ordered for your kabobs to come out. Took about 10 minutes to get. The kafta was well seasoned, but not spicy. Overall I prefer a spicier skewer. The spicy potatoes were a bit mediocre The hummus was excellent, as was the pita. Let's start with the Pros. the Restaurant itslelf is really inviting. Nice clean place with very friendly staff. As for the food, the Kabobs are excellent. All of their meats are well seasoned and not bland at all. The taste itself was not extraordinary but worth the money none the less. They also make some kick ass tabouleh with a nice tangy flavor. I was kinda surprised because im not one to eat my vegetables. Things i didn't like about the food was the pita bread which was very "meh" for lack of a better word. I don't think they are store bought but i do think they make them a day before or early in the morning because it was nice and cold. The rice was also "meh" with hardly any flavor to it. But what i really didn't like was the humus. I've had humus at other Mediterranean places that were waaaay better than this one. If you are ordering side dishes, skip the humus and buy it at an HEB which in my opinion is way better. The texture of the humus was also pretty gross resembling that of baby vomit. read more

My wife being Syrian (grew up there) we searched for great Middle Eastern food and when we found Sam and Shawarma King, we found a new home. They have the best Shawarma in Houston. For what we in the US think of as staple Middle Eastern food, hummus, tabouleh, baba ganoush, etc. they have the absolute best. Their falafel rocks the house and the people here are wonderful. Frankly, having eaten this food all over the world, I am grateful they are in Houston. If you take the time to sit there and eat, you will quickly realize there are people from all over the world who come to eat. Not just people from the Mid East, but there are a lot of them as well. When I see this diverse customer base, I believe it can mean only one thing: if you are not eating here, you are missing out. Put it on your bucket list please. Also, if you want to impress friends or colleagues, they can handle large orders if you give them reasonable notice. We love Shawarma King, I think in the past week and a half we have been there three times!!! I love wraps especially anything wrapped in a pita. The latest visit I got a chicken shawarma, I asked them to add onions, garlic sauce and hummus because otherwise they only add lettuce and tomatoes with hummus. My husband got a spicy chicken shawarma with the same fixings as I. I also ordered a side of spicy potatoes and a skewer of Chicken cubes for my daughter ... which we brought home because she did not eat. The shawarma wraps as expected were really good, but sometimes they can be a bit dry, I guess it depends on who is making them. Nevertheless, we enjoy them. The spicy potatoes, this time around weren't good ,they tasted stale and were neither spicy or lemony as I remember them from my previous visits, I guess it's my fault for not letting them know. The chicken cube skewer was really good, it had nice smoky taste and it is grilled fresh and you can just order a skewer by itself too. This visit I did not get my baklava fix but I love their Pistachio baklava. We will keep on returning. read more

The atmosphere is stoic. I visited Shawarma King because I'm tired of Le Fendee's overpriced menu. I drove all the way to Hilcroft to Shawarma King and was sadly disappointed. I tried their shawarma entree, the chicken was bland, where are the seasonings? The garlic dipping sauce was more like garlic gravy, way too watery, where was the garlic? The baba ghanoush was very much ok, it had a lot of eggplants added to the blend but it wasn't as tangy as it should have been, again where was the lemon? I noticed a lot of traditional Arabic seasonings were missing. The pita bread was stale and hard, whatever happened to putting the bread into the oven and warming it? They also reheated one of my sides, which came out hard as a rock and I couldn't eat it. The dolmas sucked too! Sharwarma's lack luster service and food if that is what you want to call it, is missing some stars. Wouldn't waste my time there again, I'll stick to the overpriced menu items at Le Fendee and put up with their shawarma which I don't care for over Shawarma King any day. read more
