Horrible incompetence! I cancelled my service with them and they screw up the final bill. They've been taking automatic payments from my credit card for years, but after I cancelled the account, they failed to take the last payment and instead sent a threatening letter about sending me to collections.
So, I went to pay in person at the Kiosk at Metrotown. They've got 2 guys working, despite having a decent number of people waiting. Not a big deal, I'll wait a bit. The guy spent ten finishing explaining cable channels to someone before telling them to look at it online. He found my account without any problems, but he didn't have access to any other information on my account. It would be nice, but fine, they can't get it for security reasons. I attempt to pay with my visa. Sorry, I can't take visa on this terminal. You'd have to wait for the other guy, on the other side. Who is still trying to talk to the same customers as he was talking to when I walked up. So he says he can take debit. I take a minute to confirm I've got enough in my checking account to cover it, and then let him take the payment. This process should take 2 minutes, right?
This results in him fishing under the desk for a bit, then talking to his coworker in a language that I think was chinese, or possible korean, then calling someone, talking to them in a language other than english, then pulling out another phone and talking to someone else. Eventually, he managed to run my debit card. And then it proceeded to say "Please wait". For about five minutes. And then it said transaction failed. So he tried to run it again. And again, five minutes later, it fails again.
I'm now getting to be late for work, so I leave. I call shaw support on the phone. They transfer me to the business department. They tell me that the debit transaction went through and the balance is now zero. I'm surprised by this, because at no point did I enter my PIN. I didn't know that that was possible. Anyways, I asked them to send me a receipt of the transaction by email.
Later, on my break, I check my bank balance. The transaction hasn't gone through.
So I call shaw back. They have no answers for me, but they promise to investigate. They also can't explain why they failed to charge the credit card on file in the first place.
I'm glad I left Shaw for Lightspeed. I'm saving more than $20 a month and I don't have to deal with Shaw's incompetence any longer. read more
