Last week, I lost my only motorcycle key. Per the recommendation of someone from one of my motorcycle groups, I gave Sharp Brothers a call. They gave me a quote that was doable so I took my bike there earlier this week. With how my bike is set up, they were not able to scope the ignition switch properly, so I tore apart the front end of my bike in their parking lot and took out the ignition switch. They were able to make a key for it in less than a minute. I asked for 4 motorcycle keys and asked them to make 3 copies of the bike padlock key I still had a spare to. All total, I got 7 keys, all of which work flawlessly, for less than what I was quoted over the phone. Steve was extremely friendly and helpful and even lent me some tools to make taking my bike apart easier as I had more primitive versions. They have made a loyal customer out of me. Phil called us in the morning and arrived early with our approval. He was very considerate, professional, knowledgeable and efficient... just an all around nice guy. He even repaired a Schlage electronic keypad lock that we thought we'd have to replace entirely. He looked at it and said "do you mind if I take it off the door and try something?" I was new to Austin and taking a walk around the neighborhood when I saw Sharp's. I needed a copy of my key made, so I just popped in. The man who helped me was friendly, and made my key quickly--so quickly, that I didn't realize until he had finished that I didn't have my wallet with me. He was kind, though, and gave me the copy of my key and told me I could just come back later and pay. As expected, the shop feels "older", but they've got everything they need to serve you! I'd lost the key to my bike roof rack towers (Yakima) and was in-and-out within 30 minutes, with three new keys (for just $35). They also served four other customers in that time span! I am a bit shocked by the reviews. After being denied key copying at Lowes (they didn't have the right size key), I headed downtown to work hoping I would find a locksmith on the way. That's when I came upon Sharp's. I walked in the door carrying my incredibly adorable and well-behaved 8 month old and barely got a glance from the woman behind the desk. When she finally did acknowledge my existence, it was as though I had just ruined her day. I gave her my keys and watched as she spent a few minutes searching for a match. A man came from the back room and joined her in the search. That's when the bickering began. She would point to a key and he gruffly told her it would or wouldn't work. She finally passed on my keys, telling him, very clearly, 4 keys. I had asked for 2 of each key, 4 total. A few minutes passed and he appears at the counter with a ring full of keys...8 of them. Yes, 8. Ugh. After the cold welcome, the bickering and doubling the number of keys, I paid for the 8 (still not sure why) and went on my way. I've used this place a few times. The shop is bare bones and kind of crowded but it works and I live off of South Congress so I go here for convenience. The cost of keys is very affordable. They lady there has always been nice to me. Most recently, I lost my mailbox key :( It cost me $68 dollars to get a new one! Most expensive mistake ever! It took about 15 minutes for them to open up the box and refit the mailbox with a new lock. They were fine and I'm happy I can open up my mailbox again! Just don't ask them about using the square..they're a little testy about it..oops! My mistake! Luckily, I didn't ask until everything was said and done! Love them, I like that the business is family owned and how often do you see that anymore. They do safes, houses, cars, bikes, and pretty much anything else you can loose keys to. Steve knows his stuff. I like that they frequently attend locksmith conventions and keep fresh on the latest technology (cars). I got my car done by them several years ago. Rather than getting it re-keyed at Ford for $200 they did it for a lot less. I have had several keys dame and recently got new front door hardware. They told me to be sure to get a certain type of deadbolt and taught me the reasons why. When I saw the guy again he, had just attended another conference where he bought a bunch of new locksmithing equipment. I guess I was just very impressed with the amount of training they do to stay current in that business. I wish my job would send me on trips to learn new trends in my job, but what ever. Went in to get my new car key cut and programmed, only for their machine to break and completely cut my new key wrong. I then waiting almost 3 weeks for them to find a new key only to come in and be told it wouldn't work. Horrible customer service! They charged me 35 dollars to cut my key (which they didn't cut right) then another 65 to have it programmed even after all of this! Would not recommend. Pay more and go to true professionals because this is not the place. read more

I showed up with one working Ford programmed key, one unprogrammed key, and one formerly-working-but-broken key. From my research, I didn't know exactly how they would do it, but I was hopeful that Sharp Brothers would know what to do and could keep me from having to pay dealership prices. Sure enough, for a surprisingly low cost, I left with four working keys (including the broken one which they told me how I could still use if desperate).
