    Mini dumpling soup
    Victoria C.

I came here to try the pan fried soup dumplings which were okay, but I still prefer the steamed soup dumplings instead. We came here for an early dinner and the restaurant was pretty full. We also ordered crab soup dumplings, mini wonton soup, and scallion pancakes. The best part of the meal was the crab soup dumplings which had thick enough skin that didn't break when you grab them, filled with lots of meat and soup. The scallion pancakes didn't have any scallions in it and just tasted like fried oil. The pan fried soup dumplings have a very thick outer skin that make it difficult to bite into. The service was good and they are able to turn tables over quickly to get people seated. Overall, I would choose another restaurant over this one if you're in the area.

Pretty good! We ordered the Braised Beef Noodle, Shredded Pork Noodle Soup, Pork Xioalongbao (Soup Dumplings), and regular pan-fried pork dumplings. Both of the soups were good and were a good portion to even share if you're getting another food item. The braised beef noodle soup had a clean broth, which was refreshing. The Shredded Pork Noodle soup didn't have much flavor, it was salty, and it didn't have much pork. Both of the dumplings were good, but nothing crazy. The service was great, and the staff was super nice! The place is cute!

The $1 pan fried buns was good...well the first order we got. The rest of the food was so so. The cucumbers were okay. The wooded ear mushroom needed more flavoring. And the rice cake was too salty. It was okay I guess. Mainly came for the pan fried bun special. The second batch we got wasn't as good and it tasted like the bottom was fried in really old oil so the bottom was extra brown.

Good service and decent Chinese food in Times Square area. Nice clean interior. Affordable and "Americanized" menu. Extensive menu and good serving sizes. Chicken wonton soup w noodles was good . Needed to add soy and spice to season it up but was decent

Shanghainese street food gem in Midtown! Came for the savory pork mooncake -- flaky, juicy, fresh out of the oven, and only $4! Also grabbed their $1 pan-fried soup dumplings -- some of the best pan-fried soup dumplings I've had in the city. Everything felt super authentic, from the vegetarian duck to the rice cakes with shepherd's purse. Prices are great, portions generous. Perfect for a quick lunch or craving some comfort bites. Will definitely be back -- and no need to go all the way to Flushing!

Very crispy pork buns! A bit unique from other Shanghai pork buns I've tried. The dough isn't very thick but the rich broth is encased perfect. The sautéed crab is alright but a bit too bland. Service is nice and you can conveniently order from iPads at your table. The interior looks recently renovated, everything is brightly lit and pristine.

TLDR: Pan fried soup dumplings = BIG YUM. FOOD: I came here with four friends, and we shared a bunch of things, which is definitely the way to do it. Everything we got was very good. We ordered a variety of different soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, and a few veggie dishes. For the pan fried dumplings, we got pork and cheesesteak flavors, I know that sounds weird, but both were good! SERVICE: Really good. Prompt and super nice! AMBIANCE: Largely simple but overall nice. There are a few details, which I was surprised by, like chandeliers with a Tiffany blue color around them, quite elegant. TIP: I think the ideal number of people to come with to this restaurant is a total of four. Most of the dumpling dishes come in sets of four, so if everyone wants to be able to try stuff, 5 is an awkward number. OVERALL: Will definitely come back when I am craving pan fried dumplings!!

If you're on the hunt for pan-fried pork buns with an EXTRA THIN wrapper, I've found the winner--Shanghai Time serves up sheng jian bao with the thinnest wrapper I've ever had in NYC.  I visited Shanghai Time about two years ago, and their SJB is still at the very top of my favorites list no matter how many new shanghainese spots I've tried since. Like how could they pack so much juicy broth into a paper-thin bao dough, and still get the bottom crunchy? The location is super convenient - in the heart of Times Square and only 3 minutes away from Port Authority.  *Pan Fried Pork Soup Dumpling 生煎包 $9.95 *Dan Dan Noodle 擔擔麵 $9.95 *Steamed Vegetable Dumpling 翡翠素餃 $8.95 *Shredded Steak Truffle Fried Rice黑松露牛肉炒飯 $18.95 *Little Rabbit Milk Pudding 小白兔奶凍 $8.95 They ran out of crab meat sheng jian bao when I went, but I would definitely go back to try that one! While their sheng jian bao is absolutely S-tier, the rest of the food we tried felt pretty average in comparison. Dan dan noodle was aromatic and flavorful, yet the truffle fried rice could have a bit more of the truffle flavor. I do remember their shanghainese stir fried rice cake (薺菜肉絲炒年糕) was good though.

House special fried rice .. doesn't look very special. Taste great though

Love the place but recently portion sizes esp for the fried rice and noodle dishes have dropped drastically . Hopefully they see this and correct it

More like 3.5/5 but I think it was good for the area, but just not amazing for Shanghainese in general. Service was great though and the staff were super attentive! - garlic cucumber salad was a 4/5 - tasted very flavorful and was a good palette cleanser - chili wontons 4/5 - mixture had a lot of veggies in it and i like the flavoring but my friends thought it was too salty - shanghainese rice cake 2/5 - rice cakes were overcooked and way too soft - house special fried rice 4/5 - can't really go wrong with this dish and it had the typical essential shanghainese flavor - pan fried soup dumplings 3/5 - not very crispy nor soupy and the soup lacked flavor - shrimp rolls 3/5 - just not a heavy shrimp flavor and i wished their side sauce was tartar instead - custard buns 2/5 - buns were soft but the custard filling didn't taste like much

Was brought here by an instagram post that my friend saw and it looked so good on screen. We ended up being pretty disappointed with our experience... so don't always trust what you see on social media! We ordered the pan fried pork soup dumplings, the regular Shanghai pork soup dumplings, cold sesame noodles, and the Shanghainese rice cakes with pork. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing all our proteins were pork haha. Both soup dumplings we felt was a must when trying any new (new to us) Shanghai place. The regular ones I'd give a 4/5 for flavor but also because one arrived popped. The pan fried ones were very filling because the dough was thicker than we expected. It doesn't compare to the same dish from other places with super thin and crispy skin, which is personally my preference. So 2/5 stars for that. The cold noodles (2/5) - we ordered because it was 95 degrees out with high humidity and we just needed something cold and refreshing. It was cold is but not refreshing and the flavor just wasn't what we expected- it leaned towards the saltier side than peanut buttery. Some cucumbers on top would have made it better. By far, our favorite was the rice cakes with pork. We happily enjoyed all of it. The texture and chewiness of the rice cakes, combined with the very savory flavors were great! We also appreciated the couple pieces of vegetables that it came with. (4.5 out of 5 stars - for the flavor it was good but the portion size for this shared dish was smaller than when compared to other Shanghai places. The interior was kind of decorated. Service was good, it's more compared to a cafe than a restaurant. When you come in and are seated, you order food through the iPad and "send it to the kitchen". The food does take while to come. During your meal, they pretty much leave you alone. You can "call waitstaff" from the top of the iPad if you need something. After your meal, you ask for the check and they bring a receipt to you. Overall, I wouldn't come back for the food. It was okay at best.

I'm always in the area, catching a movie or two at AMC, so I was thrilled to find this excellent spot for Shanghainese food back in March! I've since been back multiple times, and their food never lets me down. There's a good amount of seating, the staff is friendly and helpful while thankfully not overtly attentive, and it's also open shockingly late if Google is to be believed. Crab meat pan fried soup dumplings - Their sheng jian bao is top notch. I get the crab version every time I'm here. They're so absurdly juicy and flavorful, with a perfectly crispy bottom. Be careful though, these are real squirters. On our first visit, my partner bit into one soon after they arrived at the table, and the soup burned his cheek. Pretty sure he's (mentally) scarred for life now. Proceed with patience and caution! Garlic oil boiled shredded eel over noodles - Gotta pay $2 extra for the dry noodles mixed with sauce, but it's worth it. The sauce is delicious and perfectly coats these noodles (which I've already waxed poetic about). A really savory dish, and one of my favorite things here. Beef stew noodle soup - A giant bowl filled with nice, chewy noodles and flavorful broth. Sauteed crab meat over noodles - Alas, this inexplicably includes shrimp, which I can't eat. But I tried my partner's, and the crab stew is very tasty, with the same bouncy, quality noodles. Shanghai style meatballs - The entree portion comes with three ginormous lion's head meatballs that are moist and super tender, with little crunchy bits of water chestnut mixed in, and a thick sauce with that signature five-spice flavor. It's one of the better iterations I've had. There's also some bok choy to lighten up the dish. Shredded beef with hot peppers udon - Not really that spicy, but it's a reliable, comforting dish. Shanghainese rice cakes with pork - The rice cakes are soft and chewy. I could've used a bit more sauce, but you can't go wrong with this dish. Dan dan noodles - Pretty good, but my undisputed champion is still Han Dynasty's version, so I probably wouldn't reorder these when there are so many other things on the menu. Sweet and sour flounder filet - My partner ordered this, and it's fine... exactly what you think it'd taste like. As with sweet and sour pork chops, this one's fried and not crunchy since it's smothered in sauce. Another one I'd skip in favor of their other menu items. If you pay with cash, you can also try their sweet rainbow rice balls bisque or red bean rice cakes with mixed fruit for free! The soup was hot and comforting, kinda like an egg drop dessert soup, and the different rice balls had strawberry, peanut, and black sesame filling. I prefer this over the red bean rice cakes with mixed fruit, which is actually one big sweet rice mound with red beans, golden raisins, and a syrupy sweet sauce. But either way, both are good, and it's so nice of them to offer it.

The interior of this place is lovely, with nice decor, bright lighting, pretty chandelier, and plenty of seating. I had a hard time deciding what to order, but finally went with the 5 Colors Soup Dumplings and Scallion Pancakes. The Soup Dumpling flavors consisted of Truffle Pork, Crabmeat with Pork, Shrimp, Pork and Chicken. My favorite was the Truffle, as the truffle taste shone through. I also enjoyed the Crabmeat with Pork. There was some soup inside, and the skin was a little on the thick side. The Scallion Pancakes were satisfyingly crispy and thin, but way too oily. I got to try my friend's Fried Pork Dumplings, and this was quite tasty. The Dumpling was wonderfully crunchy, filled with tender, juicy pork. Service was okay. Upon being seated, there was a paper menu, as well as an electronic one. I looked at the paper menu first, and some of the items were no longer available. So, we ordered on the electronic one and our food came out quickly. The prices were great, especially for the Midtown area. Even though I wasn't that impressed with my meal, I would give this place another chance to try the Rice Cakes and Pork Chop.

The hostess and our various waiters (they all seem to assist all diners) were all very friendly and welcoming. We love to try new things so we had to check out the Little Alley Pig Ear appetizer, and I also wanted to try the Shanghai Crispy Eel. For entrees the husband ordered the Eight Delicacies in Chili Sauce and I got the Soft Shell Crab with Rice Cake. Pro tip- their appetizers and entrees are hefty, with two apps and two entrees we were stuffed at the end. The food! The pigs ears were our favorite thing we tried- they well seasoned and so unique I've never had anything quite like it. We didn't read the menu carefully and were surprised it was a cold dish- I imagined the crispy was from being fried but it's just the texture of the cartilage! It's probably not for everyone but I really enjoyed the new experience and the flavor and spice were great. The crispy eels were also tasty, though with such a large portion split between just two people I found the sweetness of the sauce a bit much. I started dipping them in the chili oil from the ears and enjoyed that, but I'd still only get the eel again with more than 2 people to split it. For entrees the 8 delicacies was tasty, all the meat was nicely cooked and tender, and the sauce was pleasant. I wasn't super wowed by this dish compared to some of the more interesting things we tried but it was a solid well-cooked entree. The fried soft shell crab over the rice cakes was delicious and again a very unique experience. I found the sauce a tad sweet but I think I was still a little over the eel dish so I may have been extra sensitive. That being said, it was fun and delicious and I'd eat it again! I can't remember the cocktails we bought, I know they were good but the food definitely distracted us! Little Alley was great overall and I'd love to go back to try some dumplings; sadly we were just too full at the end of the meal!

I broke my rule of never going out on Mother's Day because service is usually subpar, food is too and it's just too busy but we took my mom to NyC for the day so had to eat lol. Food was quite good, though overpriced a bit. We had the soup dumplings, sweet and sour fish, beggar chicken (with a small show), ham and vegetable clay pot rice, and a veggie dish. It was all delish! I especially loved the rice and hope to replicate it at home. Osthmanthus dessert (warm) wasn't good, I probably should have gotten the cool one. Service left a lot to be desired, which may be due to it being so busy. Hard to get staff to ask questions about the order. For the prices, one would think service would be exceptional. The staff were busy and seemed annoyed at requests for water, tea, etc. I would try it again on a less busy weekend.
