Worst experience I got here 15 min before they closed and they said is was fine to order . Had me waiting over 1 hour for chicken. Just to find out they did it on purpose. They could have just let me know it was too late to be serve. After waiting a hour they gave me a refund because the fryer was not working. Ps what really funny is how shakeys pizza parlor only replies to good review and doesn't try to fit the issues.

I remember when most Pizza Hut dine-in restaurants would have a weekday buffet, and I would 'drag' my co-workers to it (when we wanted variety from our typical AYCE Chinese buffets). Those lunches are all gone now, so when I got the itch of nostalgia, this Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Carson was our destination for a Tuesday lunch. It was very satisfying. My wife and I invited our friend/neighbor to come with us and arrived around 11:20. There was still parking in the strip mall parking lot, but can see how those spots would fill up quickly. Upon entering, there is a line where you order and pay (The buffet runs from 11 AM to 2 PM daily, costing $14.99 for adults [$1.50 senior discount, plus $1 on weekends]). Got our customary water cups, which can be filled from a nice water container near the utensils (there is also a self-serve soda machine). A plate for pizza and a plate for salad is given to each diner, and the obligatory sign stating that a clean plate is needed for every trip was visible. The set-up isn't easy to get a new plate, since the only way to talk to a counter person is to fit into the same line that people are waiting to enter. I was pleasantly surprised when someone walked around giving out fresh plates as old ones were bussed. There were a choice of up to five different pizzas, and it tasted OK (reminded me of Chuck E Cheese pizza) with plenty of cheese and toppings. If you get lucky and get a fresh one, it would probably taste a bit better. But I was impressed with the amount of toppings. I also tried the spaghetti with sausage marinara (OK for a one-time try), and enjoyed the sweet corn, and really good mashed potatoes with gravy. The other main dish was chicken (both baked and fried, about as good as what you can get from a grocery deli, which is pretty decent, a skippable rice pilaf, and cocktail meatballs (which I know I should skip, but can't resist since they almost always taste good). Their famous Mojo potatoes weren't as good as I thought it would be. What I was really impressed was the salad bar. It had more choices with fresh(er) ingredients than either of the last two salad bars I remember (at Golden Corral and on various cruise ships). This is what I returned for seconds, and would be a good choice for non-pizza fans (though strangely, there is no salad bar only option on the menu).

Dined in. Missed the red onions in the salad bar area. Ordered a small pizza with chorizo, jalapeños, red onions and pepperoni. Also ordered the salad bar and a pint of Stella Artois. Food was delicious. Everything was clean. Service was great. Lots of parking.

Heart pizza

Amazing! Me and my girl friend went to get the pizza heart for Valentine's Day and it was sooo good. The salad bar was very clean and well stocked. So many dressings and toppings to choose from. The macaroni salad and Gelatin are a must. The beers were reasonable prices so that was nice. Also the bathrooms were impeccably clean. Elise and Nancy checked on us many times to make sure we were good. Definitely going back. Good job ladies.

China Buffet - Rice or Noodles

China Buffet

(546 reviews)

1st off... This is officially my 500th REVIEW!…read more There are so many random Chinese buffets all around the world, but this particular 1 stands out to me because it brings back so many memories of when my mom was still alive while fighting breast and bone cancer. It was 1 of the very last places we ate together as a family back in the early 2000s and I can't help but think about her every time I come to this place. Aside from all that sentimental biased-ness, this China Buffet legit has a great amount of quality and choices for a business that's been around longer than some of the newer spots around here and everywhere. The parking isn't extremely bad because it's huge and it's shared with other businesses. It can get very very understandably crowded during the lunch and weekend rushes. For less than $20, I love coming here during their cheaper lunch times. Fridays, weekends and holidays is when they charge OVER $20, but with more food choices, of course. ALL their food is pretty damn good. Even though they don't have room for a hibachi guy like other places, I dig how they do the hibachi menus in the kitchen and put out the grilled chicken, thin steaks and grilled fish near their excellent choices of sushi! Now... their restroom situation is such a toss up because for the men's, there's only 1 freakin' toilet and the rest are urinals! It absolutely sucks when you eat all that food and you legit gotta go (which is a lot of their customers) and you can't promptly go because there's always that 1 guy just lolligaging on his damn cell phone instead of just taking the Browns to the Super Bowl, dropping off the kids and going on right away for others to do the same! That's like my only gripe along with the regular toss up of if you're going to a nice server who actually has somewhat of a decent personality to mix with at least decent customer service. There ARE servers who are really nice, but it's hard to tell who really stands out positively. ALL IN ALL, I love this place. It isn't perfect, but it feels like home to me. Need to go Number 2 after all that great food still? Do what I do and digest all that greatness and play Harold & Kumar BATTLESHITS at the Best Buy next to this place! LOLOLOL!!! Stay blessed! Love and miss you always, mom!!

A male Asian employee behind the sushi counter dropped an entire tray of toasted garlic bread onto the floor. It was loud enough that everyone nearby turned to look. At that point, any reasonable person would expect the food to be thrown away. Instead, he picked every piece up off the floor and put it right back on the tray. It gets worse. Another employee (a woman wearing a pink North Face shirt) then took that same tray and placed the bread out on the buffet line for customers to eat. This is completely unsanitary and a serious violation of basic food safety standards. Food that has been on the floor is contaminated with bacteria, dirt, and who knows what else. Serving it to customers is not only disgusting, it's a health risk. Management and the owner need to review the cameras during this time and address this immediately. This level of negligence is unacceptable. We were shocked, disgusted, and will absolutely not be returning.

I noticed that the food has changed since the last time I visited. I used to like the kimchi because it would be a nice side dish to cool down. Now I am not a professional when it comes to kimchi, but the ones they make now just taste bitter. Also, the coconut shrimp used to be crispy before, but now it tastes so soft. The ambiance is pleasant when not crowded, sometimes it would be filled with people from line to line because of special days. But overall, you get a good seating place to make up for the food. I don't know what happened to it, but the buffet used to have a fried ball with crab meat and teriyaki sauce. I wonder if they still have that item or if I just came at the wrong time. But yeah, the meal was okay. Not too exciting or disappointing. Hoping we get more exciting options in the buffet soon!

So, it was an affordable experience when kids also ate free with the paying adult. Flash forward to 2026 and I drove by and it looked dark and closed, but the parking lot had cars, so I went to check it out. Note to the restaurant, invest in some sort of "open" neon sign or any sign of any noticeable size or design, electronic or not. The place looks comfortable and no frills which could deter walk in first time customers based on aesthetic decor and perceived cleanliness. It is fine. No negative issues. So, the prices range from $16 for weekday lunch to $22 for weekday dinner and $22 for weekend all day whether lunch or dinner when they bring out the higher tier food items like the seafood crab legs. Overall a great deal. Good diversity. The turnover seems adequate where food doesn't seem to sit there as typical Steam Tray Cuisine Chinese Food and dry out and get old and dehydrated. The food doesn't seem to taste fresh, as it's supposed to be... whether crispy fried, warm or hot, moist, tender, cool/cold, soft or whatever it's supposed to be. The service is efficient. Parking is easy. They do accept credit cards as well as cash. The clientele is diverse, Asians and non-Asians alike, black, brown (Hispanic), and white (Caucasian), young and old as well as families with children, couples or seniors. It's working class no-frills. It's not a place you take a first date to dress to impress of course. It's a very safe and family friendly environment. In the world of neighboring Chinese AYCE Buffets, I used to rank "China Buffet" in Torrance as the top, then when "Ichiban" in Gardena opened it earned dethroning "China Buffet" (who no longer offered Roast Duck and Snow Crab Legs), but the old standard of "#1 Buffet" in Lawndale just earned my rank and recommendation as the best Chinese AYCE Buffet based upon price, selection, ease of seating and of course the most important factor of food quality. The dinner and lunch price is justifiable based on a few key dishes alone. If you went to an "a la carte" restaurant, even Chinese "family style" entrees to share, it would be hard to affordably replicate what #1 Buffet offers in a diverse range of dishes to indulge in. The self-service style makes it fun, convenient and easy as a dining experience. Soft drinks are an added charge and have free refills. You might same money and stomach space (to eat more) and health (sugars!) by opting for the free ice water as a recommendation on how to navigate eating at a buffet and "get your money's worth" - - avoid the sugars, carbs (breads, rice, noodles and fried/battered dishes) and the cheaper foods like french fries, pizza, etc) and go for the proteins like seafood, beef, chicken and pork)... of course get your salad, soup and veggies as a balance. I took a lit of photos for context and references. However... if in doubt, you can visit and first "ask politely" if you can walk the buffet steamed tray area to see what's available before committing. Just don't be uncouth and try to "sample" any of the foods on your tour as a yet to be committed paying seated patron. The price is affordable and there is a service despite the perception of DIY, so be sure to leave a tip. These people work harder than a bartender serving a simple drink, a coffee barista, a food delivery provider and many others, and are generally low wage earners who would appreciate a gratuity and are earning it. Be kind, be thoughtful, be generous, be appreciative and be gracious.
