I work right across the street from this place and had not yet tried it so I decided today's that day. I went early enough (11:15ish) prior to the lunch crowd and was the 2nd customer in the restaurant. I was immediately greeted by a server whom quickly took my order and brought chips and salsa to my table. I ended up ordering the two hard shell taco combo with rice and beans and a fountain soda. The food was ok (not the worst); however, very pricey: 16.99 for the taco plate and 4.99 for my fountain drink! With tax and before tip it came to 24 bucks! I definitely won't be eating here again. Service was great and the servers were friendly enough and very efficient but overall not worth the price. Side note: this is a great place for large parties. Flores Cafe sits in a nondescript shopping center at the corner of Carson Street (x) S Wilmington Ave. A prominent tenant of "Car-Wil Plaza" is Starbucks. An additional landmark--"Malamalama Ole Lalolagi" Church, is across the street. Mexico is a large country. As such there are many regional cooking styles. Barriers to entry are relatively low; so, if someone feels that they have good recipes, they can open their own business. The plus side is that in Southern California, we have access to a variety of "Mexican" food. I have had many good meals in small family restaurants. But a lot of small restaurateurs don't have a lot of capital; as such, decor is an afterthought. While not polished, the owners of Flores Cafe have put a lot of effort into decoration. The interior walls are covered with portraits of entertainment personalities, with a Día de los Muertos overlay. It's probably worth at least one visit to go and see. Service at some smaller restaurants is sometimes wanting. The waiter and waitress were outfitted professionally in black jeans and black dress shirts. The table service offered was also good. On this occasion, I ordered the carne asada burrito; rice, with no beans ($12.99); covered in the red sauce ($3.99). With a Pepsi ($5.99) and tax ($2.40), my ticket was $25.37 before gratuity. The texture of the food on the plate was a bit rustic; but I think this is attributable to cooking style. Overall, the taste was good; the overall size of the burrito, and its contents, was reasonable in the current environment. I found their instagram page and the food looked amazing, so we decided to try them out for lunch. They're located in a small strip mall; the kind of place people might drive on by, but definitely stop in for some good food! We went New Year's Day, making sure we paid attention to their special hours. Walking in, it looks like a club, not a restaurant. I can only imagine how lit this place is at night and on weekends. The walls are painted black with neon murals painted all over. It was fairly empty and they had bachata loudly playing on one tv and a game on another. It's definitely screams a club atmosphere, but with a restaurant inside. Yeni greeted us and came over and took our order. I ordered a small carnitas taco, since carnitas are my favorite. The meat was tender and flavorful. Exactly what I expected it to be. We also ordered the combination fajitas and the 3 mole enchiladas plate. Everything was so delicious! The rice and beans really caught our attention. It's not always that I enjoy the rice and beans, but theirs was really good! Everything was seasoned well and piping hot when it came out. Very disappointing experience. One male server took our order and then never checked on us again. When I approached him to ask for something, he responded rudely and said, "I'm not your server." However, he was the person who initially took our order. We also ordered a bucket through another young lady, but it never arrived. On top of that, the restaurant advertises a "happy hour," yet we did not receive any happy hour pricing, which felt misleading. I noticed several tables sitting with empty beer glasses, and no one was checking on them. That seems like a missed opportunity for both customer service and additional sales. Better attention from the staff would make a big difference. Overall, the service was poor, communication was lacking, and the experience was not worth the money. Shockingly expensive for what you get. A 2 taco plate with rice and beans is $18 before tax. I had a dinner here, two people each got a plate, along with 1 shareable item and 2 margaritas. Came for lunch. Been a year since I was last here and obviously it's undergone alot of changes. Has more of a black light party vibe now versus the old school styled Cafe. Lots of modern / Hispanic pop culture art on the walls everywhere. Service was great servers were attentive and quick to take order and check back in to see if you needed anything. While running errands, I started to get hungry and had a craving for asada fries. Yum! I decided to stop by Flores Cafe, a small Mexican restaurant in Carson with plenty of free parking, a definite plus for me. I love the decor and the way it's neon in this restaurant walls and chairs. If you wear white you will glow. The drinks are good The service from the servers can be a bit more better. I feel that our drinks and food plates took a while to come out. We were there yesterday for the Mexico game. We were told happy hour was from 6-9 and we ordered buckets of beer before 9 pm. When our bill came they charged us $50 for each bucket!!! When I was clearly told that happy hour buckets were usually $35!!!! We told the waitress and she said we HAVE TO SAY HAPPY HOUR when we order!!???? That was the stupidest reasoning I have EVER heard!! Also, the Aguachiles I ordered were warm. The shrimp are usually cold but they were warm and gross!!! They steal purses at this place. I was there Saturday May 9, 2026 until closing time. My purse disappeared from the table. I noticed they have cameras so I went ahead and ask if I could see the footage of that night. Supervisor said they weren't allowed to access the camera to contact the owner by email. Which I did asap!! Today is 5/18 and still no response from the owner. I've been calling back and they are getting rude the way they talk back to me. I ordered the #17 SHRIMP enchiladas combo plate to go. Although the flavors were good the portions were ridiculously small for the price. They used salad size shrimps and chopped it up to tiny pieces mixed it with vegetables for the enchiladas. I could not taste any shrimp only vegetables. The sides rice and beans portion did not even fill half of the container slots and the chips they gave us 6 chips SMH. Darn, I was hungry that I ate my food first instead of taking a pic of it! lol I ordered the shrimp in red sauce. It came with a side of rice and beans. It was delicious! Spanish rice was delectable & fresh. Refried beans were perfectly soft and topped with melted Mexican cheese. The cooked shrimp was in the red sauce. The red sauce was seasoned perfectly! Not too much and not too little which flavored the cooked shrimp well. We ordered it to go so our plate came with corn tortilla and chips with salsa. This was my first time to this cafe so upon entrance your eyes are distracted by the art that covers that restaurant- and lit by black light (see pictures). The art covers every wall and ceiling. Music was nice and poppen, not too loud. I was so distracted by the art that it took me a minute to review the menu that was given to us upon entrance. We went on Monday evening and it wasn't that busy so we were greeted upon entrance, given a menu and ordered. Wait time for our order wasn't long at all and once I did place the order, the server gave us water while we waited. The only thing about this place is there isn't any windows but there is plenty of ceiling fans in the dining room. Note, the server who greeted us and took our order did speak English. He spoke both English and Spanish. I promise next time I go back I'll take a pic of the food. Lol I'm giving this place a 5 star rating because the food was amazing. I came on a weekday afternoon and the place was empty. Unfortunately the quality of the food and the portions have changed in the last six months. I'm the type of person who loves to support local business and I'm also willing to pay the price but when it starts to affect the quality and you start skimping on the portions, this is where I have an issue. The last time I came, I ordered a shrimp burrito and there were only three shrimp in it and today my tacos were very small but the price has increased. As food came out I completely forgot to take pictures...I've been craving governador tacos (shrimp and cheese) these tacos hit the spot... different than what I've had, these were made with grilled veggie, a good addition. I ordered the combo bcs a taco by itself cost $6.99 so I opted for combo with 3 governador tacos, beans and rice $20.99 ... it was delicious but the tacos are on a small tortilla, so I'm absolutely glad I got the combo. My bf had the chicken flautas (flour tortilla) first time, it wasn't what he expected, the crisp, like with a corn tortilla, he said they were too soft. My gf had a Ceviche tostada (jaiva) she said it was ok; For the price it needed to have more jaiva it had more veggies and honestly the jaiva needed to be a lil more shredded, it was chunky like the pieces were as big as the cucumber pieces.
