The Huevos con machaca still do not disappoint , It would be nice if you showed your prices on the wall or had a menu with prices! prices seem to keep going up!

Was in the area for work and luckily stumbled upon this place. Tried the pambazo which was so good. Their other food looks good too. I live far away from this place but if I lived closed by I would be a regular. They have so many different foods to choose from. They have Bionicos as well and healthy juices. All their food is good you can tell. This is a whole in the wall spot that you won't see it if you are driving by because the parking is so small but they have so much to offer. Authentic food.

How do you squeeze canned goods, produce, meat counter and a restaurant in a store the size of a large living room? Ask La Altena, that's exactly what they did. La Altena, was recommended to me for their tamales. When we got there and saw Birria and Barbacoa on their extensive menu, Ellen C. and I knew we just had to try. We ordered: 2 Lengua tacos (made with handmade tortillas) 1 Birria 1 Barbacoa 18 Tamales ( to go) All for 40 something dollars (they take credit cards) The lengua tacos were made, well ... just the way I like them. First, there just isn't anything like a good handmade tortilla - these were fresh off the grill. Handmade & homemade thick flour tortillas filled with juicy tender lengua and all the toppings. By the time we finished the tacos we couldn't wait for the Birria and Barbacoa. Both came a large bowl filled with dark red soup just brimming with flavor. While both bowls looked almost exactly the same, they were not. Not just because of the different meats but the flavors of the soup were distinctly different. There were plenty of good size chunks of meat and plenty of soup but that was all. There wasn't much of anything else in the bowl. Don't get me wrong it was filling and along with the tacos, we were stuff. However, I thought it would have been good to at least have a bit of vegies, maybe onions or hominy or something. That evening we had pork, cheese and corn tamales for dinner. The cheese tamale was my favorite, lots of cheese and chilies smothered with soft but not overcooked masa. Service at La Altena was a blast. The same lady worked the food counter, the meat counter and the cash register. She was friendly and funny. She made sure a couple of Asians were well taken care of, explained things to us and made sure we had everything we needed. Next time? YES!!! but I gotta take another look at the menu again, by the time I was finished eating I was in a food coma and was in no shape the remember what was on the menu.

The vibe was really off. The place is nice and clean and appealing but there was no music playing. They had on naked and afraid and some news on their TVs. We were the only people there so the place was so quiet and boring. The lady was very polite, but it just wasn't a "fun environment". The food came out at all different times which was weird because we were the only ones there. I'm always trying to find somewhere close to go hang out and invite friends to have drinks and eat but it was just so off I wouldn't want to go back with friends. Food- I had the fish taco which was good, the calamari was very chewy and not that good, and the enchiladas were decent Service - Service was good (flys were coming in tho so I think they should keep the door closed) Ambiance- lacking. They need some fun music and give me a reason to order some beer and hangout more. I don't really see this as anything other than a takeout place unless they extend their hours and improve the vibe.

We asked if they had any plant-based or vegan options. They only sold burgers however the lady that helped us was very sweet, polite, and kind. She told what they had and what we could order inside instead. We walked in and the gentleman named Oscar G. cashed us out. He was also very friendly! Very professional and knowledgeable about the menu and non-dairy items. Provided us with what we needed right away, the container for the salsa and brought out fresh ones for me. Very nice guy. The food came out right away. The portions were big in my opinion. The prices were decent, the portion was great, and best of all the service was good. Their self-serve condiments was a PLUS! I've been to a lot of taco spots and these were by far the freshest and crispiest cucumbers, fresh cold salsa, onions and cilantro was also fresh. The food was good and filled us up. It was simple but fulfilling. Will definitely be back and highly recommend it. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seats as well.

I ordered the asada, carnitas, al pastor, tripas, cabeza, and lengua. The asada was tender with a nice grilled flavor, but my favorites were definitely the tripas and cabeza. Both were a little greasy, but in a good way--they had a lot of flavor and were probably the standouts of the meal for me. One thing I liked was the condiment bar. You can load up your tacos with as much onion and cilantro as you want, plus they have radishes and lime wedges available. They also offer two salsas, a red and a green. Both tasted good and had solid flavor, although I was hoping for a little more heat. Overall, it's a solid taco spot, especially on Taco Tuesday. Good variety of meats, reasonable prices, and plenty of toppings to customize your tacos. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area and craving some tacos.

Madre Enchiladas: If you can't choose, pick them all! On a platter as wide as a pizza with a low rim, the mole sauces are practically overflowing. It's like an artist's palette board with four earthy mole colors. Mole Rojo, is an auburn blend of chilies, nuts, chocolate, and spices. The enchilada's corn tortilla is wrapped around my favorite filling, tender and juicy carnitas. My favorite mole is the Mole Negro, black as the nighttime sky with a deep smoky and sweet flavors. The dry chilies, sesame seeds, nuts, Oaxacan chocolate, and herbs provide a velvety sauce for the chicken picadillo. The darkly hued Mole Coloraditos has a little bit of a spicy kick from its toasted chilies, nuts, sesame seeds, chocolate, tomatoes, and spices. It's hard not to use the shredded beef enchilada to swab the plate clean. I would seriously lick the plate clean if I was at home. OK, the last one isn't a mole. The Salsa Verde is tangy from its tomatillos, green chilies, onions and garlic. The crumbly chorizo and cheese enchilada is comforting.
