This location is reliable and their food has been consistently good for me. Go to's: Shack burger (double patties, add onions and pickles), shroom burger (if you're a cheese lover, you will love this), cheese fries (so good even if you're not crazy about cheese like me). If it's not clear by now, shake shack's very cheese-centric. Their burgers are rich and greasy, and the first flavor you taste will not likely be beef, but the cheese. Why I personally like their burgers is because of their potato bun. It's soft and buttery, not doughy, great meat/bun ratio, and holds the thin charred patties, toppings, and juices in. Note that if you like onions and/or pickles, they're not default toppings, just ask for them. I don't normally like cheese fries, but I make it a point to always order them here. Their cheese blend is delicious (!) with their super crispy fries (their fries are better than in-n-out no contest). As much as people love to hate on chains/conglomerates on yelp, it's Danny Meyer and shake shack's growth is a great story. Additionally, I attribute some of the new vitality of CWE to this location opening in the past year. It's been a good thing for St. Louis. Even though it's sorta fast food, a complete meal here isn't cheap and will run you over $10-15 for burger, fries, drink. Is their food overpriced? In nyc, no. Here in stl, heck yes. I usually make a Shake Shack one of our lunch stops whenever we're traveling through a city that actually has one. While my son is happy with a plain Cheeseburger, hubby and I prefer the Shack Burger because of the Shack Sauce and the bacon! We got one plain fry and one loaded with cheese and more bacon. Mind you, the loaded fries come disassembled when you order to-go, which I believe is all they're offering at t he moment. I ordered ahead online and my order was ready a few minutes after I arrived. I have to say that the people here aren't particularly friendly...there was an unmanned table in front of the door when I arrived. I noticed other customers inside ordering at the counter. But as soon as I stepped in I had a crew member almost on top of me (breaking the 6 foot bubble we're supposed to keep) and telling me that if I'm picking up an order I have to wait outside. His tone of voice made me feel like I was being barked at. The woman you eventually brought my order out couldn't have been bothered to smile/make eye contact or show that she cared in any way. I have just tasted something that was dropped down from heaven. Seriously the most delicious dessert my taste buds have ever encountered. I ordered the Central West End frozen custard I believe it was made with butter scotch and I have no idea what else. I split that with my husband so it was the perfect amount. I saw other people eating hamburgers and fries and large shakes. I would've liked to have tried a burger, but we had just finished dining at another establishment. One thing that was difficult about this place was the parking. We will go here again when we are in the CWE. We live in Wildwood and made the trek specifically for dessert. Had had HAD to update my review. First of all, wonderful customer service, hi Jake, sent me $10 for me to try more goodies. Let my tell you, this place has improved greatly. There is much more seating when they expanded outdoors, much shorter wait times, and the burgers even taste much better. The buns are no longer soaking in grease, and the patties are way more flavorful. Smoke Shake: Single or double, this is my go too. The smokiness of the bacon goes perfectly with the juicy patty. The creaminess of the American cheese helps elevate the burger. Spicy and tangy red papers added in create an extra dimension of flavor so you don't get just meat. My FAVORITE YOU NEED THIS GIRL GO TO THE GYM LATER BOO. Pie oh My Concrete: Not only do they donate to a good cause but they also taste great! I have been to Shake Shack in LA and NYC. Also, generally a big fan of Danny Meyer and his vision of hospitality. I was thrilled when I heard he would be putting a Shake Shack in Saint Louis. We waited outside in the cold, which we were up for, having passed by multiple times before we were able to stop by and saw the line wrap around the block. Overall, the food was good, the staff was friendly and efficient. Love the integration of other local businesses and trademarks. Love the design and the layout of the space. Love the location in the west end. The one thing I was disappointed in was the overall cleanliness of the dining area. Having a couple extra hands to clean tables, sweep the floor, and keeping the condiment table organized would've gone a long way. My spouse and I thought we did everything right. We waited to visit Shake Shack four months after it opened. We came on a weekday at an earlier time (5:00pm). But apparently, it doesn't matter. Lines are long and the wait for the food, and a table, can be lengthy, so getting a to go order is a good idea. The tables are super neat; made from reclaimed bowing lanes, the logo stamped onto them. It's loud. It's crowded. It's cool. Try the Cheese Fries. At this point, you don't have to stand in a long line or find an empty seat, during their non-peak hours. I went to the one in Scottsdale, Arizona six months back (reviewed it), so I had to see what the first St. Louis-area location had in store. You see, Shake Shack is not one of those chains where "once you go to one, you've been to them all...". They keep menu items at the local level, and with the founder Danny Meyer being from St. Louis this was an absolute fit. I had the Mound City Double Burger, which had provel cheese, bacon and I believe, barbecue sauce. That thing melted in my mouth all the way! Their fries were great, like last time. I should have upgraded to cheese fries, or to their limited-edition specialty cheese fries which had more goodies on it. I didn't have a shake this time around since I wasn't that hungry, but I know in the future I'll get around to it (Gooey Butter Concrete, that is!). Like LeBron returning to Cleveland, it felt like a big deal when STL native Danny Meyer finally brought his famous Shake Shack chain to his hometown. Perhaps the most anticipated opening since Mike Johnson's Hi-Pointe Drive-In (in our household, at least), this Shake Shack location does not disappoint. To preface, I've had SS a few times traveling, mostly the LA location. It's reputation (looking at you, Aziz Ansari) and accolades are well deserved. This location differentiates itself by incorporating local flavors into its menu: Mound Burger (double with provel cheese), a Gooey Butter Cake concrete and even Fitz' Root Beer. My SS go-to is a double Shake Burger with cheese fries. The burger is terrific: juicy, well seasoned and soft bun make it super easy to savor the flavor on each delectable bite. The fries are strong: krinkle kuts light and gently salted, but man o man is that cheese sauce on top amazing! If they sold it in stores, I'm certain it would have a strong clientele (hint, hint). Now, I do have to mention the prices are a touch high for the root food here (burgers & fries), so be ready to spend. It's the main reason this isn't a 5-star review, but the quality is sublime and that's not even mentioning the shakes, chicken offerings or spirits available in-house (Legit with a capital "L", friends). Shake Shack, Shack Hype. Not since Nami Ramen opened a few years ago did a fast casual concept inspire so much hype and such aggravatingly long lines from eager epicures. Is it any good? Yes, shake shack is good. But at the same time I don't think you should wait in line or brave the biting winter air for it. Shake Shack more than any other burger joint understands Americans' shallow psychology and consumerist mindset. As such, their burgers are absolutely the most photogenic and aesthetically perfect fast food I have ever seen. Consider whopper or big mac commercials and the disparity between a crisp, fresh looking ad burger and the sad reality of a mashed together industrial sandwich assembled by indifferent minimum wage workers. The burgers at Shack Shack, in contrast, are gorgeous- as if formed perfectly from the head of Zeus himself. Their potato flour buns are always floofy and plump. The burger patties are smashed and flattened and cooked to a perfect crisp outside and a reasonably safe pink inside. More amazing than the premium visage of bread and meat is their lettuce and tomato, which remains crisp and vibrant on the burger even after a 5 minute car ride home. I chalk it up to Shake Shack using a super high end lettuce. Not everyone likes crinkle cut fries, but the ones they serve here are pretty good. They are, however, generically fried in soybean oil and seasoned with plain salt. Perhaps they should fry them in duck fat and dust it with truffle powder to fit in with their expensive central west end neighbors. I like Shake Shack and would go there again. But eating here is not a life altering experience or something you need to wait a long line for. Protip: Order using their app and skip the line. Another protip: Their allergy menu lists shellfish as a possible allergen for the majority of their items due to Shack Sauce™ being manufactured in a facility that processes shellfish. Let's do the bad first: There is very little structure to the line/ordering/getting food process. You wait in a make shift line and then look for any open space to stand to await your buzzer to go off. Then once your buzzer goes off, you pray that you can find a seat to eat your food. The tricky part is that you can save seats for people so it's a bit of cluster....you know the rest. Luckily we eventually found some seats. Now on to the good - The Food! The ShakBurger was delicious. Thin patties that were perfect seasoned to taste. I had heard that a single doesn't fill you up, so I went with a double. In addition I added the crinkle fries and a ShakeMeister Ale (on draught). If it hadn't been 10 degrees outside I would have got a shake, but I'll save that for my next trip. Yes, Shake Shack can serve up a great burger. However, I will wait until the new shine wears off before my next trip. I have been waiting to experience this new CWE hot commodity for a week now and the perfect opportunity to skip the 45-minute line presented itself at 3PM on a Wednesday (we only had to wait 10 minutes to order!) The restaurant itself was clean and had an interesting decor scheme. The staff were efficient and what one would expect at a typical fast food restaurant. The food, while decent for diner food, is FAR too overpriced for decent diner food. I was extremely excited to try the vegetarian option: the fried, cheese-stuffed portabello Schroom' Burger. Unfortunately it was hard to taste the small mushroom with all the cheese and fried breadcrumbs, so the mushroom sandwich turned more into a mozzarella stick sandwich. It was also a little too small for what one would expect to get for $7. The crinkle cut fries were crispy. I wasn't a huge fan, but my friend, who loves crinkle cut fries, thought they were excellent. The 'pie oh my' pecan concrete was far too small for what one would expect to get for $5. Good thing we had a good wait for our food to be ready since it took us about 4 attempts to find a seat at a shared table. Sandwich was good with melty cheese. I was so incredibly excited when I heard Shake Shack was coming to St. Louis. This was always a staple when I visited New York City and I didn't realized the founder had his roots right here in my city. I feel like they kept pretty tight lipped about the construction because all of a sudden it was already here! I waited in line the first day for an hour to have an early taste of glory. They kept us entertained in line with Bissinger's chocolates, strawberry mint lemonade, and custard. I ordered a single cheeseburger, the mound city double (special St. Louis burger), cheese fries, a Christmas cookie shake, and the local Pie O'My pecan pie concrete. The prices are more upscale than most burger joints at $30 for two people but when I tasted my meal it was well worth it! I can't wait to come back (and not wait an hour next time). read more
