Dining at Shake Shack for the third time and I have to say the service provided by the staff is always excellent. They go above and beyond to make the experience welcoming. I am gluten sensitive and after ordering a burger with gluten free buns they made sure to follow safety protocol in order to keep my food from cross contamination and brought to my table on a separate tray. The restaurant is clean and the friendly staff make sure you are treated well and are comfortable throughout your dining experience. Highly recommend this location. I don't know how people raved about this place when it's expensive and not even that good in general. The burger was smaller than the advertisement they put out. Though, I remembered their burger being bigger months ago. Unsure why it's so small this time while being expensive. Or it's got to do with where the location is, perhaps. Not only that, their buns are none existence. Flat and doesn't taste much with the burger. Also, too salty. They added too much salt in the meat. Their shakes isn't that great. I tried their limited oreo, it's not even good and just taste like everything is milk, milk, milk. I know that's how shake is, but it's just purely milk, bits of oreo. Nothing special. Food was good, I'll give them that. The Oreo shake was great and the beer was ice cold and refreshing. The service on the other hand, Geezus. The restaurant was empty so there should have been no reason to mess up our order. Cashier took our order and repeated it correctly. Order came wrong (fries) and I had to get up to get my beer after 5 minutes of receiving my meal. After a few eye rolls from the female, I received it. The restaurant itself was a mess. All the chairs were displaced, all the table were dirty and trash all over the floor. If the restaurant is empty, there should be plenty of time for an employee to tidy it up. Here today for lunch at the Shake shack in Downey. It's probably been here maybe open six months to a year. The restaurant is clean except for some of the tables. The girl that brought out the food, her name is Ari and she is very friendly, very personable. You've got the right person to greet people. As for the food, we had the shake shack burger nothing added to it other than what it comes with, and it was plenty. Compliments to the chef the burger stand out on their own.. They are one of the tastiest burgers I've eaten in a long time. They were so so flavorful. We also ordered just regular crinkle fries. As for the sauce, the one that is in the burger, I guess they call it the shake sauce, was a perfect compliment to all the food. We will definitely be back again when we're in this side of town. I always give a place a couple of tries before leaving a negative review--everyone has an off day, especially when they're just opening. But at this point, they've had more than enough time to get things right, and unfortunately, they're still missing the mark. I placed an online order and arrived just six minutes later (I live nearby). The estimated wait time was 7-12 minutes, but the food was already ready, which made me wonder if I was given someone else's old order. The burgers and fries were lukewarm at best, and the fried pickles were cold with raw, gummy batter. The burgers were just okay--definitely not memorable--and the portions are surprisingly small for the price. I don't mind paying top dollar for high-quality food, but this wasn't it. Honestly, school cafeteria food is better. The interior of the place is nice, I'll give them that. But for a place called "Shake Shack," the shakes were a huge letdown too. Do not go here. I spent 73$ here. First time ever going. I order 2 shack burgers and the portobello mushroom burger and chicken bites. Fries. Drinks. No lettuce and tomato on the mushroom burger. As a fan of Shake Shack, I was really looking forward to this location opening. My family and I stopped by this past weekend. Beer was on the menu on the kiosk but apparently, there was no beer available. I get it. It's a new location. However, if beer is not an option, then I will stick with In N Out. Came here because in and out line was super long. I should've just waited in the in and out line. Paid over 11 dollars don't shake shack burger . Very disappointed the party was extremely flat and flavorless. For the price was expecting more meat. I've been to other locations and remember the patties being way thicker. This was basically a veggie burger with huge pieces of lettuce tomato I couldn't even taste the meat. There was almost no sauce so I had to add mayo and ketchup when I got home. I No Longer Recommend the Shake Shack in Downey... One unprofessional and prejudiced employee is all it takes to ruin one's experience and a store's reputation. I entered the Downey store at about noon on Tuesday July 22, 2025. I stood looking at the menu on the wall for a few minutes. I decided rather quickly...But despite the store being close to empty-when I entered only a total of 3 people at 2 tables were lunching. I waited to be served at the empty and abandoned counter for some 5 to 8 minutes. The manager finally walked by and said, "We'll be with you in a second." It was almost 3 or 4 more minutes before anyone showed up behind the counter. It occurred to me that they thought I was homeless or something and were hoping I'd leave if they ignored me long enough, A young female employee finally walked up to the register from the back kitchen area and I noted she did so most unenthusiastically. Oddly, she didn't say a word to me, she just looked up at me as though she was thinking, "Yes? What are you doing here? What is it?" That is certainly what I read in her demeanor and countenance and how I felt in any event. The irony is that I match her general physical description as I'm also short and dark (although I'm a male.) I bought $30 worth of food to go and I handed her a $100 bill. As expected, she marked it with a pen to ensure its authenticity. I wasn't upset-my wife is a mid-level executive for a major financial institution and I used to work in criminal prosecution, for the District Attorney's Office-so I know full well the proliferation of counterfeit bank notes going around and the need for companies to prevent losses. After marking it, she suddenly and silently handed it back to me and quickly walked away, leaving me standing there like I'm some kind of undesirable riffraff or some other something...She reappeared with the manager who is a light-skinned female. I looked at the young employee and I said in a calm and casual voice, "What's wrong...It's not counterfeit..." The young employee, her obvious disdain for me palpable, neither looked at me nor answered my statement, as if I did not rate her attention. My instinct was to walk out right there, for I'm Very wary of Any person who carries such a sulking and cold disposition being anywhere near me-let alone near my food. You know, bad vibes and all. The manager nodded her approval of the note so the young employee silently took the bill, counted the change and handed it back to me as though I were the Invisible Man, she didn't look at me and she didn't say one word to me. Not a single word. What is one to conclude from such random and "unearned" rotten treatment? For the next 10 or 15 minutes I stood off near the middle of the dining area and watched this same young employee warmly greet every single individual and party who walked in and approached her at the counter with a loud, "Welcome in!" and "Hi, welcome!" and "Welcome, what can I get you?" I don't know what I did but I was greeted with an unhappy muted frown. As my food was ready, a different and very helpful and pleasant female employee brought out my bag and I asked to speak "To whoever is in charge." The same female manager came out. It didn't go so well. I concluded her reaction to my experience to be condescending and trivial: The first thing I said was, "This isn't about the inspection of the $100 bill, I don't care about that. It's about that employee at the counter. I just spent $30 here. She didn't say a single word to me when she walked up to take my order, she didn't say anything to me when I handed her my money, she ignored me when I asked her about checking the bill I remitted to her, and she didn't once say 'thanks,' not when I paid my bill and not when she handed me my change." Just as I expected, the manager lacked customer care skills: The very first thing she said in reply to me was, "Oh, we always check the high dollar bills so you..." I interjected, "Your reply shows me you're not listening to me. The very first thing I told you just now is that I don't care about the counterfeit inspection. I'm addressing your employee's rudeness, inhospitality and unprofessional conduct. I mean what is it, do you guys think I'm some kind of homeless guy coming in here?" "Oh no, we don't discriminate..." "Yes you do, you guys just did it to me now. Everyone else got a 'welcome in' and I got cold ugly looks and silence." She did interject a "Sorry, I'll talk to her about it." What a drag...I just wish employees like the aforementioned would not visit upon me whatever trouble is within them. I work as an executive assistant to retired MLB and NFL players, I work in elite-level Baseball, I'm a 2-branch US veteran, a top-20 university grad and I often wear Burberry apparel--but even those modest achievements/traits do not immunize me against appearance-based prejudice and discrimination. read more

Trust when I say, I wanted to love this place, I really had high hopes but unfortunately was let down. First, probably what most have mentioned- their portions are small. I am not saying it has to be a gigantic burger but it felt like I was eating a kids meal. I had the Veggie Shack burger and even though it was ok, nothing bad with it, I can't say that it wowed me or even left the slightest impression. The cheese fries tasted pretty bland to me also. I'm also not a huge fan of crinkle fries so that was a thumbs down when I saw that on the menu. My partner had a single burger and he also wasn't impressed. Given that we have a few decent burger places here in Downey, I am confident in saying that Shake Shack would probably be my last option. For the prices here, you get much better burgers at The Habit or In-N-Out up the street, or even making the trek to Nexx. The girl worker working the drive thru taking orders at 6pm on Sunday July 27 at this location. Was rude, lacked knowledge, customer service and basic courtesy. Mind you this my first time at this location. I asked for a moment so my sisters and i could review the menu. That must have bothered her because it set the tone for the remainder of the interaction. I proceeded to order 2 number ones (which is a double shack) I asked what type of diet drinks do they have, her rude response was "Diet Coke" again as if i bother her to answer that question. She then sighed and asked if they're gonna be doubles or singles. I feel like that is as the last straw for me, i asked to cancel my order and proceed to reverse out of the drive thru.
