I've had this place bookmarked to try out. Had a Friday afternoon off and decided to take a drive out to Cleveland to try it out. Not sure what I expected but be aware that Shake Shack is a drive up place. No indoor seating. Established in 1959, this pre-dates Sonic burger drive-in. The menu is handwritten on poster boards and the server comes to your window to take your order. BF and I each ordered a double-cheeseburger. I also ordered the onion rings and the BF ordered the spicy curly fries. The burger was delish. Fresh formed patties and so hot and cooked perfectly. I very much enjoyed the burger. The onion rings were also very good though the curly fries were nothing special. I also ordered a shake. Well, it's called the Shake Shack, right? I ordered a pistachio shake. Can't say I was impressed. It just tasted like milk. Not much pistachio to it at all. I was bummed by that. Would I go back? Yup, for the burgers. I might give another shake a shot but will be very wary. read more

Busy, busy, busy due to many restaurants being closed... but rightfully so. Burgers were delicious (as always) and once we were able to order they came out fast! It did take a while for one of the carhops to make it over to us but there must have been 30-40 cars in the parking lot... and it was raining! Overall, great experience. If the parking lot is full, pull in with a little patience and a big appetite. You'll be glad you did! read more

Love this place. Family owned and operated since the 1950's! They cook food to order, so sometimes a little slow, but any food worth having can take extra time in my opinion. I love the butterscotch milkshake. And their banana split is amazing!! read more

I don't normally post these type of posts but I will never eat at Shake Shack again. I arrived at 8 pm and after 20 minutes of waiting, I was told they would take my order in 5-10 minutes. So 45 minutes later they came back and told me they were closed and would not be taking any orders. I requested to speak with the owner (George Poe) and he refused to come talk to me, so I approached him. After explaining the situation, he told me he did not care and it wasn't his problem. He did not apologize, nor seem the least bit concerned. In my attempt to gain some resolve, he was very disrespectful and rude to me. I told him that I planned on leaving a review, he replied, "knock yourself out." I will never eat at THE SHAKE SHACK again. #REPOST read more

Good burger! Fries were kind of small for a large. The pimento cheese grilled cheese was just okay. The Oreo Shake in my opinion was just okay. It was a little too milky for me but my wife liked it. The servers are very nice and they're fast. If you're looking for something local, it's worth the try. read more

Shake Shack is a an old fashioned drive in located in sunny Cleveland, Tennessee. The shakes are great! Plus, I still have not figured out how they can make such a quality burger for such a low price. If you are going rafting on the Ocoee, stop and get a burger. read more

A time honored Cleveland tradition. A true hometown drive-in. Great burgers, onion rings and fries. Fabulous service from some beautiful car-hops and the ice cream? Mayfield ice cream is king around here and that's just what they have. The shakes are perfect. The sundaes are delicious, but my favorite is the banana split (I don't share). You can order from your car and eat there or sit at an outdoor table or even their indoor dining room. It's a perfect place to stop on your way to the lake or the mountains or on your way home so you don't have to cook after a long day there. read more

My father, brother and I decided to go on a Tennessee day trip. Our first stop was the Lost Sea, which although very interesting, is regrettably in the middle of nowhere. Food options in the area were limited to fast food chains and run down restaurants with poor outlooks. What to do? Fire up the Yelp machine! I found this place by sheer luck and was impressed by the great reviews. The name also caught my eye, since Shake Shack is also the name of national restaurant founded in New York that serves "gourmet"/"upscale" burgers and shakes. This location is not affiliated. However, I was a little nervous about the place based on what I could see in pictures and I was more nervous when we pulled up. This place is not exactly easy on the eyes. There was a shabby looking board (not pictured) up towards the front of the restaurant with flashing lightbulbs and the building itself is small and bordered by little picnic tables. A waitress came over to the car to take our order and we opted to dine inside instead. So a previous Yelp review stating that it's car service only is inaccurate. You can definitely go inside if you want to. The inside dining room is very small. There are six tables and no TV. There are a few magazines and there are little posters for random stuff like the NRA and local businesses. The health inspection paperwork on display dated 3/3/2016 bore a score of 100. The tables themselves are small ones that you could find at any fast food joint in America. The tables have a napkin dispenser, a menu, and a massive bottle of ketchup. One wall has a bunch of random college pennants. It is very plain and pretty quiet aside from the kitchen noises, since the kitchen door is directly across from the entrance. They keep it shut while there are diners inside, and if you need anything when the waitress is in the kitchen you can just knock on the door and somebody will come out. We got in and decided we needed to wash our hands first. The bathroom facilities are outside on the backside of the building. The bathroom doors are extremely heavy and the little girl that went before me had difficulty exiting the restroom. If you have kids, you will need to help them. The restroom was pretty clean. When we came back inside another girl came to get our drink orders. We ordered a water, a banana and chocolate milkshake, and a butterscotch milkshake, respectively. All drinks come in a styrofoam cup with a lid regardless of what you order. I really enjoyed my butterscotch milkshake. The butterscotch was not too overpowering. My brother loved his banana and chocolate milkshake, although he let me try it and I was not a fan. So on that note, you can mix milkshake flavors like my brother did. We all ordered the XL Double Cheeseburger just to see if we could all manage to eat it. I got curly fries with mine, and my brother got the Buffalo Fries. The curly fries tasted just like the ones from Arby's in regards to seasoning, but they were much better than Arby's. They held their shape very well and were like very tight curls. They were perfectly crisp and retained the excellent creamy interior instead of being mush like Arby's fries sometimes become. The Buffalo fries were a slight disappointment to me because I thought the use of the name "Buffalo" meant that they would be covered in hot sauce. Turns out, I wasn't aware that Buffalo fries are a type of fries that are just cut a certain way. They look sort of like fried pickles. So I have only myself to blame for being sad. The seasoning on the Buffalo fries was identical to the seasoning on my curly fries and they tasted fine. My brother was happy with them. The cheeseburgers were massive as advertised. They weigh one pound before being cooked! We had difficulty figuring out how to pick up these behemoths. It wasn't until later that I saw that someone held their burger in the basket wrapper. That would be how I recommend to hold this thing because mine started to go everywhere because so much meat can hardly be contained in a bun. They come all they way unless you request otherwise: so lettuce, pickles, onions, tomatoes, and mayonnaise. I don't think there was anything else on the burger (aside from cheese). The meat had that perfect "burger" taste. They were really tasty. We managed to eat every last bite. I would recommend this place for sure if you are in the area. People who really care about appearances and atmosphere will probably hate this place. But if you're willing to try a delicious burger and drink some tasty shakes made with love no matter where, then you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

The name of this place caught my eye because I am from NYC where there is a hamburger chain called Shake Shack. The two have no affiliation, as I later found out. I am disappointed to say, the NYC version is the better of the two. Shake Shack in Cleveland is mostly about the vintage experience. There was a sign stating it's been there since the 1950's and I imagine little has changed since then. It's a rugged looking building, I guess you could call it a "shack". The business model is that you pull up and order from your car and the food is brought back to you, basically a "drive-in" like Sonic. It's a fairly local sort of place, lots of trucks with big dogs in the back and the like - not quite "deliverance" but close. I was not very impressed with the food. The french fries had that raw potato in the middle thing where they are not cooked enough. The fish sandwich was just a processed patty like BK Big Fish, and bland. The hamburger was decent, but nothing special. I don't really like sitting in my car waiting for food either. The service was pretty slow and in the summer heat you have to leave the car running for A/C, which feels wasteful to me. On top of that, you are expected to tip the person who brings out the food. I'd rather sit and wait in an air-conditioned restaurant. Eating in the car is a nuisance too, a pickle slice fell off my sandwich and into the black hole next to the car seat; there are picnic tables but no one uses them. Honestly, there is nothing about this place that isn't done better by the fast food chains except for the Americana vibe, if that's your thing. ** I have since been informed there is indoor seating. When I visited this place, I walked up to the order window to place an order and they instructed me to order and get food from my car and so I just assumed that was the only option. read more

New to Tennessee and this was on top of our list. Really crowded as can be expected but food came out mildly fast. My burger and bun was cold and I asked if it can be heated up or another one could be made. Server said "can I hold it?" Then took payment and 5 minutes to process our card and get me a new burger or so I thought. But she came back and asked if I wanted to wait 15 minutes cause their were several orders in front of me... Such bad customer service if you ask me! read more

I usually love this place but my opinion has COMPLETELY changed. First of all, it took an hour for me to even make a freaking order (I literally had to go up and tell them that I was here and they haven't taken my order). Then it took at least 20 minutes for one damn ice cream cone when there was only like 3 other people there. Totally do not recommend. read more

And if you are not looking for healthy food, then ignore my review. :) We had the grilled cheese and the sweet corn bites, the mushroom bites, and the onion rings. We stopped here after a day of tubing the river. We were not expecting much because we thought we were going to the Shake Shack chain. This is the local version and turned out to be a treat after all! It's much like Sonic drive-in ordering. You stay in your car and honk your horn for service. My favorite things we tried - fried pickles (real good), onion rings (the best), buffalo fries (not spicy, just seasoned and comes with ranch), and milkshakes were amazing. My strawberry chocolate shake had pieces of real strawberry in it! Delicious after a hot summer day outdoors. Nothing special about the burger but everything else we tried we liked. read more

I love a place that sells tater tots. They do here and unless I miss my guess they were ore-idas too. None of that cheap store brand under belly of a potato here. Burgers are huge hand pattied fresh daily here. If you eat two you are more of a man than I am. They've got a real nice chili dog too. Nothing fancy, the weenie had never had any nice words said over it by a Rabbi and surely had never been to New York. Chili was regular had some beansbto it and was better on Thursday than it had been on Monday. The onions were fresh chopped Bermuda's that were cold and ride the chili like they were sitting saddles. A feller could eat one of these chili dogs in three bites holding it in one hand but not while riding a bicycle. Creamy thick milkshake will dust off the paprika and Portugal taste to the chili dogs. You can do two but best not to try your much with three. Here you either eat in your car or at the picnic tables. They'll come up to your car window to take your order if you roll the window down.
