As a South Florida native who is obsessed with Cuban food, I had read the reviews beforehand and was really hoping they would live up to the hype and thankfully, they absolutely did. Walking into this place felt like a little piece of home while on vacation. The fresh pastelitos, tostadas, house-made rum cake, and a cafecito were exactly what I didn't know I needed that day. Everything is made in-house, and you can taste the care and authenticity in every bite. Finding such great Cuban food in another state truly felt like the cherry on top of the trip. Aesthetically, the space is full of Cuban pride. The walls share the story of how the Rum Cake Lady came to exist, and it's genuinely beautiful to read about the journey behind the business while you're there enjoying the food. What stood out to me the most was how busy the place was long lines and lots of traction yet the staff remained friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout it all. That kind of hospitality makes a big impression. Thankfully, after a quick search, I discovered there's another Rum Cake Lady Cuban Café location not too far from the cabin we were staying at in Blue Ridge. Of course, we had to go back this time for dinner ordering the classic media noche! If you're visiting the area and craving something authentic and full of flavor, this place is a must. I'm really hoping they continue to expand, because what they've created is truly special.

Blairsville, Georgia~ Stopped in after reading the great…read morereviews. The owner was sweetly gruff! He told us he was from Cuba and raised in Miami. His wife and daughter are the cooks. The cafe is inviting although sparse. Chicky bowl had good flavor and the yellow rice really set off the flavor of the chicken. My lunch mate said it reminded her of a chicken cacciatore dish. Piggy bowl was really delicious with two different kinds of beans. The shredded pork was a nice blend of tart and crispy. Unfortunately the Cuban sammy left a lot to be desired. The bread was dry and hard, without any flavor. Yes it was "pressed " but we expected a sandwich with plenty of juicy meat and cheese hanging over the sides! Not so. Very little mayo or mustard to cut the dry bread, one pickle, and very little meat. (See photo) Three of us had the Cuban. All 3 of us agreed that this would not be something to recommend. One of my lunch mates had the schnitzel sandwich. The pork loin was breaded, dry and had no flavor. He also said he would not recommend this sammy. Overall, this would be a one and done for all of us. We are from Orlando and have some spectacular Cuban sandwich restaurants here. Lots of locals with great Cuban roots.

As soon as I entered, I was greeted very warmly and I was able to choose the table that I wanted to sit. The waitress was very friendly and very patient as I did not know what yo get. I asked her about the cuban sandwich and she spoke highly of it so I went with it. The rice and beans were seasoned to perfection and the sandwich had a very good flavor. The ambiance is great because there is plenty of space and/or spacious. If you want to try something new this is your place. The family works together which is good because you are getting the best customer service and the quality of the food is above what you can get from a chain restaurant.

This was my second time coming here. Both times, the guy at the front, Kevin Gilbert (I hope I…read morespelled your name correct), was very polite and friendly. I asked if the pastries on offer are their typical inventory, and Kevin said they were and that they don't really change it. That's not a complaint as they 1) have a good variety of things on offer and 2) that means they can get really good at the pastries they make. I did ask if they ever sell pies by the slice since I saw they sell cheesecake slices, but they only ever sell whole pies. Again, that's not an issue. The first time I came in, I got one of their filled donuts (the one that's topped with pecans or walnuts and is filled with like a vanilla frosting), which was really good. This time, Kevin let me try their tea cookies (or thumbprint cookies), which I was told is one of their most popular items. It is a good cookie (I think it was a pecan sandie with a sugar frosting), but I ended up getting 3 mini Danishes (1 cherry, 1 apple, and 1 cheese). The Danishes were much better than store bought ones, and if I were to rank them from least to most favorite, it'd be apple, then cheese, and then cherry (though all were really good). In short, the owner, Michael Gilbert, has a great bake shop in Cleveland, TN.
