I've never really had Peruvian food before, but this place was good. Amazing service as well. I took my family here and we had a great experience. My dad got the Aji de Gallina, my mom got El Miraflores, and I ordered a Pupusa. I also shared with my mom, and her entree was very delicious. The cooked veggies tasted fresh and flavorful. Portion size was large too. Also the green sauce was outstanding. It was slightly spicy and pleasantly creamy. It paired well with my pupusa. My pupusa was pretty tasty, I'll have to come back and get one with beans. The owner was so sweet and accommodating. He came to our table and talked with us for a little bit, getting to know me and my family. Overall, service and food were great. The interior is pretty simple and small, but this place is worth stopping by. read more

Disappointing: nearly $40 for 2 meals on paper plates with plastic forks. Drink options are bottled only, you cannot even get a glass of water with your meal. Limited selection and most of the display cases were empty, and all their empanadas were sold out and they weren't going to make any more. The pesto on my wife's Tallarin Verde was a heavy sludge that made the flavor muddy. The side salad was pure vinegar dressing and inedible. My Lomo Saltado was more palatable but unexciting, while the side of rice had a nice fresh cilantro flavor. The portion sizes were adequate. read more

All are tasty options to try and the owners who were running the register and food in the back, were very helpful in making a decision on the food. What a fabulous spot. My partner and I took a trip to Chattanooga and Blue Ridge, GA and researched vegan spots in advance to eat our way through. Aji is a short drive out of Chattanooga and WOW is it worth it! It was easily one of the best meals we had our entire trip. They have an entirely vegetarian menu and they can make most of it vegan if it's not already. We would've ordered almost everything, but we narrowed it down to: 1. Tamal Peruano 2. Ceviche Tofu 3. Sabor de Aji (so we could try multiple entrees) 4. Side of Tostones Everything was *so* delicious. The ceviche tofu was my absolute favorite - the sauce on it is out of this world! Very garlicky which I love. The tamal was moist and flavorful, the tostones were perfect, and the sabor de aji had three delicious tastings - guiso de quinoa, seco criollo, and saltado vegetariano. Each portion of the tasting was enough for both of us to get several bites. We loved them all, but the Saltado was a stand out! The sauce is so flavorful and the veggies are cooked perfectly while still retaining a little bite. They had to make several of ours with tofu in substitution of a vegan meat substitute they usually carry but were low on. If you're unsure of tofu, trying it here will definitely change your mind. I also ordered the Chicha Morada for a drink - an Incan purple corn juice mixed with several fruit juices. The depth of flavor was outstanding. Before leaving I am not ashamed to say we put in another order of the ceviche and saltado to go, along with the tofu and spinach empanadas. Raised as a vegetarian, now vegan, I haven't had many opportunities to try Peruvian food. This was an enormous treat and I experienced flavors I'd never had before! My partner who went vegetarian a few years ago and grew up eating Peruvian food thoroughly enjoyed the food here. We know we will come back here whenever we are in the area and we are even talking about planning trips around Aji! Finally tried this restaurant! We started with a papa rellana. This is a potato croquette with potato and steak inside and it's topped with a type of red onion salad. Delicious. I ordered the combination #2. Its 1/2 Rotisserie chicken with pinto beans, Peruvian rice and plantains I also ordered a ensalada de choclo. Omg it is so good. The chicken is cooked perfectly it's juicy and seasoned perfectly. The pinto beans & rice are on point. The plantains are the best I've had. They're firm but not too firm not greasy either. The ensalada de choclo is a corn salad with andrean corn. My husband ordered the aji de gallina very good and creamy. It's shredded chicken with potato and rice so good! I ordered a strawberry mango smoothie, it was good. They also let us try a free sample of the drink chicha morada that is so good they should sell it by the gallon. Overall this place was everything I hoped for. We will definitely return. Great staff and food. read more

Holy moly is this place amazing. First if they are the nicest people you could wish to meet. Second, they have such a great variety of fresh foods, and well labeled for a variety of diets (V, VG, GF). They have an area to sit in and eat and they do take out. We had the Lomo Saltado, Combo #1, and Bean and Bean and Cheese Pupusas, and Flan. Our expectations were high and we were not disappointed. This place is a diamond. On our way back home to Alabama, we decided to make a stop at this nice Peruvian place. We searched for about an hour until we found it. I have to say this was one of the best food experiences of my entire Memorial day get away vacation. They are located in a small town called Ooltewah about 1 hour from Chattanooga, TN. If you are ever in the area and looking for well portioned dishes, friendly service and authentic Peruvian cooking then this is your place. Come check them out. Went on a Sunday afternoon. My wife and I love trying new restaurants, and we are sure glad we tried this one! I got the combo #2 which is half rotisserie chicken with pinto beans, rice, and sweet plantains! All of it was really good. My wife got arroz Chaufa with chicken. She enjoyed it as well! We also got a large empanada with steak which was very good and fresh! All in all a great experience. Service was great as well! P.S. Since moving from Florida, finding good south American food in Chattanooga area has been nearly impossible. So, by scrolling down on Instagram and following some hashtags I found this Peruvian food place. It is a little of a drive for me but I needed to try it. We ordered a ceviche, lomo saltado, sweet plantains, arroz chaufa (peruvian fried rice) and alfajores. We also had chicha morada (purple corn drink) and passion fruit juice. The food took about 45mins to come out but the wait was 100% worth it. All food was super tasty, extremely hot (temperature speaking, if you have read any of my previous reviews I don't like/appreciate room temperature food). Lets break it down: Lomo saltado was really good, I wish it had skirt steak, but flap meat seems like it was, it could get a little too chewy but with the rice, the onions and the tomatoes all blends very well. The chaufa rice... I have no words to describe it. The texture, the sea food flavor, with the onions and chicken PERFECTION, same for the sweet plantains. Then we have the ceviche, it got pretty tart but it was still delicious and fresh. The alfajores could've had a bit more of the dulce de leche in between but still pretty good. And the drinks were pretty concentrated so we just added some water to both. They are enforcing social distancing so the sitting is very limited, they fully clean and sanitize the whole booth and table between patrons, they serve you in disposable containers which I don't really care for, I wish I would've brought a real fork. Next time I am just going to take it home, serve it on a plate and enjoy it that way. Service is really good as well, they take good care of you, explain anything you don't understand, prices are very fair. I will definitely be back and I also recommend trying this little hidden gem! Delicious place. My wife is Peruvian and I have tried a lot of Peruvian dishes. This place had delicious meals. We were in Chattanooga for few days and went there a couple times because there are no Peruvian restaurants in my city. They trumped us with flavor in all our meals. My wife had her delicious "Pollo La Brasa" twice and loved it both times. I had a couple meals from there vegetarian menu and they were all more than decent. I would very much recommend to everyone. Of note, if you haven't tried Peruvian food, give it a try. It is very different from other countries around Peru and very distinct from our regular 'mexican'. read more

What a nice restaurant to have near Chattanooga for something other than the usual. They have a great variety of vegetarian dishes and many traditional dishes too. I really like the chicha morada (purple drink). Aji is the epitome of a truly wonderful hole-in-the-wall find! Especially with the construction going on during my visit this restaurant seemed even more tucked away than I imagine it might on a normal day; however, this seclusion just added to the charm and love I now have for Aji after my wonderful restaurant experience. I came with 3 friends, and it was all our first times there, and we really did not know to expect. Since we came at an odd hour with low attendance, we were greeted quickly and sat immediately upon arrival. Our waiter was wonderfully helpful through the evening, as I'll touch on again, and he gave us a quick introduction to Aji so to speak. To start my friends ordered a couple appetizers, but we put our meal orders in simultaneously, and when it came to my order, the vegetarian Sabor de Ají, he immediately asked then if we wanted no cheese on the appetizer which is such a rare but awesome question as I try to eat vegan personally and I'm usually the one having to ask them, so I was super impressed! My friends ordered the 1) Tuca Tuca: tice and pinto bean patty topped with pan-fried steak or chicken breast seasoned with ají amarillo; served with salsa criolla 2) Pollo Saltado: Chicken breast strips sautéed with onions and tomatoes; served on a bed of fries, with a side of rice, and my full order is again 3) Sabor de Ají: sample three of Ají's vegetarian dishes; Guiso de Quínoa, Seco Criollo, and Saltado Vegetariano. Served with a side of rice. All of us loved our food! Quality was so good, and everything came out just as we ordered. Our waiter was awesome again and recommended 2 house sauces to go with the meal, one with a slight spice and the other that's much more mild, and they were superb on, as he himself suggested, essentially everything. Once finished, and all of us pleasantly stuffed, our waiter was kind enough to explain that should we want to come again we can do take out or even call ahead 15 mins. should we want our food to be hot and there right as we arrive. With such pleasant service and amazing food to match, along with the wonderful bevy of veggie options, it is without a doubt that I will make the trip back to Aji soon and if possible often! read more

I was so looking forward to going here. I've heard lots of great things. My friend took me here for a birthday dinner. I must have passed this place a dozen times and never saw it. It's a small place. There was one server and he was so nice and patient with us as we asked a million questions about what was what. We ordered a drink that I cannot remember the name. My friend called it the purple drink. LOL. We started off with the empanadas. Chicken, cheesy chicken, cheese and spinach and spinach and tofu. They are small but mighty - mighty tasty. I enjoyed all of the flavors. You couldn't even taste the tofu, gave it just a silky taste. We really couldn't decide what to order. I finally settled on the fried rice. The description sounded yummy. The reality is that it was just like Chinese fried rice. The flavors were good though. My complaint is that the rice was only partially cooked. It was still hard. It wasn't just my rice that was like that. The dish my friend had also had rice, white rice, and it was also hard. Her dish also came out cold. Barely even lukewarm. I would go back and try some other things but I don't think I'll get a rice dish again. read more

Good food and great service. Brought in a party of 8 on a Wednesday evening and found that the restaurant wasn't busy at all. When we ordered, our waitress was really helpful when one of us had her order for us (came back with the Sabor de Ají). I ordered the Chicharrón, which was really tasty. The fish was well prepared with a good Peruvian flavor. For drinks, I ordered the Inca Kola and Chicha Morada. Both were good, but I would definitely recommend the Chicha Morada because of the different ingredients that are contained in it. read more
