We chose to go to El Jinete for my daughter's birthday because as an adult couple we've enjoyed it previously. I hate to start with a negative but the tables are extremely small to the point that looking at menus with drinks on the table is difficult and stressful. That being said, the restaurant is very clean and the staff is very attentive. My daughter ordered a taco salad and was somewhat disappointed that it was served in an oversized taco shell but it tasted very good so she enjoyed it anyway. My wife ordered fajitas and enjoyed them. I ordered the Shrimp a la Diabla and it was delicious. Sweet and still very spicy. Some bites were a little above mild while others were flat out painful. I would have appreciated more consistency but still loved the dish. As far as any of the million Mexican restaurants in Cleveland, I've enjoyed this one the most. read more

WTheck? This place was so good!!! It went to hell! The pitcher of margaritas was like lemonade with a trace of tequila. The California burrito used to be so good! Now it was gristle and meat. The service was great, but we came for the quality of the food and drink, and it's definitely gone to hell! This place is great. The staff is amazing, really clean interior, fast service. The food is pretty good too, it's about as good as you could ask for in small town TN. I had the fajita burrito and the carne Asada. Next time I'm going to get a quesadilla or another burrito, but I'll pass on the carne Asada, it's rather tough. I have been here twice since it opened and both times, the food was disappointing. The first visit, the chicken breast was over cooked and tough. Tonight I had Carnitas and they were nothing but dry pork roast with absolutely no seasoning at all. Service was good, but not great. My wife did say that her fajitas were great. I am a Cleveland native, but have lived in Houston the past thirty years. I've got to tell you, the food at El Jinete would go head to head with any Mexican restaurant in Houston. We had the Chiles Poblanos Reales and Chilaquiles Mexicanos. We would order them again tomorrow. The red salsa is tasty but not hot at all. We told the waiter we were from Houston and the salsa was too gringo. He brought us a very hot tasty one. We ordered two El Caminorita margaritas that were very good. The only thing that was not so great was the hostess who seated us by tossing the menu's on the table and walking away. Speaking of the menu, it's Huge, which is usually a warning sign to me. I would recommend decreasing a little and just concentrate on your best dishes. We will visit again before we leave. read more

When this place first opened, it was definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in Cleveland. Now, it's going downhill fairly fast according to the number of cars in the parking lot this past Sunday evening. I've always gotten the Chiles Poblanos which are usually well stuffed with cheese. This past Sunday, I barely saw the thin layer of cheese inside the pepper! I ordered a medium margarita (which is around $13 or $15, I can't remember) and I asked for no salt. The server, Deisy, brought it WITH salt. When I told her I ordered no salt, she said, "You didn't say you didn't want salt." When I told her I did ask for it this way, she said, "No you didn't" even though everyone else at the table said they heard me. She did take it back and pour another one out of the gallon jug, but to be argued with was unacceptable, in my opinion. My family goes out for Mexican food every Sunday night as a group of 5-6 adults. I guess we'll be going back to our "old" usual place in the future. read more
