It's difficult to add anything new to what's already been written, but I'll try. My first impression was: underwhelmed. It's just a burger, gang. And not an over-the-top, fantastic, memorable burger at that. The size of the burger and the bun were underwhelming. I wanted to set a half-dollar or some other coin beside my burger to show the actual size of the bun. I've had bigger burgers at Burger King. I swear that the bun wasn't much larger than what I would have received at White Castle. The burger was juicy, and tasted good. It had a fair amount of pink inside, which isn't my favorite, but after spending more than $7 for it, I was going to enjoy it, darn it. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. I will say this. The bacon was done to perfection, nice and crispy, not the soggy, underdone bacon like what you find on most McDonald's breakfast sandwiches. The burger reminded me a lot of a Culver's hamburger. The white cheddar cheese was the best part. It was soft and melty, and quite creamy - absolutely delicious. The burger was fairly greasy, which the bun soaked up. The ordering and picking up process is a bit funky, as others have mentioned. Even if there are few, or no other, people there, they'll hand you a buzzer. Still, most people stand around the counter waiting for their food, rather than sitting down. They ask your name. When my burger was ready, my name was called, but my buzzer didn't go off. Perhaps they should just use one system - the buzzer or the name-calling, and ditch the other. I probably ended up waiting about five minutes for my burger. While I wish I could say that the service was pleasant and friendly, it really wasn't. There were no smiles, or thank you's. It didn't feel like the employees put much care or service into their work. It was merely a job they were doing. Here's your burger. The seating area is nice enough...kind of a casual trendy with tables made from reclaimed bowling alley wood. It's attractive. There's seating both inside the restaurant and in the mall itself. I saw one TV on the wall; there may have been more. Whether you're in the restaurant or outside of it, you'll have that ever-present ambient mall hum of noise and music. Several people have used the words "hype" or "over-hyped" to describe Shake Shack, and I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. I mean, we have so many burger choices - from casual chains like Burger Burger, Five Guys, Culver's, and Freddy's to the local places like The Nook and others, to fast food joints. The special sauce tasted similar to thousand island sauce/Big Mac sauce.. still yummy. The only thing I disliked was the price. It was $25 bucks for a two burgers, one fry, and a shake. As soon as I learned that the conference I was attending would be at the Radisson Blu MOA, I immediately researched all the food options available and knew that I had to eat at Shake Shack since there isn't one in my state. I purchased an original Shakeshake burger with fries and a chocolate shake. The fries were a-mazing! Perfectly crisp, they were a treat. Having had multiple custard based shakes before, the shake was good, but not fantastic. The burger was nicely grilled, although a touch pink. Service seemed to be a bit of a miss, with food taking awhile, and the infrequently used buzzer system. Given all of the options at the MOA, I don't know that I would come back again, but I would try another Shake Shack location! read more

The secret to this place is...drumroll! Go BIG or go home. We went before the lunch rush..and believe me when I say they get a rush. We were able to walk right up and order when we arrived, everything sounds and looks amazing. I had my adventurous eater with me (10 year old son) and he ordered the Shake Stack...I looked at the size of it and backed off to a bacon cheeseburger. We both ordered fries and a raspberry limeade, damage was a little under $32...yikes! Took about 10 minutes for it to come out as it's all made to order. It was a long 10 minutes for a pregnant woman and a humane garbage disposal to wait, but for the most part it was worth it. The bacon cheese burger was good, better quality than most places by far. Fries...probably would even bother next time, nothing fancy or even that great about them. Shake stack you ask? Are you freaking kidding me!? From New York to Minnesota, shake shack does not disappoint! The first time I ever tasted the shack stack was 2-3 years ago and it has become my go to burger place when I'm traveling to New York or Vegas or anywhere it is located.. don't even gotta ask me which one I like more (in-n-out or shake shack?) I feel like shake shack tops it! The shack stack is my favorite, it's also one of the fattiest burgers they have; topped with lettuce, tomato and a cheese stuffed portobello mushroom, the shack stack is pretty solid, plus the bun is really good -I got a thing for burger buns, it either makes or breaks a burger IMO and boy oh boy do they have good buns ;) Do I think it's a little frivolous spending $10 on a burger? Anyone who's a huge foodie has heard about the big hype with Shake Shack starting off as a food cart somewhere in NY and slowly expanding. But seriously, anything that started off as a food cart and got as big as Shake Shack currently is, you have to know it's because it's damn good. I first had Shake Shack when I was visiting Orlando, FL and impulsively decided to take a 50 minute drive through pouring, thrashing rain to try this place out. It did not disappoint. And now, it's here in Minnesota! No more driving to Chicago just to try this place. Now, on to the food. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I am obsessed with mushrooms so in terms of burgers, I always go for the Shack Stack ($9.59). It's a typical burger except with a fried portabella mushroom jammed inside and they always use these "Caution: Hot" stickers because when you bite in, the mushroom oozes out a bunch of cheese. It's essentially a mushroom version of a Juicy Lucy... who could ask for anything better? But seriously, the burgers have so much taste. They're juicy and explosive with so much goodness and flavor. It's so delicious, it'll have you licking your fingers for whatever's left. Now, their fries also do not disappoint. They're crunchy, fresh, hot, and tasty. And oh my gosh, you must get the cheese fries ($3.99) if you love cheese as much as me. They drench the fries in their housemade cheese sauce which is similar to nacho cheese sauce and it is BOMB dot com. I have yet to try their shakes and/or ice cream, but it is next on my list. Overall, this place is just pretty great. It has a decently large seating area that has nice and comfortable tables and chairs. The staff are very friendly and keep everything neat and organized. Yes you will have to navigate to the north side of the third floor after parking a half mile away. What you will find is a brand new food court coined "Culinary on North". Its expansive and quite upscale even down to the bathrooms. Shake Shack sits opposite another trendy addition; Piada Italian Street Food. I stopped by on opening weekend 30 mins after opening(1130) to find a line already wrapping down the hallway. The line went quick and in under 10mins I was holding a pager awaiting my meat coma. Shake Shack offers only a short list of burgers, fries, chicken, and ice cream treats. It won't take you long to find a favorite from the simple pleasures they offer. Myself I went with the standard ShackBurger, cheesey fries, and location signature Malt of America. The burger comes with a nice mayo/ketchup fry sauce that they term "ShackSauce". The meat is definitely the star and is flavorful, salty, moist, and satisfying. The signature Malt of America was exactly what I like in an ice cream treat and I can't wait to pair with it again. The cheese on the fries I wasn't super impressed with, so I'll probably just stick to the regular fries next time. You are probably wondering, why go through the hoops to make a trip to the MOA for a burger when you can get one so many other spots? Well I will say that this is the kind of burger that I will be craving, even with a half dozen fast causal burger shops between me and this Shake Shack. Shake Shack started out as a hot dog stand in New York City and has achieved near cult status. It's now expanded to cities around the U.S. and the world. I've bypassed stores in New York, London and Atlanta but finally tried the one at Mall of America. Overall, I was disappointed. I kept my order basic with a Shack Burger, crinkle cut fries and a chocolate malt. I found the burger on the small side with very thin slices of tomatoes. The cheese was nicely melted and gave the burger great flavor. Overall, the burger was very tasty. I love crinkle cut fires - they're my favorite after McDonald's fries. What I got was mostly tiny broken pieces. They were a major disappointment. I ordered a chocolate malt, which the menu states is a shake with malt flavor added for a small upcharge. Well, mine had zero malt flavor, zero. The chocolate malt at Dairy Queen is much better, bigger and less expensive, although I could tell that Shake Shack uses a better quality chocolate. And then there's the craziness behind the counter. Despite at least a dozen people working on orders, the system is not well organized, and results in annoyingly long waits of 10 - 15 minutes to receive your food. I was floored at the level of service by the manager (I didn't get his name as I was on a phone call- darn it!) he was a colored man with a beautiful will to make a customers eating experience great! Despite the quality burger, this location has so much working against it I find it hard to even give it a three star review. First star deduction, the food ordered in a certain way is crucial to the overall taste. I detest crinkle cut fries, but fries slathered in cheese approaches transcendence. Unfortunately, on the day of my visit they were out of peanut butter. If you haven't tried peanut butter on a hamburger, there's a McDonald's nearby that would be better suited to your "adventurous" taste. I understand the logistics of fast food especially a location heavily visited by tourists. However, it wasn't until after I had ordered, paid and began walking away did the cashier inform me they were out of peanut butter. My second deduction is for the service. The customer service was absolutely terrible. The restaurant was dirty, tables uncleaned and an unfriendly cashier who went out of his way to be unhelpful. I've been to a Shake Shack before and I remember not having to ask for all the fixings on my burger. Since they were out of peanut butter, I reordered my burger expecting to get lettuce, onion, tomato and etc, but I got exactly what I ordered, a single bacon cheeseburger. Shake Shack! You can never go wrong ordering from Shake Shack. The menu here had a ton of options that you could only find in the midwest-Minnesota-Wisconsin area, that looked very intriguing and interesting. The burger that I chose to try was Smoke Shack, with cheese fries and the monthly shake. After about 15 minutes, my order was ready. They got the burger right but they gave my plain fries and the wrong drink. They immediately gave me new fries but somehow forgot about my drink. The burger was one of my favorites that i've ever had at shake shack. It was very favorable and delicious and I highly recommend trying it. Overall, I had a pretty good experience here. read more
