Read the reviews, and I know it's been around for several years, but never tried this place until I decided to ask my friends to go since we were around the area. Black garlic ramen - 4.5 stars. The charsiu is unique because it has a smoky taste on the sides, and they give thick slices. Huge servings of every item we ordered. The soup was pretty good, but it didn't have a strong black garlic taste compared to other ramen restaurants. My friends ordered the oxtail and shrimp ramen, and lots of oxtail as well as large shrimp on top of the ramen. They loved the soup. The chicken katsu was huge and flavorful, but a little on the oily side. Service - 5 stars - service was great. Server was friendly and attentive. Parking - lots of parking, but crowded. I did not see a sign to scan the QR code for the parking as we drove in, and turned right into the front of the restaurant, as other yelpers mentioned, so not sure where it is, but at least nothing happened to my car. read more

Located next to youngs kalbi in the strip mall across Mcdonalds. Parking is odd because it looks like free parking but you have to scan this QR code and enter your license plate to me its more bs. first 2 hours free then it $5... really wierd. Okay so anyways Shaka ramen is on the corner The insides is airconditioned and clean with around ten 4 people tables. Bathroom is outside around the back of the building. The menu (pic) is your typical ramen house fare ramen..curry rice dishes..fried rice...etc The presentation was awesome!! Aestethics was so nice it looked fake. Noodles, katsu and char siu so thick, you won't need to eat anything else! Located conveniently in Aiea off of Moanalua Rd, they offer the best broth you could ask for in a ramen. We had tan tan ramen that hit just the right bit of spicy. The tonkatsu ramen was pork centered and delicious. Their servings are plentiful and side orders like gyoza are also wonderful. First time for my wife and I, tried the takoyaki and mochiko chicken curry with fried rice! Wife got the mapo tofu on crispy noodles and chicken skewers. Takoyaki came out and I thought was gonna be piping hot...IT WASNT! but it was redone for us and was way better! The portions are huge and I didn't make a dent in my plate. My husband is into a ramen crave lately. Maybe he's pregnant. Lol... So on yelp he saw this place in Aiea use to be Daiichi ramen. The server was friendly and to check up on us asking if we ok. I ordered the Zaru udon and my husband ordered Wakame ramen. We also had side gyoza. My udon was alot and the dipping sauce was good. Felt like eating ramen and remembered about this place located in Aiea Town Square right next door to Young's Kalbi. I ordered the Special Combo which comes with ramen and 1 or 2 choices of entrees: - For the noodles, you can choose between ramen or udon, choice of Miso, Shoyu or Shio broth OR add $2 more if you want TanTan, Tonkotsu, Curry or Black Garlic broth. I chose the ramen with Miso broth. It didn't have too much taste and did not taste like miso. - Entree choices are Mini Curry Rice, Mochiko Chicken, 4-piece gyoza, Calamari, Mini Pork Fried Rice, Takoyaki, Croquette, Shrimp, Fish, Chicken or Spam Katsu. I ordered the Mini Curry Rice and Chicken Katsu. Both were okay...nothing stood out except maybe the katsu sauce...this was good. I was disappointed with the katsu pieces...it didn't look at all like the pics people posted on Yelp or their menu. What I received looked like scraps, it had more batter than meat. Okay I've eaten here three times as it's literally at the bottom of the hill from our house. I'm a fan of Mapo Tofu Soup, love the spiciness, the thicker viscosity and the silky tofu that together makes this a perfect soup for me. Unfortunately both times I've ordered it I was disappointed. This last time the soup broth was too thin, I didn't even add the accompanying miso because it was so weak. Once I pulled the udon noodles through the gravy broth it was watery and nearly flavorless. There was maybe half the amount of tofu and it was cubed too small so they just broke apart. The gyoza I ordered were fried nicely however they were sweet which was off putting. Not sure it they actually added sugar instead of salt or because there were carrots in them. I've never had carrots in gyoza that I remember. I did enjoy the Soba salad that I got after an appointment at another business but it's pretty hard to get that wrong. Ordering was very easy over the phone each time and ready when we got there to pick up. The workers are pleasant and accommodating. Parking is in a shared and is the location of the old Daiichi Ramen business. read more

Stopped by after visiting Pearl Harbor before our flight. We didn't want to go anywhere near downtown and started searching, and grateful this place came up. The lady serving us was so friendly and welcoming, and helped us figure out what to get. I ended up getting a combo meal and it came with chicken katsu, fried rice, and the udon!! I've gone to Shaka Ramen around 4 times now. Two visits I got the curry rice bowls chicken katsu / chicken mochiko. Both times it was consistent on flavor and quality. I've gotten their kimchi and gyoza, their gyoza is notably good and the kimchi is good kimchi. I got their ramens the other times, both ones I had, had good broth flavor (balanced not too salty not too bland, good portion size and enough toppings. First time, shoyu ramen , second Combo plate: small ramen, you can select base soup between shoyu,miso, etc., & 1- 2 side dishes : gyoza, vegetable roll, calamari, small curry plate. 3rd visit calamari curry! The calamari curry is INSANELY yummy! This has been by far the best calamari I've ever had. The batter to calamari ratio is on point! It's so crispy on the outside and the calamari is so soft and tender. Finally! Calamari that I don't have to chew a zillion times just enough to swallow it!
