Sadly, they are no longer a late night option. Food was good for an affordable price late at night, but we may rarely visit now that their hours align with other options. We pulled in at about 10pm a while back to find them closed. No change in hours on the door, it still said close 11:30. Last week we tried again around 10pm, and found that they had updated the hours on the door to 9:30 close. Update for my update, we made it a point to go before closing, around 8:45. The free ice water could be improved/filtered better. I assume it's the ice because the water was fine until the ice melts, leaving a bad aftertaste. I ordered the black garlic ramen and got the free gyoza for this review. The gyoza is surprisingly good and you can tell that they make it in house. As for the ramen, it's good, but could use more black garlic or something more pungent, to elevate the flavor. The noodles (ramen) itself is well cooked, with a good bite to it. Overall it was good. The special combo is filling! Part one: Select from ramen or udon, along with shoyu, miso or shio broth (add $2 for a specialty broth like tan tan or black garlic). Part two: select two items from a variety of options (I selected the gyoza and mini curry; but options include takoyaki, croquettes, and many more). They make their own gyoza and their sauce is good! A reliable ramen place in Aiea that closes late for those last minute get-togethers or those late night ramen cravings. This place is casual and that's one way to describe the ramen as well. It's not super amazing, but it's not bad like other places I've seen. The main reason why I've come here is because it's the only one open until 11PM. My friends and I stayed here until 10:00PM and there were still customers trickling in and even customers from the gym who ordered ahead of time so their ramen was ready as soon as they walked in; pretty awesome customer service if you ask me. Overall, the ramen was good, the special combos are better IMO. Like many other ramen places, I would suggest the 2 choice combo because you can take home another meal. My husband ordered the ramen + curry + gyoza for only about $17 which is a great deal in Hawaii. And yes, you can take home the curry. Came here tonight after I landed from my trip to San Diego. Wanted to eat something local and Asian since I was eating pretty much Americanized food in San diego. Unfortunately after covid, not too many places are open late during the weekdays in our area. It's nice to know that this local establishment stays open a little bit later than most places, so that way folks can get a good meal even if it's late. I ordered the combo with Ramen, Curry, and mochiko chicken, and a side of gyoza. The price was fair, food was good, and the waitress was very attentive and friendly. Shaka ramen is a good ramen spot if you are looking for quick and affordable ramen! It's definitely not on the same level as Wagaya ramen, but more similar to Ramen-ya or Daiichi ramen.. We got the black garlic ramen, Super Bowl ramen, and deep fried oysters. The black garlic ramen was more flavorful than the Super Bowl ramen. We will likely get the black garlic ramen again rather than the Super Bowl. The deep fried oysters were crispy and fresh. Service was super quick, however we did come here on a Wednesday night so it was slow. Waitress was also very friendly! Theres a lot of free parking as well which is nice. Sunday lunch with my gf and her father, of course it's a busy time and we decided to try out Shaka. We were very lucky to get parking in front of the shop. I will say that with the other places there and because they only offer take out, lots of cars coming in and stopping there for pick up, which can be stressful to say the least. Any case, menu reminds me of the menu from places like Ramen Ya. Nothing wrong with that as it can fill you up. Ordered food amd was told that the cook was gone and it was a good thing that they knew how to cook those dishes we ordered. Anycase, it was a weird vibe, seemed very rushed and all in all...probably will go there as the option if people don't want to wait as other places are busy. A solid option for ramen in Aiea, unfortunately the place is showing some wear. Came in for lunch on a Saturday and I was greeted immediately by the hostess and given my choice of table. Sadly, many of the chairs in the restaurant are in a rough shape with the seat material sagging or the wooden bottoms cracked. I hope they can fix or replace the chairs soon. I ordered their Tonkotsu Ramen and a 6 piece side of Gyoza. The ramen toppings include 3 pieces of char siu, half a seasoned egg, baby bak choy, a generous amount of bamboo shoots, a slice of fish cake, green onions, and 2 thin sheets of nori. Interestingly, they list peanut butter as an ingredient in the broth and I wondered if it would be noticeable. We'll, it's not a dominant flavor but it is there. It adds a bit of sweetness and nuttyness. The char siu is tender, and the egg is seasoned and cooked well. The noodles are cooked perfectly with a good chew and very tasty. I added some crunchy garlic halfway through and it added a nice boost to the flavor. The Gyoza is nicely cooked and very tasty. The filling is a mix of pork and veggies. The wrappers are a medium thickness with a good chew. I wished there was a little more filling in each gyoza piece, but still overall they were very good. Lots of menu options and varieties of ramen. You can also sub udon noodles for an extra charge. In the end I'd give them 3.5 stars. Fix or replace the chairs and it's a 4. Recommended. read more

We recently tried Shaka Ramen (located next to Jenny's Barber and Young's Kal-Bee) recently for the first time. Cliff notes: good value, average food, and below average service. I got the Mini Shoyu Ramen two (2) choice combo with a mini curry and spam katsu (two pieces). While coming in at just over $14, the value was there but the food was quite average. The shoyu ramen broth was good, but the rest of the ramen was nothing to write home about. The curry was standard curry, with one large piece of potato and one large piece of carrot included. Spam Katsu was also nothing interesting or special. Unfortunately, the service was a little rough. Timing of the dishes was not very good (approximately fifteen minutes from the first dish dropping to the second), so if you're polite and wait for your table mates to receive their food before you start eating, you might be having your entree cold. Another issue was not being told that they didn't have a certain dish until about twenty five (25) minutes AFTER we ordered it. Also of note is the server dropping the check without confirming we didn't want to order anything else. It gives the vibes of "we want you out of our restaurant". A silver lining was that the waitress kept our waters filled, so there's something. Highs: Mini ramen two choice combo is a deal with lots of variety. Keiki Ramen is also a decent deal, despite not having anything by kamaboko in it. Lows: The service. read more
