My experience ended up being the complete opposite! I was immediately greeted with a friendly welcome, and the gentleman at the front took genuine care in preparing my lean protein plate. He served me fresh chicken, and the meal was delicious. More importantly, he made me feel welcome. It never felt like I was inconveniencing anyone by coming in later in the evening. Great food, great service, and exactly the kind of hospitality that keeps people coming back. I'll definitely stop in again the next time I'm in town!

The chicken has some variation for different flavor profiles or katsu vs grilled. The part which threw me off was the amount of food per size. The owner came out and gave us the run down, with the largest size being 1lb of meat, but the smaller two sizes did not register for me until I ordered the medium and realized it might be better to split as some then and some leftovers. The meat itself is very good and I could see myself just getting a box of the meat with no sides. The cuts are well grilled and/or fried. I wouldn't be shocked if those were the plated highlights at a higher end restaurant, so I will definitely be back for more and to try the non chicken options. The sides were nothing out of the ordinary. I did really like the Mac salad, but it was a bit heavy with all the meat I ate. The veggies and rice were standard. At about $16 or $17 per medium box this price was more than fair in my mind.. I am hoping Mo'Bettahs is in Cityscape and expands. My only recommendations which would put this below a 5 is that the signs explaining how to order were a bit unclear. The walk up side shows potential bowl combinations, and then there is another side which has the pick your owwn menu. I was a bit confused when ordering and more direct and earlier would have been helpful. I can see that being a challenge if they get busy and there a multiple new customers in line. Again, I will be back. This is my new choice over Chipotle and Cava.

We had gotten the original burger, and double sliders with a side of fries and onion rings. I'm normally not a fan of onion rings, as I am a picky eater, but the flavor and texture of the rings here was just so spot on that I can already tell nowhere else will ever compare. The fries were perfectly salted, not too much and not too little. They had a perfect crisp to them too. The sauces weren't watery either, which I appreciated always. The burger itself was literally the bomb. It had the perfect amount of everything. I typically feel some places put tomatoes on burgers and the tomatoes just get to be too overpowering and out of place, but over here, they're very complimentary with all the other flavors you taste when you take a bite. The sliders were pretty simple, but still very enjoyable especially for a small bite if you aren't feeling an entire burger. Overall, 10/10. Arizona has a problem with fish 'n chips. Namely that all they have here are the square, frozen fish patties. All the places Arizonans rave about (like Pete's and Mandy's, etc.) are just frozen fish patties. That's not fish 'n chips. That's a TV dinner. Thankfully, Knock Kneed Lobster is a throwback to an actual fish 'n chips joint. No frozen patties anywhere in sight. The place was built in the 40s and it's in a crappy neighborhood near Sky Harbor airport and diagonal from a strip joint. But don't let that stop you. There is so much to try here and none of it disappoints. The fish is Alaskan cod and it's as good as anything in the west coast. California has some stellar fish n chips, and the fish here is just as good. The cod is flaky and mild and fresh. The batter is cornmeal based, but it's light and not doughy or raw inside. They fry it to a perfect golden brown. The menu has dozens of variations of it (1 piece, 2 piece, 3 piece with 2 shrimp, etc.). The basic fish n chips comes with some old fashioned French fries (the perfect skinny ones like they should be). And one of the best parts is the "salsa bar" where you get your own tartar sauce, ketchup, cocktail sauce, ranch, fresh cut lemons, as much as you want. Mix and match; whatever. In another area you can dispense malt vinegar and Louisiana hot sauce to your heart's content. And in another area is an enormous fountain drink machine with everything you can imagine. But beyond the fish 'n chips is a lot more. The fried shrimp is awesome. They have clams and oysters and catfish too. And don't miss the fried zucchini. It's one of the best I've ever had, and their ranch is excellent. The fried mushrooms are to die for, so it's tough to pick! This place is the real deal. It's definitely a throwback to another era, and I imagine these places won't survive for much longer. Family-owned restaurants are being attacked through regulation, economic pressure, city ordinances, and enormous pressure from corporate-owned eateries. Come here while you still can and taste what really good fish 'n chips should be- even in the middle of the desert.
