The inside was super cool and nice! The server was also quick and helpful. My only complaint is that it is pretty expensive! The coffee was good but I don't know if it was worth the price point :/

I was very excited to try this place out, as the interior looked really nice online. We were right. So nice inside and I asked for the baristas recommended cold coffee. I think it was the habibi latte. I had oat milk as well. So beautifully presented and it tasted very nice. The oat milk is nutty but the sweetness was perfectly complementary.

Shaghf Cafe brings specialty coffee and crave-worthy desserts all the way from the UAE. It has quickly become one of my favorite new spots especially for a late night sweet tooth (they're open until 12 am). The space has a calm, minimal atmosphere with plenty of seating, perfect for enjoying a treat, reading a book, or getting some work done. I can't stop thinking about their pistachio Nutella strawberry cup; the mix of gooey Nutella, fresh strawberries, and the perfect crunch in every bite is unforgettable. The staff and owners are incredibly kind and make every guest feel welcome. Whether you're stopping in for coffee or dessert, this spot is a must-visit.

Absolutely amazing. Very unique to Portland and no place like it around. Menu option are all so good I had no idea what to get. Everything we got was delicious and I'll need to go back to try so much more. Very friendly staff and very aesthetic vibe inside. We will be back

Very friendly staff that gave us some great recommendations. We had the biscoff and Nutella crepes with strawberries, it was truly decadent. We also bought 4 of the lifelike fruit cakes. I've seen them all over TikTok and hadn't seen them anywhere locally. They were hard on the outside and mousse like on the inside. Amazing flavor. Atmosphere was modern and clean.

A new addition to the Portland cafe scene, currently the newest as far as I know. As of writing this review the name is incorrect as Shaghf Coffee while it is actually named Shaghf Cafe. It is part of an international chain originated in the United Arab Emirates with this particular location being I believe their 12th location in the USA. Their space is quite large with friendly staff who greeted us and also brought our drinks to our table when done. The space is beautiful with just the right amount of decor/plants and neon lights to make the space pop. Comfortable seating while to enjoy your beverage and/or food. I asked what the staff suggested for the best cold drink and they suggested the Pistachio Latte while my wife got the Corn Flake Latte. I think both were very solid and unique. I look forward to returning to try more drinks as they offer a lot of drinks you won't find elsewhere nearby. Also need to return to give their delicious desserts in the display case a try! They had sooooooo many things that looked delicious! Looking for a new and different cafe in the Portland area then check this spot out!

Cute new coffee shop in Portland. Def unique coffee flavors and come in cute little cups. The sweets looked great as well even though I didn't get any. The inside has lots of seating. Not your average coffee shop.

Service is great. Spanish hot coffee reminds me of my Moms coffee, it's perfect. Strong and not too sweet. The ambiance is nice, it is set up Like a lounge.

loved it! the interior of this place is stunning, and the menu is gorgeous as well. the strawberry matcha, the frozen coffees, and the pistachio cheesecake are all notable favorites of mine. it's expensive, though not exponentially moreso than any other place in portland in 2025. service is prompt and not super chatty, it's a quiet place to do work definitely (other than the really odd hours but if you're a morning person good on you). street parking is pretty available and it's next to back cove bookstore which is a fun stop as well.

Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still! If you somehow read this today and have the chance make it in for one last visit tonight before they close their doors!

It's been a long while since I have been here. Way back during pre-pandemic times during a Maine Beer Week. I really enjoyed it and would have likely given 5 stars had I reviewed back then. Maybe that is just me wearing rose colored glasses and thinking more positively than it was though. They have since expanded to have more food offerings than just cake and more drink options than just beer. I do believe it's an improvement to have more options and was a smart business move! This stop in the vibe just didn't feel the same leaning towards a negative way unfortunately. I was excited to give their cocktails a try and my wife got their French 75 while I got their Pickletini because I love pickles so why not! I suspect due to how similar the drinks are, the bartender garnished the wrong drink with the pickles so that was a bit off initially for the French 75. It was a simple fix though. So overall, I still appreciate the decor and ambiance despite the vibe being a little weaker now in my opinion. I would return to give their food a try and do believe it's a solid option for a bar especially if you want to avoid wharf street.

After having some of the bread prior to our meals at a few restaurants, we found out the bread is locally sourced at a sister business right around the corner from where ate the night before. There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!

On this trip, we stopped at the smaller West End shop the night we arrived, then visited the Portland Bayside location the next morning. We picked up a medium pumpkin pie, a bourbon pecan pie, and an individual blueberry pie for a relative. The blueberry pie was excellent--made with real Maine blueberries and a perfectly flaky crust. I usually go for their sweet pastries, but the cheddar scallion biscuit was a standout: melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The large peanut butter cookie was soft in the center and very tasty. Service at both locations was friendly and helpful. The West End shop has a small seating area, while Bayside offers more tables and (I think) a counter with stools. We got everything to go since we were visiting family up north. They do serve coffee, and note they're closed Monday and Tuesday. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Portland.

Gofres are these smaller, sweeter, denser waffles that taste delicious with either a drizzle of caramel OR a drizzle of vanilla icing (like what you get on top of cinnamon rolls). Good, old fashioned, fun. It's good for kids. It's good for drunken twenty-somethings outside of Fore Street bars. It's good for tourists. It's good for those of us with a sweet tooth who need a fix but don't want to spend a lot of money. And it's good for those of us who like the idea of s'mores, but maybe don't want to purchase all the ingredients to make them ourselves, because... let's face it... there's always half a box of graham crackers leftover (and seriously, what does anyone ever do with those?). It's run by a staff of fun-loving folks. And they've got fire. So, basically, it appeals perfectly to most people's inner child. There's only two things that prevent me from giving The Marshmallow Cart full marks: 1. Marshmallows are typically made with gelatin. Gelatin is typically made from animal by-products (think bones, skin, and tendons). I don't know (but would update this in a heartbeat if I did) if The Marshmallow Cart makes their marshmallow's with gelatin or if they're vegetarian-friendly and use guar gum, agar agar, or pectin. That being said, as a vegetarian, I'm not exactly rushing to get back here for this particular product. 2. THE WAFFLES ARE DELICIOUS. They sooooooo remind me of my Spanish gofres, but... The Marshmallow Cart doesn't have icing for them. I think the only options are marshmallow or nutella. Allow me a Veruca Salt moment, if you will: I WANT ICING. AND I WANT IT NOW. I would come out of my way for this if it was available. Maybe I should just start carrying my own bottle of it around in my purse? The point... if you like marshmallows (and don't have a plant-based diet), s'mores, waffles (sans icing), fire, and smiling... The Marshmallow Cart will not disappoint.
