Two Fat Cats was on my list of places to hit up during my first proper trip to Portland back in 2021. For one reason or another, I didn't make it back then - but made it a priority to visit during my recent trip to the city. I had heard nothing but good things, so we made plans to pick up some breakfast and pastries to go the morning we were heading back to NY. The bakery itself was larger than I expected - is almost wholesale-like with all of their kitchen operations visible from the front counter and high ceilings. It was a happy surprise to see parking along the side of the building, and they also had some seating towards the far end of the main pedestrian area. Pies are the main star of TFC's menu, which are all on display adjacent to where you order. We put those pies on the back burner and decided to order some breakfast carbs first - I got an egg and cheese biscuit sandwich and we split a blueberry scone, cinnamon roll, and cherry hand pie. The sandwich was pretty good - it had good flavor but I think the combination of being wrapped in foil and then placed in a warmer made the bread stick too much to the fillings and be a little too soft overall. The blueberry scone and cherry hand pie were good, and the cinnamon roll was excellent. We decided to pick up a pie for the road - we got the blueberry crumb because Maine and because we love blueberries. The pie was really good and super unique - the "crumb" was almost oatmeal or granola like in texture, and that continued into the crust. It made for a good texture contrast with the pie filling. It was unlike any other blueberry pie I've had and totally memorable. Service was good, and overall I'm a fan of Two Fat Cats. I wouldn't call it my favorite bakery in Portland, but they do serve up some of the best pie I've had in a while. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

My husband and I are new to Portland and absolutely love Two Fat Cats! They make the best breakfast sandwiches in town, I highly recommend that you try them. We look forward to exploring more of their pastries! Inside is a really cool vibe, it would be a great workspace and they also have board games. Honestly our only complaint is that they aren't open early on Sundays!

The food was pretty good however it was nothing out of this world. The blueberry pocket was good and so was the pumpkin Whoopie pie. It was not something that I would be thinking about for days after and hoping to come back one day. It was decent if you're looking to try some new flavors. I wish they sold the blueberry pie as individual slices rather than the blueberry pocket however, I think they must've ran out when I went. This place is a cute little shop right where I live and it was super nice to go to. The service was super Duper good they were very knowledgeable about all their items.

I'm giving this 5 stars JUST for the whoopie pies and I don't even like whoopie pies, but shen in Maine. I went to the bigger location on the outskirts of Portland so it wasn't as busy so it was quick service amd plenty of parking. And that whoopie pie was AMAZING.

Really love the variety of options here. Especially in the pies. They've got whole and minis. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie was DELICIOUS! I was actually not expecting this. The Only reason we even got this was because my brother wanted to try something with rhubarb. It was the Perfect balance of sweet and tart and just so good, we went to get more! Blueberry Pie was okay. I was expecting something really nice after reading their reviews online, but it was just so so. Very creative whoopie pie: Lemon Zucchini Cake with Blueberry filling. This was unexpectedly good. The filling kept coming out on the sides because it didn't stick on to the cake but still so good! Key Lime Pie was delicious too! Smooth pie and a nice crust. Good balance of sweet and tart.

Delicious pastries. We picked up whoopie pies and a raspberry rhubarb pie today. They have moved from their original location since we were last in Portland, gone too long. If you're looking for wonderful pies, cakes and sweets, look no further.

I'd be the third fat cat if I lived closer! TFC's claim to fame is the pies and they definitely do not disappoint. These pies are just the best! I've had these shipped to me via Goldbelly and had them when I visited Maine, and they are great each and every time. They have a few favorites but I just can't look away from my goto Blueberry, which is not overly sweet, with a great crust. The rest of the bakery is just as great. I'd enter the great whoopie pie debate with these as my entries but that's a whole other fight in the great State of Maine. The scones are delicious as well. In fact everything I tried from TFC was delicious on a recent visit. Go visit this Maine institution, it's definitely one of the best no matter where you're coming from.

On a day trip to Portland Maine, I had to try a Wild Maine Blueberry pie. Yelp led me to Two Cats Bakery a charming bakery in downtown Portland. I had a mini blueberry pie and it was delicious with incredible blueberry flavor and a flaky buttery crust. There were pies for sale as well as merchandise and housemade products. Delicious and highly recommended bakery for pies.

    Vegan blueberry pie at home.

Believe the hype. This *is* one of the best blueberry pies in the state of Maine. "Made from scratch, baked fresh daily, and filled with wild Maine blueberries. The way pie should be." (from their website; it's just too good not to quote directly!). You can visit the bakery (in Portland or South Portland)! You can do a local preorder online (with 48 hours advance)! You can even place an order for nationwide shipping! They even offer a vegan version of their Blue Pie ("the ideal Maine pie: famous wild Maine blueberries tossed with a sprinkle of sugar and warm spices"). It's packed full of vibrant blueberries and the crust melts in your mouth. Pick-up a pint of vanilla ice cream, and you have the best, most summery dessert there is! Also, the pie holds up really well in the freezer! I do wish they'd offer more vegan options (maybe a cinnamon roll, or scone, or a couple other year round and seasonal pie flavors), and who knows? Maybe the will. For now, this is my go-to for Maine's state dessert.

Really nice bakery with a nice selection of pies, cakes and pastries. Just drip coffee, which is tasty. Staff is very nice and helpful, and they move the line quickly. Prices are very reasonable. Try the cinnamon roll!

Great pie. Fantastic crust. But $27 dollars for a very small pie lacking filling? Coffee mediocre. Pass.

Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still! If you somehow read this today and have the chance make it in for one last visit tonight before they close their doors!

After having some of the bread prior to our meals at a few restaurants, we found out the bread is locally sourced at a sister business right around the corner from where ate the night before. There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. Gofres are these smaller, sweeter, denser waffles that taste delicious with either a drizzle of caramel OR a drizzle of vanilla icing (like what you get on top of cinnamon rolls). Good, old fashioned, fun. It's good for kids. It's good for drunken twenty-somethings outside of Fore Street bars. It's good for tourists. It's good for those of us with a sweet tooth who need a fix but don't want to spend a lot of money. And it's good for those of us who like the idea of s'mores, but maybe don't want to purchase all the ingredients to make them ourselves, because... let's face it... there's always half a box of graham crackers leftover (and seriously, what does anyone ever do with those?). It's run by a staff of fun-loving folks. And they've got fire. So, basically, it appeals perfectly to most people's inner child. There's only two things that prevent me from giving The Marshmallow Cart full marks: 1. Marshmallows are typically made with gelatin. Gelatin is typically made from animal by-products (think bones, skin, and tendons). I don't know (but would update this in a heartbeat if I did) if The Marshmallow Cart makes their marshmallow's with gelatin or if they're vegetarian-friendly and use guar gum, agar agar, or pectin. That being said, as a vegetarian, I'm not exactly rushing to get back here for this particular product. 2. THE WAFFLES ARE DELICIOUS. They sooooooo remind me of my Spanish gofres, but... The Marshmallow Cart doesn't have icing for them. I think the only options are marshmallow or nutella. Allow me a Veruca Salt moment, if you will: I WANT ICING. AND I WANT IT NOW. I would come out of my way for this if it was available. Maybe I should just start carrying my own bottle of it around in my purse? The point... if you like marshmallows (and don't have a plant-based diet), s'mores, waffles (sans icing), fire, and smiling... The Marshmallow Cart will not disappoint.

Holy Donut opened their first Portland location back in 2012, and they now have five locations around the state, including this DT location which is probably their busiest. The Good: *Vegan & Gluten-free offerings--but they're not synonymous! Check the fine print or ask. *Coast-to-Coast shopping options, including vending machines (we saw some at PWM). *Online ordering available for pickup. Tbh this is probably the way to get them, as you can skip the line and go straight to the back at the pickup window and just get your stuff right quick. You're welcome. *Donuts are made daily from scratch and feature seasonal and limited flavors. The Meh: *You'll most likely have to pay for parking at this DT location. *You'll also most likely encounter a large line to order from, depending on the time of day. When we walked by earlier before lunch it was HUGE, but after lunch it was down to manageable ±10 people ifo of us, and it did move pretty quick, as well. I mean, it is just donuts ffs. It shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to decide. The Ugly: *Pricing is a bit obscene at ±$5/ea, but it's to be expected in a extremely popular area full of tourists and cruises. *Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm very particular about donuts in general, but I found them to be very heavy and just OK. Also, the flavors could've been punchier, as I found the taste a little too muted for my liking. Conclusion: Definitely not worth a long wait or the price imo, but if you're in the area, the line is short, and you have $5 burning a hole in your pocket then I say go for it. Because, evidently, I'm in the minority judging by the popularity and reviews. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
