I knew for my first time trying matcha, I should try matcha mood and it did not disappoint! The worker was really helpful in picking out a drink, so I went with the strawberry matcha. The inside was really cute, with a big menu on the wall that depicted different drink options which I enjoyed. The matcha also came in a Valentine's Day reusable cup which was so cute! I tried the Brown Butter Pistachio Matcha with whole milk, yet the drink was not very creamy and was almost watered down. The matcha is there, but it's not strong and does not justify spending $9 for. My friend also got the same drink with oat milk, but that drink was creamier. We asked the worker about it, but they said the difference in creaminess was because of the difference in milk. However, I would expect the whole milk one to be creamier. read more

THE CUTEST MATCHA SPOT TO EVER EXIST!! It's a matcha girlies dream. They have cute little games and so many photo op spots for your matcha drink. They sell whisks and ceramic bowls. The matcha menu is extensive but all the drinks sound so good. My group decided on the coconut, sesame, and strawberry. All I can say is it did not disappoint!! You can tell the matcha quality is better than most places. It wasn't powdery and the drinks weren't sweet. You could taste the earthiness. It was the best matcha we've had in a while. The girl working the register and making our drinks was efficient and sweet. We will definitely be coming back. They also have punch cards, so if you're a matcha lover like me you'll get an 11th one on them! read more

Black sesame matcha (8/10): very good. I was afraid the black sesame would be too clumpy, but it was mixed very evenly. Smooth drink that went great with oat milk. My only gripe is the prices are nuts. Almost $10 for every drink. We asked for less ice, but the cup still ended up being half ice. Decorations/interior were nice. Not a whole lot of seating. read more

Happy surprise to find Matcha Mood as I walked around downtown Portland for food. Both inside and outside are adorably decorated with lots of matcha related pottery and goods on the side for purchase. There were so many options to choose from, and I ended up going with the basic option of Strawberry Matcha. Service was quick, and matcha was delish. Wish I can take Matcha Mood back to NC! I LOVE the variety of matcha drinks they offer! So many unique flavors to choose from & not too sweet. I ordered the Ube Dream which was nutty, creamy and overall delicious. There is not a lot of seating and it was very packed when I arrived so it's more of a to-go shop but super cute and aesthetic overall. The workers were so cheery and helpful. The drinks are a bit on the high side $8-9 per drink. Plenty of milk options to choose from and crufffles too! One size of matcha drinks. This should be the one and only spot you grab matcha from. It's a small little shop but is decorated perfectly and is so inviting!! I usually always have to ask for no sweetener or only 1/4 sweet, but I wonder if it's because they're respecting and using real matcha they aren't using extra sweetners? This place serves very creative matcha drinks and non matcha drinks. The staff are friendly and the interior is very cute, although not much seating. Arguably the best matcha in the northeast (not including NYC). If you disagree, please send me other top contenders! In my opinion this place is on the same level as some in the Bay Area CA. They have very tasty looking options and I was very happy with the Earl Grey Iced Matcha Latte and the Iced Matcha Latte with Matcha Cold Foam that I tried. The only thing I would've changed is in asking for my Earl Grey Matcha to be slightly less sweet. So if you're looking for a space to sit and work this wouldn't be the place depending on how busy it is. The ladies working were nice and answered questions and also made great recommendations. I'm not sure I ever had good matcha until visiting Matcha Mood. Actually, I would say that I very much did not like it; it always seemed gritty in texture and grassy in flavor. Clearly that's now how it's actually supposed to taste. Enter Matcha Mood, Maine's first matcha bar, and the very place that will also change your mind should you have doubts or previous bad experiences. I wasn't shy about my reservations with matcha the first time I came, and they were very patient, kind, and full of explanations about what to expect from each of their drinks (even catering to my vegan requests). In the end, I chose an iced Kuro Mitso with oat milk (this is a very balanced latte with both a delightful blend of rich brown sugar sweetness and earthy matcha). Immediately this became a new favorite. AND This is one of the best caffeinated drinks in the city. For reference: it was not as sweet as most of what I've had at Starbucks. If you're a person who likes a splash or two of flavored creamer in your coffee, for example, this won't be far off from that. Regarding that distinctive matcha flavor... I didn't really notice it, to be honest! I haven't stopped thinking about it since I got it. If parking was a bit easier and I didn't work from home, I'd probably be stopping at Match Mood at least once a week to get it! Wow. As someone who has long since been obsessed with matcha, Matcha Mood has the best matcha--dare I say, ever? First off, their menu is awesome. I tried their iced purple matcha, which has ube, taro, and lavender flavors, as well as their pumpkin matcha. Although I think I have to give up on taro as a flavor as I don't think it's for me, the drink was incredibly pretty to look at. As for the pumpkin matcha? Holy moly. An iced matcha with pumpkin cold foam? Unbelievably good. Pumpkin cold foam at any time of the year? You've got to be kidding me. if I could inject this drink into my veins, I would. The interior is just darling, filled with pink and green pastels, seasonal decor, and a small counter that overlooks Commercial Street. Owned by a duo of sisters originally from Thailand, Matcha Mood is a must-visit for those wanting a cutesy cafe experience. I actually order the brown sugar matcha and add coffee jelly, and all I can say is you're welcome... it's a must try! Today I ordered the coconut water matcha which I've had before, and it was just sooo fabulous. The fresh coconut they put in the drink tasted incredible. i love this place. the decor, vibes, and drinks. i was visiting portland for the week and i love matcha. when i saw portland had a matcha spot, i had to quickly scurry my way here. i have tried the purple matcha, strawberry matcha, and kuro mitsu (did i mention how much i love matcha?). my favorite was the kuro mitsu! the matcha and brown sugar blend was amazing. my bf had the coconut cloud with matcha foam and he loved it. even i thought it was pretty good and i don't really like coconut. the workers are super sweet too i usually saw one person handling the orders and making the drinks. props to her because as people were coming, she was still able to take orders and make the drinks quickly and efficiently. i wish there was a spot like this in nyc! I am absolutely thrilled that this cute little matcha café opened up on Congress! As an Asian who has felt the void left by the closure of Bubblemaineia for years now, this is exactly what this city needed. I got an iced salted caramel matcha latte, and it was everything I was hoping it would be--sweet, milky, and balanced with a lovely matcha flavor and no bitterness. My sis-in-law got a hot matcha latte and also enjoyed it. I appreciated that you could see them whisking the matcha by hand. Even though I got this to go on a really chilly day in Portland, I drank every last drop. The café itself is adorable, though there are only a few seats inside. But it seemed small. And there wasn't a lot of foam. So it was just okay. There was plenty of seating which was nice. WiFi. No bathroom. Parking was right in front. Not sure I'll go back. But it was cute for a neighborhood coffee shop.

It seemed like a spot many regulars come to often as the workers appeared to know many people who came through! They have a bar with roughly 8 seats, along with some tables. With the back of the store having goodies to buy including candles, self-care items, wines, drinks, and more. Worth browsing before or after your drinks and food. We snagged two bar stools and were immediately greeted and served water along with a menu. All three staff members were friendly and made us feel welcome. Drink wise my wife got an iced mocha while I saw their drink special of the month on social media and had to try it. Named The Blue Rose with Butterfly pea flower, cardamom rose, whole milk, pebble ice and espresso on top. A photo-worthy beverage with a delicious flavor. I would keep coming back for this drink for sure if it were a permanent menu item! Food wise my wife and I both got a breakfast sandwich, only difference she got bacon while I got the impossible sausage. Well made and delicious sandwiches that would make us return as well. The commitment to the nautical theme is adorable, and all the clever drink names made the menu fun to read. I also love how many books and games they have available, it feels like a cozy little hangout spot you could easily lose track of time in. After having some of the bread prior to our meals at a few restaurants, we found out the bread is locally sourced at a sister business right around the corner from where ate the night before. There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!
