Black coffee and corn bread with fennel pollen
    Shell J.

I came here after reading that it's one of the rare wood-fired coffee roasters in the U.S., using a vintage Italian Petroncini and local hardwood for roasting. Naturally, I had to try the black coffee. It was bold and robust--just the way I like it. I also discovered a unique corn cake topped with cream and fennel pollen. The aroma alone was a treat, adding an unexpected yet delightful twist. The space is open and filled with light, offering a lovely view of the bay. The barista was warm and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Speckled Ax is a local a single origin coffee shop. The inside atmosphere is a vibe; open and bright while still having a cozy side. They also have outdoor seating. I got an iced latte which was pretty average (heavy on milk). Next time I'm inclined to try to current seasonal latte:the lowbush latte. Also it seems that their overnight oats must be good because I watched 4 people buy it.

Stopped here to meet a friend for coffee and it was just average. I got an iced latte which was very small and came out to $8 dollars with no flavoring. Even for Portland this is pretty pricey. They do have lots of seating areas and some pastries available which I didn't try. With all the coffee spots in Portland this wouldn't be my first choice.

Good beans but canned atmosphere. Touristy spot given its location. Has a chain like feel...not my cup of joe.

Ordered an americano which was reasonably priced. One size for drink options. I wasn't a fan of the taste of the roast and because of that I probably would not return. The espresso tasted a little muddy but had fruity and earthy notes.I did however like the vibe of the shop. Interior was spacious, clean bright and quiet. Order was made quickly.

Delicious pumpkin latte and a chocolate croissant.

A perfect place for a coffee and pastry. Customer service was excellent. The menu had so many choices. We will need to return and try a breakfast sandwich.

Just got off the boat and wanting a snack or coffee or tea before you begin your tour? THIS IS THE Best tasting coffee and chocolate chip cookie spot I've found! While the sandwiches looked really good, I just wanted a sugar fix with the coffee. Absolutely bight and cheerful with the modern décor. Exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff as the boat of over 4000 passengers descended upon the local community! Grab a seat at the counter along the front window to people watch, SO INTERESTING!

Stopped in here for breakfast on a cold end-of-October Friday morning. Ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sammich - with a cold brew. The place was pretty busy. While I was waiting for my food - I noted that the way the sun comes in the front windows in the morning is a bit overwhelming. The front of Speckled Ax is all massive glass windows. Blinding. No shades that I could see. Cold brew was average; the breakfast sammich was tasty! #SpeckledAx

Nice interior. The staff was friendly. They have a large selection of pastries, coffees and teas. The hot chocolate was kinda mid tho. I did love my PSL.

This had been our "go to" place every Thursday before we got the work day started. This past Thursday, August 24th was my last. The coffee had always been good... and the bakery (which isn't theirs) always delicious. But my goodness the level of moodiness from the staff member who took our order was so incredibly rude and dismissive it ruined the entire visit. This particular employee was never the nicest but was easy to overlook because the coffee was good and other employees were nice but this last visit she just went too far. We sat their so uncomfortable about how we were treated we ended our time there within 15 minutes.

The menu is relatively small in terms of flavors for their coffee, but what I had was delicious. They offer the bacon, egg and cheese on a gluten free option on a bed of greens and pickled onion and it was very yummy indeed. I also enjoyed my oat milk caramel latte. The price seemed a bit steep for the small.

Kenya Gatina AA - washed Batian Ruru with notes of blackberry, caramel, and orange zest

I visited the Thames location. The open space atmosphere was very bright and refreshing. Menu was quite particular in terms of beans origins and varieties. I had a lot of questions, but the employee helping me did not really know answers about the specifics on the board. So I just got what seemed healthy and tasty after a quick google of some details. I had the Kenya Gatina AA - washed Batian Ruru with notes of blackberry, caramel, and orange zest. It was far from my typical, and I can appreciate that the coffee was of a good quality, but my experience would've been much more enjoyable if I could've been directed to flavors more suited to my palate. Beautiful view and in an easy to find area!

Beautiful and spacious interior. Came in one morning for a specialty latte. The specialty latte itself was fine. It sounded complex with the ingredients but it came out mostly disappointing and just tasted like chocolate syrup in coffee, which was disappointing for the price I paid.

They advertise themselves as all day cafe/bar and market. The vibes were perfect with an overall cozy and welcoming feel. It seemed like a spot many regulars come to often as the workers appeared to know many people who came through! They have a bar with roughly 8 seats, along with some tables. With the back of the store having goodies to buy including candles, self-care items, wines, drinks, and more. Worth browsing before or after your drinks and food. We snagged two bar stools and were immediately greeted and served water along with a menu. All three staff members were friendly and made us feel welcome. Drink wise my wife got an iced mocha while I saw their drink special of the month on social media and had to try it. Named The Blue Rose with Butterfly pea flower, cardamom rose, whole milk, pebble ice and espresso on top. A photo-worthy beverage with a delicious flavor. I would keep coming back for this drink for sure if it were a permanent menu item! Food wise my wife and I both got a breakfast sandwich, only difference she got bacon while I got the impossible sausage. Well made and delicious sandwiches that would make us return as well. I do wish they would have been a little bigger though. If our visit today was any indication of the typical my wife and I would gladly return! Friendly service in a great setting with well made food and drinks. Need to return to give their cocktails a try! A standout space in Portland.

I was really intrigued by the rye and caraway muffin, and I love a good pastrami. Unfortunately, the thin pastrami was a bit chewy. If there is a meat spectrum that ranges from jerky to moist and tender (such as Sam LaGrassa's), it was too close to jerky. With plenty of butter and melted cheese, it was pretty greasy, though the flavor was enjoyable. I was happy to try it, and my wife really enjoyed the complex Como Se Dice Buon Giorno, with prosciutto, hash brown, banana peppers, etc. Next time, I'd probably grab a package of their English Muffins to bring home and create my own egg sandwich, but it's a quaint neighborhood spot worth checking out if you're in the area.

After having some of the bread prior to our meals at a few restaurants, we found out the bread is locally sourced at a sister business right around the corner from where ate the night before. There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!
