    Love this! Coffee by Design

We just dropped in here to check out their coffee. We ended up with two cold brews which were awesome. They had a lot of great looking pastries, and the atmosphere was comfortable. The service was fast. Really no complaints. We brought home two bags of their coffee and my partner has purchased more online since we've been home! Loved being able to see the roasting area.

What an experience to have in a short amount of time! We stopped along the way shortly after dinner for coffee and pastries. Staff member was so charming and welcoming!! The staff connected with each and every one of us in our group. There are seating options in and outside. My most memorable part of this visit will be the burlap coffee bean bags that I was able to take home back to TX. They only ask for a small donation but allowed myself and my bff to take as many we wanted or would fit in my suitcase lol This place is special for sure and I hope you are able to enjoy it as much as I did!! Happy Yelping!

You can't see the coffee (Ubuntu dark roast), but it was delicious.

Fact: I have never had coffee by accident. Fact: I'm horrible at adding dairy to coffee. Opinion: Even with my overpouring blunder, my iced coffee at Coffee By Design was fantastic--in an astonishingly bold coffee way, not a coffee milkshake way. Dark roast plus a shot of espresso withstood the dairy onslaught admirably and wonderfully. And so began my first visit to a place I should have hit years ago. It's an industrial park kind of setting, but parking is easy, whether in CBD's lot or the lot across the street, or around the corner on Fox Street. Inside, the place is cozy and funky, with comfortable seating, interesting artwork, and a display case of pastries with the day's four available roasts also on display. I was so impressed I came back early the next day for a hot coffee, going with Ubuntu, an unusual dark roast with deep coffee flavor, a bit of sour, and a roasty quality that hit hard without tasting burnt. Delicious. Had that one black (it's always hot coffee black, cold coffee with dairy for me). Cookie with my coffee was soft, bendable, and had flavors of caramel and espresso. Enjoyable. Delightful staff. I often like new-to-me coffee places, but never like this. Coffee By Design really grabbed me. Two coffees, one hot, one cold, both impressive, and I can't wait to go back.

Good spot. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Beans roasted right there. Coffee was very good. Service was fast. We enjoyed it.

Great coffee shop find in Portland! Really nice, open space, with plenty of seating (along with some seating outside). Counter staff were really friendly and prompt. The lattes were good, the espresso was strong and not bitter like many of the other shops in the area. We tried a rosemary parmesan scone also. Delicious! Prices were in line with similar places.

The is the second Coffee By Design location in Portland that I visited during my vacation (The first location - I gave 5 stars). I ordered a cold brew. While I was waiting, I noted there is a lot of space and seating inside to sit and hang out, and enjoy one's beverage, break out the MacBook Pro or iPad - and work. It was rather warm inside that morning - uncomfortably so for my taste - so instead of hanging out - as I had initially planned to do and work for a bit - I headed on out. Cold brew was decent - but I prefer a Dunkin' or a Starbucks cold brew - compared to this one. There is very little parking outside - I had to navigate a rather large puddle getting in and out of my car - as it was the only parking space available. #CoffeeByDesign

Very cute place! Loved the garage door concept. Coffee was yummy and also had a sweet treat (honey glazed donut). I'm not a big coffee drinker but will be back.

Ample parking on the side. We ended up here by accident but loved it! Tried their caramel latte with almond and its to die for! Also great honey glazed donuts! Excellent service as well :)

Seeing their seasonal (Valentines) specials on social media really sold us on coming in. It was not that busy when we came in and took no time at all to order and receive our drinks. The baristas were friendly and the spot is definitely a welcoming to everyone space. It seemed like a good spot for those interested to spend time on the computer doing some work or those wanting to watch the world walk by out the windows. The overall vibes were nice enough and I don't have anything overly negative about it but enjoy some other local spots more. It is a thin long space which maybe contributed to that feeling. Also secondly I think it leans a little more towards generic coffee shop. Drink wise my wife and I typically are iced coffee drinkers no matter the weather but with the walking around in the cold made us want that hot coffee to warm us up. I went with their Salted Banana Foster while my wife got the Cherry Cobbler Au Lait. Both were solid drinks to give us that warming feeling inside and delivered good flavor without being too overpowering. Arabica will be a coffee shop I will consider revisiting in Portland it just may not be my first choice.

In the basket was a 12-ounce bag of ground coffee from Maine's Katahdin Coffee Company. After a few cups, I realized I was drinking some of the very best coffee I ever had in my long coffee drinking life. It had been a very long time since we used ground coffee, because we converted to K Cups years ago (don't hassle me about the environment because we empty out and recycle all those plastic pods). We used one of those "make your own K Cup" plastic/mesh baskets that was banished to a kitchen cabinet for many years, scooped in a few spoonfuls of Katahdin and brewed it in our K Cup machine. My Katahdin coffee was a Medium/Dark variety known as "Baxter Blend". The flavor ran rings around everything else we have in the house. Yes, it was a zillion times better than what I normally drink. Katahdin is sold in quite a few Maine grocery stores and through their website. The website has offerings in 10-ounce, 12-ounce, and 2-lb bags, with choices of ground or whole bean across a few different flavors including Breakfast Blend, Breakfast Blend Decaf, Baxter Blend, French Roast, Maine Whoopie Pie, Hazelnut and Maine Blueberry Pie. Yes, we will be sending out a mail order as soon as we use up every last ground of coffee in that 12-ounce bag.

Lucas Roasting Company is a small bisiness tucked away in Wolfboro. Pretty standard coffee drinks but #IYKYK - some of the best coffee comes from small roasting companies. I ended up with a delicous iced coffee and took some canned nitro back with me to CT. This year - again we hiked up (and down) Mount Roberts but this year it was H O T - so it was a no brainer where to head to for some caffine and cooling off. This year I met who I think was one of the owners who gave me the origin story (they are originally from VA) and told me that they have been open for a bit over 3 years. There was no cold brew in the cooler but this time it was a Nitro Cold Brew that was ordered and consumed before we made it back to our lodgings. I'm not entirely sure if they're open to the public normally, but part of me hopes they are (or would consider it at least two or four times a year). This is a beautiful space that should be celebrated and used as frequently as possible.
