I love shack 512 . It's a nice spot if you like scenic winding road drives a place to relax with a cold beverage while you watch boats and jet skis wiz bye! Parking isn't too difficult but it is limited so if it's packed you'll have to park across the street and walk down a steep hill . The restaurant itself is down bellow the parking and you have two choices to get down there . One , you can pick a walking trail that isn't really that bad or depending on your abilities an elevator at the end of the parking lot if your unable to walk a trail . Personally I walk down the trail and come back up in the elevator. Important info on the elevator , if it's not at the level you are on you obviously call it by pressing the button ,but if it is on your level you have to open the sliding doors with the handles and when you get in make sure they are closed all the way or the elevator won't move . If you press the button when it's on your level you will send it down or up and have to wait for it to return . I only say this because I've seen tons of people push the button when it's already at their level thinking it's for the doors to open and then have to wait forever for it to return . Shack 512 has great appetizers to pair those Piña colada's or cold beers with and my personal favorite the fried shrimp as an entree. Most entrees other than the Texas Alfredo come with your choice of two sides. The kids menu has all the usual pickings from chicken tenders ,cheeseburgers and Mac n cheese to choose from . The waitstaff is super friendly and always check up on you . I do like to come on a weekday afternoon with my wife and have a few frozen alcoholic beverages and some chips and queso . It's a nice spot to chill out and people watch or when you just want to relax from work . The place isn't hard to find with Google maps or whatever GPS you use but please drive safe on the way too and from as the roads turn into one lane both ways and very winding . I highly recommend trying this place for the ambiance or just relaxing if you haven't been here . At least 10 tables open and bartender said seat yourself. We did. One with a view. Waitress came over and made us move as far away from the water as she could. What a pleasant surprise & a great discovery! We went on a tour and met at Shack 512. We didn't get a chance to dine at Shack 512 because our tour came back later than their closing time, but we were able to grab drinks before we left. The cocktails were tasty, and the service was friendly. Of course, the views of the lake were beautiful (albeit water's a little low)! Taking the short elevator ride down to the restaurant level from the parking lot, instead of the stairs, made the experience even more fun. We felt like we were really on an island getaway with this discovery! We'll definitely be coming back for a meal and will time it during sunset for the whole experience! read more

3 for the food and drinks 4 given because of the view - so pretty and relaxing. Right over the water. Where? Go to the rail and follow the sign for the restaurant/nature walk. Its a very, very short walk to the restaurant through some pretty trees and big stone steps/stairs. I caution any ladies (or men) not to wear heels to this spot. Food - A bit sad that the vegetarian options are very limited. You have one option on the menu which is the veggie burger. I wish it were a beyond or impossible burger instead. Food in general here was average, not too creative or flavorful. Didn't feel that fresh. Staff is friendly and checked in to make sure we didn't need more drinks etc. Parking is a bit limited if it's the weekend- you may have to go into a rocky parking lot with tons of potholes. If you're car has good suspension great but if you have a stingray you'll have trouble parking. Id come back here for a drink and fries to sit by that view. I have been to a lot of dock side restaurants and many of them would be strong candidates for Kitchen Nightmares and not because they were not making money. This place was great, but based off of previous experiences with other dock side restaurants, amazing! Food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Only complaint is they do not accept reservations. Kind of a pain with a big group, but I understand. We had the nachos and the three dips appetizers, delicious! As shown in the photo below, I got the chicken tenders. So good that I got them both times I went. I dipped them in wing sauce the first time and then plain the second time. Had I known they had a spicy Cane's style dip I would not have gotten them dipped in wing sauce the first time. Will I be back? Without a doubt when I return to Lake Travis. read more

This is a recommendation from a friend and we went on Memorial Day. No waiting, and very prompt service. Loved the food. There's a small hike (a set of stone stairs) to reach the restaurant which adds to the charm. You can drive to the restaurant, but parking is on the side of the road and very few. The hike seemed to be a better option. We ordered the coconut battered shrimp, 3's company, Mac and cheese kids meal and the Lakeside s'mores. Everything was yummy! The view is amazing, without the crazy crowd you see in Oasis or Ski shores cafe. The only thing I would mention is there were not much options for vegetarians/vegans. read more

So excited to find this place. If you are looking for a good view and cool atmosphere, this is it. Felt like a vacation spot! Our new Staycation spot :). The parking is a little difficult. They have parking on the other side of the road in a parking lot. Be careful driving in and out, very steep. They do have parking closer if available. The walk down to the restaurant is beautiful. Service was good. She checked on us often. It wasn't packed which was nice to not have to worry about that. And we didn't have to wait. The only bummer was my food wasn't great. I got the hamburger with cheese. Very dry, no taste/bland, small in size. My bf's food wasn't great either. I'll def be going back. This has got to be my worst meal in the last 2 years. The food was absolutely foul. It tasted as if they got the guacamole from the discount section at the grocery store. The salsa that came with this was inedible. After reading the reviews, I choose to get chicken tenders to be safe. It was a undercooked chicken patty. The sauces tasted so bad. Hand breaded and butterflied, they had a very nice texture and flavor. The shoestring potatoes were excellent. The steak kabobs were very good as well. Good flavor and tender. I think the food is probably the best of any place with a view in the area. It was fine but if there had been no view, we wouldn't go there to eat. The service was good and the view was beautiful. If you've got guests from out of town, this is a good place to take them. Parking is quite difficult. You either have to park in an allocated lot and walk down (and then back up) a very steep path or try to find a spot closer. Those spots are scarce. read more

Updating my review based on our latest visit this past Sunday. I want to preface my comments by saying we are 512 fans, are thrilled that they are open, and will visit again. If management is monitoring social media I would like to bring to your attention our experience with your hostesses. We arrived and were told there would be a 30-minute wait. Fully expected due to the seating restrictions. I asked the hostess if I could obtain drinks at the bar. I was told the bar is closed. I noticed that others sitting outside waiting had drinks. I politely asked how they received drinks. I was told rather rudely that someone will come by. 15 minutes later my wife asked the same hostess the same question and received the same rude response. 10 minutes later a server did arrive and we were able to order drinks. At the 1 hour plus mark, our table for 2 was ready. The worse table in the restaurant. This table is directly adjacent to the entrance and next to the hostess station. I politely stated we would wait for the next available table as we could see a number of other tables being cleared and cleaned. One of the hostesses said loud enough for us to hear "they refused the table" and shot us a dirty look. Well, 3 tables were cleaned and ready to be used but we had to wait another 10 minutes (like we were in timeout) before we were seated. And yes I did hear the hostess say with a snarl "you can seat them". Yes, we should have just left and yes under "normal" circumstances I would have responded to this rude treatment. But this was a day out for us. I would like to note that our server, Sydney, saved the day. She was polite, professional, and even with a limited menu, we enjoyed our lunch on a beautiful lakeside day. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful... 5 stars for their food, service, beautiful views, and chill environment. Feel free to dress up for date night or pull up to their dock in your flips and tank top. As others have mentioned parking is a tad cumbersome and if you have mobility issues you can be dropped off right by their tram and be transported to almost their entrance. If no issues then take their nature trail down and burn off those calories climbing back up to the parking lot. Oh, yea on a hot day even though there are fans and misters it does get hot. At sundown, the garage doors go up and there's a nice breeze off the lake/river. Onto the food. Start off with their bacon, shrimp, jalapeno poppers. the accompanying sauce is sweet as sugar. If you like Mexican martinis order them spicy, one of the best I've had. I had their steak kabob served perfectly medium rare with 2 sides. My steak was cooked perfectly and the BBQ sauce on the side was a great addition. Plus 1 had their St Louis ribs and they were fall off the bone delicious. Great recommendation from a friend. We are out here on Vacay and wanted a restaurant with good food and views! We were a party of 6 and was greeted by a friendly hostess and sat within 5minutes. It' was a little warm early evening but they had misters and fans blowing which made sitting out in the lake patio very comfortable. They were pretty busy but our server got to us in good time and drinks came out quick. Our food was also all brought out at the same time which was great. We had 3 orders of the Texas Alfredo with chicken it was really tasty!! The grilled salmon with the glaze on the side and mash potatoes did not disappoint. My daughter had the steak kabobs which was just okay. I would order something else. Ended the meal with s'mores to share which was super cool! Sydney was a great waitress (we loved her suggestion of sharing a chocolate pie for dessert YUM!) and Adam makes an awesome skinny margarita. Great view of Lake Travis (as with most places on the lake you will pay little extra for the alcoholic drinks as you enjoy that view). Parking and walking down can be a little tricky for elderly I imagine (but there is a lift avail) just don't park in the reserved marina lot. The drive to the place is fun, and the deck is great. The food however is not impressive at all. Hamburger was dry and lacked seasoning. Chicken and waffles also lacked seasoning and tasted like it was fried in old oil. Service was ok. I think this restaurant has the capacity to be so much better than what it is. I went there this weekend for brunch. Ordered guacamole but was told they are out of chips. I was told they were busy from the night before and that the owner was on his way to deliver chips but that never happened. Shouldn't he/she have taken care of that before opening at 11am on a Sunday morning? I then ordered lettuce wraps, but they were out of 'lettuce cups'. Ugh. So we ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer as our third choice. Tasted like frozen goods put in the fryer. The server who was amazing felt awful and found us some spare chips that were reserved for the nachos and finally brought us the guacamole I was hoping for. Nice. However, once it was delivered I honestly couldn't even eat it. Did it come out of a bag and expired? Gross. What a cute little gem on lake Travis! My parents were in town from Florida, and I wanted to take them somewhere with a view. We live in cedar park, and I was beyond excited to find something so beautiful so close to home. Menu seemed like good bar fair, and the portions were huge. Margarita was excellent as well. Absolutely fantastic service! My family and I eat at Shack 512 consistently and we are always satisfied, but our servers this weekend went above and beyond. My mom ordered salmon, and it was undercooked for her preference. She didn't make a fuss, because she doesn't like to make a scene, but when our server picked up her plate and noticed that she had a lot of salmon left, he asked if it was undercooked. She said yes, and he said that he would take care of it. He comped the salmon without us asking. My whole family was very impressed that he was so observant to ask about the salmon, without us saying anything to him. All of our food was delicious, I highly recommend the Texas Alfredo and the key lime pie. I had grabbed a box to take my leftovers. We came by boat, and when I got back onto the boat, I realized that I had left my food. When I started going back up the ramp, I realized that our server was running down with my box. I was stunned. Truthfully, this was some of the best service that my family and I have received in a long time, so I truthfully cannot recommend Shack 512 enough. We can't wait to come back! read more

Beautiful place to eat! The tram is fun to ride down from the parking lot. Parking can be a bit tricky. The 512 punch is great, but If your looking for something less sweet go with the 512 margarita. We waited over an hour for a table, but with a drink in hand, a sunset to watch, and some good company plus places to sit the wait wasn't bad. The hostess brought us out some free chips and queso/salsa/guacamole for our wait. Everything is a little pricey, but not crazy expensive. I got the coconut shrimp basket for dinner. The shrimp was perfect! The orange sauce for dipping was a little more spicy than I would of liked, but eventually the burning just took over so I got used to it. read more
