Was I disappointed that I forgot the gift card at home on the counter? Not more than a minute after we walked up to the counter. The woman who helped us is a bright white cloud in the Texas sky. She was so sweet and folded effortlessly into my conversation with my husband about what looked good, what we were craving, and what we were looking for. She saved us both! We wouldn't have experienced the Pirata Tacos (HUGE) and the Achiote Smoked Chicken Salad, had we not met her. Zak was going to get a Fajita Taco and I was leaning toward the Pulled Pork or a Smash Burger. Boy, were we wrong! They are MEAT MASTERS! Epic. The word Adaptogen sounded to me like a CBD substance. My barista assured me that an adaptogen was a nontoxic substance from a plant or mushroom extract. Thus, I decided to try this latte. While the latte was pleasantly refreshing, I could not taste a distinctive mud honey. Thus, I decided to purchase the latte but not the mud honey. This bistro was cute with the trappings of homemade goodies such as cookies, pastries and other snacks. I ordered a 4 inch essentially vegetarian sandwich. They have 4"-8" and 12" subs available and lots of choices-with unique names -mine was called "the Griefo" along with a make your own option. My sandwich had a couple of different types of lettuce, along with cucumber, red onion, and dill pickles (I requested) on a jalapeño cream cheese base. I was given a stand with the picture on it, and was advised the sandwich would be brought to me . After ordering my sandwich, I stepped across to the bar where I chose to sit on the outside barstools. The bar seating was quite full, but it was a beautiful day with a healthy breeze, so I was quite comfortable. The young lady behind the bar was very prompt in coming by to ask me if I would like a beverage and so I ordered a strawberry margarita. (a note.: they do not have frozen drinks at this time). She advised me it was the first time she had made a strawberry Version Of a margarita-but she did a great job and it was on point!!! shortly I was served my sandwich. (I didn't mention that there are options for bread for your sandwich, and I chose the herb and garlic.) I don't know where they get their bread, but it's delicious. The young lady who was helping me couldn't find my order, but then I thought to tell her I phoned it in and they kept those orders in a different area up by the cash register. Sure enough there it was ready and waiting. The 8" White Widow was made exactly as requested. My son said the chicken breast in the sandwich had the best seasoning and flavor he had ever had. Next was the 4 inch Pacific blue which is a tuna melt(fresh tuna salad with cheddar cheese) and toasted too perfection. It also had to be altered, but was made just as requested. I had ordered the Griefo w/jalapeño cream cheese along with all the veggies-asked for pickles to be added, which they were! We had ordered one of the desserts, a "Gooball" which was similar to a rice crispy, treat with peanut butter, added and shaped into a ball.... how could that not be delicious???? We were more than satisfied with our sandwiches and divided up the Gooball so we all could have a taste. The perfect bite of sweetness at the end of a meal.!! It had a mint accent which was delicious, and combined with a tajin rim, the perfect summer drink. Don't worry, if you don't like mint, they will happily leave it out. My friends got an espresso martini, customized without baileys or dairy, and enjoyed it for a bar that doesn't seem like they would even have espresso martinis. One odd note that I did notice is that the handwashing sink for the restrooms is outside of the restroom and around the corner both inside and outside. I especially love that it's kid-friendly, which is something you don't always find at breweries. It makes the place feel more relaxed and welcoming. The food is decent, and the beer is delicious. Their beers have that true craft beer taste, which is something I really enjoy. I've tried many of their beers and have brought friends here to hang out as well. My favorite so far is the coffee stout. Overall, Slackers Brewing is a great local spot with good beer, a friendly vibe, and a welcoming atmosphere.
