Shabu Zone is my favorite AYCE hot pot in Houston! They have fast friendly service & their buffet is always stocked and clean! I normally go for their tonkotsu or basic soup base. As for meat their number 11 & 5 is literally all I eat (just preference, but all other meat is good too!) I really enjoy their seafood options as well, such as their oysters, shrimp, clams, & fish. They recently added cooked bulgogi that you can order (included in ayce) and it's a new fav! Plus they have a dessert bar and ice cream! My friends and I waited an hour on a Saturday night for dinner. The front counter was a hot mess so I really felt for them. We had a party of 9 and they said if we wanted, we could sit at an 8 seat table but one person would have to share the hot pot with someone else (we asked if that would be discounted since this place does individual pots and they said no) - we declined and decided to wait longer for two tables. After we sat, service was great. Our guy had an excellent memory and remembered all the meats we wanted and all our soup bases to refill. Dinner is $31.99 and lunch is $21.99 which isn't bad at all. It was 101 yesterday in Houston, the thought of going to have hot pot made my husband think I was crazy (I am). It was our first time, it won't be our last. He admitted it was a wonderful experience. The first thing the staff told us was to start by cooking our seafood. We had blue crabs, whole shrimps eyeballs and all, scallops, mussels and catfish. The broth came ice cold and as it comes to a boil the seafood cooks. Then you go to select your other ingredients, I went a little crazy with the tofu and different kinds of mushrooms. It all was so fresh and tasty. There are 11 different kinds of meats to select and all of them are all you can eat and great quality. We ended our meal poaching an egg in our remaining broth and noodles which we saved to cook last so we wouldn't get too full on just noodles. Shabu Zone staff is wonderful, great customer service, extremely helpful and friendly. They walked us through every step and for that we are grateful. We don't live in Houston but will come back to the zone whenever we come back. My family loves this place which is how I got introduced to it. If you don't go at opening, there will be a long line very soon after so I suggest going at opening. The staff work together and are always friendly. The sitting area is spacious and comfortable. The line formation can be chaotic since there is no guided direction. I didn't enjoy the food as much on my first try but it was most likely because I expected cooked food items too but everything required boiling in the hot pot. It wasn't many kid friendly simple food options that didn't require cooking. After a few visits, I was able to get used to their menu items and found some fav items but still felt somewhat limited compared to other places. It is an awesome deal that the meat is unlimited. The ice cream options are unique such as red bean and green tea which are some of my favs to combine with coffee. They also offer gummy bears at the dessert station. Tried Shaba Zone for the first time since I was in the area. Everything was good, the spicy broth was not really spicy, just ok. Plenty of variety for everyone. The shrimp was head on and huge, cleaned pretty much. I had a pot and a half of broth with plenty of vegetables and only two meats for flavor. It was worth the price of $21.99 for lunch. They had honeydew melon and watermelon for fruit choices, and 6 flavors of ice cream for dessert. I would recommend coming here if you like to eat. Our servers were all great and very attentive. The only thing I didn't understand was why the tip was picked up by someone else and taken to the register instead of our server who earned it and took care of us. When we were getting ready to leave there was a line out the door and it was just a little after 1 pm. Very busy place. I have been in awe of this place since my sorority sister brought me here for lunch a couple months ago. We have been back 3 times since then and the waiter remembers me and my meat selections each time, it's awesome! You select your style of broth and they put it in the hot pot at your seat. You go up to the buffet for seafood, veggies and sauces and the waiters bring you plates of thinly sliced high quality meats. Solid spot for AYCE hot pot except for the heavy amount of MSG in the broth. They have a variety of meats, toppings, dipping sauces, and last but not least pickled vegetables which I think set them apart from other restaurants. Really enjoy the wide range of seafood offered, including clams, oysters, snails, and crabs. The ice cream section for dessert is also a plus. Sadly, one big downside for Shabu Zone is that their broth contains way too much MSG, and this has been a constant problem. I solo dined today since I just moved from NY to Texas. Was craving some soupy goodness. Found this gem on Yelp and decided why the heck not. They are very prepped for this pandemic. Check your temperature upon walking in through the door, and they give you gloves for when you go to collect the food. That's pretty dope. I had two ladies checking in on me everytime. Never had two servers, but this was kind of cool since they were so nice and made sure I was okay and drink was always refilled. I really liked this place. This was my first time at all you can eat hotpot. I was initially a bit skeptic as it might seem expensive for a vegetarian person but then I learnt they have a veggie all you can eat pricing as well, so it was much cheaper than the meat option. There are 2 veggie broth options and then you need to refill your plates yourself from the veggie counter and make your sauce too. Few things that made me happy was varieties of mushrooms, veggie dumplings, corns and veggies, I only wish if there were more tofu options. Right now they have fresh tofu, but I wish if they also had fried tofu, or other options in it like soy protein or fake meat. They also had a couple of dessert options and I got mango and matcha icecream. You have about 6 options for the broth and get to order a total of 6 meats at a time for the table. Personally I enjoyed the cuts of meat they offered. I love the selections of meats, noodles, sauces, side dishes, etc. They're usually pretty busy whenever I go but since the restaurant is so big, I feel like the line moves pretty quick. Their staff are efficient of getting customers items ordered so you might not have a single server designated for your table but that's why the service is so quick! One thing I would note is to make sure that you're cooking your seafood thoroughly. I have known people that have gotten sick due to their seafood so I would be cautious about that. read more

The service was terrible. I went with my 18-month-old child and my husband. I asked for an extra pot, but there was no soup, so I used bottled water to cook some food for my son. In the end, my son didn't eat anything. However, towards the end of the meal, they wanted to charge us for three people because we used three pots, even though the menu clearly stated that children under 4 years old would not be charged. Also when we requested an extra pot, no one told us we would be charged an additional fee. Even the manager, when arguing with us, had a terrible attitude. Up until now, I have only had hot pot once in my life and that was in a high end restaurant in Vegas. I thought it would be hard to top that experience, but Shabu Zone came very close and for a fraction of the price. This was my second attempt coming here actually. The first time was a cold, Friday night and there was no end in sight for us to be seated so we left. This time was a cold, Thursday night and we were basically seated right away even though we were a party of 11. This place is huge with plenty of room. It is just so popular that there is almost always a wait at peak times. Customer service was excellent. We never had to ask for refills of anything. The price point is higher at dinner because you have a bigger variety of meat to choose from. What's cool about this place is that you have your own individual hot pot so everyone can get a broth to their liking. You start off by choosing your broth base. I went with what I know and got the spicy original house soup. Within minutes of it hitting the warmer, I had a nice boil going. We asked for all the meats and they all came out quick. In the meantime, we hit up the buffet line and got a little bit of everything. The line consists of seafood, fresh veggies, noodles, eggs, sauces, and a variety of other meats. I dumped a little bit of everything in my broth and got to cooking. It is a great way to socialize and have a fun little night doing something different. The broth was flavorful and everything that came out of it was delicious. I made my own concoction of sauces and it totally enhances the flavor of the meats. I added some aromatics to the broth to give it a little extra flavor as well. We ended the meal with some dessert to satisfy our sweet tooth. The dessert bar had fruit, candy and ice creams. WOW. Throughout college my friends and I ate hot pot frequently at random places around Bellaire and we really enjoyed it. Eventually we just started doing hot pot at home because it was as good as the restaurants we were visiting and it was cheaper this way so might as well save some money right? Shabu Zone is different. The quality and variety of food is far beyond what you'd be able to achieve at home by yourself. On top of that the servers were extremally accommodating with our large party of people and made sure to ask if we needed more meat or drinks any time we were out. As someone who loves hotpot, this is my fav place to get it ! Its all you can eat so come hungry. And come early bc it gets really busy esp on weekends. You get your own individual hotpot which I appreciate. My go to broths are either the sukiyaki or spicy house soup (not too spicy). The vegetable & seafood selection is immaculate. Theres so many choices & its buffet style so you can get as much or little as you want. The meats are all quality. I've tried all the meats but the #1, 5, 6 & 11 are the best. When you're running low on meat, the waiters will ask if you want more and quickly bring out another plate. They have at least 15 options for sauces for you to mix and match. I would have given 5 stars if it was the 1st time we went. That warranted 5 stars. This time I brought my whole family because the 1st time was so much fun, clean and yummy. Maybe because it wasn't a weekend we came and spring break but it was packed at 1 and I mean packed. I would give 3 stars for cleanliness especially after eating here and reading a review below us about food poison I brushed it off to them not cooking well but then from my whole party I was the only one that night with an upset tummy. Idk what it was maybe I didn't cook it well enough or something went bad but I was sicky for a couple days right after our meal. Just me though. I suspect the ice cream since there was a huge line and everyone's arms were digging into it. BUT again only me lol I am still giving it 4 generous stars because this place is fun and lunch is a good deal. I love how you can get everything you want. We were hungry and had to go to one of our favorite hotpot places. We were excited that they had new items that you could choose! They now have conch and a had a lot of Kim chi/pickled vegetable selections. Even thought the restaurant was crowded they were quick to refill all of the selections. They also offer a large menu of specialty meats that you can also accompany your hotpot. There's a large amount of seafood and vegetable selections for hotpot. We are never disappointed when we come here. Their options of making your own sauce is one the largest options we've seen. I wasn't aware where Shabu Zone was located until I was searching for a place for lunch at Hong Kong City Mall, quite hungrily. I saw the ad when was researching at a pho restaurant on the opposite of mall. Ah. It's just a walk away, not driving across town. From inside of the mall, there are 2 small signs on both sides of standard door. I saw a for-hire sign on the door which gave me an impression as this is in fact Shabu Zone. So we walked in. We saw restrooms and people eating. I looked around, no one seemed to care about us as we saw servers stood around. So, I asked, "where is the front door? I think we entered from your back door." Ok. That's start over. We arrived at the front door and asked to be served. Hostess took us to almost where we came from. Those servers came to our table and laughed, "ah you are back." I didn't like the format as they brought the meats and other stuff in buffet line. There were surges of people lined up at the buffet. I got spoiled eating at 75 Hot Pot & BBQ. I can't get consistent sauce mix flavors at Shabu Zone. While shabu is Japanese, I believe there shouldn't be a lot of sauces. But half of condiments were premixed sauce. Vegetable broth was made from vegetables but not kelp, as Japanese does. Waitstaff was very cordial but other employees weren't. Those who stocked the buffet items were rushing, I considered them rude. One busboy used same towel wiped the floor on buffet counter. I came here on Saturday night with my husband, little brother and my cousin. We got here around 5:30 so luckily we were seated right away. By the time we got out of there at 7:30, there was a wait out the door, so get there early! The premise is all you can eat for $25 per person for two hours. On the menus on Yelp, you won't see the #11 meat which is the American wagyu beef belly. Basically after trying every single meat, our table decided that we were only going to order #11. Because there were 4 of us, we were allowed to order up to 8 plates of meat at a time. By the time we were done, we had over 80 plates of meat. Because the meat is sliced so thin, one plate is equivalent to a regular piece of beef. In addition to beef belly, I enjoyed the squid rings, blue crab and head on tiger shrimp (I ate 4 plate fulls of these items). The quality of the meat was 8/10 which is why I am giving a 4 star review. It was delicious with the pork tonkotsu broth. They had a variety of sauces and sides. They had sesame oil and salt that I used for my meat. I also had spicy ponzu with chili powder for my seafood. I got a bunch of crushed garlic that I added to my broth. I was told about Shabu zone from another yelper Raj K, As being the best hotpot spot in Houston and he was on point. I met a few yelpers here for dinner. Raj K, Zain R, Jason D. As this was my first time, Raj gave us a break down of all the items on the buffet, along with ordering procedures. We got all the beef items that were available on the menu to add to the pot. There was choices available for broth and I chose the fish broth per recommendation of my fellow yelpers, and it was a great choice. Next we all got up, and went to the actual buffet area to grab all the items. From various noodles, to all sorts of veggies, eggs, tons and tons of seafood. I was amazed at all the seafood that was available. The tiger shrimp n prawns, crab, scallops, squid, octo etc etc. We brought our items and slowly started stirring them in the pot. The servers also brought us soft rolls, that we rolled and made ourselves. We dined for a couple of hours at our pace and enjoyed the great convos. A very nice ayce hotpot place. They do close at 3pm for 2hrs to prep for dinner just fyi. Lunch was good here in my 1st visit. Clean salad bars with selection of usual veggies, seafood, noodles and fish cake . Broths were simple but honestly what you cook in is what you'll determine the flavors. Meat selection were limited on lunch, but still enough to go along. I like the fact they had a premade sauce selection so from there I'll add some extra to my liking. Shabu Zone is definitely THAT guy (restaurant.) I mean, dam. (This is written 3 weeks after our visit.) The inside is huge, clean, very well-lit, and very high ceiling. You won't feel congested and it's a miracle you don't carry too much of the smell considering the 100+ individual hot pot broths steaming in the air. PACKED on a TUESDAY lunch (if a place is packed on Tuesday for lunch, you know they have BUSINESS business.) The staff moves fast too. Mostly younger workers, service is fast and responsive, and they clean tables with equal speed. Now for the value. This place might be the definition of value. My fam of 4 ate AYCE at lunchtime and with tips, it was around $120. This is an AYCE consisting of clams, mussels, blue crab, various pork and beef meat options, your individual hot pot (~7 broth types), vegetables, noodles, topping bar to make your own sauce + their own specially made sauces, and a small fruit/ice cream bar. TL;DR - The value is so high it demands you try it at least once. All-you-can-eat, large variety of quality items, and most impressively, reasonable price ($22 lunch, $30 dinner.) Not even reasonable TBH...kind of a steal. T0Tes fab, 10/10. Bellaire's food variety is massive, but you must visit Shabu Zone if you like AYCE. read more
