Still tried and true, our favorite AYCE in Houston! Great price for AYCE, tasty broths, large and fresh offering of meat and seafood, produce, and sauces, restaurant is bright and comfortable, waitstaff is attentive and helpful.

Kev O.

I don't usually like to go for Shabu Shabu during the hot summers, but the family insisted taht they wanted to try this place, so I just followed....and I am truly glad I was convinced to come here as I must say, this was perhaps one of the best Shabu Shabu places I have ever tried. The place has a nice and modern casual, clean, very open and spacious interior.....and has a very impressive AYCE buffet spread of very fresh vegetables, seafood, and a good sauce station where you can create your favorite dipping sauce. All the fancier meats, are ordered off the menu. And, the best thing is, that you get to choose your own personal hotpot of soup in which to cook your ingredients.....ranging from the milder flavored vegetable soup, to miso flavored, all the way up to very spicy. Of course, I am not into spicy food and prefer to actually taste the freshness of my ingredients, so I went with the mildest vegetable soup, and was very happy with it. The huge variety of offerings is mind boggling, and a visual extravaganza! So much food everywhere! So, you really need to pace yourself and know what to pick or order first so as not to fill up unecessarily, or too soon. I don't eat beef, so mostly just enjoyed the chicken slices and seafood.....the chicken slices looked so thin when served raw, but once cooked, they actually plumped up to a wonderfully yummy thickness that went great with my saice concoction. The seafood, was equally excellent and delicious...especially the big shrimp that were so nice and plump....very fresh! Other than that, the quality of the ingredients is very fresh, the variety of AYCE offerings is huge and quite impressive, the choices of soup bases will satisfy any taste bud.....and all this, when combined with just the right self-concocted dipping sauce(s) mixture, will most definitely give one absolutely hot, fresh, and delicious tummy-filling meal. Furthermore, the service is excellent and we really enjoyed being attended to by our server....can't remember her name now, but she was just the sweetest, most helpful, and attentive server...however, it just so happened that she went on her break in the middle of our meal, and we just felt so lost without her. A very enjoyable experience...would love to come back here again during our next visit during the cooler months.

From walking in, the restaurant is huge and the servers are quick!!! I loved the range of options!!! But I just don't think I'm a hot pot person!

I took a break from Shabu Zone for a couple of years and gave it another try recently. I don't remember it being this good! I think their sauce bar has improved a lot. I'm big on sauce so I'm happy to see so many garlicky and spicy options. I'm a bit sad they got rid of their Korean noodles as those were my favorite, but the ramen noodles make a fine substitute. My favorite meat cuts are 5, 6, and 11. They're very thinly sliced so I order a lot at a time. My favorite broths are either miso for something light or tom yum for more of a flavorful kick. The lunch deal is too good to pass up! Their buffet of raw ingredients is diverse enough for someone to find something they like. I always get watercress and enoki mushrooms. The ice cream bar is also a nice way to end the meal. I'm a fan again!

Houston hot pot staple! I come here often and the service and quality is good. It does get busy on the weekends so come early or be prepared for a wait. Wide variety of meats, produce, and seafood. They have pre-made sauces that are yummy or a nice sauce bar selection. The buffet part can be congested at times so the weekdays are usually better. They also have ice cream and fruit for dessert!

Solid AYCE shabu!! They have so many toppings, quality meat options, and great service. There's usually always a good amount of people, especially during the weekends and holidays. I would say this is one of the best AYCE shabu spots!

- Individual pots (yay!) - Bland broths - Amazing sauce bar - Large selection of ingredients - Solid meats - Decent pricing - Quick and attentive service - Spacious and plenty of seating, but will be a wait to get a table on weekend evenings - Plays the same 5 YouTube Christmas remix songs on repeat. Please for the sanity of the customers and especially the workers, change up the music.

I've been going to Shabu Zone for years ever since they opened. This is one of my favorite AYCE hot pot places around town. The service is always good, and the restaurant is spacious and clean. It can take a while during weekend dinner rush, but it's definitely worth the wait. They also have reservations available. You each get your own mini hot pot with a broth of your choice. There is a huge selection of meats, buffet items, sauces, side dishes, desserts, and drinks, and the broths are always good. My favorite broths are the Sukiyaki, Spicy Original, and Tonkotsu, and my favorite cuts of meats are the #1 Certified Akaushi Wagyu Chuck Tender, the #5 Akaushi Wagyu Prime Chuck Eye, the #6 Shabu Zone Special Prime Rib, and the #11 Akaushi Wagyu Beef Belly. Everything is always delicious and flavorful. You definitely won't be disappointed.

Still our go to place for special occasions like Father's Day. Tonkatsu and wagyu meat all the way.

Cold winter weather commands for a warming meal like hotpot. A good hotpot meal in my opinion, consists of a flavorful soup base (my top priority), fresh ingredients, and the variety of ingredients. Shabu Zone checks all these boxes. There are 8 different soup bases to choose from, 11 different cuts of meat, huge selection of vegetables, a good number of seafood choices, and a small dessert area but with 7 different flavors of ice cream. There is also a sauce area! I got sukiyaki, which was yum. They had sweet potato filling rice cakes and cheese filling rice cakes, which I both loved. I had a filled meal. The restaurant is bright and inviting. Staff is always around to help. This meal at Shabu Zone definitely won't be my last visit.

Waiter was attentive and excellent. Was lucky to be seated next to the bar. The curry and minced wagyu meat were both delicious. There were options to order food snacks (shrimp tempura, sweet potato fries, chicken bites, fry mini buns). Dined with a party of 4. Chose the Silver set. Broth split between sukiyaki & tom yum. Included choice of gyokai zensai per person. Faves ranked (from basic set): salmon ceviche (best one), yuzu yellow tail w/ Asian pear, hokkaido scallop marry w/ fuji apple, & black garlic pepper tuna (least fave). From silver set, wagyu bone marrow was my fave. Wagyu tartare & wagyu nigiri were ok. Another one time selection was Japanese A5 wagyu - ribeye was DELICIOUS! Tried the Australian wagyu brisket and shoulder cut - they were alright. Kept ordering the unlimited Australian wagyu ribeye until we were full haha. Ended the night with more fry mini buns and ice cream (strawberry was the best imo). Can't wait to return again!

For context, I came on a relatively empty Sunday night well before closing. The milk tea dispenser was empty pretty much the entire 2 hours we were there. They also got rid of the black milk tea, so only jasmine is available now. I overheard another customer ask a worker about it, but the worker was very dismissive. The service used to be exceptional, but this time around, the workers (aside from our server, who was very friendly) were a bit standoffish and cold. I also did not receive my included sashimi dish until the very end of my meal, and I only received my water an hour after being there. The water also tasted very strange, almost fermented? (my friends' glasses were normal, so not sure what happened to mine). The bowls and cups were also not as clean as they used to be. Mikiya used to feel like an upscale dining experience, but I fear whatever changes they've been making in corporate or staffing decisions are having a negative impact. I really hope the service improves, it would be a shame to see Mikiya continue down this path!

The food was every bit as good. Houston also has an all-you-can-eat option, which I actually prefer. Instead of trying to predict your appetite and ordering everything at once, you can keep placing rounds throughout the meal. We took full advantage of that. The broths were just as rich and flavorful, the meats and vegetables were fresh, and everything tasted exactly how I remembered from Austin. Unfortunately... after we placed our final round of food, an uninvited dinner guest showed up. A whole ass cockroach decided it was his turn for hot pot. Not on the floor. Not scurrying across a wall. He confidently climbed onto our table and proceeded to do a full lap around the actual hot pot like he was making sure we ordered enough for everyone. At that point, dinner was over. Look... I live in Houston. I know we have roaches. But when one is comfortable enough to climb onto a customer's table in the middle of service, that's not something I can just shrug off. This one genuinely pains me because the food deserves so much better than a 3-star review. If I were rating the meal alone, it'd be an easy 5 stars. But sharing our table with a cockroach that looked like it had visited before knocked a couple stars off the experience. I really hope management gets the issue under control because I'd love a reason to come back. Until then... I'll happily make the drive to Austin.

Service was fast, and what seemed like a seemingly small building was actually bustling. We ordered the Best of Both Worlds option and requested the Spicy Bone Marrow along with the Tomato Broth; they complement each other quite well, with the Spicy Bone Marrow being our personal favorite. It is definitely spicy, but nothing that I couldn't handle. The Tomato Broth was delicious as well, but added a nice sweetness to our meal. We chose the Classic All-You-Can-Eat lunch deal, and ordered a plate of the Natural Prime-Aged Lamb, the Hand Sliced Beef Short Plate, the Marinated Garlic Beef, and the Pork Belly; I can't say I'm a huge fan of how they divided the meat selections, however, since I could get premium meat elsewhere without being limited. But overall, the meat was of decent quality, and the buffet offered various options. Compared to other hot pot places, they even had a section where you could serve yourself egg rolls, white rice/fried rice, and stir-fried noodles, though I can't speak to the quality... very much buffet-quality if you catch my drift, but still lovely nonetheless. Similarly, you can fetch your own iced drinks and dessert too. I do wish Happy Lamb's sauce station had special pre-made flavors or instructions for making them, much like Shabu Zone or Haidilao; sometimes I don't trust myself to freestyle my own sauce. There are some cross-contamination concerns as well, since there'd be about 4 tongs at foot/pants level, but at least 9 food options (e.g., noodles, dumplings, veggies) to choose from. Not sure if other people share the same sentiment, but I guess they all get boiled in the end anyway. Overall, it's a decent option if you're in Downtown Houston! But I wouldn't call Happy Lamb my go-to spot.

We told our waiter this is our first time to KPOT and he really did not explain anything on the menu or how many to order so we ordered two orders of the beef on spare rib and only two pieces came to the table which was not enough for one person let alone 3. Sometimes I will order the number 3 and 4 and it'll be really good, and other times it will be hard to eat. 2. I think that the noodle selection is missing like a handmade and hand pulled noodle.
