I've been here a few times during their lunch special for $19.99 and on the weekends where it's dinner pricing for $28.99. I usually order tonkotsu broth. Their broth is flavorful. For dinner pricing, if you want the most tender meats, get the short rib and top blade. Those two meats melt in your mouth. I've been to a lot of ayce hot pot and I wish this place had more options at the food bar. It's missing basic things other places have like spam and beef balls. Overall it's still a good value for what you get. Seapot is still my favorite ayce hot pot. read more

Shabu King has a self-service bar for sides, sauces, vegetables, fish balls/cakes, and carbs, so definitely pace yourself because it's so easy to go overboard and waste some food. Some things I was pleasantly surprised were on the menu: tteokbokki (yum), seaweed rice bowl that also had some nuttiness from sesame oil, rice paper, and spring roll wrappers! This touches my heart as someone who adores making wraps out of her food. :') I ordered the tom yum soup, which was honestly just okay and relied a lot on the lime flavor. I'd probably go for the spicy miso instead. Also got some fried chicken wings, which were nicely crunchy. Meat quality was good, but not the best I've ever had. This has got to be one of my new favorite hot pot places. They serve a variety of hot dishes, as well as a large assortments of veggies, and old cold seafood options to add to your broth. There's a self serve sauce bar so you can concoct your own dipping sauce. And the servers bring your broths and meat options out almost immediately. Some notable things off their hot menu that I enjoy getting are: the seaweed rice. It comes with a glove so you can mix everything real well. I was a regular at the previous Shabu place in this location (Little Dipper) so I was super excited to see Shabu King open up. We went on a Wednesday at 6pm and we got seated promptly. I like the Korean flare this shabu place offers, with seaweed rice and tteokbokki. After seating we chose our soup broths, ordered sides and meats, then went to help ourselves at the buffet. Buffet was very clean and organized, the only thing to note is they didn't have labels on all the food. Their noodle options were very expansive and I appreciated that since I am a noodle lover! Their soup bowls are a lot more shallow than other shabu places, but a pro is that they give you refills of actual soup as many times as you want! I typically find that shabu places give you refills of hot water which I'm not a fan of. Soup review: - Tonkotsu 9/10 the right amount of flavor and salty. Will definitely try this one next time - Spicy beef 8/10 good spice and beef flavor, however was a bit more on the watery side. Not as flavorful as the tonkotsu - original 6/10 this is a beef dashi broth, but it was definitely on the slightly sweeter side. My mom had to end up subbing hers out for tonkotsu because it caught her off guard. The server was gracious enough to replace her soup with no questions asked. Another note is that my dad was a fan of their seating arrangements. He liked having booths because it blocked out sound from other patrons (he has a hard time hearing in most restaurants bc it's extremely loud). He was actually able to enjoy his food and have a nice conversation without having to be overwhelmed with so much sound. Overall, I would say Shabu King is an EXCELLENT deal for only $28.99. This is one now one of my favorite hot pot places for multiple reasons. Background. I live in San Jose and had to drive ~30 minutes for this. There were multitudes of other hot pot places that are better (variety and accessibility) for me but this is still high on the list. Here's why. Service: This was hands down the best service we've ever had for a hot pot place. I'm not sure if it's because we went on a Saturday and it wasn't that busy (Maybe 50% capacity) and they were at full staff (at least it seemed). The servers came over frequently asking if we wanted/needed anything like more meats of food. This was AMAZING. Have you EVER been to an AYCE hot pot place or KBBQ place where they came and asked if you wanted something? I don't think I ever have, it's always us that had to flag people down. Quality of the food: The meat was good and they had a good enough variety. The consistency was a little hit or miss but still everything was good. Example, the first round of lamb was really gamey . So much that my dad (who loves lamb) didn't want a second round. The second through fourth rounds were much less gamey. My favorite was the Top Blade. They sliced the whole top blade and included the inner connective tissue which is fine. The marbling was great but one set was cut weird. I'm guessing it was the end piece. Still delicious but looked different. Their self service bar was a great touch too. Comparing this to Seapot (the conveyor belt place). I liked this method more as it's easily accessible. Every time I go to Seapot, I'm at the end of the belt so they always run out of the stuff I like. This place though, good selection and readily available. I think someone else already said this but skip the Chicken Karage. Unless you're a kid. They're basically chicken nuggets. The chicken wings are crispy and really good. They seemed like frozen breaded ones that you can get a restaurant store. Still good though! The spicy ones are the same but with Thai sweet chili sauce on top. Other: They take reservations! That was key since it was for my mom's birthday. Only warning, if you do have a group of 6-8, they'll put you at a big table that's hard to get in and out of since it's an 8 person 2 sided booth. The soup did not wow me. It is self-service for a lot of the items including the seafood, sauces and sides (there's kimchi). However, my favorite hot pot item is beef balls and they definitely don't have that. They do have some dumplings and fish balls. There's a lot of booth seating, so it's large seating area so I didn't feel cramped. I was pleasantly surprised with the service, they were definitely very attentive and checked in on us quite a bit. Today I ordered rice paper and half way through noticed black stuff on it which was most likely mold :( then I decided to eat my rice instead and it tasted like rice that had been sitting out at room temperature for more than a day. Didn't want to risk getting sick so I had to spit out the rice right away. Fortunately everything else I can cook but I don't think I will ever order rice or rice paper again. After the first 11+ group of people gets sits down, you'll be waiting for about 30-45 minutes, standing in the front of the restaurant waiting areas. They have 2 different styles of booth tables, they have table with 4 hot pots and they have long tables with 12 hot pots. The booth tables are roomy and comfortable. The foods are freshly organized in a long rectangular table with shielding display glasses that are very pretty and delicious to look at. This is my favorite place to enjoy hot pot buffet style. It's worth the price and it's worth the wait for an all you can eat place. Expect to spend 1 hour to 2 hours here. read more

ayce hotpot at a great price of $30, even better if you're able to come out on a weekday lunch $20. we came on a sunday afternoon and there was no wait/lots of seating available for a group of 7. grab counter for veggies/ sides is a bit slim but has a lot of basics. i ordered the tomato broth which was nice and light, a friend ordered tonkotsu which barely had any flavor and another friend ordered the spicy beef broth and that only tasted like spicy- no other flavor. we ordered a lot of meat, fast service - originally was enjoying the plates they were bringing out but by the end of our visit, the selections they were bringing out looked drastically different from the initial pickings (lots of fat, different color...) so that was definitely sort of odd all in all still a good price for what you're getting. read more

Although all the seating is booth style, they have about 4 sets of large booths that accommodate up to 8 people. They take reservations if the group is 7 or more, otherwise there's a wait list at the door. Our group of 8 arrived for our 8 o'clock reservation and were seated in about 5 minutes. The buffet, which had the seafood, vegetables, noodles and sauces had a nice variety and quality. There were shrimp, blue crab, mussels, clam, and squid among other items. I wished there were labels for the ingredients, because some looked familiar, but I wasn't certain what they were. Also wish there were cracking/picking utensils for the crab. I felt like I wasted some of the meat because I couldn't get it out of the shell. The meats that you order and they bring to the table were good quality, and the appetizers were good too. The price and quality of the meat are this restaurant's biggest standouts. We had a party of 15 and paid $21.99 per person for AYCE hotpot. The restaurant is super spacious without being too loud, and is very clean and well maintained for an AYCE spot. I called to make a reservation a few days prior, and they were able to set aside a space for us to eat and sit with loved ones. The customer service over the phone is great, and I was given a call to confirm or make any changes to my reservation the night before. I loved the variety of meats and veggies to choose from, and the service of the meat was pretty fast for a group of our size. We ordered the Beef Top Blade and the Beef Short Plates for the entire meal, and I loved how tender and fresh they came out. The only small downside is that their service of the sides is a little slow-- we ordered the chicken karage, the spicy chicken karage, and the tteokbokkee, and both dishes took around 15-20 minutes to get to the table and the portions are very small. If you plan on getting cooked sides, make sure to order them at the beginning of the meal when you first order meat. Overall, I loved the restaurant because of the wide selection, the meat quality, and the customer service. All the servers were very kind and patient with us because they knew we had a large group. There were some highs and lows during our dining experience. The lows. We placed an order of side dishes at the start of our meal. Unfortunately, it took awhile for them to show up. I had to talk to three different people and inquired about the missing side dishes. It seemed like the kitchen didn't get the order the first time. The second server said they would check with the kitchen, but she never came back to the table to provide an update. We were basically 75% full at this point and wondering if the appetizers would ever show up. Apparently, the third server told me that the kitchen staff were waiting on one side dish and wanted to finish that side dish so they could bring all 3 dishes together. The good news is that I just shifted my attention to all the yummy meats and dipping sauces. I wasn't mad about the delay and the sides were eventually served. They don't offer goma sauce. I had to settle for sesame oil and ponzu. There was a fairly wide array of sauces such as miso sauce, hoisin, sriracha, spicy mayo, hot chili, and peanut sauce which actually somewhat satisfied my goma sauce craving. The peanut sauce tastes completely different, but it gives off the same creamy texture as the goma sauce. The highs: Literally. The high ceilings and vibe was aesthetically pleasing. The servers' uniforms were trendy too. The place felt clean and inviting. The food was good. I would say that the quality is okay. It's expected that the meat won't be the most premium melt in your mouth type of cut. However, this restaurant offers a "good enough" selection of meats. The rib eye was the best cut of meat. We happened to be shopping at the nearby outlets and Shabu King had a flyer posted. Reviews were favorable so we decided to give it a try. Based on the flyer, we thought it was related to the nearby Korean BBQ, which it may be, but the food didn't resemble anything Korean except for the condiment bar including Kimchee. In any case, Shabu Shabu isn't really a Korean thing. They offered several broth options, I went with the classic and my wife did the spicy miso. Both were ok, but bland. The selection of condiments was decent, with an assortment of veggies, fish, shrimp and sauces. We loaded the broth up with peppers and pepper sauce from the condiment bar and that helped give it some taste. The meat selection included various beef cuts, pork and lamb. They were generally ok. We noticed the quality of the meat servings declined after the first order. For example, our second order of brisket was frozen and ended up being chewy once cooked. Service was ok, our waitress lacked in social skills being she was abrupt and generally unfriendly. The other server we worked with, a young man, was pleasant enough however. All in all it was ok. The bill made for a bad conclusion. The flyer we brought with us indicated dinner was $28.99 each person, the menu had a price of $29.99. We asked the waitress if they would honor the flyer pricing. She said no, but would give us $1 off our bill. It's a small thing, but why not just honor your advertised price? It's only a two dollar difference for the two meals. I guess it was nice they gave us $1 off, but if we really wanted to push it they advertised a price that was less than they charged and they should have lived up to it. We didn't bother to haggle over a dollar, but it set a bad tone. Silly stuff like this kills restaurants (to be fare, but picky stuff like this kills most businesses), but I guess they will have to learn that lesson themselves. I don't see us returning. read more

This place replaced Little Dipper which unfortunately closed down due to covid. That was my FAVORITE shabu spot and was known for its beef bone broth. Years later, Shabu King finally opened their doors and I hoped it would be just as good as Little Dipper. Similar to Little Dipper, your hotpot is individually served. They have 5 broths to choose from - our table ordered the Original and Tonkatsu. The Original was ok; not what I expected - a bit on the sweet side. The Tonkatus was a better choice. You had a choice of 5 meats - all were great; were fresh and thinly sliced. Then you go to the bar and choose your veggies, seafood, and noodles. You also make your sauce. I love that they offer Kimchi and Tteokboki. Overall, the restaurant is clean, food is organized, but the service is lackluster. There are a lot of shabu restaurants nearby. I wouldn't say this was a top choice. I've had better broths; this spot didn't win me over but I might give it a 2nd try. read more
