Chicken Karaage
Gene B.

On a Saturday afternoon, parking lot was fully occupied. Neighboring businesses were definitely a factor. However, plenty of parking available at the adjacent lot. Between premium and ultimate was an easy decision given the price points being just a few dollars. Primarily here for protein so the wagyu options made plenty of sense. Self-help bar had more selections in comparison to other similar establishments. Turnaround on requests were quick and responsive. There were always trays of meat on the table. Never felt the impression of them holding back on the orders. Not a fan of the chicken karaage but they've won me as a returning customer. Check your receipts as we were mistakenly charged for an additional person. A minor mistake that was quickly corrected. Excellent service!

Still one of the best AYCE hot pot in the area. Now they have the option to do 2 broths in 1 pot for $1 extra. Also their side dishes sizes have been reduced which is ok because you can order as much as you want. I think the pricing has changed also? But still enjoyed every single item we ate there.

Saw their sign at the outlet showing $20.99. Went to the restaurant , the cheapest lunch was priced at $22.99. They should really change that at the outlet since it's false advertisement. The food was ok. We got the $22.99. Nothing premium or write home about. Just normal AYCE . The appetizer was good option. Not sure if I would come again

Been wanting to try hot pot for a while now &ive finally had the experience ive heard about. I chose the spicy miso broth and it was delicious. You get to walk to the food bar and pick what ingredients you want in your soup a nice variety of meats, veggies, sauces, and fresh noodle options.

I came here to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday on a Sunday evening around 6pm and there was no wait. If you have a party of 7 or more, you can make reservations ahead of time. The six of us (5 adults and one toddler in a booster chair) fit perfectly into the larger booth. We went with the ultimate for $32.99 per person, which gives you access to the premium meats, such as wagyu. First step is to decide on your soup base. Our whole table got tonkatsu, which I really enjoyed. Next, you order the meats and appetizers through the server. While you are waiting for the food to arrive, go to the bar to grab all your sauce and fixings. When I went up, it was pretty busy and overwhelming, because I wasn't sure where the line starts and ends. For my sauce, I did shacha sauce, ponzu sauce, minced garlic, green onion, and a little bit of red chili paste. For my sides, I got spinach, napa cabbage, fish ball with roe, corn, zucchini, and japanese ramen noodles. I'm not sure if I saw any enoki mushroom? The broccoli looked bad, so I didn't end up getting any. I like that the meat was all thinly cut! But they don't really note which meat is which when they drop it off, so I can't really recommend which one I liked most, but there wasn't any meat that I was displeased with. I'm more about the thinness of my hot pot meat, so I can't really speak to the quality of it. For appetizers, I enjoyed the spicy kaarage chicken and shrimp tempura. I'm grateful that we got decent service. The staff was good about picking up empty dishes promptly, which allowed us to re-order meat and appetizers at the same time, without needing to chase anyone down. There were times that we had to ask for something more than one time though. We ended the night with vanilla ice cream and red bean sesame ball. I had a good experience and would go back!

Came here for hot pot and was impressed by the overall selection. Shabu King offers a good variety of meats and cooked items, plus a well-stocked cold bar where you can pick your own vegetables and fish sticks. It's a nice setup if you want to customize your meal exactly to your taste. Everything felt light and easy to eat, which I appreciate for hot pot. The meats were especially good -- flavorful, nicely sliced, and with just the right amount of fat for cooking in broth without getting greasy. Solid choice for a casual hot pot meal, especially if you like having lots of options and control over what goes into your pot.

5/5 stars for this calm, clean, and delicious hot pot place that has all of the best popular ingredients from the Asian supermarket for u to enjoy cooking in their variety of hot broth soups. The customer service support is excellent and fast. This place is very popular and the wait time for a table takes from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the waitlist and the crowd. The wait is so worth it, because the food is delicious and the lunch buffet menu price is worth the wait. U will get more for your money.

This is my go to shabu place when I need my fix. Wide range of meat cuts and broth choices for whatever you're feeling. The self serve veggie and noodle station is always stocked and the build your own sauce station is also a nice touch. Ordered the spicy miso and the spicy beef broths. Broths needed salt, but were definitely spicy! Service was quick, but forgot a few of our sides. Pretty clean place for the most part, a few tables had some trash on them.

Spicy miso and suiyaki with all wagyu cuts

3.5 out of 5 stars - The ambiance was relaxed and modern, making it great for casual outings. We didn't wait in line which was good; place was kind of empty on a wed evening. I love the new option of variety of having 2 broths, but we didn't try that this time. We both got the spicy miso and sukiyaki, which were both pretty good but nothing we haven't tried. The meat selection was good but we did get the highest tier for wagyu cuts, some marbling. The veggies and noodles were fresh and self serve which is always a plus. Appetizers were decent as well, regular ones you would see (we tried gyoza and fried chicken wings). I did like the seaweed rice option. Service was a bit hit or miss; sometimes we felt neglected, though the staff was friendly when they were around. Overall, it's a good spot to satisfy your Shabu cravings, would come back.

We love when there's a new hot pot spot and it's AYCE like the Lord heard my prayer for real! Been here a couple of times already and tried a few of their different broths at dinner time (spicy miso and sukiyaki). In terms of hot pot, I liked the spicy miso flavor here as it was really tame on the spicy level yet still delicious. The sukiyaki had a nice general flavor for anything you wanted to put, so I'd recommend getting this if you want a "neutral" broth base. Tonkotsu is not as rich and hearty that you would get at ramen places, but works well here in my opinion for hotpot. They have lunch and dinner menu, where the dinner option is offered at $29.99. Dinner menu has more options in terms of broth base (Tom Yum and Tomato), meat options (lots of beef), and side dishes. In my opinion, dinner is pretty worth it because of the wonderful meat options you get at large serving sizes (ribeye, belly, shank, brisket) unless you just want a simple broth and don't care as much about the side dishes lunch is also great. Sauce bar and AYCE/veggie station was up to par. Had the main things I always reach for: udon noodles, fish balls, all kinds of cabbage and veggies, and lots of cilantro / green onions available. The only thing I would note is that sauce bar was missing the sesame oil the second time I went, so I wasn't able to get my sauce off that day. Nothing too crazy with the side dishes -- rice cakes were a bit too chewy and chicken karaage was a little dry. Very small portions given though just to keep in mind! I did really enjoy my Sesame Ball with their Vanilla Ice Cream dessert to end my meal off however. Overall, solid & casual spot for hot pot. I'd come back again and try more of their broths. Not very comfy seats though, so I'd last an hour here sadly...

Shabu King as the name implies is a pizza joint. Not! I wanted to see if you were paying attention. It's an individual hot pot, AYCE with three dining options: Ultimate, Premium, and Lunch - see menu picture for the latest prices. The main option difference is more meat choices and side dishes in the Ultimate to lesser but still very good choices in the Premium and affordable Lunch options. The setup is you order broth, meats and sides from the Server and you self-serve on the carbs, seafood, veggies, funghi, herbs, etc from the food counter / bar. Since it's an AYCE, cleanliness is important and we noted that the raw food and sauces counter is kept clean and not messy. Items are constantly replenished. We went for lunch and were seated in a quiet area in the rear which had four tables of six. Each table had a heating element for six hot pots. The lunch hot pot menu had 5 broth, 8 sides, and 7 meat options. Since it is all individual and the items are all fresh, you're the cook as you choose the options and ingredients, thus you only have yourself to blame for a bad meal combination! I chose a two broth combo for lunch; Savory Tonkatsu and slightly Sweet Sukiyaki. I specifically chose this combo for the contrasting flavor profiles of the broth and was very satisfied. For meats I chose brisket, lamb, and beef short plate. For sides, our group had the Sesame Balls (came out hot and nicely chewy gooey) and Rice Wrap. All of these items can be reordered over and over as long as you don't waste the food. There are warning signs that they will charge you for being wasteful. All of the meats were fresh and thinly sliced for fast cooking and you have many choices for dipping sauces: sacha, sesame, chili oil, goguchong, wasabi, mustard, etc.... You can't go wrong with the sauces as you can keep mixing until you find the right combo. Overall, we liked the choices, affordability, the cleanliness and the service. Will definitely go back.

Shabu King is an AYCE shabu shabu restaurant located in the Fallon Gateway, occupying the space left vacant by Little Dipper. I came here for dinner with a group of friends on 01/23/2025. Since we had nine people total, we called ahead to make a reservation. But as it turned out, we didn't need to. The place was pretty quiet when we walked in at around 6:30pm. We were seated at two side-by-side tables away from the main dining area. The interior had gone through some renovations, most notably the addition of a buffet island. The interior was very clean and bright. Multiple TVs provided entertainment for diners. AYCE dinner was $29.99 per person. Their menu featured a decent selection of appetizers, broths, and meats. I also did not see any mention of a dining time limit or how many plates of meat you can order per round. Food wise, the spicy miso broth I had was decent. The buffet island had a wide selection of seafood, vegetables, mushrooms, etc. All the items I had were fine. As for the meats, my favorite was the top blade. It had a lot less fat than the other beef cuts. The lamb was also decent. Service was good. The staff were friendly and efficient. We got all the appetizers and meats we ordered. Overall, Shabu King is a good alternative to all the Chinese hot pot spots in the area. The pricing is reasonable, and the food and service are good. If you are a budget-conscious diner, their AYCE lunch is a good deal at just $20.99. Note: Came back on 08/12/2005 and my assessment remained the same.

Korean curry soup base hot pot
Derek T.

Very reasonable price for dinner at this place. The meat quality I fresh and I like the small portions being served. This way I don't have to over eat and end up wasting food. The short ribs cut is the best I think. I like the Korean curry soup base. Service is courteous and friendly.

We usually just get the regular menu and are well satisfied with our many available meat choices. The staff members are always so courteous, friendly and attentive (shout out to Ethan! He's the best!), and they provide frequent grill changes as needed. They provide a table full of various banchan dishes (sides) to enjoy - the japchae is consistently delicious and our daughter enjoys their kimchi - and they will replenish those as often as you like. They also offer a generous serving of free ice cream for dessert (always scrumptious), although since my husband and I started eating carnivore at the beginning of this year, we give the banchan and ice cream a polite pass now. This is the perfect restaurant for carnivores because you can get all the meat you care to eat! The sliced brisket is great, and the miso pork belly is a big favorite of ours! We did try the premium menu one time and the wagyu was definitely delicious! There's very little we would change at all! Foodwise, we would love it if they offered pre-shelled garlic marinated shrimp - we like seafood, but we tend to avoid this because the one time we tried the shrimp it stuck to the grill and just involved too much messy peeling to deal with for what we ended up getting to eat. There are always plenty more items to choose from so this was a very minor thing. There's admittedly not much parking onsite to accommodate their volume of customers, as their lot is small, but that dates back to the original business (Kawa Sushi, which was our all-time favorite sushi restaurant before it sadly closed after COVID!) and can't be helped. There's plenty of on-street parking, and after eating an indulgent meal, a little walk is not a bad idea to level out our blood sugar! One change we would definitely appreciate is if the music volume was set slightly lower (it is always high decibel and tends to impede conversation if you're eating in the main front area) and we would love some variety in the music selection. We understand the custom in this type of restaurant is to play high energy music rather than anything more relaxing to eat by, but how about some great 70s, 80s, and 90s music? My guess is that a lot of the patrons that eat here regularly might enjoy that ambience much more (we definitely would)! One more thing I'd like to add - we have tried out several different AYCE Korean BBQs, both locally and in other places, and nothing has ever lived up to YakiniQ in food quality and in dining experience - we are always somewhat disappointed whenever we go somewhere else. For one thing, most places force you to choose from a limited menu framework that also includes many specific side dishes or non-BBQ items that we cannot eat, and they will only serve a limited amount at one time, so sometimes there is inconvenient waiting involved as we try to get the attention of the wait staff. This is not the case at YakiniQ - all ordering is done conveniently through scanning a QR code that opens their online menu app. You can get everything from food to drinks to additional tableware (and even request your bill), all by a quick tap of your screen. There are very few limited-consumption items, and the allowed amounts are generous enough to satisfy a healthy appetite. Also, some of these other restaurants have developed some rather elevated upcharges (or even a "membership") and/or complicated pricing structures which are both unreasonable and unnecessary. At YakiniQ, they keep the focus where it belongs, on good food and good service for a reasonable price per person. If you do decide to splash out on the premium menu, you will definitely get your money's worth, and if you stick to the regular menu, you will not be disappointed - either way, you will not leave hungry! (And for us getting the regular menu just means we can come back more often!) If you love Korean BBQ, YakiniQ is the place to be! If you've never tried it - start here. You'll never want to go anywhere else.

The seafood and noodle counter is right near the front door so patrons that are waiting to be seated are just staring at the food, and between them waiting for a table, people grabbing their food, and people leaving it can be a very tight spot to navigate. My girlfriend and I decided to pay this place a visit. This was my second time going there, and her…read morefirst time going. We pre-ordered takeout, and both got the "Make Your Own" plates. To provide some context, as of the time we ordered, the "Make Your Own" plates come with one protein choice, and 5 vegetable choices (with the opportunity to add more protein for extra charge). Both my girlfriend and I ordered beef as the protein. When we got to the restaurant to pick up the order, the staff member asked me to show him our order on my phone, as he didn't seem to know what ingredients to add for our order. I thought it was odd, because if I did a mobile order, then they should know. The staff member then asked for my girlfriend and I to sit outside, and informed us that it would take about 10 minutes for them to complete our order. There was only one table and two chairs on the outside. There were some people dining in at the time we went to pick up our order, but not a whole lot - which means that there were lots of open tables on the inside. After about 10 minutes later, the staff member came out with our order. When we got back to the house, we opened our order, and noticed that there was NO beef - for BOTH of our orders! Additionally, my girlfriend's order was lacking carrots and spinach. There are three main points that I would like to highlight: 1) Why would they ask us to sit outside while waiting, in the cold, when you clearly have a bunch of seats indoors? If I am being honest, I felt like we were being discriminated against, because we are an interracial couple (one of us is not Chinese). We were the only ones that were asked to sit outside to wait for our order - while everyone else was sitting inside (they all appeared to be of Asian/Chinese descent). To re-iterate, the restaurant was nowhere close to being packed. I'd say at most the seating capacity was 30% filled. In general (and with very few exceptions), it really isn't right to ask a customer to sit outside in the cold to wait for their order when you clearly have a bunch of tables open. Given that my girlfriend and I were the only ones who got asked to sit outside, it really felt like we were being targeted. 2) Our order was egregiously messed up - for. It clearly says on the menu that we get one choice of meat by default when ordering the "Make Your Own" plates. We clearly ordered beef. BOTH of us ended up NOT getting any beef, and my girlfriend didn't get her carrots and spinach. To this day, I am still baffled by how this could have been messed up - especially on BOTH of our orders. Common sense would dictate that if you order something, you're supposed to get what you paid for. I can understand if the restaurant was out of those items - as long as they communicate and are transparent about it. We would have been willing to accept any substitutions (if offered), or straight up take the order as is - as long as we were informed about what was going on. What you don't do is not give your customer what they paid for and not tell them about it. 3) Given the previous two points, I feel like there was some deal of intentionality behind this. First, we get asked to sit outside (again, being an interracial couple, and visiting a restaurant that was not close to being packed). Next, our order was egregiously messed up. Not only did we feel discriminated against, we also felt like they were intentionally not giving us what we paid for. Think about it - would a customer sitting outside in the cold be able to easily see them cook up the order? No. If I wanted to screw a customer over, that's exactly what I would do. I'd put them in a position to where they couldn't see me make the order, so they wouldn't be able to call me out on any mistakes while I'm making it. We felt like that's exactly what they did to us. The only reason why I am giving this place two stars is because the noodles did taste amazing. We both agreed that noodles/sauce tasted great. However, it is not enough to just serve good food - how a customer gets treated is just as, if not, more important. There's no point in getting great food if that means you're subject to your order being egregiously screwed up, a lack of transparency, and possible discrimination. Overall, my girlfriend and I were extremely disappointed in our experience here (which we spent over $45 for). We will not be returning to this location. Gobi Mongolian BBQ (Pleasanton), please do better. I know that you will continue to have new and returning customers (excluding my girlfriend and myself), and it is my hope that you do right by them.

Never post. But this place really deserves props. Probably the best $20 meal in my eleven years in…read moreSan Ramon. These days $20 barely gets you a sando or burrito and chips. Compare that to all you can eat epic 10/10 tandoor chicken......fragrant curries and a perfect tender savory goat stew. Pakora and cauliflower tempura were solid. Butter chicken had great flavor with the great tandoor chicken mixed in. Probably eight hot items to choose from. Friendly staff delivered fresh warm naan. Didn't load up on rice, but multiple biryanis looked really good. Every dish had vibrant, fragrant spices and ingredients. Several desserts were available as well as complimentary chai and fresh mango lassi. Not one bite felt frozen, stale or compromised. We arrived right at 11:30 opening, which is ideal, but I'm confident the quality and freshness can be trusted and is clearly emphasized here. It's hard to understand how they can provide such good quality food....expertly prepared....in a clean modern environment for such a reasonable price. There were only about a dozen of us here, and that made things comfortable and clean, so it might feel different if there were 40 or 50. But today was a winner.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the San Ramon location may have been sold to someone else. I recently tried the buffet under the new ownership, and honestly, it still looks very similar to the old buffet and the food still tastes great. I really enjoyed it. The service is also really good. It gets extremely busy during lunchtime, which tells you how popular this place is, but the staff does a good job keeping everything moving. If you're looking for a good Indian lunch buffet with plenty of choices, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. Great food, good service, and a really enjoyable buffet!

This was our first time here, and we were greeted right away by a very warm and welcoming hostess who helped get us situated. The food and sauce selection was great, and I honestly never found myself thinking, "I wish they had this." There was plenty of variety, everything tasted fresh, and we left very satisfied. Definitely a place we'll be coming back to.

My wife and I went on a Wednesday night a little before 6pm because we were in the area and craving hot pot. There are various AYCE packages with premium meats, we ordered the basic because we felt that would meet our needs. The meat seemed fresh, and the service friendly and responsive. They also had an area to get sauces and various cooked food (fried rice, honey walnut prawns, chow mein, Sichuan cold noodles) and other items. One thing they made this place unique is you could order Peking duck wraps, which they would cut and wrap to order. They gave us two each time and we ordered it 3 times along with other hot pot items. While not pushing ourselves to overeat too much, we felt satisfied and that we ate our moneys' worth. We'd go again.
