    Undercooked samosa

I had a terrible experience. I ordered appetizers: Cholay Bhatura and Samosas. The cholay was runny, the bread was uncooked and different than the usual puffy bread- it's now a wheat bread (yuck); I'm unsure how they managed to ruin samosas, but they were undercooked and cold- not even room temperature. The main dishes were spicy despite ordering mild and for the cost, the portions are small. Worst yet, when I addressed the quality issues, the woman kept gaslighting me and telling me that "it's okay." Could have been a language barrier, but the rude and dismissive tone was telling. She told me that other customers complained that things were "too well done", however, I'm still wondering why someone else's experience is worth bringing up when my food was undercooked. So, poison me with undercooked food because you overcooked a different order? Nonetheless, the failure to fully cook food is not just unfortunate, it's unforgivable when you couple the transgression with an attitude. Don't waste your money.

Assortment! Best: chicken tikka masala and butter chicken

Sublime butter chicken, garlic naan, and chicken tikka masala! We ordered for delivery and it was ready super fast. There was quite a bit more oil than most other times we've ordered from other restaurants, but it was still delicious.

Excellent food. Well balanced spices and flavors. Friendly staff and cozy environment. I Highly recommend eating here. Definitly an Oakland gem.

    I go overboard with loading.

I don't eat Indian food often, so when I do, I expect quality. The person I went with picked this place since we went on a random Tuesday, during lunch and it was in close vicinity to us. When we walked in, there was no one inside, but two ladies who worked there. I was a little skeptical -- it was almost like they were anxious for business. We got seated right away and offered water. She explained that it was a buffet and that we can help ourselves when we were ready, so we did. The selection was very limited and there was one option of dessert and one salad option as well. She said the bread was being prepared and would come out shortly. By the time we got our food, she brought the Naan bread out. It was fresh and warm? Kudos. I though that the food was definitely up to par; either that or I was extremely famished. I didn't have high expectations for a small little business like this and especially when we walked in to Ghost Town. A few minutes after we sat down, more patrons came in, so that made me feel a little bit better. Even though the selection wasn't as wide as I'd hoped, everything was on point and the service was good. She kept coming by to check on our waters. Although I don't do Indian often, I would come back for lunch or dinner and also recommend this place to others. I would love to try ordering from their menu one day. P.S. I'm also sad that I saw the sauces on the side after my meal. I was too stuffed to get more food, but maybe next time!

When I approached the front counter, the lady present was very standoffish with me. I informed her of why I was there and she asked my name for the order. Upon giving her my name she then glared at me and literally asked me to recite my entire order lol! I showed her my online receipt in which she then insisted I still tell her my order. She brushed away my receipt and let another customer cut in front of me. Interestingly, the customer told her his name and she retrieved his order with no issue and was very friendly with him. To note, I was the only Black person present at that time. When I inquired as to why that customer wasn't asked to recite his entire order, she grinned and said that he's a "regular" and that I was "new." She went on to let a few other customers cut in front of me. I then asked for my money back in which she refused to return. Even when I asked for the manager, she said he was very busy. I made several requests for this resulting in her saying no and refusing to return my money. I then noted to her I'm calling the authorities in which I did. Furthermore, while servicing some of the other patrons, she would speak in another language with them while they looked at me and start laughing and staring me down. Eventually, the manager came out. He presented himself professionally and upon explaining what occurred he apologized and said it was unacceptable. He even offered me a drink with my meal and asked that I please accept the order instead and wanted to make things right. I took him at face value and said fine. While the situation was remedied, I definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. I researched some of the other reviews and came across several where other Black patrons have had similar racially motivated experiences here. That tells me there's a common practice of racism here. I refuse to support a business where this kind of behavior is tolerated. I have zero tolerance for bigots of any kind. Overall, the experience was a waste of my time and very dehumanizing. To hate someone you don't even know simply because of their skin pigmentation and ethnicity is irrational at best and bad for business especially in a place like Oakland where it's multicultural. My advice would be to not support this establishment. I especially advise any Black patrons not to come here as they clearly have issue with anyone who is simply Black, despite not knowing them as a person. Don't give your money, nor your valuable time, to hateful individuals who dehumanize others. All in all, this place gets a thumbs down.

Papadom- served with tasty sauces Chicken tikka masala- all down to personal preference, this is a very sweet/tomato heavy flavor profile, not very spicy (we got medium level). Would definitely recommend spiciest level. Naan- average Coconut rice- delicious. Kind of a sticky texture, very strong flavor that paired well with the chicken and salmon. Tandoor salmon- great flavor, served with some roasted vegetables which were tasty. Slightly overcooked but with the fresh lemon juice and rice it wasn't too noticeable. The service was fine, atmosphere pretty lowkey but nicely decorated and clean. Will definitely return to try more dishes and figure out which suit our tastes the best.

I ordered the butter chicken (which came with rice), goat curry (entrée only), spinach samosas, and two orders of garlic naan. Everything arrived well-packaged and still warm. The butter chicken was ordered medium spicy, but honestly it didn't taste spicy at all. That said, it was still very flavorful. The sauce was rich, creamy, and smooth with tender pieces of chicken throughout. Even without much heat, the flavor was on point and very satisfying over the rice. The goat curry was excellent. Deep, savory flavor with a nice thickness to the sauce. The only thing to note is that there are quite a few bones, which is typical for goat but something to be aware of if you're not used to it. If you don't mind working around bones, it's absolutely worth it. The garlic naan was really good, and they were generous with the portions. Soft, slightly chewy, and perfect for scooping up both curries. Two orders ended up being more than enough. The spinach samosas came as two large pieces. Even though it's only two, they're big and filling. Crispy outside with a flavorful spinach filling inside. Overall, I ordered all of this just for myself and ended up getting four full meals out of it. Great value for the price and everything tasted fresh and well-made. I would absolutely order from here again and look forward to trying more of their menu.
