    Cheese Naan
    Austin W.

Today was my first time trying food from Delicious Curry House and I had a lukewarm experience. One thing that immediately stood out to me was that prices here are noticeable cheaper than other Indian curry spots in Oakland and Berkeley. I ordered the palak paneer ($10.99), cheese naan ($3.49), and vegetable samosa ($6.99). Portion sizes were generally what I expected at this price point. For example, although ordering a cheese naan at House of Curries in Berkeley is double the price at $6.99, the portion size there is double as well. I thought the cheese naan here was just alright. I didn't get the cheese pull I'd expect from a naan that's stuffed with cheese, and the sparse amount of cheese inside also was quick to solidify after we had picked it up. The samosa was crispy on the outside and the mixture was well-seasoned on the inside. Included with the samosa are small containers of a sweet and tangy tamarind chutney and a spicy green mint sauce. With the palak paneer, I thought it desperately needed more salt. Not a difficult problem to fix at home, but a large pinch of salt vastly improved the taste of the dish. Another criticism I had of the dish was that there was simply not enough paneer. In total, there were four cubes of paneer. Overall, Delicious Curry House clocks in at a 3 star. I may stop by again if I'm looking for a budget friendly Indian spot and in the area, but there are definitely better options elsewhere.

Came across this restaurant while looking and it had good reviews so decided to try. Almost didn't go in because it said Pakistani (along with Indian and Nepali) on the sign outside but went in as I saw owner was Nepali. I chose this spot because they had veggie momos on menu, but sadly they weren't there when I got there so I got the Hakka noodles instead which were still pretty good, could use more salt, but other than that was fine.

Came here on a Sunday evening to enjoy an early dinner & I was a little skeptical not seeing a single customer but decided to just try it out. Initially we didn't even see any waiter or host so had to call out a friendly "Hello". We waited a few minutes then were seated & got to look at the variety of items offered on their menu. Since it was only 3 of us, we only got 2 main dishes & a tandoori naan. Service was pretty efficient especially when there only seemed like 2 workers there (the chef & cashier/waiter). Orders: Tandoori naan-Aloo Paratha was a whole wheat stuffed potato naan baked in a Tandoor. I had envisioned chunks of potato, bc I like texture, but it was smashed pieces placed into the naan. So even though the potato wasn't evident by appearance, I still tasted the potato. Chicken Tikka Biryani-basmati rice w/medium heat & nice chunks of chicken was a spicy dish for me. The bowl it came in seemed small, but in reality it was actually deep. So it was satisfying & the only change I would add is to keep the spice level at a low range instead of their medium spice level. Other than the spice level, I would reorder this dish again for its authentic & generous chunks of chicken pieces. Look forward to trying more things at Deliciois Curry House in the near future.

Family run spot with my favorite Indian food in the Easy bay. If you ask for extra spicy they absolutely can deliver. Great prices, great service and the food has so much flavor. Probably been over 70 times. Very rarely have I ever left feeling like it was less than a good meal.

    Veggie pakora platter

I was going to a show at the Fox, looking for someplace local and tasty. The reviews drew me in here. Nobody was seated when I went in on a Wednesday evening, about 5pm. Nobody else sat down for the next hour, just some doordashers and takeout people arrived. I was promptly visited and gave my order. Vegetable pakora, butter paneer, and garlic naan, with rice. Everything came out in good orderr, and man was it good. The pakora came as five balls, packed with onions, cauliflower, and what else, which was different, and quite good. The butter paneer was excellent as well, and I finished all of it. The one guy who was attending the front had disappeared by then to the back, and my seat was sort of behind a wall. After a loooong wait, I stood up and started walking toward the back, when he remembered me. I ordered chai tea and gulab jamun, and again both were really good, but it took quite a while to get his attention for the check. The total check was absurdly low, $30.44 before tax and tip. So I definitely recommend this place, I just suggest they pay closer attention to anyone (if there is anyone) seated in the dining room.

We got the veggie combo ($14) and goat (16) combo.Combos came with basmati rice, salad and naan. Both delicious! The curry sauces have the depth and just the right amount of spicy heat to keep my pallet perked without causing me sweat. The goat meat had a little bit of gelatinous tendon - melted in my mouth 5/5. The rice was room temp warm and was a little stiff - like it wasn't re-heated/microwaved long enough, 2/5. Chai tea was rich with a touch of chai , 3.5. Our server was a sweet and soft spoken lady, attentive, We were in and out within 40 min. Restaurant was clean, Indian pop music to live up our lunch. Street metered parking or garage parkings at hourly rates.

Chicken Biryani is plentiful and delicious!

Love, love, love this (new to us) Indian spot. The restaurant is cute and inviting. The food though is wonderful! It does not shy away from full flavor and you can ask for as much or little spice as you'd like. Will be a regular here. The prices are amazing, too!

Pictured in my review is their chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. I made an Indian cuisine inspired potato dish, and while making it I decided I needed either chicken curry or tikka masala. So, while I placed my order I decided to make my own rice. In other words, this review is about the tikka masala and garlic naan. The tikka masala is good, as always. Nice, creamy and I loved dipping my garlic naan in it. I served it over my white rice. I've had their rice before as well, which is delicious. I believe they use saffron in it? I've been meaning to review this spot as I came quite a few times in the beginning of the year, and let me just brag about the naan with cheese. I have no idea what kind of cheese it is but it is savory and satisfying. I've tried the mango lassi and it's what you'd expect to taste. I don't really have any complaints here. They seem to have a small staff, but they are always helpful. It was empty when I came in, but it was about 4pm during a work day. I suppose I benefit more than I can imagine with the perks of working remote.

We came in around 3:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon, it was very quiet. We needed a table for 3, they sat us in the back room. My daughter frequents this establishment, she said it's quiet like that all the time. She thinks it's awkward, so she gets her food to go lol The person working was just working. Not friendly, not unfriendly. Just there to do her job. The food is delicious. It came out fairly quickly and hot. I think I'll definitely return. If anything, for the garlic cheese naan. Was so good.

Fish tikka masala. Must get! Assuming it's made exactly like it was today.

The name doesn't lie. I'm glad my friend took me here otherwise I wouldn't have been exposed to such delicious fish tikka masala or Nepalese rap artists. We were the only dine-in customers at around 2:30 pm and they were playing Nepalese hip hop. We ordered the fish tikka masala medium spiced, the butter chicken spicy, and the garlic and cheese naan. Everything was pretty amazing. The favorite was definitely the fish tikka masala. The fish was crispy and the tikka masala tastes more like the typical butter chicken that I always search for. And for a medium spice level, it was spicier then the spicy on the butter chicken. I could really taste the char on the chicken as well. The garlic cheese naan was soft, gooey, and garlicky. It paired really well with our dishes. My friends said that this visit was probably the best version of the dishes that they've tried, so I guess we got real lucky today. Either way, I might just be a fish tikka masala convert for now.

Good food and decent pricing. My friends and I came here after finding them on Yelp a while back and have been coming back since. It's our go-to for Indian food in Oakland. We've gotten biryani, naan, and curries here and they have all been good. Their butter chicken is creamy and flavorful. My friend is absolutely obsessed with their cheese naan. I will say the service can be a bit slow, especially with the place usually being empty when we go. Overall, a good place for Indian food.

I typically grab Togo here since I don't like parking my car in uptown Oakland. Restaurant is small and clean. The staff are welcoming and quick to fulfill your order. I like to order the chicken tikki masala and butter chicken. Although the containers look small, there is a good amount of curry in each. You can also choose your spice level. My favorite is medium.

I'm not sure when, but they've changed owners. The food is pretty much the same, but the service has dropped a notch. The previous owners were really engaging and familial. The server we had was nice, but not as attentive. Spent a lot of time sitting with his phone. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Fish Curry and Lamb Biryani. The Chicken Tikka Masala was as excellent as before. Tender and well-infused with the tikka masala sauce, that was lightly tart and sweet. The Fish Curry Sauce was way too spicy. It was the most spicy curry dish I've ever had. The aroma of the curry did work well with the Tilapia though. For the Lamb Biryani, the basmati rice was the short grain kind, which I'm not a big fan of. I prefer the long grain, sela parboiled basmati. I also added a side of Garlic Naan. This was a delightful surprise. I don't know how authentic it was, but it was the most delicate and airy naan I've sampled. Almost like a light Neapolitan pizza crust. Another reason why I dinged a star was that after I got home, I realized I got charged for the small extra container of yogurt sauce I asked for. Really?? I mean, I've always been given those for free after a full menu order. And for $1.99? What's that, a 1000% markup? Sure, that doesn't put me in the welfare line, but how about a warning? As for you, my yelp fam, considered yourself warned.

When I approached the front counter, the lady present was very standoffish with me. I informed her of why I was there and she asked my name for the order. Upon giving her my name she then glared at me and literally asked me to recite my entire order lol! I showed her my online receipt in which she then insisted I still tell her my order. She brushed away my receipt and let another customer cut in front of me. Interestingly, the customer told her his name and she retrieved his order with no issue and was very friendly with him. To note, I was the only Black person present at that time. When I inquired as to why that customer wasn't asked to recite his entire order, she grinned and said that he's a "regular" and that I was "new." She went on to let a few other customers cut in front of me. I then asked for my money back in which she refused to return. Even when I asked for the manager, she said he was very busy. I made several requests for this resulting in her saying no and refusing to return my money. I then noted to her I'm calling the authorities in which I did. Furthermore, while servicing some of the other patrons, she would speak in another language with them while they looked at me and start laughing and staring me down. Eventually, the manager came out. He presented himself professionally and upon explaining what occurred he apologized and said it was unacceptable. He even offered me a drink with my meal and asked that I please accept the order instead and wanted to make things right. I took him at face value and said fine. While the situation was remedied, I definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. I researched some of the other reviews and came across several where other Black patrons have had similar racially motivated experiences here. That tells me there's a common practice of racism here. I refuse to support a business where this kind of behavior is tolerated. I have zero tolerance for bigots of any kind. Overall, the experience was a waste of my time and very dehumanizing. To hate someone you don't even know simply because of their skin pigmentation and ethnicity is irrational at best and bad for business especially in a place like Oakland where it's multicultural. My advice would be to not support this establishment. I especially advise any Black patrons not to come here as they clearly have issue with anyone who is simply Black, despite not knowing them as a person. Don't give your money, nor your valuable time, to hateful individuals who dehumanize others. All in all, this place gets a thumbs down.

First, the customer service set the tone. The first server who greeted us was very rude, nonchalant, and standoffish. It honestly felt like we were bothering her just by being there, which made the experience uncomfortable from the start. As for the food, this is definitely not your typical Indian food. The flavors were very different from what we're used to, and not in a good way. My niece absolutely loves Indian food -- we eat it pretty regularly -- but she did not like her dish at all. None of us really enjoyed our meals. We even spoke with the manager about it because we were trying to be reasonable. We explained that the food just wasn't something we could eat and wanted to see if there was any way to resolve it. The manager told us there was nothing he could do because we had already ordered the food, so we ended up paying for meals that we barely touched. If you look at the pictures, it probably looks like we didn't eat much of anything. That's because we really didn't. The only things we were able to eat were the naan and some of the rice. Even the rice didn't come with the meal and had to be ordered separately. Another thing worth mentioning is the portion sizes. The dishes looked more like appetizer portions rather than full meal portions, especially for the price. Between the unfriendly service, the unusual taste of the food, and the fact that we had to pay for meals we didn't even eat, this was not a great experience. Unfortunately, this is not a place we would return to.

For our main, we went with the Yogurt Chicken Kabobs and a side of Narenj Pallow (saffron rice). Cocktail-wise we tried the Red Henna, Black Ink and the Pashtunwali #1. For the second course we ordered the Estrella Galicia Lagers. There's also a happy hour drink and bar bites menu in the bar & lounge area. Looks like those hours are geared towards 5-6:30p. Jaji shares 'they are a modern progressive take on Afghan cuisine and a modern love letter to Afghanistan.' The same owners have a sister restaurant also in Oakland called Parche off Broadway which serves contemporary Colombian cuisine. All in all, our meal was delicious and esthetically pretty. So many layers to our meal and deep flavors and a thoughtful approach. We were headed to a show or we would have probably ordered more. Def looking forward to exploring more from the menu like the picture worthy Osso Buco and dessert :) The cocktail menu is worthy of a trip in itself, and event space is equally as gorgeous. What a win for downtown Oakland! We took a ride-share as parking seems to be a bit tricky, although there are metered lots nearby.
