    Chicken Tikka Masala Lunch Special
    Jeff W.

The lunch specials are back as of about a year ago, but I've only eaten here maybe 2-3 times in the last year. Decent size lunch for $13-$14. Not overly filling but it will hold you over until dinner time. It took about 10 min for my food to be ready and in the meantime, I just sat at a table a scrolled on my phone The lunch is pictured and is very tasty. Really can't mess up a staple of a dish that chicken tikki masala is, and they're spot on with the flavor. My only wish is that they put more than 3 cubes of chicken in the lunch. It almost looks like a plastic cup of soup, but there were 3 small cubes of chicken in there. I could have given this a 3 star but the naan was good and of regular size.

I've walked by this place many times and decided to give it a try. They offer a lunch special for $13.99. I had the lamb curry to go, which came with nann, rice and salad. The curry had a rich flavor with a nice kick of spice, and the lamb was cookeduntil tender and juicy. I enjoyed every bite! I will come back to trymore of their dishes.

Ordered through DoorDash, called to request it extra spicy, not as spicy as I like it, but pretty close to it. Naan was soft. Nice consistency with the curry not too oily. Rice is rice I would order again

The service was amazing. The young lady took our order and listened to any requests we had with patience. The ambience during tonight was very quiet since it wasn't super busy and the decor was quite basic. No music or television provided. The food was great and just as I remembered from long ago when I first had it. The garlic naan isn't super strong on the garlic which I appreciate and the tenderness of the naan is truly a representation of fresh made. The same goes for the cheese honey naan which was sweet, tender and stringy cheesy goodness. The tandoori chicken leg took the longest to cook; I think it took about half an hour or a bit more. Personally, I think it tasted great and I'm somewhere in the middle of if it was worth the wait for not. The chicken meat was tender, moist and nicely marinated. The vegetable samosa w/ garbanzo beans were delicious. Stuffed with a spiced potato, garbanzo and beans, it tasted great alone and with the sauce that came with the chick peas. The chicken makhami and chicken tikka were near identical in terms of taste (or maybe I'm just unseasoned). The chicken in the makhami was slightly different as it had a little more spice/kick to it. And yes, the spiciness of the sauce is adjustable (just ask nicely). Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I will definitely consider coming back and recommending others to try it.

We come here at least 1x /week for the lunch special. $13.99 The meats in the curries are always tender and the sauces are flavorful. Vegetarian curries have generous varieties of veggies. You can adjust the spice level to your taste buds. The naan! ... soft chewy and crunchy on the edges. Best of all - complementary chai tea! The owner and his staff are sweet and friendly. The restaurant and the restroom are immaculately clean!

My favorite biryanis restaurant in Oakland! Looks like a simple hole-in-the-wall but the food is freshly made to order and absolutely delicious! On this trip I asked for a lamb kheema biryani and they said they could do it. In other places, this would be the biryani rice with kheema curry layered in between. Here, the lamb kheema is actually fried together with the rice which is fantastic! The aroma and delightfulness in each spoonful was heavenly! This is my new favorite for when I get to visit this restaurant. My dinner was topped with a hot cup of chai. Totally satisfied!

This is the husband's DAILY workweek lunch destination. And every day it's the Tandoori Chicken Salad that brings him back. So when I had spinal surgery right after Christmas and I was facing a month plus of surgical recovery, we wanted to make it easy for the hubby as my caregiver by having a few reliable takeout meals that we can order for both of us during the week. Biryani Kabab was going to play a big part in that plan, and I had zero complaints. Biryani Kabab is a small place kicking out massive Indian and Punjabi flavors in downtown Oakland. You will find all your favorites here from the more basic butter chicken and chana masala to fiery vindaloo and their namesake biryani. I've not had a dud dish in years of ordering from Biryani Kabab. The tandoori chicken salad has become our must have order, and it's the combination of crisp romaine, carrots, and red onion, plenty of succulent and flavorful pieces of tandoori chicken, a creamy dressing, and grated paneer on top that keep us hooked. You might think the hot chicken and melted cheese would make for a soggy salad, but you would be wrong. Every bite is a perfect combo of crispy plus juicy. Biryani Kebab cooks with whole spices, so be prepared to find whole star anise, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom pods in some of their dishes. The flavors here are off the charts! Other faves for me are the samosa chaat (crisp, hot samosas chopped and then topped with saucy chickpeas, yogurt, onions, mint sauce, and chutney), bindi masala, any of their biryanis, and chicken tikka masala. Their breads and roti are always fresh and make a perfect vehicle for scooping up the last drops of sauce. We have only ever ordered takeout, but there is seating inside. Our experiences ordering at the front counter or over the phone have always been polite and welcoming. Sometimes they get busy during lunch or dinner rush, but we never mind having to hold for a few seconds when calling in an order. Biryani Kebab is one of our "workhorse" restaurants in that we are weekly (and husband is daily) patrons. Their takeout meals helped bring some normalcy to my surgical recovery. We think you should find out for yourself why we are such fans!

    Mango Lassi

Wow speechless! My partner loves Indian food and we've tried a few spots around Lake Merritt, but nothing hit like this one. Whoever's in that kitchen is cooking with love! First time trying mango lassi too so refreshing. I'm full, happy, and ready to binge the new season of The Last of Us!

It was my first time here. The small Lunch Special sign caught my attention as I was walking pass. Service: The staff was very kind. She took my order and I received my food in 5 mins. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala Lunch Special togo. It came with rice, naan and salad. This meal was delicious! The sauce and the naan bread were my favorite. Everything paired so well together! However, I wish there were more pieces of chicken. I would come back again to try their other items.

Tandoor salmon- great flavor, served with some roasted vegetables which were tasty. Slightly overcooked but with the fresh lemon juice and rice it wasn't too noticeable. The service was fine, atmosphere pretty lowkey but nicely decorated and clean. Will definitely return to try more dishes and figure out which suit our tastes the best.

When I approached the front counter, the lady present was very standoffish with me. I informed her of why I was there and she asked my name for the order. Upon giving her my name she then glared at me and literally asked me to recite my entire order lol! I showed her my online receipt in which she then insisted I still tell her my order. She brushed away my receipt and let another customer cut in front of me. Interestingly, the customer told her his name and she retrieved his order with no issue and was very friendly with him. To note, I was the only Black person present at that time. When I inquired as to why that customer wasn't asked to recite his entire order, she grinned and said that he's a "regular" and that I was "new." She went on to let a few other customers cut in front of me. I then asked for my money back in which she refused to return. Even when I asked for the manager, she said he was very busy. I made several requests for this resulting in her saying no and refusing to return my money. I then noted to her I'm calling the authorities in which I did. Furthermore, while servicing some of the other patrons, she would speak in another language with them while they looked at me and start laughing and staring me down. Eventually, the manager came out. He presented himself professionally and upon explaining what occurred he apologized and said it was unacceptable. He even offered me a drink with my meal and asked that I please accept the order instead and wanted to make things right. I took him at face value and said fine. While the situation was remedied, I definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. I researched some of the other reviews and came across several where other Black patrons have had similar racially motivated experiences here. That tells me there's a common practice of racism here. I refuse to support a business where this kind of behavior is tolerated. I have zero tolerance for bigots of any kind. Overall, the experience was a waste of my time and very dehumanizing. To hate someone you don't even know simply because of their skin pigmentation and ethnicity is irrational at best and bad for business especially in a place like Oakland where it's multicultural. My advice would be to not support this establishment. I especially advise any Black patrons not to come here as they clearly have issue with anyone who is simply Black, despite not knowing them as a person. Don't give your money, nor your valuable time, to hateful individuals who dehumanize others. All in all, this place gets a thumbs down.

First, the customer service set the tone. The first server who greeted us was very rude, nonchalant, and standoffish. It honestly felt like we were bothering her just by being there, which made the experience uncomfortable from the start. As for the food, this is definitely not your typical Indian food. The flavors were very different from what we're used to, and not in a good way. My niece absolutely loves Indian food -- we eat it pretty regularly -- but she did not like her dish at all. None of us really enjoyed our meals. We even spoke with the manager about it because we were trying to be reasonable. We explained that the food just wasn't something we could eat and wanted to see if there was any way to resolve it. The manager told us there was nothing he could do because we had already ordered the food, so we ended up paying for meals that we barely touched. If you look at the pictures, it probably looks like we didn't eat much of anything. That's because we really didn't. The only things we were able to eat were the naan and some of the rice. Even the rice didn't come with the meal and had to be ordered separately. Another thing worth mentioning is the portion sizes. The dishes looked more like appetizer portions rather than full meal portions, especially for the price. Between the unfriendly service, the unusual taste of the food, and the fact that we had to pay for meals we didn't even eat, this was not a great experience. Unfortunately, this is not a place we would return to.
