First time at India Palace and it was a comforting Indian food that hits the spot. I had the chicken basmati rice, lamb palak, and Mulligatawny soup -- all warm, flavorful, and well-spiced without going overboard. The lamb palak was rich and savory, the rice was fragrant and fluffy. The spiced lentil soup was smooth, but I preferred one with more texture. I've been coming to India palace for years. It has always been a favorite. I moved away and coming in town for a quick visit I couldn't wait to get my fix. I ordered to go and the food was ready in a timely manner. I happily took the items and headed to share the dinner with a friend. As we started to serve ourselves I was disappointed... Don't get me wrong, the flavor of the chicken tikki was on point. Palak paneer was very good. What was disappointing was the size of the portions. Normally there's enough to two people but I felt like we barely had enough and the majority of what we had was sauce. The samosas I would rave about because they were stuffed with so many veggies and now they felt like the side of won wins, like they were at least half the size, if not more, than what they used to be. read more

Wow, such a disappointment. Got an order to go for dinner with a friend: malai kofta, navrattan korma, paneer tikka, basmati saffron rice, and two lassis, plain/sweet and mango. The mango lassi was the first strike. My friend took a sip and exclaimed, "This doesn't even taste like mango!" I tried it, and she was right: it was bright orange, yet tasted like sweet milk, nothing more. The navrattan korma tasted like nothing. The malai kofta was ok, but given that I'd had the same dish at Khana Peena the night before, it paled by comparison. The paneer tikka came with no sauce--that's my bad for not reading the menu--but as is, was not super interesting. The rice was good. Service was good. Pretty ok Indian food at a solid price if you're going for their lunch buffet. Goat Curry was a bit on the salty side but no complaints on anything else in their buffet. Solid selection of both vegetarian and non vegetarian options as well as free Chai. Not spectacular but also not terrible. read more

Always tasty food and a solid buffet. Been coming here pre covid which had more of my favorites. Naan and rice are decent, butter chicken and goat curry and tandoori chicken is best. Salad and chutney is good. Just wish they brought back the chicken curry, palak paneer and the aloo gobi. Since the remodel the decor is beautiful and layout is great. My last visit was during Covid, outside dinning... This time, I ordered Vegetable Samosa, Malai Kofta, Bhindi Malasa with Basmati Safron Rice and Tandoori Roti. I got hungry, lol. Ordered food on 4/14/26, the food was old. Reached out to Uber eats, they took my complaint. I called spoke with the front desk and the supervisor was to call me back, did not receive a call back. Spent over $180.00. I've gone to this restaurant for over 10 years. This was not my only time paying over $150.00, I just took the hits. Being indian and having had Indian food my whole life - there is a lot this place did not get right. Naan - while tasted fine was not light and fluffy. Their eggplant dish was returned - it tasted mostly of tomato paste. Their chicken tikka masala was more watery than creamy and had a total of 5 pieces of chicken. The saag - delicious. My daughter had samosas she said were delicious and spicy. Mango lassi had more yogurt than anything else. We came on Mother's Day, so take that for what it is. We were seated pretty quickly, given our menus, and then I think our server forgot about us. She came back eventually and took our order. Our food came sans naan. My daughter wanted to take her aesthetic photo so she was waiting for the naan before eating. Probably 10 minutes later, a male, not our server said "oh! The bread!" Came back a few minutes later with the naan. The food was decent. I will say the sauce for the tikka misala was a bit more thin than I was expecting. But flavor was still fine. I guess the male server guy was trying to make it up to us because he brought us a couple desserts with the check. The table behind us, it was a guy and his mom, he had asked probably 3 times for some bread or something because his mom was diabetic and wasn't feeling that great. It had been about 15-20 minutes and no one brought them anything. I asked again for them when we were leaving. I felt bad for them. Im not sure if they were short staffed, or if they aren't used to it being so busy because of Mother's Day. But, hopefully the service is better normally. read more

Good food but service is lacking. We were seated quickly but not given any menus. After a few minutes another server brings over 1 menu and drink menu. After the food was brought out, the person from kitchen that brought didn't say which dish was what. So just had to guess at which was which. The chicken tikka masala and Karahi chicken both kind of tasted the same. The Karahi was kind of like a butter chicken at other places. The plain naan, garlic naan and garlic naan were all good. My family and I have been coming here for years, and we absolutely love the food. Unfortunately, this review is specifically about one young male server whose behavior has consistently been rude. We visited on Christmas Eve, and while the restaurant was understandably busy, the situation was handled poorly. Because of the amount of food we ordered, we briefly used an additional table. Without explaining, the server began moving our dishes. When I asked why, he rudely said he needed the table for other customers. This kind of behavior has happened more than once, which is disappointing given how much we enjoy this place. I have been on this crazy Indian buffet craving for weeks now and was super happy to find this spot close to Oakland. It is rare to find restaurants that still offer buffet so this was a gem. The interior is sun filled and bright which I enjoyed, and had many selections. I only have this a 4 star as the salad and dessert bars were lacking for the price. Dessert would be just fruit, no kheer like I've seen at other places, just gulab jamun. I did enjoy that they had chai available, and nice appetizers such as samosa, but I would generally prefer if all dishes were more spiced and spicy. I came back after two decades and I found the food as tasty as before. It's a very cute and clean restaurant and the waitress greeted me warmly upon arrival. I ordered the Tandoori Mix Grill and I love the chicken and shrimp and lamb was a little dry and needed a little more marination or a bit more garlic to balance the lamb aroma. Though we were the only one, they made sure to check in on us which we appreciated. 5 star customer service! The food was overall good but it did taste like there's been modification from about a year ago as I prefer it to have some stronger spice flavor. I personally LOVE Indian food, but this one was highly disappointing. I ordered chicken tiki masala and had to wait almost a HOUR for my food, I tasted it and the food was basically cold. In the middle of me eating, I found a long black hair strand in my food there is absolutely NO hygiene in this place. The server HIMSELF was also an ABSOLUTE JERK. Every time I encountered him, he acted like it was the end of the world. PLUS THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT is pure RUCKUS! I was in the mood for Indian food so I went after a long time. The last time was so bad, I really did not want to go. But sometimes you are just in the mood. We sat outside in the patio for lunch. Between 4 women, we had an eggplant curry, a cashew paneer, garlic naan, saffron rice, & channa marsala. We even had leftover to bring home. Our collective fave was the paneer! The okra dish was on the spicier side and the eggplant was a little salty. We all liked the naan. We will def return for the paneer! We've been getting takeout from India Palace for 13 years now, ever since we moved to Alameda, and the quality has gone way downhill lately. We ordered the usual last night, and some of it was fine, some was good as usual, and some was terrible. Tandorri chicken was good as usual, and so was the Aloo Gobi. Rice was a bit overcooked, but ok. Naan was yummy. The Tikki Masala sauce, which is usually buttery and delicious, just tasted terrible - like ketchup with milk mixed in it. The $5.00 Mango Lassi came in a dissapointingly tiny 8oz sippy cup - not at all $5.00 worth - and it was warm. The veggie samosas have shrunk in size from baseballs to hackey sacks. And the filling inside isn't what it use to be. One good thing, for the first time in many takeout attempts, all of the items we ordered were in the bag! The last 5 or 6 times we ordered takeout, every order was missing something (or more than 1 something), so this was a pleasant surprise. I hope they can improve, but as of now I'm thinking we'll need to find another place to try. read more

Subtle but good flavors and good size portions. Masala is creamy and tasty with a exceptional addition of naan without losing the flavor of the naan. India Palace has been upgraded from way back when I only used to come for the lunch specials. Upgrades are nice and just enough to not come off pretentious or overdone. Staff was efficient, not particularly chatty. Flavors may be on the lighter side if you are someone who prefers more of a spicy punch in your mommas face type of Indian food. But I prefer distinct flavors as opposed to sucking on a fire extinguisher. read more

Dropped by here for an early dinner before an event at Oakland Arena. We started off with the veggie samosas, and split the vegetable biryani and vegetarian sabzi. Everything was delightful. The samosas were a generous size and piping hot. The chutneys - spicy green and sweet tamarind - were delicious. I loved the biryani, the rice was fluffy and the curry, spiced vegetables and cashews were so good. The sabzi had chunks of potatoes, cauliflower, onions and peppers. One of the few places in Alameda to get Indian food. Unfortunately, we found it just average. The papadam and samosas appetizers were our favorites. But all the mains were lacking in flavor. The shrimp in the prawn vindaloo were overcooked and had a rubbery texture. Chicken biriyani was bland. House red (merlot) was delicious. The servers were fine and very polite. And it is located in a cool building, but there is next to nothing when it comes to interior decorations minus some nice lighting. Some art or Indian esthetics would have been a nice touch. Lost opportunity. Do get the paneer, easily my favorite. For the price not bad. If I come back, would specifically require them to make the food spicier.
