I came to Faction Brewing for an engagement party and had no idea what to expect. From the outside, it seemed very lowkey and almost quiet, but once you walk through to the back, it's a completely different atmosphere. The large outdoor space overlooks the San Francisco skyline, making it an amazing spot to relax with a drink and enjoy the view. Inside, the brewery has a huge warehouse-style space with arcade games and TVs playing the World Cup, creating a fun, laid-back vibe. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a small market with local vendors selling a variety of items, which made the experience even more unique. There was a Mexican food stand outside, so it was easy to grab something to eat while enjoying the brewery. The atmosphere was very family-friendly, with plenty of kids and dogs around, making it feel welcoming for everyone. The beer itself was excellent, with a great variety of flavors to choose from. The staff were incredibly friendly and happy to offer recommendations based on what you like. I'm really glad an event finally brought me here because it's a place I probably wouldn't have discovered otherwise. I'll definitely be coming back to enjoy the great beer, beautiful views, and relaxed atmosphere. read more

Honestly didn't know what to expect from this brewery but was excited for the view of the city. The location honestly is perfect with it being a little hidden so it wasn't overly busy. They have some great beer options as well as have (had) an area with some food that smelled great (just came from breakfast so didn't eat). Definitely would go back to try the food. read more

Having had Faction beers for many years, we've always wanted to get over to the brewery and check it out - and finally we had the chance. Wonderful place. Amazing view outside. We had the dogs so we had to sit outside (dogs are not allowed inside the venue) and it was packed but we managed to share a table with a single person. Dogs loved it. We had some great beers. Area is also great because of the distance of the three breweries right there. I put Bay Area or even Northern California breweries up against any region in the US. I firmly believe we have the best breweries quality-wise of anywhere. They had the flea market going while we were here which was kind of funny to me because most of the sellers had the same thing but it's nice to have and this is a perfect place for it. Parking was kind of crowded but that's to be expected with a popular place like this. Definitely one of the best physical breweries to go to in the Bay Area and great beer here. read more

Brilliant ambiance and a very large spacious venue with some lovely views of the Bay. There is soo much room outside and inside as well. I don't drink as much beer anymore, so I tend to shy away form breweries these days. I swilled several of their beers on past trips. While I thought the beer was good, can't say they were amazing or memorable. The canned beers are currently distributed in California only. They also have a very healthy selection on tap as well and everything is brewed on premises. I'll probably need to return and try everything on the menu again as they do rotate regularly. They don't have a kitchen on premises, but they host a rotating selection of food trucks on a regular basis. One can check the online calendar to see which food truck will be available on a particular day. The staff are easy going and chilll. Fraction Brewing also hosts events on a regular basis and is a great venue for big groups. Did I mention this place has great views? read more

Unique spot in the world. Former hangar/barracks area with a broad view of San Francisco across the water. Enormous and very cool seating and event space indoors, with a wide open outdoor area as well. Bartender seemed all business: no smile, no conversation, which seemed a bit out of place for the overall vibe. Would've appreciated more engagement because we wanted to learn more about the beers but he made us feel like we'd be wasting his time or even annoying him to ask. It's not someplace you'll just run across. Very tucked away and totally IYKYK. Good beers, too, so we'd happily come back. We tried several beer flights and they were all tasty and their n/a pineapple drink was fantastic too. The beer tenders are knowledgeable and friendly as well. Being out right next to where the naval planes would land at the old Navel air station make for a fantastic view of San Francisco and the bay bridge. There was a truck there of which I can't remember the name but "satay" was part of it and yes they serve satay, a satay sandwich smothered with peanut sauce which was pretty good , satay fries which were really good and other tofu dishes. One of my must-visit breweries of my recent trip was Faction, not just because of the excellent beers we've gotten locally from them, but because of their physical location inside a giant military hanger. This entire side of Alameda Island used to be a base and the abandoned warehouses are slowly being converted to businesses including a number of breweries. Faction is at the end, and has an amazing view of The Bay and San Francisco beyond. It's very windy outside, but beautiful sunshine. Parking is free and a huge lot. Inside is the main bar and taproom, it's small but there's lots more seating through the doors and inside the main hanger brewery area, it's amazing how big this place is! The beers on draft were excellent as I expected, but there were so many to try! Even having two flights there were still some I had to let go. The bartender was super friendly and fast to take orders, it was a popular spot. If you're a beer fan exploring the Bay Area, you must come here! There's also a distillery next door. read more

Can't beat the views here - on a clear day you can see the SF Skyline including the Bay Bridge. They have guest food trucks where you can pair your beer with food. You can check the food truck schedule on their website. There's variety of beer on tap for everyone's taste. We tried the pilsner and IPA's. I also tried the Cherry Chocolate Stout. Came to Faction for the record swap event they were hosting. There were so many great records. After digging through the crates, we went to the bar and ordered some beers. They had one IPA on tap, so I tried that (can't recall the name) it was very good. Faction has a huge deck/yard on the back where you can sit and see the San Francisco skyline. It's a nice place to spend an afternoon. There was food truck on the back patio for bites. Service was excellent each round had us greeted with a smile which at some breweries you can tell they'd rather be somewhere else. Everyone in the outside patio was chill no one was overly loud and the music was just loud enough that you could hear it but it didn't make you have to yell to speak to each other. This was my first time ever at this particular brewery and actually in this part of the city! I've only been to their downtown area and acute park that also had a dog park. As we drove onto the up-and-coming old military base, it looked somewhat deserted and something out of a horror movie! Granted it was daytime, a bit nerve-racking with two women driving as if we would get chased or something? Lol. Once we got to the parking lot, you could hear the music and there was definitely a vibe! It was very friendly, outgoing, loud environment, and I loved all the random murals and interesting things within the hanger itself! There was a huge seating area and a baby shower going on with what look like two other parties . We went for a diaper drive and the DJs that were mixing outside, so it was rather windy and I'm wish I brought a jacket! Lol. There was a pop-up taco truck, and the first beer I got was the "spring time "it wasn't very good to me. It tasted like a generic light beer, but the lady said that was most popular. I've been drinking cider beers, so I'm kind of stuck on those. When my friends two other girlfriends arrived, she told me to try the anomaly! She said it's like a stout, and I love scout! It truly was! I got one of those beers and downed it! It was delicious smooth, creamy with a great flavor and after taste!! The bathrooms are in the very, very back all the way down the corridor, which I'm sure they can't change since it's an old military base but there's a bunch of murals and different art pieces as you walk through the hanger to look at as you take the long journey to the bathroom! Lol Overall I wouldn't mind coming back here again, but I would definitely just get the anomaly beer and I wish they would come up with a cider beer. But that's only for me. Lol. read more

3 stars for the beer, I guess I'll give a bonus star for the space. None of the beers really called to me, I don't think any beers were over 6% when I visited (maybe the milk stout was the only one). In general I think craft breweries are getting too expensive. The middle man is being cut out, all distribution is being eliminated, but that doesn't seem to have any effect on price. We still pay bar and restaurant prices directly from the breweries these days. Anyway, the indoor and outdoor spaces are awesome. There are tables inside and out and lots of different seating arrangements. There is cornhole and jumbo size connect 4 outside, there are usually food trucks or some type of food being offered for sale, there is table shuffleboard inside, there is self serve water, clean bathrooms, and great views to be had on clear days. You can bring kids, dogs, there is plenty of free parking and it is a really nice set up. It is worth grabbing a beer just for the vibe and views etc. You can also get a tasting flight if you want to sample multiple offerings. I stop by once in a while if I'm in the area. Not my top choice in the area, but not a bad place to stop and grab a beer or two. read more

Been a fan of Faction from Day 1! I'm a sucker for IPAs and hop bombs and Faction delivers on both fronts. Not to mention they knock it out of the ballpark with stouts, session beers, and an assortment of seasonal lagers and ales that take advantage of the changing temps and available ingredients. But I'll always come back to faction, growler in hand, for their IPAs. They don't kid around here, and dump obscene amounts of grains and hops into their IPAs in order to make it abundantly clear that you're about to have an adventure. The grain bills for their recipes must be sky high, but the quantity of grains also shows up in the quality of taste. Faction brews some real hop monsters with resinous and piney flavor profiles that still don't crush other flavor. I know people rag on big IPAs as being undrinkable, but there's some real artistry in the flavors that Faction is able to coax out of these formulations. And I'm a big fan of not needing to fill up on volumes of liquid just to feel the effects. Some of my fave Faction brews, like their seasonal Blitzen Triple IPA that was available on draft on my visit, has a whopping 10.5% ABV. In this economy, that's some strategic drinking! Faction has both indoor and outdoor seating. And believe me, outdoors is where you want to be. Located right beside the decommissioned Alameda Naval landing field, Faction has unparalleled views of the City, Bay Bridge, and big sky. These are the BEST drinking views in the entire Bay Area. Limited prepackaged snacks can be purchased inside, but a rotating roster of food trucks are generally available outside as well. We went here recently after attending a nearby Vintage Fair. Ironically, they had a Rock and Roll Vintage Fair of their own at the Brewery. Live music, Sales vendors , and food booths and trucks. The beers were Flowing and we ordered a Pilsner, and a West coast IPA. Their were booths with food and merchandise from different genres of music. They had a couple of live bands perform and the place was crowded but there was still a lot of places to sit and enjoy your suds and food. I've been working in Oakland for 18 years, yet this was my first trip over to the decommissioned NAS Alameda and Faction Brewing. Although I've known about Faction in beer circles--seeing it occasionally on tap at Hop Asylum or spotting cans for sale, especially Blitzen during the holiday season--I never got around to visiting the brewery. Why I passed it up for so long, I'll never know. I'd been listening to a podcast about the Port of Oakland and wanted to find some good spots to watch container ships. After heading down Main St. and taking the last left onto Navy Way, I was on my way to Faction with purpose. Having already tried the other local breweries, I wanted to see how Faction stacked up. My 5-stars hinted at greatness, but I needed the details for myself. Finding the parking lot took a minute, as the Faction sign had come loose, but there was plenty of parking right next to the old Naval building. It was a Friday afternoon, just before 5:30pm, and the outdoor space was enormous--fenced in but offering stunning views of the bay, downtown, and the bridges. The sky was clear, and the sunset was warm, painting the perfect backdrop. The Locos Only Fusion Food Truck was there, but I didn't try the food, though it looked as good as the menu sounded. On the wooden patio, I walked inside and was immediately faced with an overwhelming selection of taps. Since I hadn't tried many Faction beers before, I started simple with a pale ale. From there, I ventured on to Ales for ALS 2024 and Votemeal. Each beer was crisp, clean, and full of flavor, and I'm excited to explore more of what Faction has to offer. The location's history alone is worth the visit. Sitting outside as the sun set, with no umbrellas needed, was the perfect way to unwind after a long week. Inside, the tap list was easy to read, complete with hop varietals, and the staff was quick and attentive, answering all my questions--even the ones I already knew the answers to. The taproom had some raised tables in the front room, and there was a back room (hangar) with the restrooms and brewing vats where people could hang out. Overall, it was another great trip to a local brewery. The only downside for me is driving through the Posey Tube, but that's hardly a knock on the beer, staff, or the brewery itself. If you're looking for excellent beer with fantastic views, Faction Brewing is the spot. Cheers! read more

On Saturday was the first day I've ever been here when I first came in. I got greeted by some lady that gave us a beer. Me and my husband were on a date and I felt so comfortable and I felt like it was a good environment. Then we walked back up to the bar then we met some guy. He was a white guy that was very tall with braces. Kept in mind there was 10 people in front of us. None of them got ID'd and all of them were the same race as he was. Me and my husband were the only Mexicans in line so once it came to us, he asked us for an id. Which is understandable at some places, but in this case He didn't ask anybody for identification until he came to us because we were a Mexican and we felt so disrespected. I told him why are you asking us when we got ID from the other lady and he said I want you to show me your id . Then once he seen our id he seen one of us were not from here . And said anybody from out of town I don't serve them so you gotta keep it moving. I never felt so disrespected and embarrassed in my life for me and my husband . He didn't ask anybody until he seen that we were Mexican. This place is so racist. I literally grabbed my stuff and left crying. I was so disrespected and embarrassed. The tall Caucasian with braces that's very tall was the most disrespectful person that was there. We were there Saturday the 8th. Returning back to California to get some breweries off of my want list. Faction Brewing was one of them and it was a fun experience getting their Hella Strata which was a Helles Lager which I do love getting! This Helles is has all of the usual flavor highlights that you can expect from a Helles Lager which includes floral, apple, grainy and hoppy in the Strata Hops way which is the namesake of this beer.
