Such a cute cafe that is hidden away in mount vernon. A definite new go to spot that is loved by the locals.The barista was so friendly and remembered peoples names and families. You walk in, there is all the pastries and kitchen there so you see the process of what's being made. Interior was on point. I ordered the maple iced latte with whole milk - 9/10 actually so good and perfectly sweet without being too sweet. Herb garlic labneh & feta croissant scroll 8/10: super flaky yum I want to try their breads bc that's their speciality. I'm not a huge fan of feta but this was amazing!!

A very interesting cafe! I've never thought to make croissants with any other kind of flour, and I was very impressed with the layers thru were able to achieve! The whole grain flour added a bit of grit, almost nuttiness to the pastry. Their matcha latte was fine, nothing particularly exciting but refreshing to have with the croissant! There's some seating inside and outside. Would recommend trying!

Seylou is known for their variety of bread and baked goods, but they also have a whole coffee menu! Upon walking in, we see bags and bags of different grains and behind the counter where we order, there were loaves and loaves of freshly baked bread. There's not a lot of seating, but we managed to find a table for the four of us this past Saturday afternoon. NITRO - 4.50 I thought this was going to be a 12 oz cup (for the standard small), but it was more like 8 oz! However, it was creamy and chocolatey, and I enjoyed the nitro cold brew. CHOCOLATE ALMOND CROISSANT - 6.75 Dang, pastries be costing a lot these days. This was a nice item to share with my friend, but the croissant was dense. The center of the croissant had a similar texture to bread but there were still a few flaky layers on top. Texture wise, it was on the harder side, unlike the soft and fluffy croissants that usually come to mind. Lots of chocolate and almonds, which ended up being very messy. Overall, it was enjoyable, but I'll try a different pastry next time. My friend got the butter coffee which is drip coffee + butter. This was a very unique drink that ended up being savory and rich, so I'll have to get it the next time I'm here. Another friend got the matcha latte which was weirdly grainy with too much milk. She didn't like it, unfortunately.

Neighborhood coffee shop. Friendly quick service. It's a bakery that serves morning coffee and other morning drinks to start your day. This is the place you want to start your busy day with. These bakers start earlier than you. So the ambience of this place is about the hustle but swooping down and enjoying the process. Smells like morning

Was expecting more from this cafe! Nothing really excited me when I went in and was hard to figure out the flavours of each item. The girl behind the counter was very nice and told me what they had that day and I went with the rhubarb, strawberry and hazelnut scone. The hazelnut overpowered everything else and all I could taste was hazelnut. Slightly disappointed!

Seylou is one of the best local bakeries DC has to offer. Nestled between the neighborhoods of Logan Circle and Shaw, they offer a variety of baked goods and coffee selections to match any person's taste. I absolutely love their vegetable pastries and cold brew, and I order them regularly when I venture here in the morning. Every Wednesday evening they also offer their pizza, which you can order ahead and pick up in the store. While a little on the expensive side, it is quite large and tastes so good. I always have leftovers for the next day. The service is always quick and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating if you'd like to sit and enjoy your purchases at their location. Definitely make sure you get to Seylou soon!

Absolutely amazing pastries with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We ended up getting what she called the french onion soup pastrie (but i think it's real name was something else) and it was wonderful. Super rich with strong cheese and layers of well cooker onion that were just underneath. The bread itself was fluffy and a bit chewy as well. The staff was super friendly, great with recommendations, and was able to heat up our pastrie pretty fast. The atmosphere is bright with lots of natural light coming in and a sleek design. The seating fills up fast but the line wasn't too long.

I tried them at a farmer's market and was sufficiently convinced that I wanted to see the store. I applaud this place for its local and regional focus. There are some quality baked goods here. As a cafe, it leaves something to be desired. I ordered what I thought was a big loaf and ended up being a smaller one, though it was full of as many seeds as could possibly be expected. The labeling was puzzling and the loaves were a bit far for my eyes apparently. A rye cookie was distinctive and on point, and while I mistakenly ended up with a bag of crostini instead of the croutons I thought I was buying, the slightly larger pieces will have no trouble finding a use. I appreciated the option for a golden milk, but in reality it was about 50% golden foam. The shop was cramped, and the price was premium. I'd come back for baked goods, but wouldn't be that interested in dining in.

What's not to like about this bakery? The food, service and ambience are all to die for, and it's a 100% whole grain bakery! As a baker myself, I was THOROUGHLY impressed. What I tried: - Pan au levain loaf: oh my gosh, this fresh bread loaf did not last more than a week. Beautiful tight crumb w a slight chew. You can really tell that the owner of the bakery really knows their stuff. - Cardamom bun: I'm not usually a cardamom fan, but if you are, these would be right up your alley because the cardamom is so well pronounced and the dough was just so pillowy & soft. It was so hard to believe that it was whole grain. - Regular croissant: the whole grain really worked here as the croissant had a more satisfying bite to it whilst still maintaining those flaky layers. - Chocolate croissant: also delicious but I think I would've preferred a bit more of the dark chocolate. - Cinnamon roll w maple ricotta frosting: This one I surprisingly really enjoyed and it had a very unique flavor. I'm not sure it's reminiscent of a classic cinnamon roll but the frosting paired with the beautiful roll was simply a delish bite. - Rye brown butter chocolate chip: so I'm personally a fan of cakey cookies so this hit for me. Solid chunks of chocolate throughout paired w the nutty brown butter base was just exquisite. - Caramelized onion bialy: this one has got to be my favorite. It was just the perfect level of sweet and tangy, caramelized filling and nutty exterior from the bun. - Double chocolate spelt: this one was probably the most unique something that I've never tasted anything like it before. Not one of my favorites, but I loved learning about how spelt can be used in baking!

I was the first person to enter the shop when it opened at 8 but a line soon followed. I ordered a vanilla bean oat milk latte and it was so good. I also had a savory cross isn't with labneh, feta and spinach. I had questions about the ingredients and although there was a line behind me, the cashier eagerly answered my questions. It's pricey. $17 for a latte and a pastry, but I don't regret it. The shop itself is really gorgeous and there's plenty of seating for those who are looking for that work from the coffee shop vibe. I'll definitely be back.

I've tried most of the bread bakeries in DC proper and Seylou is cranking out the best loaves. They select special grains and then mill them themselves, so of course it will be excellent. They also do a long ferment, making the loaves more flavorful and easier to digest - win, win. I've also tried several of their pastries, which I would call rustic and delicious. On Wednesdays they make pizza, which is also excellent, but not the best in the city. Why not 5-stars? The sticker shock for their bread is real. I understand what goes into their process and I appreciate it, but one of their loaves was $18. Their matcha latte is also very sad, it was pale green and had very little flavor. I'm sure their coffee is great, but if you aren't doing matcha well, maybe don't offer it. Overall, one of the best bakeries in DC (maybe the best) and worth a visit!

The freshest pastries I've ever had. We heard about this place from a well known bakery in Raleigh. They mill their own grain which isn't too common so we knew we had to come. You could tell the locals knew this place was good despite maintaining a low profile. We got half a loaf of rustic sourdough bread, a regular and almond croissant then a cinnamon bun. Bonus - we were able to take home some starter!

The housemaid vanilla are up in the vanilla latte had great flavor and was not overly sweet. They didn't have a variety of milk options or your coffee drinks. A small table outside in minimal seating inside makes this bakery best for takeout. Staff was friendly and efficient. When we came, but I could see how there may be a line of times based on how good the pastries were and how small the storefront space. As bonus points, the merch is super cute with the little wiener dog on it!

That's when I stumbled onto Sharbat. It's a rather quaint and cute Azerbaijani bakery and as I was window shopping all the cakes and baklavas, someone across the counter says "let me know if you have any questions" and I look up to see an angelic beautiful woman (this does not affect my rating haha) but I guess I wasn't expecting to see that. Anyway, she went through explaining various pastries and had a couple Turkish ones as well. I went with a pistachio baklava and a slice of honey cake. Honestly, I wanted to try all the cakes and even though they say honey cake is their most popular, there were a few that looked more appetizing. However, slightly convinced by the one other customer there eating her slice of honey cake, I decided to try it. I've only had honey cake once before so I won't act like I know what's best but that time the layers were thinner which I prefer but I like how it wasn't overly sweet despite it being honey forward. The baklava was one of the best, but I probably say that about most baklavas.

But now I suggest that Sharbat is a bakery for people who think they don't like baklava. My friends finally persuaded me to try some, and oh man is it good. It's nothing like the baklava I know. Perhaps because it is made Azerbaijani style - at the eastern end of Turkish culinary reach. It is more cakey and less sweet. But still plenty sweet, with a nice nutty crunch. I don't know whether to kiss or curse my friends for turning me on to this, but now I know. And now so do you.

I went with a friend to support local businesses. We were excited because the reviews were pretty solid. However, once we ordered, we were greatly disappointed. I ordered a Matcha Latte and the servers simply poured milk into a dirty worn out cafeteria plastic cup and dumped matcha powder in it without stirring or blending or adding any flavor. The picture shown below is after I mixed the powder into the milk more. My friend ordered a caramel frappe (not pictured) and the drink lacked caramel. It was simply blended milk and ice. The making of our drinks did not reflect a "cafe" style nor experience. Moreover, the food was below lackluster. The Northern Capital sandwich looked amazing in theory; however, I received one small piece of chicken on a large hoagie roll drenched in mayo with 3 pieces of spinach and a slice of avocado. In my opinion, the portions definitely did not match the price of the sandwich. Furthermore, my friend ordered the Steak & Cheese which came without cheese. After this, my friend and I did not drink the Latte and Frappe. We ate a small portion of the sandwiches to give the restaurant a fair chance, but we were beyond disgusted with the drinks. Therefore, we asked for a refund or the server to re-make them. To which the server laughed in our face with a nasty attitude replying, "Absolutely not!" I absolutely hate to leave a 1-star review on a local restaurant, but I could not go on without warning others to avoid the "cafe" portion of this place if you value your money. Fortunately, we went to a local restaurant nearby afterward to cleanse our palette and thoroughly enjoyed the service and food. More importantly, the prices were comparable to this place but they provided much larger portions and great service.

The crumble top was terribly underdone with dry oats and no texture whatsoever to help save the filling at all. Crust was doughy and under cooked. Warming it would not have even helped at all. Brownie pie- I was so disappointed. I do not usually go for brownies, but the way the top of the pie looked pretty well baked I went for it super excitedly on first glance. Instant regret on the first bite. All I tasted was an overwhelming sweetness overload and then a shock of salt instead of balance. The worst part was, the center of the pie was all goop and the caramel infused into it almost made it worse. I hated the texture and I am not usually a texture person. I was super disappointed. I ate three bites, and it went to the trash. I was expecting at least a soft chewy brownie baked into pie crust, similar to a brownie cookie. Big let down. The pumpkin pie- had a weird sour after taste to it like the wrong type of milk was used when baking it. I wanted to love this one so badly, but got half way done eating it and just could not. This was very unfortunate, because the filling structure was perfect, but the filling itself was bland and sour. The crust was once again doughy and undercooked. No brown golden crust in sight. The pies were given to the 909 apartments on 11/25/25 as a way to celebrate Pie day. I really appreciate the small business effort. I love supporting them too. Honestly though, I am so glad those pie slices were free, because unfortunately, I would not waste my money buying from them unless they make some huge changes. All the crusts were undercooked and doughy, and I did not finish any of the pies entirely. I would add pictures but I was so disappointed, I did not bother taking any, and I am a foodie, so I usually take pictures of all my food dishes. Please I mean no harm. I am just giving my honest constructive feedback. I will see if I can add a google review with pictures. I am an honest reviewer and I believe having pictures helps people visually understand better sometimes too.

I'm a sucker for cherry pie, and these looked really yummy so I snatched one up on an impulse buy. And boy, I wasn't disappointed. Cool, sweet, tart cherry filling, not syrupy or overly sickly sweet, surrounded by crispy crumble on a nice crust. This pie didn't last too long in our kitchen. I can't believe I haven't seen Whisked! pies before, but now I know that wherever I see one, I'm definitely gonna pick one up. You should, too! These pies are fantastic.
