This is only the second time I ordered from Sexton's. It seems to be very popular in Columbus, but I do not prefer it over Katie's pizza. The sausage on Sexton's was mealy and the pepperoni cups were sparse. I also am not a fan of the crust which seems to be thicker and more chewy than I prefer. I did not notice any extra cheese at all as ordered. After having lunch at their nearby burger bar we wanted to try the full Sextons experience so we grabbed a pie for Sunday. After getting the pizza it looked so good so we tried a slice in the car. This pizza is unlike many spots in Columbus where it's cut in squares yet nearly close to all of that areas spots are trying to copy or piggy back off of Donatos. This was traditional cut with a unique crust flavor. The toppings flavor profiles of the meat were great as well. Furthermore it had plenty of cheese. First timer at Sexton's Gahanna. 5* NY style. Great tasty crust, wow on the cupped pepperoni, and the cheese is just outstanding. Only drawback tonight, there was no one to serve beer since all four employees were under 21. The beer on tap selection was very good, which made not getting a beer even worse. This one was pretty straightforward. Atmosphere is what you would expect out of a new York style pizza shop. Smaller, slightly dated, and "dingy" but not gross by any means. It's exactly what I would have expected for what it is. Service was good and the cashier was friendly and helpful. All smiles and didn't seem to hate her job which was nice. Even accommodated half/half pizza for the kids. For food we got the ny style pizza and picked the Smokey Robinson, half no jalapeños for the little ones. The pizza was fresh, hot, and hate a good crunch. Just good classic pizza that I would eat over and over again. We also got the garlic knots which were tasty and the marinara sauce was well seasoned. My friend had been telling me about this place for weeks. You have to order online, and I never seemed to be able to beat the rush. But I decided I would get up early and order ahead of time. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, and for a got a side of the ranch and hot honey on the side. I thought the pizza was just okay, maybe I have to try one of their specialty pizzas. IF there were a way to give a rating LOWER THAN ONE STAR, I WOULD GLADLY DO IT. Without question, my experience dealing with SEXTON'S PIZZA was a total disaster and complete waste of time and money. I guess your last name must have to be PORTNOY in order to get GOOD SERVICE and a FRESH, CORRECTLY PREPARED PIZZA when you visit this joint. Because for me, an "average John," this did not happen. My order was simple: New York style pepperoni with regular cheese and extra sauce. I did not feel the need to tell the person who took my order to make it "CRISPY" because according to all the reviews and the pictures on the website, this was SEXTON'S specialty. The person on the phone also told me that the pizza would be ready in 30 minutes, and again, based on all the information I read about SEXTON'S popularity, I assumed that would be the case. Unfortunately, 30 minutes later, I was unpleasantly surprised. When I arrived, the joint was COMPLETELY EMPTY. There were no customers waiting in line. But despite the joint's emptiness, it seemed like I had to wait an eternity for an employee to notice I was at the counter. When they finally brought my $25 PIZZA out to me, I immediately noticed that the box was NOT WARM AND ITS CONTENTS WERE AS COLD AS AN ICEBERG. I asked the employee how long my PIZZA had been sitting out and informed them that person who took my order told me its would take at least 30 minutes. I told the employee that most customers prefer their food to be hot and I would have shown up earlier if I HAD ONLY BEEN INFORMED to do so. But the employee had no explanation why this happened and MADE NO EFFORT TO CORRECT THE SITUATION. Hmmm...WOULD THEY HAVE TREATED DAVE PORTNOY or some other celebrity or food critic this way? And when I opened the box to inspect the PIZZA, it was not evident if the EXTRA SAUCE I HAD REQUESTED had been added. But the employee ASSURED me that it had been. I was tired and hungry after working all day. Plus, I was only going to be in Columbus for a few more days, so I RELUCTANTLY paid my $25. This act turned out to be the WORST DECISION I COULD HAVE EVER MADE. When I returned to my hotel room, my first bite confirmed what my eyes noticed when I first inspected the PIZZA at the restaurant: THERE WAS NO EXTRA SAUCE ADDED TO THE PIZZA!! In fact, there was HARDLY ANY SAUCE at all!! Also, despite some MINOR CHARRING on the edges, THE PIZZA WAS TOTALLY DEVOID of ANY CRISPNESS. The CRUST was barely blackened. In fact, the CRUST was SOGGY and CRUNCH-LESS. Consequent bites were even worse DUE TO THE EXPENSIVE PIE'S lack of sauce. Decided I was going to finally check this place out. First thing to know is they only have large pizzas. Ordered a pepperoni and cheese pizza. The dough is made perfectly, nice and airy with the slightest char to it. They use a medley of cheeses on it that melts nicely. On to the pepperoni, for me it wasn't cooked enough but that is my opinion. I am used to cooking with Ezzo's Cup and Char pepperoni. If they made different sizes I might return but everything I've read online from them that isn't happening. read more

Wow. I would write this review solely for my experience with pick up. The front of house staff you have out there was on their A GAME tonight. The second I walked in I was met with a smile. The woman was so friendly and chipper. I think she improved MY mood with her positivity, ha. More importantly I suppose, the pizza is good! It has a crispy crust that gives you a satisfying crunch. Ugh. So good. Their house made ranch is creamy and tangy. And their garlic knots are plush and flavorful. Big fan of the marinara. I'd love to come back and enjoy a pie in the storefront. Our family loves pizza and follow Dave Portnoy, found this place because of him and disagree with his 8.1.......it's definitely higher, more like an 8.3-8.5! This place is awesome, LOVE the crunch on every bite, the cheese isn't greasy, and the pepperonis are perfect. We are going to make this place a weekly visit. All the staff was super friendly and the pizza came out fast. We always dine in, and the place had great music also. They even gave our kids cookies after we were done. Born and raised in New York I consider myself a pizza expert. I absolutely love Sextons pizza and my advice to the owner is never change your ingredients. You have nailed cooking the perfect pizza. After hearing about Sexton's review by Dave Portnoy, it was on the top of my list to try out! I ordered through Door Dash because the wait time was much shorter than the website and there was a 5% discount. I decided to wait longer than the estimated time since the website projected a 2hr wait, then headed over to the Gahanna location. Upon arrival, there were a good number of parking spots for the strip mall stores, but there were also larger parking lots within walking distance. The store is small, so definitely not good for large groups. I walked in and waited for a few minutes while a dine-in customer ordered. The employee was kind and patient in helping the customers (it seemed like it was their first time). After they ordered, I was immediately helped and my pizza was waiting for me. The pizza wasn't freshly hot as I had to travel about 15min both ways, but it was still warm when I got home. The pizza: Size: 16" NY style is just enough for a family of 3 but you'll definitely want to order two if you're very hungry or have a larger family. Crust: wood fired and chewy, but not a fluffy chewy. The crust is thicker/chewier than other wood fired styles but it was definitely hearty. Sauce: not as sweet as most places in the area. I wish the pizza had more sauce on it. Toppings: the cheese was really flavorful but a tad salty. The pepperoni cups were really good and crispy. This is our second time trying Sexton's Gahanna and we are fans! At this location, I would recommend ordering for pick up, there is a small seating area but ambiance isn't great for eating in. Service has also been good both times - we are greeted promptly and the orders are ready on time. This time we got the Mike! NY style; Nashville Hot Chicken Motown style; fried pickles; and pepperoni chips. We previously ordered the cheese garlic bread, but were underwhelmed and didn't purchase that our 2nd time around. The Mike! pizza got an 8.5/10 for us. Great flavor and crispy NY style crust, we were just wishing we got a bit more red sauce. Nashville Hot Chicken was a 7.5/10 - Motown crust is buttery and delicious, nice amount of cheese, and chicken had great flavor. There was literally no heat though, we thought it definitely needed more hot sauce. The pepperoni chips and fried pickles are great sides and both receive an 8/10. We think the pepperoni chips are a bit overpriced for the portion size though. We will definitely be returning and just tweaking our order to get the pizza exactly how we like it! read more

Made the trek to Hilliard to try this pizza joint and was not disappointed! They have a fun pizza menu and an extensive beer list as well. For pizza you pick your flavor and then your crust type. We tried the nashville hot Motown Detroit crust (my absolute fave crust and flavor we got, the mike! NY style, and the Kevin bacon bar pie. I had heard the Kevin bacon won an award but personally cared for that one the least and I don't dislike bacon on pizza. Maybe just didn't care for the flavor of this bacon. Service was great. Casual vibe. The demographic was a hodge podge... date night, parents with kids, a group of kids that looked like they were teammates, younger couples/friends, etc. It also definitely felt like a place that had a bunch of regulars. I know they use local, quality ingredients which is great. It was on the pricier side for a casual pizza joint pizza. It was a little over $120 for those 3 pizzas, 5 beers (12 oz cans) and 2 glasses of white wine. This was for 4 people total... had a little left to take home. We have been to the Hilliard location twice now in the last 60 days. Small place with great service both times. Sat at the bar last time we went service was great and friendly from Candy the bartender. The New York style pizza was fantastic. It lives up to its 8.1 rating on the Portnoy scale. The only I'm considering here is the pizza. As soon as I walked it it smelled like I was in a New York Pizzeria. It looked like New York, the grease was New York. The crust was like coal oven and some may not care for that but I am ecstatic that it still had the NY flavor. I know peoples taste is regional and what you grew up on and for me this was best in the 40 years I live here. Sexton's didn't disappoint, while there was a lot of foot traffic taking orders to go, I decided to eat in. They have a number of tables for guests to use, and the staff was super friendly. My order was quick and ingredients were fresh and top shelf. I had asked for green peppers and they informed me that they don't have them at the moment because the current order wasn't up to their standards. That's amazing to me, that they would refuse sub-par produce to protect the quality of the product. The pie came out hot and was quite enjoyable. This is SO close to a 5 star review! It's a 4.5 without a doubt! I can't tell you how satisfying this pizza was. I had been on a work trip that was pretty brutal and just wanted something comforting and delicious. Sextons nailed it! We got the Kevin Bacon and garlic knots. WOW! I must say that this is the best pizza I've ever had in my life. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the sauce ( while amazing ) was not spread out to the edges so I could only taste a bunch of it in the center. The ordering system reported our pick up time for our order placed at 4:45pm would be 6:45pm, which is long, but would have been fine if when we picked up the pizza it was hot. Unfortunately the box was cold to the touch the pizza inside wasn't much hotter. The candied bacon and pepperoni are a winning flavor combination, but the pepperoni was burnt on the outside crust and completely uncooked in the center. Sexton's Pizza in Gahanna: So I have seen this place in Reynoldsburg and have been afraid to try it out. The reason for my fear was because I listened to someone tell me that their sauce is sweet. I am not a fan of sweet sauce or crust on a pizza, so when I was told this, I decided this wasn't going to be the place for me. After much coaxing from some fellow pizza lovers, I decided today was the day to try it out for myself. I am glad I did. Customer service was pretty dope. Carlee helped guided me through my pizza decision. I got cup char pepperoni + sausage that they get from a local butcher, for now. The pizza is pretty solid. Whoever told me this pizza was sweet has some wrong functioning tastebuds. The sauce is more on the light spicy + acidic + savory side that hits you with a slick mildness once it glides over your tongue. The sausage and cup char pep were a great combo together as usual. The cheese's taste brought me back to the days of the string cheese that we used to eat as snacks as a child. The crust possesses the right amount of saltiness and has a crunch underneath that made me long for the classic Brooklyn New York pies. read more

I am a lover of a basic cheese pizza light sauce and this one was honestly perfect. I especially loved it dipped in their thick garlic sauce cup.
