I brought my computer in to SewellTech because I had some minor liquid damage to my MacBook and wasn't willing to pay the absurd price Apple quoted me at. The only issue the computer had at the time was that it wouldn't charge properly and they quoted me at $368 to replace the board and the battery. When i got the computer back I was told by Luis (my technician) that everything was tested and to be in perfect working order, however, after getting my computer back i noticed immediately that the MagSafe port would get scaldingly hot. The surface of the computer would also get extremely hot and my MacBook charger was also starting to turn yellow and fray despite being just 2 months old. I knew that something was wrong and therefore brought it back for repairs once again. After about a week they told me that they had once again replaced the board, the battery, the charging port, and also added that since they didn't have my exact Logic Board in stock they upgraded it with a better processor "free of charge". I was immediately skeptical of someone upgrading my computer for free, and of course when i got my computer back, it was now having NEW issues with the battery. The battery indicator on my computer was displaying absurdly long amount times to charge (8.5 hours to full charge), it would die unexpectedly while at 6% battery life, and had a whole host of other issues. Instead of going back to SewellTech i took it to the Apple Store where they ran diagnostics and found that the battery had issues and needed to be replaced. I emailed David a copy of the failed battery diagnostics and was furious at him for lying to me and demanded that he refund me the cost of battery replacement. He asked me to bring in the computer so he could personally look at it himself, which I begrudgingly agreed to do. After looking at it for a few days he said he ran diagnostics and that the battery was perfectly fine and that my charger was most likely the issue. He also told me that Apple computers tend to be inexact and that the battery indicator can be off by several percent and that nothing i mentioned was unusual. Both his answers here are complete bullshit, and at this point I knew David was just trying to con me. My charger was only a few months old, had been inspected by Apple less than a week ago, and was confirmed to be perfectly fine by an Apple Store technician. I've also had multiple MacBooks and iMac's for almost 15 years and have never seen any MacBook have the type of battery issues that it currently has after David and his "technicians" performed "repairs". To be 100% certain I also called Apple afterwards and spoke to an Apple Technician who told me that the battery issues I was having are not normal and that David's explanation was 100% nonsense. To sum things up, going to SewellTech has been an absolute nightmare. David and his staff are grossly incompetent at performing repairs and they make up lies to cover up their shoddy work, hoping that people will be ignorant and naive enough to believe them. I also found out that despite being an Apple Authorized Servicer, when they replace parts on your computer they do not use original Apple Parts but instead use third party parts - which are often cheap and unreliable. This explained why my board was upgraded "free of charge" and why the battery was also failing Apple Diagnostics - because they weren't new and they weren't even Apple parts. Look folks, I really don't care where you go to get your computer fixed but please don't go here - David is a grade A con-artist and makes a living by defrauding his customers. David is also a complete asshole and a repugnant human being. My MacBook is now filled with cheap refurbished third-party parts, has a myriad of issues, and will have to be taken back to Apple for more repairs. I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the BBB and will be taking David to court for all losses. I'm sure David will reply to this post with some half-assed nonsense and falsehoods but don't believe any of it! They performed the free keyboard replacement for a new macbook pro when apple store refused to do it because there was a microscopic chip in the monitor on the top bezel (they claimed that they would have to replace the monitor in order to replace the keyboard which makes zero sense). This place is an Apple Authorized Service Provider. HOWEVER, they want the password to your device in order to provide repairs. NEVER EVER EVER EVER give out your password! Don't be an idiot like me. I took my Mac here for repair after scheduling an appointment through Apple.com/support. And I locked my computer before I left. They called me 15min after I left to ask me for my password. WHY!??? I just gave it to them because it's Apple authorized right? NO. They emailed me an hour later saying my computer needed all these parts ordered to be fixed before my AppleCare ran out BUT did not specify what parts or why. If there's something wrong with my computer, shouldn't you be able to explain what? I rush back over there to grab my computer before anything could be taken apart or my friggin identity could be stolen. If you need your Mac fixed, just take it to Apple okay? I had been locked out of my Macbiik air for over 8 months! I I called Apple so many times and finally figured out it was my internal time clock that's as set to April 15, 1975 for some akward reason so it couldn't connect to the server and sign me in. This also prevented Apple to be able to give me any helpful assistance by phone since the locations were closed for covid. I thought I had no hope until an Apple Care supervisor finally referred me to Sewell Tech. I was almost hopeless by this point but luckily I took my computer in. It took them only a couple of hours and when they called me to pick my computer up! It was literally good as new! Do not take your phone here. I'm sure they're a great place to go for computers and laptops, but definitely not for phones. Unfortunately, I was on a time crunch and needed someone to help replace my iPhone screen today. Now my home button is extremely loose and my phone is not operating properly because of it, so I went back. When I took it back to the guy at Sewelltech (Think his name was David) and I explained that the home button was loose and the phone wasn't operating properly because of it. His initial reply aka first excuse/lie was that the home button was normally loose. I reassured him that wasn't the case with my phone after having the screen replaced twice before with no issues. He then proceeded to explain that when you take the home button out of the cracked screen you lose the integrity due to the adhesive; which is a direct indicator that the screen is after market. This also doesn't help explain why the fingerprint for my phone doesn't work at all now. When Apple replaces your iPhone screen they replace the whole front unit of your phone, which includes your home button and comes in one connected piece. You'll know this because when you check the settings "Touch ID & Passcode" option after replacing a screen all of your "Fingerprints" options will be gone/removed. That being said, they ended up calling me back (Second time I've returned) about 5 minutes after leaving to tell me they forgot to replace the screws at the bottom of the phone. On top of all of this they charged me $10 more than what the Apple Store charges. In summation, do not take your phone here to get it fixed because you'll be utterly disappointed and will have to go back. They honestly do not seem like they know what they're doing and are trying to cover it up. Your best bet is going straight to the Apple Store and not one of their "resellers." Surprisingly the actual store for once is cheaper and it will get done correctly. read more

Found this place via Yelp suggestions, and I'm glad it came up! My MacBook Pro recently got some slight water damage (really annoyed because it was literally not even a splash of water) and short circuited and died on me. I took it to the Apple Store, who told me that because my Apple Care was over, it would cost me about $280+tax for them to fix it. Came to Sewelltech and they told me they would look at it and give me a call. I was expecting a couple of days at least, but they called me the next day and told me that it had been fixed and was ready for pick up. Honestly, I don't know how to feel about it, because I specifically asked them to call me after diagnosing the problem (diagnostics are free!) so that I could decide whether I wanted to pay to fix it or just overall replace the computer. But since they opened it up and fixed it immediately, they went ahead and charged me the service fee of $110+tax/hr. I mean, still cheaper than the Apple Store, but I wish there could've been a way they told me that they would be able to fix it easily and gotten the okay to go ahead and fix it. However, what's done is done and my laptop was quickly fixed. Also, when I messaged the owner on Yelp with my question, they were very quick to respond, so thumbs up for that! read more

This is a tough review because up until this experience I have referred at least 8 people to Sewell Tech. Dropped off my IPhone to replace the glass screen, what should have taken 2 hours took an entire day before they finally told me the phone would not calibrate and could not be repaired. They ordered a replacement for me which took 4 days. I requested to be contacted by the owner, David Sewell, but never heard from him. Apparently he had zero interest in learning about my frustrations or what went wrong. I can no longer recommend this company simply because there seems to be zero empathy for the client when things do go wrong. My laptop screen suddenly blacked out and the display wouldn't show although I could still hear the laptop itself turn on and off. I called Apple and tried all of the troubleshooting options but no luck. I needed my laptop fixed ASAP for school and none of the Apple stores had appointments that day, so I set an appointment with Sewelltech. I dropped my laptop off the same day for a diagnostic test (which is free). Their communication system is very efficient, which is always a good thing when there's an anxious customer (me). I filled out a form on the iPad with my phone number and email. It was about 2-3 hours later that I received an email about the diagnose and to my surprise the cost to fix my screen was nearly $600. Apparently they needed to order a new screen because my display failed, which was around $470 + service fee. I freaked out a little at first, but I calmed down and actually considered paying the $600 to get the screen fixed since I really needed my laptop to do school work. Then, I decided to pick up my laptop the next day to bring it to the Apple Store on Knox St., which was about 10-12 minutes away from Sewelltech. If Apple couldn't do anything about it, then I would bring it back to Sewelltech and pay the $600 to get it fixed. To my surprise (again), the tech at the Genius Bar fixed my laptop in less than 30 minutes...for free! Apparently the disk got a little dusty and he just cleaned it for the display to show. I was relieved that I didn't have to spend any money at all. Maybe the techs at Sewelltech didn't run enough tests to diagnose my problem, or for whatever reason it was overlooked. I'm sure this store is as good as the other Yelpers claim it to be, but my experience almost cost me $600 when all the tech at the Genius Bar had to do was clean the disk for the display to show on the screen again. read more

The transaction went ok but 9 months later they emailed saying I had not paid. When I told them I paid the full amount when I picked up my computer they demanded proof. I ask what was going on and why they we asking for a payment 9 months later when I already paid. They told me they just found out one of their employees was stealing money from the company. I have the first-generation Macbook Pro with Retina display and it has definitely had it's fair share of service visits compared to the previous Macs that I've owned. Sadly, I did not discover Sewelltech until just weeks before my Applecare was expiring (BTW-they are an authorized Applecare repair point and the warranty process is seamless). These guys are amazing. The experience can be summed up as the "anti"-Apple Store, and I will explain why that is such a great thing. Lately it seems that scheduling a Genius Bar appointment for a Mac is a lot like getting cable installed: the dates are usually well in the future and the times are comically random. Three weeks after receiving my computer back from Apple service via the Apple Store, my screen goes on the fritz, and the display becomes completely unreadable. Then I remember my promise that I'd sooner put a campfire out with my face than return to the Apple Store. Enter Sewelltech. NOTE: From here, I'll make an earnest attempt to stop embedding my lousy review of the Apple Store's repair services so and focus on Sewelltech. 1. SERVICE/APPOINTMENT AVAILABILITY-Luckily, you won't find smug "Geniuses" here. At Sewelltech, as a walk-in!, I was literally able to snag a storefront parking spot (fistpump!), was promptly greeted by the friendly intake specialist who had an information form ready for me to fill out, and managed to enter all of my computer's id's into their system before I finished the form. The next thing I hear is that, although some repairs are done while you wait, it would be best for me to leave it overnight. At this point I have the printed receipt, my computer is already in the back, and I hop back into my shaded, primo parking spot 5-10 minutes from my arrival. I start to question everything. This HAS to be too good to be true. (When you have the same thought on your visit--and you WILL--tell your inner Genius to pipe down and try to remember it's 15 digit AppleID password's required special characters). 2. REPAIR PROCESS-Driving home, I get a call from my technician (Greg, I think?, but he shall be referred to as such from here). He has examined my computer, tells me that his hunch is simply replacing the display will cure it, but he is required by Applecare service to follow their troubleshooting chain of command which insists that my Logic Board be replaced. While this adds to the time because parts have to be ordered, I am thankful that the repair technician called me directly and was polite, knowledgeable, and refreshingly up-front about everything. We both agree it's odd for the logic board to be replaced, since this was done just 3 weeks ago during the last repair. The next afternoon, I call in to check the status (they have a direct extensions for every technician that could be working on your device! More kudos.) Greg(?) tells me that his initial suspicions were confirmed, and that I only need a new screen and this would be overnighted. Shortly after the store opens the next morning, I get another call from Greg, confirming the computer display is installed, looks great, and I can pick it up ASAP. He jokes that if my computer case smells of cleaner, it's because he giving it a scrub necessary more than a lightyear ago. couldn't believe I hadn't hadn't taken this step long ago, done this to the case. Pickup/Conclusion: Equally as smooth and efficient as the drop off. Walking in, I am handed my newly cleaned laptop, informed that I have a brand new logic board/retina LCD screen. Again, fast, convenient. I felt everyone I encountered went above/beyond. For calls, having the direct ability to speak with your the technician is a joy. It's not their technical ability it's just their business model that makes it impossible for me to recommend Sewelltech if your Mac is malfunctioning and you're paying for repairs out of pocket. So here's my warning, based on my experience. I agreed to pay $65 for a diagnosis of the problem with my iMac. By "diagnosis", however, evidently they mean only the first problem they encounter. They do not mean that they will take steps to determine whether there are other problems beyond the first one. They should call this the "initial diagnosis" and explain that there might be other problems which will need further diagnosis after "initial repairs". But they don't. They misleadingly call it a "diagnosis". Therefore, when they tell you what the problem is, know that there are likely other problems which have yet to be discovered. Also know that it's $110/hr + materials just to arrive at further diagnosis. So when I took my machine in for a "diagnosis", and they said it was the hard drive, it cost me $281 to find out it was not only the hard drive but also the video card. Unfortunately for me, new video cards are no longer available for my machine, so I just paid $281 to find out that Sewelltech would not fix my computer. It would have been helpful if a complete diagnosis had actually been performed before asking me to drop so much coin on an older machine. I simply wouldn't have spent the money. But maybe that's the purpose of the diagnostic protocol in the first place. 2 stars for Greta, the office manager, who is a lovely person, and the speed of service--whatever they did, they did quickly, I'll give them that. read more

I waas sent here by Apple, took my macbook in with a spill...was told less than 2 hrs later it needed a $1700+ repair. I took it to Hardin in Arlington for a second opinion and less than 1/4 of that repair price later I'm sitting here typing this review on it, it's running perfectly fine. Either the tech had NO idea what he was doing or he didn't even really care to look! I almost ended up having to buy a new laptop--and it WOULD NOT have been another Apple after this. read more

I would recommend taking photos of your equipment before giving it to them. When I got my MacBook Pro back, it had a ding/nick on it. I am certain the ding wasn't there prior to it being serviced; it was practically new. I decided to email them about it. I didn't ask for any type of monetary compensation. I simply told them that I was upset and asked that they train their employees to be more careful with other customers' delicate, expensive equipment in the future. When Mr. Sewell responded to the email, he implied that I was lying. "I'm sorry you were disappointed," was the gist of the response, then he went on to defend his team, and stated I could come in to document the situation. I think I would've been less upset if the apology had come across as a bit more sincere and less defensive. This was not great customer service! As far as their technical knowledge goes, my issue, apparently, turned out to be a simple reset issue. But, again, I would recommend taking pictures of your equipment before leaving it with them. If you don't, and it's returned with some sort of external defect, you'll pretty much be written off as a liar. UPDATE based upon Business Owner's response: As I told Mr. Sewell, my mother dropped the computer off for me and picked it up; I was at work. This is why nothing was mentioned about the nick during pickup: My mother is likely not as familiar with my machine as I am, so she likely didn't notice the nick one way or the other. I, in fact, DID mention this "key detail" to Mr. Sewell; I'm not sure how many times I have to repeat it before it sinks in. My mother treats expensive equipment like newborn babies, so I am certain she didn't nick it. I'm not really sure how returning to document the situation will be helpful. Will it miraculously un-ding my Mac?! Regardless, being argumentative with the customer is not the best way to do business. Good luck to any future customers and I again encourage them to photograph their equipment before leaving it with Sewelltech! read more

Being the idiot I am, I had not backed it up, but David and the team were able to recover all my data and install a new hard drive. I dropped it off on a Thursday and it was ready for pickup on Monday! talk about some speedy service. This place is the greatest to fix Apple products. We thought my son's 2010 MacBook Pro had been dropped and damaged because the back was warped and separated at a corner and wouldn't turn on. Couldn't get an appointment at an Apple Store for at least 2 weeks. Thought for sure we were going to have to buy a new one. Sewelltech said to bring it in the day I called. Dropped it offFriday at 4pm. They sent email by 5:30 saying it was a ruptured dead battery and they had the parts to fix it. They included price and got my approval for repair. I received another email on Saturday afternoon saying it was fixed and I could pick up anytime on Monday. David was our technician. He replaced battery and touchpad, smoothed out warped back and cleaned up keyboard. After 5 years of college use it looked new again. Great, professional, knowledgeable staff.
