This was how much hair I lost after taking out the weave 4 weeks later.

I came to Sew Brooklyn to get tracks sewn in the back of my hair but because I am inexperienced when it comes to weaves, I was told that I actually should have gotten the Sew Flippin' Cute. I was also told that I needed to purchase hair at the salon instead of the hair I had purchased from the beauty supply store because the hair I had would get "tangled and matted" quickly. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this service. Not only were the tracks sewn in too tight to my hair, but when I took the weave out (only 1 month later despite how I was told I could keep it in for 8 weeks), I lost so much hair and was shocked by the hair loss (see photo below). I believe there were too many tracks in my hair and the tightness with which they were braided in caused my hair to fall out. Along with that, the hair I was instructed to buy from the salon also got matted and tangled within the 2nd week of wearing it. I had to remove some of the tracks myself because of how bulky the weave looked toward the top of my head and still struggled to style the hair in a way that looked natural unlike what I was told at the salon. I was told this hair could last for years but after shampooing and conditioning it like I would my normal hair, it still does not look the same as it did when it was first installed. I am deeply disappointed and discouraged that my own natural hair is drastically shorter than what it was prior to my appointment despite this being a "protective style." I spent a significant amount of money on a weave installation and bundles that was not installed well and resulted in damaging my own hair. I spent over $600 on the hair and weave install itself not including the tip for the stylist. I do not recommend this salon especially if you've never done a weave before. I am currently trying to regrow my hair and feel very sad that I came to this salon with high hopes and expectations only for them to ruin my hair.

Sew Extra by Shawanda. I advise all to have their knots bleached on their closure by their hair extensions supplier (ask me who mine is).

Mostly, because of COVID-19, I had not had my hair weaved at Sew Brooklyn in over a year. However, I did come to the new & now sole location (I had been a client at the previous location with a stylist who is no longer with this salon). I had met Kenna &, by looking at her Instagram account & viewing her work & her demeanor made me want to try her. I finally did on 2/23/21. While she multitasked weaving my hair & another client, she made sure that the braiding wasn't too tight & extended great hospitality. Shawanda, Kenna & Sew Brooklyn continues to be a warm, professional environment that I look forward to give business to in the future.

A little over week ago, I went to get my hair done at Sew BK. It's been a while since I've had a sew-in and I am not someone who gets protective styles often, so I was a bit apprehensive. However, after communicating this with my stylist I felt like I would be in good hands. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I trusted that my stylist knew what she was doing. I addressed my concerns mid service regarding the track placements and she ensured she'd fix it. However, post service my sewin was bulky. The owner noticed my lack of satisfaction and attempted to fix it. To my suprise, when I got home, tracks were unraveling in the front AND my hair looked like an old weave vs fresh out the salon chair. After further analyzing and reflecting, I realized there were several steps my stylist did not do regarding shaping, styling, framing my face, etc. And truthfully my end results did not look professional. The pictures attached are from the same day I received the service. I went back yesterday, about a week later to get the sew in removed. Instead of a refund, I was offered a discount for another service or have my sew-in redone by the owner. However, at this point the trust, security and absolute guarantee I'll receive quality service is tainted. With that being said, If you do choose to patronize this salon, please only book with the owner because the skill level is not consistent across the board.

Update: I contacted the salon, and was offered a considerable discount as an accommodation for the experience detailed below. This seemed reasonable and I was willing to give it another shot. Unfortunately, after confirming the appointment I received another call asking me to take down my review in recognition of continued "excellent service". I stated that I would prefer to update my review after my appointment once I've had an updated experience. However, the owner (via the salon manager) was insistent that I take down the review now. Needless to say, I cancelled my appointment. ---------- Just had a very disappointing experience with Sew Brooklyn. I had an appointment scheduled for Friday afternoon but unexpectedly had to travel for work so I called to see if I could move my appointment too Thursday and the receptionist spoke to so pmeone in the salon and confirmed me for 4:45. I leave work IN MANHATTAN to come to Brooklyn for my appointment. At 4:36pm I get a call from someone at the salon asking "am I still coming"? I let them know that I was en route. The woman tells me that I would need to be rescheduled because I'm late. I tell her my appt is for 4:45 and she says they have me scheduled for 4:30. I ask if the 15 minutes really makes that much of a difference (I waited 30 minutes during my last appointment before I was washed, FYI), she said "yes, I have to reschedule you". I'm obviously annoyed and super confused so I say "no thank you". THEN, I get the confirmation of my cancellation, guess what time it says...4MFing45. So I call back and ask for the manager. I let her know I'm frustrated that a 4:45 appointment would be cancelled at 4:36 for LATENESS. She says "some of my services were scheduled before 4:45". What??? Why??? I read her the confirmation email and tell her there's no indication of that and ask that they reinstate my appointment (it's now 4:41 and I'm about to pull up to the salon). Well, now here comes the TRUTH. Apparently, there was a family emergency with the stylist and she can't take the appointment anymore. This has NOTHING to do with my arrival time or perceived lateness this is all THEM. This experience was incredibly disingenuous, rude and an insult to your customer's intelligence. Customer service is not just about providing a positive experience, it's about owning and correcting missteps. Here, you failed.

The Ladies are very professional and pleasant I like the manner in which they deal with clients I had a hiccup with appt for Brows and beauty but I wasn't mad just a little frayed but they were very kind - I love Kenna she did a great job thank you thank you thank u - I got ordained and married my daughter Alexia to her best friend Eliass. I absolutely love my long kinky curly sew on weave!! Check out pics-cute right?! Highly recommend Sew Brooklyn for 3 reasons. 1. Respect of customer's time-I've had spectacular stylists in the past but they NEVER kept the appointment times. It's always something and then since they are backed up, so I'm squeezed in between another client playing hot potato styling chair. You don't have to worry about that here. She made me feel like I was all that mattered. I had numerous processes and left in my desired time-awesome! 2. Knowledgeable and helpful stylist-Shawanda knows what she is doing and since I was a weave newbie she gave me so many tips and informed me of proper weave care and more. 3. Great Salon Vibe-clean, cute and professional. The other stylists were friendly and you can tell they are happy. Nothing worse than being in a salon where you can feel there is negative, frustrated folks. Not at Sew In Brooklyn. A+++

There are many things that women just accept as being part of getting our done, that I never understood. Why does it have to take all day? Why are so many women lined off in the salon when we all had appointments? Why can't I know the price up front? Why? Because I didnt go to Sew BK.... Today was my first time and the entire experience was great from setting the appointment online last night, to walking out the door freshly laid. Everyone was nice and offered welcoming service. I got to the salon 30 mins early expecting to sit and wait, however my stylist Cece had just finished someone and pleasantly told me she would start. She offered me a beverage and made sure I was comfortable. The braiding method, which includes a net, saves alot of time and is actually better for your hair. The tracks are undetectable and my style was very well done. Altogether about 2 hrs! I will definitely be returning.

Ok, so where do I start... Faith gurl you did your thang, you made my a believer. I was so scared to get a sew in. I never had one before but with my thinning hair from the removal of my dreads left me with very little satisfying options. So I did my homework and sew in kept popping up. I called ask questions and the young lady who answered was so nice.. Don't worry girl I will know all of y'all names soon enough. But she was the reason I booked right away. Then here came Ms. Faith, she was absolutely a doll. She made me feel so comfy right away. And I'm forever grateful to her for that. I just moved to NY and got my hair done here, and won't be going anywhere else! I love Sew Brooklyn! When I came in I was greeted by the owner Shawanda who was very nice, showed me where to put my jacket, gave me water, and she did my trim. I had a Sew Basic with a middle part. I brought my own hair and Letitia had it done within 2 hours! I love how my hair looks. She is so quick and precise. The prices are very reasonable, you are able to pay with cash or credit card. I was able to get the first timer discount since I joined their mailing list on the website. I loved that I could put my tip in with my card instead of have to bring cash. There is WiFi, good music, refreshments, and great conversation. All of the women in there were great. 10/10!

I am writing this review with the preface that overall the stylists were polite and did a pretty decent job with installing my hair and styling it. Over the phone, I requested a hair color application and weave installment. When I came into the salon, the receptionist was a little disorganized and I guess wasn't initially able to find my appointment in their system. She did eventually and a stylist started my hair. She was very pleasant but I could tell that she was new and a bit unsure about what to do (no problem, everyone has to start somewhere). At the sink I reminded her that I needed to have my hair colored because the weave was darker and she assured me that she would.....she didn't. Once I was back in the stylists chair and she began braiding my hair it began apparent that I wasn't going to get my hair colored. I mentioned it to her again and she spoke to the head stylist who told me that at this point it was too late to do so, also she didn't seem to realize that it was what I had requested. Obviously I was very upset. I checked the text confirmation they sent and it did state that I was to have a color and installment. The head stylist ended up putting in a lighter colored weave that was supposed to help blend the two colors together but it did not. On top of this she and another coworker proceeded to talk over me whilst installing the hair, she also cut my tracks and I wish she'd asked before doing so. I've had this hair installed before and didn't need to have it cut but now I won't be able to reuse it. The difference between my hair and the weave is pretty pronounced in a well lit room and outside, and that is why I wanted the color. Bottom line, I won't be back here again. For the cost of this visit I expected them to be much more organized and for all of my requests to be made.

So.. after much review and being optimistic, I gave this spot a shot. Making an appointment was easy and quick response. I was unsure of what style I wanted so I didn't commit to anything. I was sent an email for a $50.00 deposit the day before bc they said I am a new customer :-/. Fine. No I didn't give a deposit. In the email, it stated that if a deposit is not received, the appointment will be cancelled. I decided why not, but not going to lie forgot and fell asleep. Woke up like-oh shoot. So I sent a message on YELP to see if my appt. was still on since I forgot to give the deposit. I got a response saying yes. So I headed to BKLYN from Queens in the rain. Got there 20 mins late. Came in and was serviced right away. No one said anything via Yelp or in person that I would be charged 35.00 for being late. Tamia did my hair. She did an awesome job! Clearly she's talented and knows her stuff. At the end , I was told by the receptionist (Julissa) About the late fee that was added to my bill. Like what?! I'm NEW and had NO idea that there was a late fee! WTF! Bc of Tamia , I still gave a tip and paid their bogus 35.00 fee. However, I willllll never be back. It's a shame bc I really like the way my hair came out, but the lack of communication was HORRIBLE Unhappy new customer. No thanks Sew In

I came to Sew Brooklyn for a wash and style for my weave. When I entered the store, I immediately felt welcomed as a first time guest. However, things took a change as I sat in my stylist's chair. I noticed my stylist, Nie did not apply any heat protectant to my natural leave out hair before flat ironing -warning number 1. The same heat temperature setting from the flat iron that she applied to my weave, was also applied to my leave out ( it is obvious to anyone that my hair is fine in texture so the temperature settings should have been lowered in order to flat iron my natural hair!) After a few days, I came to the realization that I now have HEAT DAMAGE!! I am actually sadden by this because it took months for my hair to fully revert to its natural state. Now I have to wait another couple of months for my heat damaged strands to grow out. If you have natural hair, I know you understand the struggle of experiencing heat damage. Please be very careful if you do plan to visit Sew Brooklyn for any kind of heat services, i.e flat iron styles. Personally I would never return. read more

Too overpriced for the results, the nickel and dime-ing for every service is ridiculous. I also think it's bold to charge a late fee and then subsequently make the customer wait over three hours. That happened during my third visit and that was the last time I ever came. read more

Went to this Salon after a request for a simple sew-in bob I was given a bill of $780. My hair is colored so according to the stylist it required double processing, After declining the store supplied hair, the stylist informed me that the bill would be adjusted to $400+. The charges included to install and style. Which surprised me because why would you install extensions and not style them? They sent me to the beauty supply store to get the extensions for my $400 weave, on my way to the store I met my angel, a salon who gave me the same install for $80. I started getting compliments as soon as I stepped out of the Salon, and on the way home. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet a good stylist. I now have a long term relationship. In the past whenever I went to a majority of hair salons in Brooklyn Ive always dreaded being there all day, horrible customer service and bad products. The owner Shawanda did my hair years ago when she worked at another salon and I remembered how great she was, so when I found out she opened up her own salon I wanted to give it a try. I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into this salon. I was first greeted by the smiling receptionist, a few minutes later she came over to asked if I wanted a beverage or wine which I thought was a nice touch. The stylist who was going to be working with me, India came and introduced herself and started on my hair. First impression is everything to me and India is the best! not only was she very professional her work is superb. I got a sew-in and she was done in less that two hours, my hair is looking great and no pain what so ever. The salon's decor is set up so cute and the location is very easy to get to. I will defiantly be back! read more

Yasssss!!! Finally a salon that can perfect a closure. I've always feared getting a closure because of beauticians inability to accurately install them. Thanks #sewbrooklyn! I will be returning ! From the service to the styling to the staff I can't say more. I was a little nervous at first because of the minor negative reviews; but when I read them, one said she loved her hair but not the cost. Lol. So I'm happy I stayed true to whats important. My hair was slayed; so I'm happy :-). Just beware they charge a late fee. I voiced my opinion, but was shut down lol...and I understood. The owner explained how one late customer affects the entire work flow. Though I was annoyed, I took the L. So I respect that more than anything. read more

I WAS in love with my new hairstyle ! I came here on my birthday to get a silk press and I WAS overjoyed. It had been years since I've seen my hair lay down. Faith washed and blow dried then Shawanda straightened, trimmed,curled, wrapped and DAMAGED my hair. I can honestly say Shawanda is the first person to apply heat to my hair and I didn't get severely burned but then look what happened. Thank you for a great experience. BUT You definitely won't see Starr again ! My VIRGIN NATURAL hair is NOW damaged after ONE heat styling. I COMPLETELY REGRET ever wanting to change my hair. If I really was to get damaged hair my mother could have done it for free. not the $120 I payed for the WHOLE back of my head, most of the sides and strands in the front BONE STRAIT until it grows out. NEVER AGAIN read more

This year I was struggling finding a new stylist / salon . My old stylist made my hair to tight when I did a closure install and unfortunately I suffered a bald spot on my scalp . Of course embarrassed and traumatized to even do a sew in again , I gave myself & my hair 6 months of a break . Now I was all ready to get back in once MY scare healed . Searching up and down for a salon that was affordable , had great service I came across Sewbk . They had a receptionist name Stephanie she was so SWEET talked me through everything they provided and booked me with NICOLE. I came in for my appointment when I say everyone greeted me I felt Famous lol. Offered something to drink , immediately assisted by a braider . Now I still have a scare when I say she made me feel comfortable braided my hair to where it didn't hurt or irritate my scare . Than I met NICOLE!!!!! She is my girl , we talked , she was so patient with me . So kind made me feel completely beautiful again. I've been here going on at least 4 months now . Each time Jonathan & NICOLE are my FAV . Everyone is sweet but those two :) . Nicole is wonderful , one service we did coloring on my extensions the color wasn't as vibrant as I wanted it to be now I didn't say anything but NICOLE looked at me and said " I can tell you don't like it and went back to re dye it " when I say that's how I knew she cares about how her clients feel . Spent literally the whole day in the salon due to coloring and the team / Nicole making sure I was happy . I just left today with another color job feeling fabulous all thanks to Sewbk and NICOLE :) read more

Thank you Yelp community for helping me find this gem. From the moment I walked into the salon I was greeted and given champagne to sip on. My braids were just right (not too tight but not to loose either). My stylist was Nie and she consulted me on how best to wear my hair because of damage from another stylist/salon. Before she was even done, I sat in my chair a happy camper! My edges are damaged but you wouldn't be able to tell because Nie did magic on my head. Definitely will be back! Very happy with my results. read more

When I found Sew Brooklyn, I was looking for a place that could not only do great hair but was a community and felt like home. I recently moved to NYC and I had some negative experiences in Brooklyn salons. That's when I found Sew Brooklyn. Off the bat,the receptionist was friendly and worked with my crazy schedule. The owner, Shawanda, did my first install and she was a dream. I was inspired by her drive and how she started her salon. Shawanda was even more incredible and quick! Shawanda made me question all the other places I visited in the past! My transition to NYC has been so much better now that I've found Sew Brooklyn. I HIGHLY recommend Sew Brooklyn! read more

From Chicago to Brooklyn this was my first sew in experience and it was a dream! From the moment I stepped into the shop I knew I was in great hands. My washer and braider was very fast and asked ensured I was comfortable the entire time. Water, champagne, and wine were offered making the experience more posh. My stylist Nie was very knowledgeable about EVERY question I had for her. Questions from, "what do I do to this hair at night?" to "what kind of shampoo should I use?" This was a great first experience and I would recommend to anybody. Did I mention I was done in 3 hours? definitely my ONLY option when it comes to weave. Thank you. read more

This salon is a gem. The service is great, and the wait was not long at all. Faith is a sweetheart and she knows her stuff. I was expecting to get my install and go home and "fix it," like I've had to do with other stylists, but she nailed it. She spoke to me during the entire process to make sure I was completely happy with the install and style. I've found my new stylist! read more

Awesome place and excellent customer service. Nia did my hair for a wedding and I had no complaints! I wish the salon was much closer than a 45 mins drive, but it's sooo worth it. I will be back!!! Please please I advise you to cautiously consider going somewhere else. On Saturday March 3, 2018 I had by hair done at Sew Brooklyn. Tamia did my hair. She did a good job styling it. It was a bit tight but I didn't think anything of it. A few days later it felt even tighter and began to itch. I could not immediately return to the salon as I ended up relocating on March 6, 2018. Now everyone who is smart knows what it's like to relocate especially last minute. On Monday March 12, 2018 I contacted the salon and expressed that some of my hairline came out, scalp is itching, and scalp is sore with bumps. Sew Brooklyn refused to take corrective action and expressed that I would have to pay another $165.00 to have my hair redone. They claimed that it's been two weeks since I did my hair. Correction it was a week and a day since I was in the salon not two full weeks. As a hair technician you are supposed to know how to style someone's hair without causing damage. They failed to do so and won't fix my hair. I had Goddess braids in and had no issues no traction alopecia nothing!!! Now I get a weave and this happens. I am very disappointed with Sew Brooklyn and their poor customer service. My next course of action is contacting the New York Department of Health. I am wondering if there is unsanitary practices leading to the condition of my scalp. read more

I tend to be very selective but I was very pleased with my experience.This salon is the best I have ever been to. My hair turned out amazing and they listen to your needs and style exactly how you request it. It's very clean and well kept and they're very friendly with you, great atmosphere. Your hair is your crown and after a lot of breakage and damage I decided to try sew-ins again to give my hair a break. I'm so happy I was in the hands of Nie and Sew Brooklyn. After a consultation, she recommended a style and NOT the one I wanted as it would further damage my hair. This was not an easy decision for me as I had a precise idea of what I wanted my hair to look like. Nie could have done the style but It would have continued the damage on my hair. From her kind words and coaxing to what would work, to her tips for rehabbing my hair, it was an absolute pleasure (the mimosa didn't hurt either)! I definitely will be coming back and the timely process has completely changed my idea of a BK "shop." read more

HAHA I booked this place for a 360 frontal HUGE HUGE disappointment. My appointment was at 12 (I arrived at 1100 because I saw the comments about late charges) did not leave until around 7. My stylist took 4 other people who left before me during that time. I came back and had my sister look at it from the back. It's already coming off lace is not sticking down, can't put my hair up at all. I would not recommend this place at all. Paid 325 for a half ass job. read more

I travel about 1 1/2 hour to Sew Brooklyn from Riverdale, NY. Can I find places to install a weave a lot closer? Absolutely! I've been wearing extensions for years but only after I began going to Sew Brooklyn, I saw a progress in my hair that I have never seen in my life. My natural hair is long, strong, and healthy and that's because they really focus on true hair care! It's kind of their core. I visited this Salon today for the first time. Nice atmosphere, it was very clean. The staff was friendly and offered me a beverage. It seems that they specialize in weave installations and styling but they do other things as well. I went in for a relaxer, color & trim with the stylist Nicole who is great!! I really love this place. Went in because another salon had messed up my hair cut and i needed it fixed. The stylist i was matched with (Niye?) was amazing, a real expert. She talked me through what she was going to do and completely fixed my haircut. She was super confident and knew exactly what to do. I had a top notch experience from the initial booking right through the final result of my full weave installation. Booking online was super easy and they had plenty of time slots available. When I called the shop for more information in their weave install process, the staff was polite helpful, patient and courteous. When I arrived for my appointment, there was no waiting and I was in a chair right away. All of the staff are highly skilled stylist and knowledgeable about all aspects of hair care. Johnathan braided and prepped my hair for the weave installation. He did a fantastic job. The braids were straight, perfectly positioned and sized. Shawanda installed, cut and styled my weave. I have been going to Sew Brooklyn for a while now, and it's an amazing place to go to get your hair done. The Salon is a wonderful place clean and very comfortable, the stylists are very professional all of them can do wonderful hair. Faith did an amazing job with my sew-in! I wasn't familiar with Sew Brooklyn's m braid installation method and she answered all of the questions that I had and also shared tips on how to grow my tresses while wearing the protective style. Her hands moved quickly through my hair and although the foundation is very secure, my head does not hurt from braids that are too tight. Faith was a beast with her sew pattern. She is also skilled with blending natural African American 4b hair very very well and didn't use too much sculpting products. My style looks like it is growing out of my scalp! Couldn't be happier ! Not only is the salon super clean but the staff is extremely friendly. Their communication is amazing through out the whole process from the second you book your appointment to the second you leave. Tamia was my hair stylist not only did she understand all of my hair concerns but she was honest about what would work best for me ( she knows her stuff).After trying a few different hair salons in Brooklyn for a simple sew in with a lot of leave out and being disappointed. Such a wonderful experience. I called on the 7th and was able to get an appointment the next day. When I arrived, everyone was so polite and happy to see me. One stylist began on my braiding pattern while I sipped on a Mimosa. The atmosphere is so beautiful and chic, you forget where you are. My sew in took about 1.5 hours and I could not be more satisfied. No bumps or "settling" needed. Beautiful job done. I plan on being a faithful customer. read more

I have had such great experiences at SewBK. From the friendly and funny staff, to the clean shop, and accommodations, the service has been nothing but exceptional. I would like to start of by saying the atmosphere and appearance of the salon blows you away when you walk in. If you think an interior decorator took care of that, you're mistaken! It's strictly the owner's creativity. Not to mention the bathroom is immaculate and she even has Lysol wipes to wipe the toilet seat down! The employees and owner are all down to earth and genuinely care about your hair. When I came in, I was battling a failed twist out and had to do something . I called the day before and they gave me the first appointment the next day. I was also very late, and I was still taken as soon as I got here. They are extremely understanding of my travel hardship coming from Queens and took me right away. She is priced very reasonably and sells hair on site if necessary . There are no surprise add-ons with the prices which I'm sure anyone has experience the extra $10 here, $5 there, etc. They are very direct and understanding. Jonathan washed my hair with such care and wanted to know my struggles with my hair and related to me. The system is set up so once you're washed, Shawanda's tools are laid out for her and she isn't fumbling with opening packs of hair, scissors or threading needles. She is extremely professional and more than willing to listen to your problem so, concerns and hair horror stores. Her braiding style is very unique and she takes the extra step to protect your hair. I greatly appreciate her because she helped me out of a serious bind. Not to mention, my son gets his hair done a couple of blocks away so this works for me perfectly ! By far Sew Brooklyn provided the best client care I have other experienced. All the stylist, particularly Faith, who did a fabulous job on my weave in terms of everything in my request but especially in coloring my bundle (which ,important note, the various post up flawless hair types for a partial, lace front, closure and any and everything else is top quality for VERY reasonable prices. If your location is a long drive away trust me from a firsthand experience every single bit of the ride was worth it. The salon as a whole goes above and beyond in making sure clients were nothing less than satisfied When it comes to scheduling a hair appoint I highly recommend this salon . There are salons that practice hair care more so for the benefit of the money , making the experience nothing but non enjoyed; and there is Sew Brooklyn (which -another important note - I find their title name of their salon fabulously clever just like their care - they truly are dedicating and I thank them greatly and my stylist, Faith, for accommodating the delay of my arrival. Furthermore in terms of my stylist sharing insightful, humorous, and other great conversations through my time there. Everyone is truly welcoming and easy to talk to and the environment fun and carefree and lightheaded and very comical. As someone with a background in salon/spa, I'd been struggling for years to find a salon that I felt could provide the level of expertise and professionalism that I needed for my hair. I don't normally wear extensions because of constant bad experiences and stylists neglecting to provide the haircare I needed, but luckily that's changed now that I come here. A friend recommended this spot and I am in love. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They don't just do your hair and send you away but instead take care to provide you with the proper knowledge and recommendations needed to help care for your tresses. Shawanda and CeCe are the two stylists I've seen so far and I have yet to have an issue. No braiding too tightly to where Im going home with a headache, they offer the option to deep steam your hair as a treatment, and on occasion don't be surprised if you're offered a glass of wine! So proud of these ladies and what they're providing for women like myself who prefer a regular sew in. But they do it all don't get it twisted! I'd highly recommend giving them a try for yourself. only great things to say about nie. so far i have had a full install and later a wash/closure adjustment, she is very conscientious and efficient. i have extremely sensitive skin and have suffered breakouts and general misery from excessive tension in the past, but nie totally babied my edges and i still left her chair looking right! closure and part placement were very natural, the whole install laid flat and has been comfortable. several people have commented that they think it's my natural hair (not that it's any of their business haha). the salon is extremely clean, comfortable and easy to get to, they are very prompt and professional. services are reasonably priced for the value, they're listed a la carte so consider everything you will need ahead of time. receptionists are warm and responsive to questions. will definitely be back soon! read more

I've known Shawanda for almost 3 years and must say, every experience is amazing. She's professional, talented and attentive to her customer needs. I am relatively new to the weave process, however, because of Shawanda craft I am totally addicted now. I recieved soo many compliments from all walks of life about my hairstyle - BOB. The best compliment came from a hair-stylist (caucasian) at a prestigous Hair Salon in NYC of how nice my cut was too perfection. I couldn't wait to share that story with Shawanda and it put a huge smile on her face - not knowing it was her dream to work for that Salon when she first started out. Hard-work pays off! Clients beware, you will be nickeled and dimed for all services. Be prepared to pay for: (1) late fees of $35 dollars even for regular weekly clients and even if there is still a wait for you to get your hair done, (2) touch up for edges Is $35 and at any other salon that would be for a full head, and (3) blow dry of $10 and an extra fee for under the dryer. What ever you do, don't discuss what you do for a living or your financial situation, because you will be charged accordingly. The owner does not manage her staff well and there is a lack of communication between the staff and clients. I will not be returning. My advise to the owner Shawanda would be to take management training courses and to be respectful to your clients. read more

This place is legit. Prices are fair market prices with even budget friendly options. Faith did my sew in with minimum leave out and honestly I am very very happy with the results. This is my first sew in so I was very apprehensive on how it will turn out, I am also very OCD and wanted to make sure it came out as natural looking as possible and Faith completely delivered. All the advice and recommendations she gave me during my consultation turned out to be true and on point, once my install was finished. Faith also does a nice braiding pattern that keeps the finish look as natural and seemless as possible. She was great. The experience was great. I will be going back to Sew Brooklyn having Faith take care of me again. read more

Sew Brooklyn is a much needed. I received my sew in from mayb all the stylist in the salon. All of them knowledgeable and worth every penny. I've paid a lot of money in the past for sew ins and I respect that they are not over priced and the services are Al La Carte. All are experienced and very professional. I love that I get confirmation emails and phone calls to remind me of my appointments scheduled. I've always been on time and and always been greeted and serviced right away. I was looking online to find an affordable hairstylist to do a sew-in for my upcoming Bday vacation. They recommend sew Brooklyn and let me tell you the visit was amazing. The receptionist welcomes you when you walk in and offers you something to drink and the atmosphere from the start is very welcoming. I got seated immediately they prep my hair for the sew in and the stylish was a couple of minutes late which wasn't too bad. I made an appointment at Sew Brooklyn right before Thanksgiving. The appointment process was professional and effortless. Upon arrival I was greeted and the salon has a very welcoming cool vibe. I was braided up right away, then Shawanda did her magic. She is fast and does a phenomenal job. The install was incredible and here it is after Christmas and my hair is still looking fabulous. None of my thread has popped or tracks have slipped. Shawanda really is the bomb.com. I will definitely be going back and I highly recommend this salon. read more

Sew Brooklyn is absolutely phenomenal! I got a versatile sew in today and Nye patiently answered my questions prior to getting started. Not only was she patient and kind (it's my first time getting my hair done like this), she patiently worked her magic. I've never had an experience as great as this one was. My appointment was on 12/27/16. I was so nervous because it was my first time in years getting a sew in from someone new (lost my stylist in a horrible accident). I found Sewbk on yelp and decided to take the leap and I'm soooo happy I did. I was very comfortable, all of the staff was very pleasant and Shawanda did such an amazing job with my hair. I went there for the first time to get a full weave installation (with a closure). I was so impressed on how quickly I was acknowledged and seated when I walked in. Everyone was super friendly. Cece was my stylist. She is super cool, makes you feel at ease and she did a wonderful job. I got so many compliments on my hair ( so you know I'll definitely be back to see Cece. I would like to say--first shout out to the young ladies doing their thing at Sew Brooklyn. You all are top notch. Secondly,I traveled from CT and I've never had a weave before, I wanted something different for the summer plus give my natural hair a break. Miss Cece had me feeling myself when she was done. After many horrible hair experiences in New York City and New Jersey, I finally believe I've found a new hair salon home. The owner of the shop was extremely professional, courteous and listened and responded to my styling needs. The professionalism alone will keep me coming back. The shop is very spacious, extremely clean and ran almost effortlessly. I live in Manhattan, the commute to the shop was quick and easy. I give Sew Brooklyn a 5 out of 5 stars!!!! read more

Girl, YAS. This salon is the truth. I usually have my own hair stylist that I visit in my borough, but she was on vacation and I desperately needed my hair done for graduation. I searched for salons and stumbled upon this one online. Since the Yelp reviews were great, I thought I'd give this place a try. Thank God I did. Faith slayed my hair and she was super nice. Sew Brooklyn did an amazing job at making me feel welcomed from start to finish. I had the pleasure of Shawanda doing my hair, which I am still in love with. I can't leave out the live entertainment while drinking champagne. One of the assistants shared his singing skills, he knew every genre of music, it was hilarious.
