The decor is pretty minimal with uncomfortable and cheaper furniture. For how the food is priced, I do think they should provide a bit more customer service. You order at the counter and you seat yourself. The front staff who was there that day, was not mindful of pulling the chairs and made loud metal sounds from the chair legs, while she cleaned up. Which was kind of disruptive in the small echoey space. The oxtail pho is priced at 18 or 20 - i forget - which is pretty pricey in terms of pho. While it tasted good and quite flavorful, the meat did not come off the bone. I still would get this again and enjoyed it very much! But def when I'm in the mood to splurge. The bun bowl was on the less flavorful side- while the beef quality was very good. I really like the place but something about the ambiance is not super inviting and the service was a bit lacking! We both thought the appetizer soup was great but again a bit on the pricey side. It had a lot of ingredients and it tasted like it would heal us from the inside!! Excellent service! I was recommend by a foodie friend & Eater LA to go here. The place is in a little quaint shopping plaza. It's off a seemingly seedy strip mall but trust me it's NOT BAD ALL. The Pho French dip, Blue Crab Eggrolls, and pho are pho-nomenal. For first timer leaning try it all at once the Pho French Dip is a nice balance. Pho French dip comes with soupy base to dip the sandwich in. It's crispy, moist, juicy all at the same time. The pho tastes so clean and light ! There isn't a strong heavy aftertaste. It leaves you wanted for another spoonful. Blue crab egg rolls are are filling and packed with umami. The flavors are bold and not demure. Super good would order again but not often to watch my health lol I hate using this seemingly ubiquitous word, but it truly is a " hidden gem ". I highly reccomend it. I'm disappointed. The resturant changed owners recently and I was hoping the quality would stay the same but twice now I've gotten the banh mi Dac Biet Sandwich and the quality was just not the same. The first time the bread wasn't as good but I thought maybe it was an off day. I got the same banh mi sandwich (it was my favorite banh mi in all of LA) again today first I noticed one of the meat slices were so chewy I couldn't even bite through the sandwich. I pulled the meat out and tried to eat it by itself and it was very hard to swallow and hurt my throat. Since the banh mi wasn't cheap I insisted on finishing it and noticed the bread was also very chewy... hard to eat (maybe not fresh?), and there was just a strong meat smell to it, and I think they forgot the carrot and daikon today. Anyway, super disappointed. I hope they figure out what was wrong and change it back. The original banh mi was sooooo goood and felt like a little luxury sandwich. Bright, modern take on Vietnamese food. I loved the pho brisket sandwich. The bread has a lovely crunchy crust with a medium crumb, perfect for the pho broth to dip. First of all the broth was delicious, but the inside of the wonton there was a piece of shrimp and piece of pork over cooked. In the soup itself had pieces of pork that were over cooked and fatty. Sesame Dinette is a place I look forward to going to or ordering takeout whenever I have my monthly nail appointments in Long Beach. Actually, my nail artist introduced me to this spot and I've been hooked since. Since I was in a rush the last time I went, I placed an order for takeout. I ordered the vermicelli salad bowl (bun) with lemongrass beef filet mignon and an iced gulab jamun viet latte with oat milk. My order was ready upon pickup and parking was a breeze when I arrived. There was one parking spot in the front of the restaurant :) The person at the register was very friendly and helpful. I made sure to not look to my left where there were cute products lined on the shelf that I succumbed to on my first visit here. They had the perfect gifts for my friends upcoming birthday and I had realized that it was approximately a year since I had been there as her birthday was coming up again. My vermicelli salad bowl as expected was delicious. I poured all of the fish sauce into my salad and enjoyed it on my drive back home. The viet latte also had the perfect amount of sweetness and caffeine that I enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. I can't wait to return and enjoy the other items on their menu. Did not even know of the place until a friend mentioned it and a group of us decided to try it all together and everything was so good!! The blue crab roll was bomb, they even use the authentic wrapper (vs the standard ones used for egg rolls), it came out with the usual fresh veg and the dipping sauce was yum! Ordered the vermicelli bowl with fish and it did not disappoint, the protein to noodle to veg ratio was perfect! Husband ordered and pho french dip and safe to say it tasted great because i didn't even get take a bite out of it at all lol. So I had been meaning to check this place out since they opened, I'd been hearing buzz since literally day one, and they're not even that far from us, life just kept getting in the way. Two weeks ago, we finally made it here, and spoiler, we were already back earlier today. It's a small place, but both times we were there, there were seats available (they have a few small tables and a couple larger "communal" ones.) Everyone was super friendly, in helping us figure out the menu, and just in general - and I think I was talking to the owner the first time too, haha. It's fun finding small places like this - the food isn't *cheap*, but is very reasonably priced for the amount of effort and love that clearly goes into things! Anyway, the first time we came here, we shared an appetizer and two entrees. The blue crab roll, I was thinking would be a fresh roll, but was actually deep fried blue crab - they were delicious, but pretty small, $12 for 2 little egg rolls. Tasty, though. The entrees we tried were $14.50 each, and both extremely worth it. The vermicelli (grilled pork) was probably the best I've had, super fresh greens and herbs, great noodles, great meat, great sauce, just great. Absolutely no complaint about it at all. Well, other than sharing it with my wife, I couldn't dump hot sauce all over it... (On that note, I also loved that they have a great house chili sauce, house chili-garlic crisp, and sriracha at the front for people to grab.) The "crunchy pork sando" (both the pork, and the sando itself, are crunchy, as it turns out) was also delicious, the sort of sandwich that's just bursting with flavor (and conveniently, even relatively easy to split in half.) Also a great sauce, though it did also make the bottom of the sandwich a bit flimsy. Excellent pork belly, though (next-kitchen still has the best pork belly, though :p - but it's close!), also great, fresh greens and herbs, and great bread, too - I need to try their banh mi sometime now, knowing it'd be on that same bread. (Though we also need to try the beef dip... I also wouldn't mind a vermicelli to myself, again, mainly for hot sauce-related reasons. It truly is a wonderful vermicelli bowl. I've already been twice, and I'm already planning next time, haha.) Then, on our way out, my wife commented how much she loves pate chaud, and missing the one place we used to be able to get it nearby, that unfortunately closed recently. Thus, the main reason we were back so quickly, we learned they were adding pate chaud to the menu soon, soon being yesterday, which was a pretty irrefutable reason to go back. (Though obviously not the only one.) Obviously we got pate chaud - in keeping with the trend, they were wonderful, but not large. They were also only $4 each, though - and what they lacked in size, they also made up for somewhat in denseness. Rich, buttery pastries, stuffed with great meat - I was happy not splitting it. (Actually, my wife got a second one. :D) Was their first week making pastries, but they're already super solid. Another reason I was happy to come back so soon: to remedy my earlier mistake and *actually* get a fresh summer roll like I had thought I was getting. I wish they had one with crab instead of just with faux vegan shrimp - but I'm a staunch omnivore, and vegan shrimp has apparently gotten pretty good lately, cause it was bomb. Same great, fresh greens and great aromatic herbs I expected, a great dipping sauce, and unexpectedly flavorful fake shrimp. Pretty big, too - extremely worth $10 for two of them, and if you like that sort of thing, extremely craveable. (I was personally happy that they're not my wife's thing, so I ate both of them. Personally, if I were getting an appetizer, it'd likely always be these.) We also shared a pork shoulder noodle bowl entree the second time - it was also good, though we both agreed, the vermicelli was better. Meat was great, and the accompanying soup was pretty good, but without the soup, the rest of the dish as a whole didn't have quite as much flavor or complexity as the vermicelli. Still good though. My only major complaint is, for the price, their drinks are also a little small (shrubs and tonics are $5.50, lattes are $6). Totally reasonable prices for quality drinks these days, and they *are* quality - they're just also kinda small. The first time, we shared a pineapple guava shrub (which was a great shrub, though not particularly guava-y), and a ginger-ade tonic that was absolutely wonderful. Didn't really taste gulab jamun specifically in the supposedly gulab jamun iced latte either, but it was also a great iced latte, anyway... I just wish they were all slightly larger. I did also appreciate the selection of mocktails and 0abv wine, too, though! I'll have to try one sometime. Well, one other smaller complaint, I wish they had actual bike parking. It was nice not worrying about their small shared parking lot, but we did have to lock our bikes to a nearby exposed pipe...) read more

Long Beach lacks a lot of Vietnamese food and I usually drive out to Fountain Valley or Garden Grove for it. A friend recently told me about this place and I decided to try it out for lunch. I placed an order online based on their website menu. I ordered the grilled pork vermicelli bun bowl and pandan latte but unfortunately they didn't have pandan latte. When I arrived at the restaurant, the pork vermicelli bun bowl was $2 more than the website price. Okay, they probably didn't update it (this was back in May). When I finally tried it at home, it tasted really good and the flavor was there like what I expected it to be. I thought it was weird that they gave me a piece of beef patty. The only thing I was disappointed about was the size and for $16, there wasn't even at least a cha gio in it. I also got an almond cookie and thought that was really good. Long Beach is totally lacking in the Vietnamese food department so when Sesame Dinette opened up, I had to check it out. I was hoping for a good Vietnamese food but Sesame Dinette exceeded my expectations. I tried the Banh Mi and Grilled Beef Noodle Salad (Bun Thit Nuong) and both items were so delicious and comforting at the same time. I didn't know it was as possible to like a Banh Mi more than ones I get from Banh Mi Che Cali BUT the sesame bread that is used at Sesame Dinette is SOOOOO tasty I couldn't eat it plain. I'm so happy to have Sesame Dinette in LB and will be back when my next Vietnamese food craving hit and/or when I need to restock on provisions (i.e. whole coffee beans, chili oils, seasonings...). read more

What a fantabulous gem of a restaurant this is! It's criminal that I just found out about this place! The gal taking our order was so patient and kind as we asked all kinds of questions as it was our first time. We def dug into her great recommendations! I'm a big fan of pho so of course I had to have the Oxtail Pho. 1 - it is not a very commonly seen menu item. 2 - the meat was soo tender and yummy. 3 - holy cow is the broth pristine. And I mean clean in the best way. Pho broth in most restaurants is murky meat juice. Sesame's is clear and flavorful. 4 - oh those flat rice noodles were chewy goodness. I cleared my bowl. My sister had the Pho French Dip. She said it's 100% something she'll crave in the future. We all want to try it next time! They also offer some unique and phenomenal drink options. We tried the Salted Pandan Viet Iced Latte w/Oat Milk. Wow, soo yummy! Pho America was the only eatery that was around that intersection and Sesame Dinette really blew them out of the water! I'm embarrassed to say how long it's taken me to eat here! I just went last week on a Friday for lunch with a friend. Service was friendly and kind and food came out fast. We both ordered the vermicelli salad bowl or a bun, with pork. There was also pork patties, homemade and juicy! All the veggies and herbs were finely shredded and in a good size bowl - so fun to eat! The fish sauce on the side that you pour all over was also lovely and perfect. We grabbed some chili crunch sauce too for a little more heat. We had two fun non alcoholic beverages too that had apple cider vinegar and those were refreshing! I cannot wait to try more items! Parking is zero issue - private lot and street parking. I came twice with hubby. Hubby had the same pho sandwich both times. I've tried different dishes, appetizers and drinks. So far, all the items were delicious and beautifully plated.
