The employees here are hit or miss. Some days they are okay, most days they are rude and are not shy to insult you.

Odd to give a fountain or statue a lower than stellar rating but there are some things that make…read morethis an OK landmark, but certainly not my fave. I've realized since beginning my search for odd landmarks to review that I am a little bit of a history nerd and while this statue appears to have some significance (the effigies of what appears to be one man rescuing another) it's not outlined on an plaque anywhere near by. The fountain is surrounded by well kept gardens and with adequate seating surrounding it, I can see how this would be a serene place to relax on a summer day. That being said the fountain itself appears to be in ill repair, chipping paint along the railing and the water appears to be a touch murky. I believe I read online that this statue/fountain was erected in honor of immigrants who moved to Canada to work in trades and labour, but ill update this review once my sleuthing turns up something concrete. Something certainly to see in Vaughan of you're driving past in hwy 7 but for my time a little more history and upkeep would make this perfect. ---------------------------- Historical background: I told you I would sleuth out the truth on this memorial. It does have a name (which I have since changed in the business listing to reflect it accordingly). Italian Workers Memorial "The Memorial, located in front of the Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena in Vaughan dedicated to all Canadian workers of Italian descent who perished or were injured in work related accidents. The Memorial committee commissioned a statue to Giovanni Fanton, a local artist of Italian descent who chose a highly defined realistic style to represent the theme. Our task was to design an installation that would provide both a base and an architectural setting around the statue to emphasize its social and symbolic values. For this reason the statue has been installed on a platform surrounded by a series of concrete pillars resembling a bridge collapsing under construction, with precast concrete pieces piled over a shallow pool. Water cascades from behind the statue to the pool, evoking the falling movement of debris. A small Piazza-like structure, elevated from the surrounding area, with seating for public events and recreation crowns the statue, its pedestal and the pool area" - - - Taken from Nino Rico Inc Architect webpage

My rating is 4.5 but I'm rounding up. After about 20 years dealing here, that's pretty darn good…read moreand I fully endorse this small location. Given its size, it is VERY well run, and provides just about all the services you'll need on any given day at the library. The recommended offerings on display are very well organized and rotated regularly. I love that I can just about always find something interesting to take with me in addition to - or instead of - anything else I came by for. There are several areas to use, depending on your needs - from a quiet chair in a corner, to a desktop workstation, to a study room, to the large activity rooms used for programming. Speaking of programming, there are all kinds of movie nights, special help sessions e.g. retirement planning, how to upgrade your literacy and digital literacy skills, etc. My favourite is the book chat held on the last Wednesday of every month. These books are reserved for monthly discussion and you get your loan for the period to coincide with the chat. You don't have to sign up and it's always a treat to participate in the well facilitated discussions - as much or as little a you like, no pressure here. One of my other favourite services is how easy it is to borrow items you want with the reserve/pickup system. I can request my items and when I'm ready (and they're ready for you), all you have to do is breeze in, collect them from the shelf with your number on them, and use the automatic checkout. So fast and convenient! Kudos to the staff here - knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. Best resource in the neighbourhood.

Free unsecured Wifi and a good kid section... those monitor and KB for kids looks neat.. I almost want to play one of those "educational" games on them! Share the same building as Community Centre and have access to the huge park at the back. A whole room dedicated to Picture Books at the back... Picture books? sounds like fun! Definitely a great library for kids and young readers!

All libraries should have a huge "Silent Study" area like Pierre Berton Resource Library…read more I was a little worry when I saw the High School across the street from the library and all these students hanging out in the front... I just want some peace and quiet when I go to library.. not to deal with screaming toddlers or teens. Even after school hour, this library feels like a library. Quiet and peaceful, even I was whispering. The silent study area has the back has huge windows: floor to ceiling letting the natural sunlight filtering in.... Free Wifi! Electric outlets! I can definitely hang out here for awhile...

I've got to say, I was very impressed with the nice and relaxing vibe this place gave off. This library is pretty great compared to the other libraries in the area. It's right across the street from Emily Carr Secondary School, but it's certainly not just for high school students. There are two giant floors - a lot of children and families on the bottom and a lot of high school/college/university students on the top. The reason for this is because the entire top floor is a silent study zone! Such an awesome place that gets you in the mood to actually read and write. The tables and cubicles have outlets attached, which is obviously convenient if you use your laptop, smart phone, or any other electronic device to study. The couches are super comfortable as well. They've also got some nice rooms with white boards available for booking if you are coming in with a group. In terms of the general library stuff, this place has a wide range of DVDs, books, magazines, and a computer and printing station. I'll certainly make my way back here sometime soon! Probably during exam season...
