And you can bring in a coffee/water/pop or whatever and you don't need to buy anything... and no one will give you mean looks even if you park yourself here for hours.. (uploading photos to yelp or writing reviews) Yes I am writing my 800th yelp reviews right now! Oh almost forget they do have good selections of books and DVD... I have not buy a copy of books for years.. I either put a hold and reserve them online for later pick up or I will just grab some good interesting read off the shelves... Markham Civic Centre is one of them. I think of Markham Civic Centre as Markham's City Hall. I've come here for a bunch of different services and events since I became a Markhamite twice (first time moving here with my parents and my current stint since returning to the GTA from Winnipeg many moons ago). During my undergraduate years, I came here with a friend who wanted to get a marriage licence. He didn't want to try getting one in Toronto, so we came here instead. It was fairly easy to get one. You can also get married here if you wanted to! Back in the late 2000's, another friend felt bad missing my birthday, which was sweet. It wasn't a huge deal to me. She took me to my first Markham Ribfest. It was held at Markham Civic Centre. I will say that it was a weird setup. Markham Ribfest needed a bigger venue. The ribfest vendors fit here just fine. However, parking was an issue. The lot is decent for regular visitors during business hours. It can't handle massive crowds for events that go into the evening. We actually parked across the street in front of the No Frills and walked over. I will say that this event was my first ribfest and it was awesome! I love going to any ribfest that I can during the summertime. During this period, maybe before ServiceOntario supported health card renewals, I had to get my photo taken for my Ontario health card at Markham Civic Centre. The building was specific, but I got there just fine. My photo was taken and all was great. Since then, I have always hit a ServiceOntario location to have my photo taken when I need a new one for my driver's licence or Ontario health card. I'm not sure why the photoshoot happened here. I'm glad that I got my photo taken somewhere! During the wintertime, you can skate here for free. It's not as elaborate as a setup that you get at Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square with a place to rent your skates, music, a snack stand, and so on. You simply bring yourself and your skates, and have at it. In the summertime, this artificial skating rink becomes a lovely water fountain. It's nice to sit down and admire it. I'm happy that Markham Civic Centre exists. I don't frequent it as much as I should, but it's there when I need services or just want to be a tourist in my backyard. (494)

My dad kept an accessibility parking permit under my mom's name in his vehicle. He must have left his vehicle unlocked, as he noticed last Sunday that the permit was missing. He looked everywhere in the vehicle. It was gone. In Ontario, the name on the accessibility parking permit isn't the driver's name who owns the vehicle. Rather, it's under the person's name who has the accessibility need. The good news is that we can get a replacement permit. The bad news is that ServiceOntario doesn't make the process easy. Since this permit was stolen, to get a replacement permit that was stolen requires filing a police report. Both the online application and the PDF form require that you indicate the police unit and the official police report number. I'll get to temporary versus official police report number a bit later. My dad didn't share this news until my mom's medical appointment got moved up. We have no time to get a temporary permit. At least I could start the process, which was on Friday when my dad shared the news. I started by calling York Regional Police. This listing has the phone number that I used, which is why I'm putting my review here. Frankly, I don't know where this call got handled. It may not have been at this police station just north of CF Markville Mall. I'm using it anyway. I went with the non-emergency stream. I got a nice woman who said that I had landed at the switchboard. I indicated that I needed help with filing a police report for a permit theft. She was great saying that she's put me through to the communications department. I got a helpful male police officer. I explained my situation. He said that I could file a police report online and that I didn't need to show up at any police station to do it in-person. Sweet! On yrp.ca, I was able to fill out the various screens to file a police report. I will say that the form had some weird behaviour: - When you fill out the type of street that you're on, such as Boulevard, it automatically tacks on Road after it. If you enter Rexdale Boulevard, you get Rexdale Boulevard Road automatically. - Beware of the birthdate dropdown menu. I had specified 02 as the day and it gave me 20. I noticed these issues after I had submitted my report for review. Ugh! Luckily, a police officer does get assigned to your pending report. I got a female officer who called practically immediately after I had hit the Send button. She was friendly and so kind. I indicated that there were a couple of mistakes. She supported that the online form does do weird stuff. She helped correct my two issues and made sure that she understood what had happened. I got confirmation that my report was filed and in pending state before she called. Once she made the changes and talked to me, she approved this report. Yay! When I filed my report online, I got a temporary police report number. The instructions said that I could use it for my ServiceOntario application to get a new permit. The online version doesn't accept a temporary police report number starting with T, followed by a bunch of numbers. This field expects numbers. When I finally got the official police report code that had all numbers, the online form accepted it. What is maddening about the ServiceOntario site to get a replacement permit is that it asks for the permit number and some other detail that was on the permit. My dad has none of this information. I never took a photo of it. As a result, we need to go to a ServiceOntario office and file this permit replacement. It's an inconvenience, but I have now learned to take a photo of the new permit should it get stolen. Anyway, I wanted to say that the three folks at York Regional Police who helped me file the police report were great. I hope that no one, including myself, needs to file one in the near future. However, if you do, know that the process is smooth and the support was terrific. (416)

This Milliken Mills branch of Markham Public Library (MPL) is my home branch. It's where I first…read moregot my first Markham library card when I moved back to Markham from Winnipeg. If you work, live, or go to school in Markham, you are eligible for a free library card. You basically go to the customer service counter, and present identification that shows your current name and address. You'll be asked to provide your phone number and e-mail address. It doesn't take long to get your card and a key tag version of it. This library is located inside Milliken Mills Community Centre. The closest door to enter the library is across from Milliken Mills Park. There is lots of parking. Staff have always been helpful and nice if you have any questions. They are patient, likely because there are children programs and you have to be. This library is older. It does have a decent multimedia section. You can rent audiobooks, movie DVDs, and more. The book selection is decent. It depends on what you are looking for. The fiction section is great. The newer books are more challenging to nab because the demand is great. I like the cookbook section. As great as it is to look up recipes online, it's a nice throwback to grab a cookbook, leaf through it, and spot a recipe that I'd like to try. I end up taking a photo of it these days. It's easier than trying to photocopy it for eons past. The washrooms are a part of the community centre. You have to exit the library and walk down the corridor to get to it. It's a hit-or-miss situation with cleanliness. There is wifi throughout the community centre. It's free and it works well. If you feel like a snack or meal, there's a McDonald's at the far end with a drive-thru. I seem to visit it more these days than the library. I have spent more time at this library doing work when wifi was an issue years ago. I ended up ditching Rogers for TekSavvy and haven't had to come here to be productive with wifi connectivity. It's a decent library. I should return more often. (467)

Milliken Mills Branch Library located at Kennedy just south of 14th Avenue…read more This is one of the older Library system that in need of some sort of renovation. Built pre internet area, the power outlets for my laptops are not easy to find... There are some comfortable sofa style seatings, that I want to park myself with my laptop but unfortunately, no electric outlets are in sight. They do have some new metal looking partitions study stations that have individual power outlets... A lot of the furnitures here are quite old...and Walmart looking... hopefully they will have the budget to replace some of them. Kudos to their hardcover books collections! A lot of the previous Bestsellers they still carries multiple copies... Good to drop by to pick up a book or 2 when you have nothing better to do than the read a book. The Wifi connection here is much better than the one at Unionville library.. a lot faster and more stable! :) This will be another of my Yelp office when I am in the area! Oh and by the way, McDonalds is in the same building!! So you see people popping out to get a coffee from there or even going out for a break and snack on McDonalds goodies! :P

Mount Joy Go Station is my to go Go Station if I need to park my car when I taking the bus or train…read moredowntown. The parking lot is huge compare to Markham Go Station just down the road. I like how it is really well lit and there is also a second lot if you have problem finding a spot in the main lot. There is also the waiting area is sheltered and has an actual door that help blocking the freezing cold on a -30C windchill days. There is also a covered bicycle parking area! New ticketing machine also been installed recently. Extra 0.5 star for keeping the roadway clear even on snow day, at least my car was not stuck after major snow storms.

Most people do park their cars pretty late here, so your car won't be singled out if you come back after 11pm lols. I find that the drivers here are more respectful and do generally park okay. When I mean okay, I mean they all back in and make an effort to not park on lines. However, when winter comes, all hell breaks loose. Usually if you leave from Union Station, the buses will take you to Mount Joy Go Station. I hope this go station doesn't get any busier after my post lols.

There are plenty of seatings (sofas and seats) so you can just lounge around or you can use the private rooms if you want to have some privacy. There are good selections of current paperbacks and best sellers. Most of them are in great conditions and some of them brand news since the library is only 3 years old or so. I really enjoy spending a hour or 2 on my day off having a cup of coffee and lounging around using their wifi internet and read some magazines. Of course the best thing is the free wifi!!!

We went to the desk clerk and explained what happened, and we asked her when do the books get reshelved so we can find them and sign them out again. She took her time and went to the drop box area and looked through all the books and found the ones my daughter needed and signed them out for us. Wow, 5 stars for customer service experience !!! Totally made our day. :) 4.5 stars - 5 stars for this library!!
