Serves You Right Caterers & their fantastic staff did an absolutely spectacular job catering our special day in October 2011 at the Piedmont Community Hall. The team blew our expectations right out of the water. The owners of the company were a dream to work with and the crew that works with them are great. The food was beyond good it was impeccable. Each bite was so good, everything fresh, every vegetable and fruit in season, everything local, everything cooked that very minute, and for a large group of over 170 people that is not an easy thing to do. Not a hot box in sight. The chef told me that hot boxes are what the airlines use and who wants that kind of food at a special event. I know on Yelp you have to take stuff with a grain of salt, but I this is true: many, many of our family and friends told us that it was the best food and the best dinner they had ever had at a wedding. And about 1/2 of those said it was one of the best meals they had ever had. When my spouse and I were eating our wedding dinner I did lean over and said to her "can you believe how good the food is! And this is our wedding! 3 of the dishes that really stood out were the roasted asparagus, seafood paella and the 7 greens salad. I thought the paella would be the biggest hit as it had large prawns, mussels, chorizo but surprisingly it was the salad. I know a lot of places make a salad like this. They normally use a bland bottled dressing. This was not the case as the chef uses a housemade honey vinaigrette and tosses it with the salad with ripe avocado, sliced toasted almonds and golden raisins. We had a salad station set up with bread before the paella station started. Everyone kept going back and wanted more and it was the biggest hit of the night. The paella was wonderful and tasted so fresh and the asparagus were roasted and marinated in a tomato dressing. Most folks have cakes for their wedding but we wanted ice cream so we had a sundae bar. The ice cream is on the table and hand dipped before you by SYR's friendliest server, and with your choice of fresh local berries, traditional dark chocolate sauce and a warm salted caramel sauce. (Don't miss the caramel sauce as it is so good!) If you are not into cake for your wedding you must check this out for you big day when your event happens, do not say no to this under any circumstances. The process of working with the Serves You Right Catering team was awesome. When we first started shopping for a caterer for our wedding we were amazed at how fast they answered our emails. We wondered if this would happen after we booked with them and it did! They had the best service before the event and right to the end. They even called us the next day to let us know someone left a set of keys and they were at the Piedmont Community Hall. But the best thing most of all was the food. The chef poured his heart into that food, and because of that it helped to make our wedding the happiest day of our lives, hands-down. We are already thinking about booking Serves You Right Catering for my parents 50th anniversary bash next fall. We talked to the chef on the night of our wedding about spit cooking a lamb. The chef's eyes lit up just talking about it! I cannot imagine a more perfect and better catering company than SYR. read more

My wife and and I knew that the food we served our guests for our wedding had to be memorable. Along with a caterer that is affordable. We knew we wanted to have our wedding at the Brazilian Room because the space is so beautiful for weddings. Our friend had their wedding here and it was beautiful. Out friends used Serves You Right Catering. The we also referred to us by 2 other people and 2 managers from sites we looked at recommended them. But we thought we should do our homework and looked at the other catering companies that were on the list. We went to the open houses at the Brazilian Room. BTW this is great for checking caterers even if your event is not at one of the East Bay Regional Park locations. We heard it was best to go with a company that was close to the event location as caterers have to bring so much stuff. So we checked out the 4 that were close to the Brazilian Room. We scheduled tastings asking if we could taste the food at an open house event so it would be cooked for more than just the 2 of us. One had a wedding fair coming up so it was no problem. The other said no. So we asked if we could come to an event and they make us a togo box of the food being served. Surprisingly they said yes. We really wanted to taste the food this way as we have read in books and in magazines that it's the best way to do tastings. You get a better idea how the food will taste and anyone can make food for 2 people pretty well we figured. The food from the first company was not too bad but the 2nd place was on the verge of inedible. So we decided to check Servers You Right Catering Company now. Long story short the food from Serves You Right won with a sumptuous tasting. They had a big spread at a Brazilian Room Open House and each dish was to die for. On food alone, they won, but it gets better. They were so helpful in planning the whole event from working up a time line and helping me to plan out the flow of the event, moving chairs, and setting up tables. They worked closely with the Brazilian Room for the final setup, and my friend who helped with day-of coordination said everything was so easy and she had never worked with a company that was this together and no stress. They assigned my husband and I a personal waiter who even during picture time insisted that we eat hors d'oeuvres so that we weren't starving. From everything we saw the glasses were getting filled quickly, the empty plates were being pulled, and the servers did a great job. At the end of the night, they boxed up our meals and leftover dessert, which we were very thankful for. We ate that food down the moment we were in the hotel as we were starving. They helped us so much to make the day perfect. The food was just wonderful and our guests raved about it after the wedding and said it was the best meal they'd ever had at a wedding, as if they went to a great restaurant. I would recommend them to any other couple in the area looking for a great experience. They went above and beyond, helping us keep on schedule and doing so many little things (like making sure everyone had a drink right after the ceremony) to reduce our stress on the big day. Great job Serves You Right Catering!!!! read more

I really recommend Serves You Right Catering and Event Planning if you are looking for a great green caterer that loves and makes very good food then definitely check them out. They have an in house coordinator Marcie who is very nice, creative and responsive to all of your crazy emails and phone calls you most likely will have. I was told by a friend of mine that Marcie has worked with lots of Asian couples so since I am Chinese she was the one I called. The chef was also flexible about special needs and wants and the menu was over the top amazing! We had some warm goat cheeses quesadillas, sushi rolls & grilled shrimp for the hors d'oeuvres. We had a buffet dinner with a green salad with pecans, blue cheese & cranberries with a delicious housemaid dressing. Everything is homemade with this company. We also had roasted asparagus, tomato vinaigrette, pasta with sundried tomatoes and artichokes-this was my fav, chicken breast, rosemary & lemon, tri tip carved on the buffet by the chef. Make sure you try the punch with mint & blueberries as you will want to have it at your wedding. You must go with SYR for very high quality, fresh, seasonal and local farm fresh foods, you can't beat their prices. We had our wedding at the Brazil Room in Tilden Park which is in the hills of Berkeley. The space is beautiful and I will write a review later so you can check it out. We had yellow tablecloths which were recommended by Marcie and she was correct that it is beautiful in the dark room. We went with SYR green centerpiece candles which really lit up the room. Because my brother got lost and everything was running a 1/2 hour late Marcie suggested we serve some drinks. I said that sounded good. Not more than 2 minutes later the servers were serving drinks on trays to everyone. It relaxed everyone and then soon after my brother made it and we got the wedding started. The whole catering staff was great. They were dressed professionally with black pants, white shirts and nice classy black jackets. The whole crew were very helpful and friendly. We also had SYR do our desserts. We had pie! Apple, banana cream and the best berry pie you will ever taste. I highly recommend Serves You Right Catering. One of the things they will tell you is that weddings are special to them so they only do one at a time so that the whole company is focus on your special day. You sure could tell they were. We felt like we were queen and king for the day. Thank you so much Serves You Right Catering, you sure served us right! read more

Serves You Right Catering was not only a catering company but also was more like a wedding planner for me. As a do it all yourself couple with no clue, Serves You Right Catering was an amazing choice. The servers were very well dressed and professional and the best I've ever seen. Since we were a same sex couple getting married I wanted to make sure the staff were adults and where very happy about our union. I have heard of other companies where the staff spent the whole event giving dirty looks to the group and even made comments as they did not like the idea of same sex marriages. But what I like most is that the prices are very clear and upfront on the web site - no hidden costs. Marcy - the coordinator and company owner is very prompt, knowledgeable as she has tons of experience and she is also very sweet. I feel like she really went way above and beyond to accommodate our special wants and needs. I had some crazy ideas when it came to tablecloth ideas and the use of candles. Marcy gave me tons of ideas to use my design in a creative way. It ended up saving me money and everyone said the table centerpieces where so neat! My Uncle owns a winery in Napa and we were able to bring his wine and they did not charge us to do this. The provided all the wine glasses we needed and flutes for the champagne my uncle bought also. I also love the way they do tastings as the tasting is a true replication of what will be served at events as it is served banquet-style. They are flexible in creating what we wanted on our day and even created the pasta that my grandmother (she is from Florence Italy) makes all of the time. It was so good and it made my parents so happy. It is simple penne pasta with fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic and cheese. I know it sounds simple but if you do not season it correctly you can really mess it up. I hate to say this but Chef Matt made it better than my Nana! I also so liked that we had the chef that we met at the tasting on site cooking. Chef Matt did such a great job and everything he touches turns to gold. We got so many compliments on the food I have lost count. But everyone keeps telling me that it was so much better than the usual "wedding food". The tri tip and the gnocchi with pesto ribs are an absolute must! And the prawns are so delicious I want some now. I need to find out their next wedding or event and crash it just so I can taste all the yummy food again! read more

My husband and I were married last February at the gardens at Heather Farms and used Serves You Right Catering to cater the reception. The food was OVER THE TOP wonderful, very fresh, and full of flavor. The hot dishes were served hot and the cold dishes were served cold. One item that stood out and you must try is the fresh corn and goat cheese quesadillas that were served for appetizers. They were topped with guacamole and the whole thing was just delicious! I also really liked the gnocchi with fresh pesto sauce. It had just a tiny bit of cream in it, lots of cheese and it was so good. The SYR team took care of the numerous needs for our wedding. I did not want a big long line at the bar after the ceremony. I just hate that. Serves you rights event coordinator assured me that would not happen. And she was right. When the guests started coming on the deck the servers were all waiting with trays of drinks for everyone. Next the servers passed the Hors d'oeuvres. Each tray had a beautiful little flower on it. And the Hors d'oeuvres were just fantastic. And they made plenty so you could eat a ton of them if you wanted. I told myself that I was not going to be one of those brides who does not eat on her wedding day so I ate and ate and ate! After the Hors d'oeuvres were served we moved inside to a seated dinner. First course was a lovely salad with organic greens, gorgonzola cheese, raspberries and toasted walnuts. The best part was the salad dressing. It was house made and had just the right amount of seasonings. After we finished our salads the main course came out. I am a vegetarian so I had a fillo pastry that was filled with vegetables and cheeses. So good. It was served with a rice dish and grilled asparagus with an Asian style dressing. Even the bread basket was fantastic. After dinner plates where cleared in a timely manner and dancing started. The day was perfect, and Serves You Right Catering was a huge part of that. The company's experience made a big part of the planning process very easy. We definitely recommend them to people who are planning events. read more

Serves You Right Catered my wedding at the Brazil Building. I chose them because of all the experience with the place and because they are the closest caterer to the Brazil Room. I also chose them because I am a vegetarian and I wanted an all vegetarian buffet-veggie food is one of their specialties. I cannot tell you how spectacular the experience was with them. From the moment I walked in the building I was treated like a princess. The event coordinator always made sure I had a drink if I wanted one and even offer to help bustle my dress! But the biggest help from them came when our officiate did not show up. He had gotten lost. When Marcy came to inquire about the lateness she said no problem our chef is ordained and he will be more than happy to officiate the ceremony. After talking with Chef Matt for a few minutes we all were ready to go. The ceremony was just wonderful. And I think my husband and I and all our guest liked Matt much better than the guy who was a no show. Now the food. As Matt was performing the ceremony his assistant took over for him in the kitchen. As I said I am a vegetarian and I am very picky about the food I eat. I will not eat processed foods or anything out of a box. I really hate appetizers that are frozen that so many caterers use. We of course had nothing like that as Chef Matt said he hates those too. Each appetizer was handmade and I could tell made with love. Since the ceremony was late the servers had no problem getting the event back on track. Drinks were passed and chairs were moved inside. When it was time for the banquet Marcy help get everyone get seated and she then invited everyone up to the buffet. We had 180 (max for the space but they caterers got us all in the room no problem) people and the served everyone in 20 minutes! I hate those weddings you go to and it takes an hour for everyone to be served! They said that does not happen with them and it sure didn't. read more

My husband and I used Marcie and her husband for our wedding. She made some rude comments to me about my choice of tablecloths for our wedding. We had a VERY small wedding and it was like Marcie took the day off. There was often no one at the bar, so guests had to serve themselves. Marcie wouldn't heat up food for my 2 year old nephew. She sat behind the buffet and drank our wine, which incidently we ran out of white wine!! When toasts were given she was cleaning up, which made it difficult to hear the speeches. Also, the champagne was not poured or even on the tables. When she put the bottles down on the tables she said, "you have to pour it yourself". Also, at one point one of our friends asked for a drink at the bar (when a staff was actually there) and he was told we were out of beer. Meanwhile we had over 3 cases left!!! Marcie's husband did a wonderful job with the food. Everything was delicious. He should be in business by himself. After our wedding I wrote her an email saying thank you, but also telling her what we were upset about........thinking as a local business they would take our thoughts into consideration...but NO!!!! I never heard back from her. Engaged couples....beware! Not the type of person, I'd give my business to again. read more

Matt and Marcie and there team catered our wedding reception and it was over the top fabulous!! We had so many compliments on the food and the attentive/fantastic service. We give five stars and we highly recommend Serves You Right Catering for any of your catering needs. Especially if you are having a wedding!! Our wedding was at the Brazil Building in Tilden Park. They have catered tons of events in this beautiful space and know it like the back of their hand. I am Filipino and some of their servers are. One of them Corra was her name made lumpia for us on the side and it was very popular and my Mom said the best she has ever tasted. We were on a tight budget but food was very important plus we wanted local food, organic they were able to do it all in our tiny budget! From our first email with them they were nothing but professional. Call them right away if you want some wonderful people to cater your party! read more

If you are looking for the best caterer in the bay area look no further. Besides being affordable their food is better than any restaurant that I have been to in the last 5 years. They catered my wedding in 2006 at the Brazil Building, providing food so terrific that I still have people telling me so. I have rarely been to a wedding that was note worthy in this respect and they just blew peoples' socks off! Everything went off without a hitch and that is in no small part to the wonderful job SYR did for us. The service was fantastic and impeccable. Everyone was so helpful and friendly too! One other good point is that they are a bay area green business now. I am really into being green and since they were so close to the event site was very important to me. Some of the other caterers the place recommends were so far away. I definitely recommend Serves You Right Catering and I give them 10 STARS. read more

My wife and I have used Serves You Right Catering on several events over the years and they have always been great. Marcie is easy to work with, professional and has a ton of experience. Matt is an amazing chef. In fact, I have always said if you are going to have chicken at your event, hire these guys because Matt makes the best chicken. I'm not sure what he does but it's always moist & delicious. Nobody likes dry chicken! Of course they do other things as well, but I just wanted to point that out. Great Appetizers Too! Their staff, Cora and the gang are so nice. By the way, Cora makes great lumpia. They are very efficient and the service is always on point. The cool thing about Serves You Right is they have a full time staff. They're not hiring temporary people to come in and help on an event. These folks are are invested and care about what's going on at your event and I love it! read more

I have had the pleasure of attending events catered by Serves You Right, casual and formal alike. This company is detail oriented, and takes pride in being the best looking, best tasting, and best customer care. The catering menu is excellent! Every item available is mouthwatering . Some catering companies set up for the visual appeal alone, but Serves You Right goes above and beyond to offer a gourmet touch to every dish. Some of my favorites include: Spicy Asian Green Beans, Gnocchi with Creamy Pesto, Caprese Skewers, Grilled Shrimp with Garlic and Breadcrumbs, Roast Salmon, and marinated Tri Tip. One event I went to had what seemed to be everything on the menu, so I got to try a lot! I have never personally ordered from Serves You Right. But, if I see that they are catering, I know that as a guest I will be in for a treat. read more

Serves You Right Catering offers so many options to fit your budget, you can really get creative, and Marcie will be a straight shooter and let you know what's what. She was honest, and really listens to what you want and not what she wants to sell you. There are so many vendors that see a wedding as a chance to bleed every last penny out of you, but not them. They fully understand how to build a reputation and a great relationship in their community. Very flexible with changes and VERY PATIENT as they know how much can change in a moment's notice. Having Marcie be our event coordinator and it be included in the price was a definite plus and something I would highly recommend. I could not imagine having to worry about anything other than getting married on that day, and Marcie and her assistant Corra made sure that was all we had to do. read more

You Right Catering did a GREAT job you at our wedding last month at the Brazilian Building in Tilden Park! First, about the food the food was EXCELLENT! We received several compliments but the stand-outs were from my aunt who said they made the best salmon she had ever tasted in her entire life! (And she makes fish regularly). Next, my friend Steve who is Italian and a restaurant chef and who flew in for the wedding from Italy said that the pasta dish was incredible. He said repeatedly that it's easy to overlook pasta and that the pesto and pine-nuts were superb. He spent some time talking with Serves you rights executive chef Matt at the party. Steve was amazed that we had a chef with so much experience working right at our reception. He said that most likely that was why the food was oh so good. They made my wedding unforgettable!!! read more

Serves You Right catering catered my recent wedding and they were fantastic!!! I never had to worry about a thing. Everything worked like clockwork. The place was set up beautifully just like we talked about. After the ceremony everyone was served a drink within minutes-this was important to me as my family loves to party. The food was wonderful, full of flavor and the hot dishes were served hot. All my friends said the vegetables where the best they ever had. You could tell everything was freshly made. The bartender, servers, and kitchen crew and event coordinator they include in the price where all top notch. Professionally dressed and mature. This was important to me as at my cousins wedding the servers were a bunch of high school kids under dressed talking on their cell phones all night. I highly recommend them read more

Serves You Right Catering did a fantastic job at my art opening last month. The French Dip Roast Beef Sandwiches were great! In fact people were raving about the food as much as my art! Tasty salmon bites, cheese fondue, and this wonderful carmelized brie served with strawberries. The buffet was a work of art in itself with a creative center piece that made the room sparkle. I had a very strict budget and they had no problem sticking to it without pushing me towards a different more expensive menu. Marcie was a doll and I highly recommend this company to cater your next special party or event. Five stars for sure! read more

5 big stars!!! It has been 4 weeks since the wedding of our daughter, and the compliments keep coming in. I am so glad we went with them. We could not possibly have received better service, delicious food, assistance, or care anywhere else. My daughter is a vegetarian and her new husband a vegan. They wanted to express this at their wedding. I was so happy that we found a caterer who had lots of experience with this type of menu and could pull it off with no worries. Also the Brazilian Room was an exquisite setting in which to have a wedding. read more

I attended a wedding last week catered by Serves You Right. They did a fantastic job. The food was excellent & the presentation outstanding. It was a buffett meal that never felt like a buffett. Everything was replenished efficiently and you could tell freshly prepared. The chicken was especially good very moist and in a creamy sauce that I would have snuck home in my purse if it was possible. The staff was wonderful-- professional & friendly. Very, very highly recommended read more

I was overjoyed that they were available to cater our wedding. The service was immaculate, everything went so smoothly and the FOOD was OUTSTANDING. We especially appreciated all of the assistance they provided throughout the planning process. This really helped to put us at ease. All of the information they provide on their website and emailed to us was invaluable. This high level of service really puts them above the rest. They make our wedding day perfect. read more
