I called Sunday to check on pricing because I can't find it anywhere and it's not on their website. The woman told me $45 for an hour foot massage and $70 for the body. Though there are photos on yelp that show $30 for foot and $50 for body. Then I called back today (Tuesday, 2 days later) to book the foot massage but they told me it's not $60. She said it's because there's a new owner. I didn't realize the ownership changed in two days. Take this review as a warning to check if you're comfortable with the pricing. I'm not sure how the actual service is as I didn't like that they changed the price on me. read more

I have had some wonderful massages here in the past, but lately, over the past year or so, there have been many distractions during my sessions. I understand it is still a relatively new business, but answering business calls during the massage takes you out of the moment completely. It is also really important that the therapist listens to the client's request for areas to focus on or avoid as my requests have been overlooked the last few times. I recently sent my boyfriend there who really needed help with a knot in his shoulder and regret it because the therapist who worked with him slacked off and was even checking her cell phone during the massage. I am taking a long break from the place and hope that the standards can be brought back to the way they were originally. read more

I live a few blocks from Serenity Spa and walked in today seeking relief for the crazy knots in my shoulders and neck (I'm in grad school, so I carry a heavy-ish backpack every day). I'm on a tight budget, so I decided to get the one-hour foot massage, which includes a shoulder and upper back massage while your feet soak. I asked the massage therapist, Mr. Li (didn't get his first name), to focus on my shoulders, and he went to work right away, spending a lot more time and effort than what is probably normal for this service to get my crazy shoulder knots out. He was attentive and asked several times if the pressure was ok. After some serious kneading, my shoulder and neck muscles felt so much looser and lighter! Exactly what I needed. The actual foot massage was nice and relaxing. In the individual reclined sofa I was sitting in (with legs fully extended), I was practically falling asleep. I can't speak to the other services, but the one-hour foot (and shoulder) massage was awesome! As far as the facilities, the spa is clean, modern, and homey. Also the foot massage room is big and has several foot massage sofas, so it would be great for small groups. I'm so glad I found this West Medford neighborhood gem! read more

This place is terrible, I don't always hate a massage parlor but when I do its because.....The lady who gave the massage had no idea what she was doing, she massaged my bones, not the muscles. She did the same three moves over and over... Full body, nope. Never in the whole ordeal did I feel relaxed! She answered her phone twice! And checked multiple text messages. And the worst part was that on multiple occasions I felt her remove her hand from my body... Then I heard her scratch her head then resume the massage. Gross! I don't want your skin particles and possible head lice on my body. This was the cheapest place I could find and I guess I got what I paid for. Next time I'm going to more reputable place! read more

I hate to diss a brand new business, because everybody deserves a shot, but this was the worst massage I've ever had ... by a landslide. I live one street over and had some shoulder discomfort, so I made a last minute appointment. I currently have a standing monthly appointment at Massage Envy in Burlington, but my shoulders are always killing me because I work at a computer all day. The worst part was technique. The therapist was just not a skilled massage therapist, plain and simple. She literally didn't know how to work out the knots in my shoulders. It was like having my husband rub my shoulders, but frankly, he does a better judge. I was super clear that I only wanted work done on my shoulders and back when I arrived, but even after clarifying several additional times during the massage, I still got a full body massage. There are no sheets on the bed, which I've never experienced before. Everybody has varying levels of comfort with nudity during a massage, but this leaves no options. I left my sweatpants on. There were paper towels on the face support, which is not very therapeutic and tranquil. Additionally, it was about 10 degrees too hot in the room, which makes for a miserable massage. She did not use massage oil until about 20 minutes into the massage. When somebody uses their hands and basically twists your skin in two different directions, it feels like the "indian sunburns" we gave each other as kids. Ouch! Lastly, I was taken by surprise when she climbed on top of the bed and knelt on my back with her full body weight. I actually found this to be extremely uncomfortable on my abdomen, and I think techniques like this should be asked about before implemented. Normally massage therapists ask how the pressure is or things like that several times during the massage, I don't' think it's too much to ask to say something before you put your entire body weight on somebody's' lower back. I hate to even bring up this last point, because I certainly don't want these women to be in a difficult situation, but the sign on the back of the door that mentioned not asking for "sexual acts" just made me think "where AM i!??" It says something about the kind of establishment you are if you have to mention that! I've never seen a sign like that at any other spa! P.S. I don't even know where to begin. A friend recommended this place, and a cursory Yelp glance showed 4 stars, so I gave it a shot. This is the first time I have ever walked out on a massage. The place looks decent, plenty of rooms and foot massage chairs, etc. I went to my massage room and, as instructed, laid face-down only to have the disgusting smell of dirty head assault me. For some reason they had put a neck pillow (like the kind you use on an airplane) on top of the massage table's u-shaped face rest. This pillow smelled like what I imagine to be a dorm-room pillow of an 18 year old boy who rarely washes his sheets. Disgusted, I tossed it aside and used the u-shaped rest. A little better. Then the masseuse comes in and I ask her to pay particular attention to my right neck and shoulder area, as I had slept wrong and had trouble turning my head. She said okay. Then she stands on my left side and uses her elbows on my spine. She meant to do sweeping motions with her forearms, but seemed not to realize that the whole time she was running her elbow along the bumps of my spinal column, causing a lot of pain. I spoke up and again she said okay. She moved down to my hamstrings and glutes with a staccato, almost indiscernible massage. I asked her to go a little harder. She said okay and she may have massaged 1% harder. So far, this massage sucks. She then stands on my right side and repeats the elbow-spine assault. What the hell? I decide to just try and relax and ignore the fact that I'll likely go home with bruises. But never in the dozens and dozens of massages I've had (ranging from mediocre to amazing) was my spine ever "massaged" like today. She makes her index and thumb like a prong and pushes on either side of my spine and she hits a knot in my lumbar. Ooh! That clearly needs to be worked. But she doesn't feel it, and moves on. I've had massages in ghetto basement of NYC's chinatown where you literally hear rats running around in the ceilings, but the masseuses were very knowledgeable and clearly understood how to use massage for healing. They find knots and work them, and I feel improved afterward. Today's masseuse clearly lacked such technique. It was when she moved up to my neck and bruised the spine there that I said I had enough. It's one thing to get a mediocre massage by a mediocre masseuse, but a masseuse who clearly doesn't know what she's doing AND is causing a steady dose of pain? No reason to stay. I tell her I'd like to stop today, she inquires what she can do differently, but how can I explain that she just doesn't know what she's doing? I kindly persist that I just don't want to continue today. She asks if she can send someone else in. At first I refuse then she says "try for 5 minutes to see if you like" or something so I said okay. The new person came in but to be honest, the damage was done. I was in a foul mood and I wasn't having it. And, in the 3 minutes or so she massaged me, it became clear she wasn't any better. She offered to at least bring a hot towel to wipe off the oil, but I couldn't wait to get out of there. I declined. I get out to the counter where my original masseuse was waiting. It was awkward because I had never walked out on a massage before. I wondered how much explaining was due. I tried to be helpful and explain that she shouldn't cause so much pain along the spine and that she neglected to attend to knots. She was somewhat apologetic but then said she's been doing this for 10 years, as though that would automatically prove her aptitude. I had a 20 dollar bill on me and I was going to be generous enough to leave that for their effort. I was considerate and asked how much she will charge me, and she said "half hour is fine. $30" even though I laid down on the table at 2:11 and I was checking out at 2:33pm. This even included the masseuse swap that I never wanted. She had the audacity to charge me generously, let alone at all. Not the way to run a business. I've had great massages at western places like Sollievo on Mass Ave and Massage Therapy Works in Davis Square. I tend to try and support Chinese/Eastern massage places since, like the rat basement place I mentioned above, they can often give the most fantastic healing massages. However, this place in Medford is DREADFUL. I promptly came home and took a shower because I was getting whiffs of that dirty pillow (clearly it had made my face smell, GROSS) and I'm writing this almost as a PSA. Sad because I like to see hardworking immigrant business owners do well. My neck and shoulder were never even touched so I'm going to get a heat pack. :( read more

I used to live near this location and only went when I was in serious pain. Everytime I go I ask for the owner, because she's closer to a physician than a massage therapist. Titles aside, I have had serious back pain from lifting my infant over the years and Coco has pretty much brought me back on my feet each time. I sent people to her throughout my career, as I am a graphic designer and spend most of my time sitting hence the back pain issues. This place is how shall I say... interesting. Prices are low $50 for 1 hour so that was what encouraged me to give it a try. One of the massage people is NOT good, one other is gifted and enjoyable (Dina, I believe). My girlfriend got a massage from the gifted person two times and loved it. We live several blocks away and go back and forth by this place on the way to and from work and we often see the owner smoking outside. We always call it the "shady place" because of this but I digress. However on a related note one really annoying thing about my massage, I was unfortunate enough to get the owner and the smell of cigarettes plus a cheap perfume maybe meant to cover the cigarette smell (and instead of masking, it just added another unpleasant smell) were present the whole time. And the massage was hardly a massage, just some way too soft kneading..... The clothes she wore were weird... they were hard, like polyester and made noise every time she moved or swayed (which was often). If you go, request someone besides the smoking owner lady with the noisy clothes and you may have a great massage. read more

Every time I come back to visit Boston where I grew up, my friend and I have to come and get the foot reflexology massage. They give such a wonderful massage here and in a very peaceful setting (my friend falls asleep most of the time!). We walk out feeling anew and relaxed. I was shocked when I read the one and two star reviews for Serenity Spa. I have to say that my experiences there have been excellent. I have been several times, but only for the "foot Massage" which is wonderful and a super bargain. My son and daughter-in-law go regularly. I was a professionally trained massage therapist earlier in life. My impression is that both women know their craft very well. I have been helped with both upper back/neck issues and an old ankle injury . I like a lot of pressure. So I always say "hard" when they ask and do get the right pressure in all the right places. Because only one of them speaks English well, perhaps communication has been a problem for some. Of course I can only vouch for the "foot massage" (which is really a neck, shoulders, face, back, arms, feet and lower legs massage). I say, give these hard-working ladies a try. I had a foot massage here and had a great experience. I ended up buying a package. I went with a friend and it was a wonderfully relaxing experience. For only $35 my feet were soaked in a bath with flower petals, then massaged. But then my back and neck and arms were massaged. When finished, you lay back on the lounge to rest. I heard of this place through a friend. My husband and I went on a Saturday morning. I got the reflexology treatment and he got a deep tissue. He was having issues with his legs and the massage therapist worked very hard to get the knots out. I got a reflexology treatment which should have been billed as a full body She worked out my kinks on my shoulders, back, arms and legs. Then she started working on my feet and calves. I enjoyed it very much. I felt that they therapists really know what they are doing to help you heal, as that is the purpose of massage. On the flip side, I love to be pampered and I was very impressed with the entire setup. I felt very tranquil and at the same time felt like I was on the road to healing my body and getting the qi moving (energy). This place is very competitively priced. They do a 1 hr foot massage for 25 dollars and full body is around $40. These prices are hard to beat and even turn down. They lady at the front desk speaks very little english so it can be easy to get confused or schedule the wrong time. The overall spa is very clean and well kept. They have some private rooms and a larger open room for foot massages. We ended up getting the 30 minute foot massage and 1 hr full body combined. The foot massage was solid and comparable to Happy Feet in Chinatown. The full body was decent. If your looking for a cheap foot massage then this place is a great option. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. Great atmosphere - calm, relaxing and very welcoming. And the massages and foot reflexology are fantastic. CoCo knows just where to go to get the knots out. She's amazing. The prices are way lower than what you'd pay for comparable services in Chinatown, etc but the quality is just as good or better. I try to go as often as I can and it's never often enough - I'm totally hooked. I always leave feeling super-relaxed and slighly euphoric. I've been to this spa numerous times and I've always found the staff friendly and professional. I like a firm massage and the therapists here give better massages than other more costly spas in the area even those at twice the cost. Some of these more costly spas spend more time moving the sheets around than actually giving you a massage. The place is always clean and I will be returning. read more

I was a walk in last week and received very nice service from both Ginny and Katie. Both were friendly, accomodating and eager to please. Started with a one hour foot massage from Ginny who I could tell had a lot of experience and training and massage was soothing and very thorough. I was extremely relaxed when it was over and the price was $25, very affordable and a good value. Ginny earned a $15 tip, which she seemed very happy with, which leads me to believe that others tips less. I really liked the hot stone treatment towards the end, and it was the first time I had it, even though I have had foot massages at two other places. Then it was off to one of the private rooms with Katie for a half hour Swedish/Tui Na massage, and I really enjoyed it and my back felt much better by the end. Katie also showed a lot of training and experience in her moves and I especially like the long pressing down strokes with her entire arm, kneading into all the kinks and aches my back suffered from. Used just the right amount of unscented oil, too. Got a lot of good shoulder and neck work too, which really loosened me up. I received the whole 30 minutes and tipped $20 for her efforts which she seemed content with. I will repeat sometime and try the full hour. I rate this place eight to tens on cleanliness, location, parking, hour, and friendliness. Check it out, you will be glad you did. After five foot massages, you earn a free one. Just get a card from them and they will stamp it each time you go. read more
